Hi Allen, l will definitely donate to this charity by joining on the link you have provided as soon as l get job, I am also related to it like you, my nephew who was jus 6 years old past away in the great Orman hospital.
@@sudhiradhikari19 Thank you very much.
Hi Allen,
thanks for making videos for people like me, as I said before once I get job I will start donating to the charity, now I got job in Reading Borough Council, hope it goes alright, I can also confirm that I have set up direct debit to Candle Lighters. Very happy to be part of it.
these videos are great for home owners who maybe getting a new boiler and can be reassured as to how a boiler should be installed and how it should look when finished
Very good point. Thanks.
I have to agree on this. We went to fix a flue that was far too long on a rented property today. No rubber and they had spray painted the white to hide the fact that they couldn't be bothered to cut the flue down. When we told the landlord, she wouldn't believe us as it had been passed for years. It wasn't until we showed her the manufacture's instructions that she realised it was wrong. She thought we were fishing for work, like we need to do that at any time of the year but specifically this time of year. Nothing worse than putting other peoples work right.
@@tomrobinson4935 Hopefully videos like this will help raise the standards. Thanks.
I used to have a Stanley toolbox with a slot in the top which was just the job for cutting down flues, stopped it slipping. Hacksaw with 32tpi blade does a neat cut, and a half round file to take off the rough edge does a good job. Always seal up with mortar inside and out, then all regs are covered👍🏻
Thank You
Brillant video Allen. Thank you very very much for making this so easy and simple to understand, you are a gentleman.
Colin
Colin glad you finally got the measurement accurately
🙃🙃🙃🙃😂 I got there in the end lol. Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 No problem Allen we all have senior moments now and then :)
Hello Allen, just want to say a big thank you for the time you take out to do these videos mate, much appreciated.
Thank you for watching, I wouldn’t do the videos without all the amazing feedback. Thanks.
Allen thank you very much for your help.
Greeting from ALBANIAN 🇦🇱
God bless you.
Wow Allan this is the best video I have seen about flue,
I prefer hacksaw, so you have total control of cutting the flue, safe, neat and then file it.
Differently I use mortar inside and out, so it is secure and sealed properly and definitely on ideal as it does not have screws and clamp as you said anyone can pull the flue out.
Excellent video
Thank you Allan.
My advice is never rush in your job, be calm and read MI properly.
I just hate flues sticking out the wall, and whoever does this, it's under cutting other good professionals.
It's shamble.
I just need to learn how to read a tape lol.. Thank you buddy.
Easy enough to use the black or white on the measured point and use it as a template to draw around. Great little tutorial Al. Looking forward to seeing how you tackle a vertical with or without bends 🙏👍.
Thank You
Allen your "spot on" with the sand and cement 👍
Thank You
@ 4:18 I usually put the flue pipe in a 110 mm drain pipe that i fix in the wall with gypsum (hardens very quickly). Lately I leave the 110 mm 1-1.5 cm pipe protruding inside and insert a short screw through it to the outer tube from the flue pipe of the boiler so that it cannot be accidentally removed from the elbow part of the boiler.
I prefer to put the chimney in a 110 mm pipe so that in the future, the next time the boiler is replaced, the replacement of the flue will be much easier.
Thank you
On Ideals put flue elbow on measure to face off brick outside to edge elbow add 50mm perfect, I used to do it your way
great video,, very interesting. Think you need to work on your measurements . I think you was meant to say 350mm not 305mm when measuring the flue length . keep up the great work.
Thank you for the feedback.
As an exideal field engineer, we would want to see the flue sealed with sand and cement, as you said we rely on it to hold the flue in place. Also with the inner fall of the exhaust, it is built in, but if you are adding extensions and extending the flue, depending on the length, you may need to add a fall into the flue.
I phoned ideal today and they said it didn’t need sand and cement. Personally I would always seal it up. Thanks.
I believe you, but our training department and managers where all under the notion they had to be sealed. If they were not sealed at least either on the outside or inside, we would leave a warning notice and potentially turn off the boiler, so I would advise nobody to take that chance.
@@kevincranfield5235 The guy said the newer flue has two seals and you can just use them, I take it the old flue needed sand and cement, In my opinion they should all be sealed with sand and cement. Thanks.
I was told by gas Safe that all flues should be sealed inside and out with cement.
3:12 i usually put the flue level or 1-2 degrees down (especially at viessman boilers) during service interventions, most defects in the electronic board, fan and defective gas valves are caused by rainwater entering the outer tube from the exhaust pipe in the boiler. And the guys at viessman were nice enough to make sure that any drop of water that gets from the flue to the combustion chamber will reach either the electronic fan plate or the gas valves ... now they have chosen a location more decent but still could not bear to put a collar for water capture and drainage as other manufacturers do: P
I have always been told to do them level but it’s worth checking the installation instructions. Thanks.
