You could continue doing monthly videos temporarily but adapt them to the new system:
-January Plan with Me: Cycle 1 Setup
-February Plan with Me: Mid-cycle Check In
-March Plan with Me: Cycle 1 Review
Instead of creating monthly layouts, you could talk about the transition to your new system.

    • @JashiiCorrin

Yeah I was thinking we could do something like “January Bullet Journal Setup” but as part of that first video, introduce the idea of the cycles (just to anyone who would be watching who doesn’t necessarily know what I’m doing) and then ease away from the monthly titles to the cycle titles 🤔

I worked in IT, until I retired in 2015. When we did time estimation for projects, we did time scheduling as a range - average, best and worst - where worst was generally 2x average. Because this left space for unexpected issues. Fortnightly is my favoured period because my pension is fortnightly.

I love this SO much because its such an “adult” schedule and approach. I think a LOT of the planning/planner/bujo community very reasonably is school/university focused. But it doesnt have as much alignment with post-grad existence!!!! This is great!!! I cant wait to experiment and implement this myself! :)

Also - science says we are all bad at telling how long something will take but we are really good at comparing it. So with my teams we compare tasks to previously done tasks to determine if something is a bigger or smaller effort and then plan accordingly using past data. (affectionately refered to as "yesterday's weather") No clue why we insist on trying to be great at something that our brains just don't wanna do. We are weird

I think I will join you in the experiment, Jess. My main goals for 2024 involve forming new habits for physical and mental health and a 2 week period is a good trial period for trying out a habit or new schedule. Good luck to both of us.

I am so happy you're doing this! I have been so frustrated with everyone planning the same way (monthly calendar, monthly habit tracker, monthly mood tracker, maybe some weekly layouts) when that doesn't work for my brain. And I have looked and looked for people that are doing anything different. Really excited to see what comes of this.

  • @Katiedora122

Watching you work on your planning process has definitely been inspiring me to examine my own! I've realized that monthly planning is actually important for my job, and that annual and weekly views are really helpful with ADHD time blindness and giving me structure. But I've definitely realized that I have a lot of life/home/maintenance chores that would work well on a two week schedule, so I've been playing around with some ways to incorporate that. Mostly in my google calendar, but writing it out in notebooks has been helpful, too.

    • @JashiiCorrin
      @JashiiCorrin  Год назад +1

Heck yeah for multiple tools 💪 I like the scheduling function that digital calendars have, so if you want to have the same tasks or blocks on at the same time each week/second week/whatnot, setting it up in there makes things easy 😄💜 Glad you’ve been enjoying the “deep dive” into my planning process 😊

  • @MariekeB95

Prediciting time is also why most of my plans fall through. When one item on the list takes way longer than I expected, and I'm already behind, I can't bring myself to finish my plan. It also doesn't take into account whether or not you feel ill, just exhausted or really excited, inspired etc. Definitely trying this out, too!

I always love listening to you talk about your planning style because it's so different from what works for me. I love planning things monthly because 30ish days is easy for me to estimate how much work I can get done - I think it might have to do with the fact that so much of what I plan has to do with writing and my writing habits just fit well with that time frame. I also am not great at task batching. If I film a video, my brain will not let me stop thinking about it until I edit and upload it and do all the rest of the stuff, so it's much more productive for me to produce one video in its entirety before moving onto the rest instead of doing all the filming one day and all the filming the next, etc. It's just fascinating hearing how other people's brains work differently from mine.

I think it's more that the weekly timeline is one that's a little more present in my daily routines than monthly timelines 🤔 e.g. shops being open or closed on certain days of the week, Vogel getting his pay on the same day every 2 weeks, etc. Whereas there aren't a lot of things that are super relevant to me that happen on the same day of the month each month 😝💜

For how to title cycle planning videos, i think you could combine ideas to something like:
Jan Plan With Me - Cyclic Planning
And for a mid month cycle shift:
May & June Plan With Me - Cyclic Planning
Returning viewers should already know what planning style to expect, so we won't mind the month mention, while new viewers will find you in search, but still get a heads up that this system may be a little bit different.
You're the youtuber tho so if I'm wrong about how the algorithm works, ignore me 😂😂😂

I have been thinking while you have been thinking about Cycles/fortnights. Months/weeks still work for me with habit tracking/ time to check in with goals, BUT as a Mum term time vs holidays is a huge part of our household. Its frustrating that terms/holidays are not consistent with any other time periods...weeks, months or years.... so I'll be doing some investigation around that this year.

