I think Casey wasn’t able to have all the transformers he wanted as a kid and is now compensating for it. 😂 That zack lift is an awesome piece of equipment.
I like the idea about a winch that uses the existing mount after you detach. I am sure if you contact the manufacturer they would be willing to build you one that uses the same hydraulic connections and then offer the winch as an accessory to their product line.
The downside is that a large hydraulic winch is probably a bit heavy and bulky to move into place. A harbor freight battery powered one can be a lot smaller and lighter and still do what is needed.
Good morning Casey. That Zacklift is really impressive. The amount of thought that went into every aspect of the unit. Its very complicated yet simple when you showed what is involved in the removal. Good job Casey , thumbs UP! 👍 Have a great day!
Since you need a impact to release the tension on the chains you should just remove the jack handles on the legs and weld some nuts on in their place, use nuts that are the same size as the chain tension bolts so you only need one socket.
I like this idea. I have had tools break, and batteries get cold, so the redundant survivalist in me says to leave the hand cranks, but it's not a bad idea at all.
Casey, at 11:32 that was with a couple of minutes for explanations, camera set-up etc. Once the outriggers are mounted and you aren't moving cameras you'll be way under 10 min. Great foreshadowing as I'm sure at least half of us thought why not just build a bracket for a winch to fit into your zacklift bracket! lol
Hi Casey, great video, may I suggest you paint a stripe on the front landing legs where they go into the tubes, that way you will be real close to the pin holes Just my thoughts.
Transformer toys for big boys. No need for more speed Casey, I think you already got the chronological order of your contraption down to a science. I love the fact on how clean and tidy the wrecker attachment is, You can detach, walk around with a pressure washer with easy access below, pretty sweet rig, easy to service, the wrecker can be dropped off for repairs without shutting down the truck. A semi for hauling and a rig for towing all-in-one, you can't get mad at that.
You need a folding engine hoist, modified to be able to lift the winch up onto the front mount bracket (and save your back and another hernia). Beyond that, this looks to be the perfect setup that truly gives you the best of both worlds - a heavy wrecker with some awesome abilities, and a 5th wheel setup to be able to haul almost any trailer you have need to haul. It's very easy to understand why you made the decision that you did for the unit that you did - very nice looking setup, Casey!
He can store the winch on the flatbed, so then he just need some planks to drag it on and off the truck. Assuming its down hill he can drag it easy down, and use the winch to drag itself up.
Put similar feet under the winch. You can drive from underneath the lift, and backup underneath the winch. Remove the legs, and off you go. That way it can even be the heavy duty winch.
Yes after a few more times taking it off, you will have your routine down pat and reduce your time a lot. With doing the routine the same each time you also develop muscle memory so if you forget something it will trigger you senses to go back and double check. Keep up the good videos and make it understandable for all.
I like how you immediately put the tools back where they are supposed go when you finished with them. I don't do that sometimes and have a heck of a time trying to remember where I left them. TOO MANY BRAIN FARTS
The Harbor Freight ( US General) tool boxes are great. I had one in my service truck for 10-12 years. I was very impressed with how well it took the abuse of being mounted on a truck.
For someone who claims to not be good at anything, Casey, you did a great job at whatever you are not good at...!!!! The zacklift is a great choice...!!!!
if zacklift made it then it could be capable of being controlled by the wireless controller from the big unit blue side or yellow side depends on witch hydraulic line he hooks up
@@charlesflakusj.r6344no because thats integrated into the wrecker body. Not the truck side. Truck pto only supplies the hydraulic flow and moving it. You could run the body off of a pony motor if you wanted to
Could remove the handle and weld a nut so you can use a cordless drill to drop them faster, although idk if it would hurt the gears to do like that. Awesome equipment and great video as always, Casey!!
@@User_Joe he tends to not be a fan of depending on having power tools to run stuff (and having done what you suggested to one of our goose neck trailers after ripping off a jack handle for the second time (caught a branch once and snagged it on a round bail the other time) i felt kind of dumb having to use an adjustable wrench to lift a loaded trailer so i could unhook bc i forgot the driver i made a new handle for it lol
Have ZackLift design and build a hydraulic winch to attach to the empty front mount when the wrecker body is removed. You can be tester #1 for a new product!
Nice change over as a visual when you have the front legs on spray paint to where the holes for the pins to drop throw with ease so if you have to do it in low lighting you will not need to struggle and forget something.
An Apex winch in a cradle pinned to the bracket is a great idea. I'm thinking a small A frame above the winch, with a rotating sheave head instead of a normal fair lead to make it easy, well easier on the rope anyway, to go off the sides of the truck if needed. A set of cables, with an Anderson style quick disconnect plug could be mounted under the center box of the headache rack for connecting it to the batteries. I'm not in the wrecker business, but it makes sense in my head.
Another idea: Weld a tab with a hole in it on the front legs to put the big front locking pins in when they are removed, that way they dont get lost and are right where you need them when it is time to hook back up. Also, chain or safety wire the front leg pins and clips to the front legs so they don't get dropped in the snow or gravel and get lost. As others mentioned, paint a stripe around the front legs to help align the holes. Great job and awesome piece of kit you have there.
Hello from the Netherlands. It might be an idea to place a bracket in the middle under your headboard rack boxes for the air couplings and lighting plug of the truck itself. This way they are always out of the way and yet in the right place when connecting and disconnecting. and perhaps also hang a bracket on the wrecker unit for the hydraulic hoses, so you always place them in the same place and hang them in a good bracket that holds the couplings in place thanks for the video. Kind regards, Hollandduck
A) You missed the safety pin on the retainer for the first leg. B) I LOVE that you strapped the legs to the hand truck - shows your commitment to safety. Great vid!

you should ask Zacklift to design and built and winch mount that goes into their frame mount it could run off of one of your hydraulic line sets and use your wireless controller. those hydraulic winches are heavy so have the mount have its own set of detachable legs that hold it in the air higher then your fifth wheel so you can drive under it with the truck and crank lower it into the frame mounts.