Excellent video this Allen, look forward to the vertical flue install next 🙏👍 thanks as always mate
Thank You
I bought a Flue Shoe. Personally, for me, it was probably an unnecessary expense. But if you were fitting a lot of flues, I’d say it would be a good tool to have. I bought the reamer too, which I’m not so keen about. Thanks for the video.
I used to do about 5 flues a week. Personally I wouldn’t buy a flue shoe as I feel it will just be in the way in the van or get damaged, I do not see the point in buying loads of products we don,t need. Thanks.
Do you use sand and cement. Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 fair point. I’ve got to say, for the job it’s designed to do, it does very well. That said, it’s a shame that it can’t take small commercial size flue (it could with another adapter). Xmas present from the Mrs for you ??
@@AllenHart999 tend to use fire rated silicone inside and sand cement outside. Most our houses are timber frame up here, rather than solid walls.
I love the vogue! Brilliant boiler, great video sir!
Thank You
External wall to elbow + 60mm for Ideal. Cut with a hacksaw. Gobbo inside and outside. Stretch the external collar.
So easy even our apprentice can do it.
Thanks.
Hi Allen
Would love to see a video of how to install a flue sideways as the template only works for a standard rear exit.
Great video
My flue goes straight out the wall. But having a conservatory so don't want the flue going out there. Can I cut the ceiling and go up a bit and run the flue 6 feet across so it can go out the side of the house. Would that be okay
Thanks
Great job allen I do sand cement external only I always put screws into the flue .like you said new builds flue too long .
What do ideal say about putting a screw in the flue? Thanks.
Should have said apart from ideal plastic elbow ,always stick to manufacturers instructions most don't even mention sand and cement years ago you had to put 3 screws in or gas safety would rip into you on your inspection.
I have never fitted a Vogue so not familiar with the book of words: However I would definitely sand & cement hole and probably fix outer flue to the elbow with a short stainless self tapper.
I use a grinder on the outer tube too. :-)
Nice one Allen.....sand & cement both sides for me every time..... 👍
The best way in my opinion. Thank You.
Great video. Keep them coming Allen
Does the flue turret need to be screwed to prevent it being pulled out? Thanks
Allen, what a video, I was waiting on this for long time, thank you so much very very helpful and you made it so simple to understand, may I request you to explain little bit about the flue extension on your future video, also when you install next boiler can you please explain about hanging brackets on the different types of wall and also the types of screw you use for different walls.
I will try and do that when I do the Vertical flue video. Thanks.
A vertical flue with weathering slate would be great in the future 👍👍
I will try and do one in the next week or so. Thanks.
Another great video Allen - I’ll definitely use this method for my next install. Thanks 👍
Many thanks for the comment.
Always cement up and put flue screws. I do it your way, it's the only to get it bang on
Absolutely brilliant. Video really enjoy. Keep up the fantastic work. So appreciated. 😊👍

Hi Allen I have an Ideal combination boiler in my wardrobe in bedroom with horizontal flue pipe running along ceiling in bedroom. I’ve just had it boxed in after having a service and the guys used chipboard is this safe. I’m getting headaches I didn’t get before when it was exposed. Also have carbon monoxide detector.
HI Allen great video as usual, there is a Gas Safe TB 152 about securing and sealing horizontal chimneys/flues.
Hi Kev. I wasn’t aware of TB 152. I have updated the title. Thank you very much.
Hi Allen thanks for your informative video well done 👍🏼
Thank You
from the video and gassafe TB 152 seems sand / cement sealing on both wall leafs is the most reccomended way too
1 secure flue orientation & position and restrict flue removal (with manuractuers clamps & screws if any).
2 help the manufactuers seals/trims exclude gas & rain from the wall cavity interior
PS with new homes beiing air tight tested they cant tolerate many air leaks or draughts in or out. Reliable seals on the inner wall needed to stop air movement from cavities..
Fun and games if your doing replacments and bricking outer walls but not doing much wih the inner leaf & sealing.
How do you stop the sound of the wind coming back into the house? That is the main problem we are having since we got a new boiler. Noise of the wind keeps us awake all night.
Some engineers use washing up liquid around the flue instead of silicone grease, is that ok or will it cause problems
That's a very good question. I would expect that is a definite no no but I cannot be sure. Thanks.
Im pretty sure some manafacturers say that washing up liquid is actually a good idea and tottally fine. Not 100 per cent sure but the i remember the guy who trained me up telling me a manafacturer and told him washing up liquid is good
@@MrMarco3 Washing up liquid is classed as corrosive when testing for gas leaks, Not sure if it would be the same on a boiler seal. I know Baxi say to use silicone grease. Thanks.
Washing up liquid every time. You're not supposed to use mineral lubricants.
Could just use vassaline
Can you use expanding foam for
The gap
Instead of sand
Cement
Yr a legend mate cheers for the video have a great day
Excellent video allen
Intergas horizontal flues what is your opinion on these?? With the front wall plate you get for the flue I find difficult to seal on the inside due to the square plate you get.
Hi Allen can you please make a video of installing a flue to the side of the boiler
Very detailed and informative. Thanks!
Do it exactly the same as you only i squirt fire proof expanding foam in leaving about 10mm. when it’s set use fire cement to seal inside and out, no mixing up.
Hi Timmy. Do ideal say that expanding foam is ok? I know gas safe said we couldn’t use foam a few years back as it could crush the flue? Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 I always drill a 5” core so there is room for expansion, it is used purely as a base for the fire cement.
@@cynt1111 I would personally say that’s a really good idea but if I was using foam I would check that the manufacturer-approved it first. Thank you very much
Great video Allen 👍

How Alan, did you do the vertical flue demo
hi Allen. how do i clean the flue - would i be able to disconnected the part above the boiler, remove the elbow and clean both pipes without having to re-cement and re-seal the whole thing?
Well explained Allen......thanks buddy👍👍👍
My boiler flue wasn’t put on so the flue was angled towards boiler. Can an engineer do this from outside?
How long should you leave the cement to harden before putting the outside seal on?
Could you do a video on vertical flues?
Yes absolutely. Should be in the next few days. Thanks.
Would you ever think of using expanding foam around the brickwork?
That’s the same way l do the flue, can’t go wrong.
Sand and cement always.
You have to AR it if only seal one side and ID it if not seal both side. Why manufacturers don’t keep to one standard .
Would be nice if I get an invite over when you’re installing the ASHP.
Thank you for the comment. Not sure I agree with your classification though but I will save that for another video. Thanks.
It’s the new DRZ400?
Class Allen !!!!
Thanks.
What do you use to fill around flue?
I use sand and cement. Thanks.
We had an Ideal boiler installed with too much flue showing and it's position only 19cm from an open window. Ideal withdrew the warranty. The Gas Safe Register are coming to investigate along with the installation company.
Please let us know how you get on. Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 Morning Allen the Gas Safe Register came last Thursday along with installers. They issued a safety notice against company who have 17 days to comply. Company says it will firstly write to Ideal boilers because they say Ideal have previously told them that it is ok for flue to be in the position it is in! So, awaiting for updates.
Definitely seal up with sand/cement!
Thank You
Great information 👍
Thank You.
Great videos, i love watching you.
I wish to be there, so i can get some experience.
Sir I was also waiting for this video. But please little correction in measurement. 35 cm equals to 350 mm not 305 mm. Thanks
Thank You.
Allan what size do you core
125mm i believe it was. Thanks.
Nicely explained
Thank You
Some good tips there mate
Thank You
Looks an Ideal way to do it
Thank You
Just measure from lip of outside wall too face of 90 bend and add 30mm for slip, perfect everytime
❤❤❤
Thank You.
roy training top man worked for baxi he did some of my training top man
Thank You
👍👍👍👍👍
Hi, I always use sand and cement, you never know what could happen, if it gets knocked or pulled out in the future, you might end up in court if it kills someone.
The best way in my opinion. Thank You.
its 350mm or 35 cm not 305mm ?
great vid exactly how we do it
Thank you.
350mm Allen mate 😂 305 would be be 30.5 cm not 35 quality as usual though 👍
Thank you so much for the correction. I do correct myself later on in the video. Thanks.
305 ? 350 mm he means
Foam is fine
Do ideal say you can use foam? Thanks
Have you tired to take out a flue when it’s been sealed with foam?
It’s a nightmare, just use sand and cement
😬
👍
350mm mate 😀
I am dumb buddy, Thank you for pointing it out.
An easier way is put the flue in like you did from the start and measure from the wall to the centre of the black mark under the flue (near the end of terminal) measure the distance and then take that measurement to cut of the end thats in the elbow
That’s sort of what i did really. Thank you so much for your input.
350mm or 35cm not 305 surely
😂😂😂
I’ve seen this technique (using the wall to make the length) go horribly wrong.
He measured the wrong side and cut it short!
I always measure outside brick to flue elbow. Then cut it down
Thank you for the feedback.
Always seal a flue
Thank You
35 🤫
350 MM
Thank You.
5 ml off white aloud
Not on a Ideal Logic, Thanks.