Oh my goodness!! I resonated with all of this! I totally get blinders on when I think in terms of months or weeks and then miss important things I should have been planning for cuz of the blinders you discussed!! I love this idea of quarterly planning and have been doing it this past year -kind of- but how you explained it just makes much more sense! I'm totally going to try this with you (but with more consistency than I had been the past year)
Also to get rid of the monthly blinder problem. I made a calendar in Google sheets with no monthly breaks. It continuously flows from one week to the next without month breaks and it helped my brain sooooo much last year that I am definitely doing it again this year!!

I’d love to see a fortnight in the life with your journals. You have so many for different purposes. So which one do you grab when you get up? Which one do you grab when you sit down at your desk? What do you grab when you are changing tasks? What one do you use when you’re done with work, free time, weekend, before bed, planning, reset, content planning, video, brainstorming… for the as needed when do you know you need it? You have outlook and notion also. It all seems so overly complicated

I love monthly planning, but I have been tracking goals by quarters for a couple of years now and it is WAY better. Thinking that way has also made me much more aware of awkward cutoffs in weeks. I used to stick the days with whatever month they belong to, but now I may include them on a different calendar, but I basically count the week in whichever month had 4+ days. Weeklies have become so much more important than monthlies to me.
Your new system has me incredibly curious and your youtube channel has become my favorite bujo channel since it is the one with the most unique and FUNCTIONAL ideas. (And I love that you tell us how long a page takes, that is just incredibly helpful)

Hello, I’m hopeful for success! I think it’s worth a try. I plan in cycles myself. Primarily for work but personally in some areas like gardening as well. Like you, I first defined the cycle, then milestones and impediments. Then, when I review the cycle, I report/track how I’ve progressed in the cycle.
Monthly, perhaps you can consider a monthly “forecast and review” video. This is where you can go over any milestones you expect/hope to hit that month. It would be what you’ve accomplished in this quarterly cycle, what you are working on and what you are looking forward to completing.

Wow, you just such amazing creative concepts and ideas! I am finding that daily lists/planning and hourly schedules might not work for me, so I like the idea of a monthly calendar with a list and/or routines. Would love to see your 5 time blocks. Gretchen Rubin mentioned the four quarters method of dividing your day into four time blocks like morning, day, afternoon, and night. There is a blog post by notes by Thalia Sunday reset routine 3 sections where you talks about a Sunday reset for 3 parts of the day like morning, afternoon and evening. Love the idea of productivity experiments like Erin floto designs in her time management vlogs tried different time management methods, Living like Leila has a video a week of pomodoros, and PetuniaRose in her video called Building a routine am and pm routines mentioned at about 7 minutes into the video about her theme days. I like how Mariane Cresp discussed a mid month review on her channel. Amy Landino talked about having A weeks and B weeks for chores in her My 4 step weekly planning routine video. So, I like the idea trying these method to see what would be helpful!

Don't normally comment, but honestly the instant you mentioned how your life really works on two week cycles, I was like so does mine! This has been a game changer in thinking about planning for next year. Monthly is just too long for me and I also struggle to see the future if I'm only focused on one week at a time. Weekly planning feels like survival mode and monthly is more creative if we gamify how we think about it. I need something in between and I think this just might be the solution. Next year I want to make some really progress on my goals and I am willing to try anything to help me focus and actually get stuff done.

I can't tell you how excited I am for this system. I was the only person I ever met who did two weeks on one day/with a dutch door, because I was becoming blind to the week ahead and it sucked with my autism brain lol. I also plan in quarters, but I LOVE your breakup of the weeks so you can do the 12 week plus the weekly reset. That's such a dope way to do things. Because I think I just get so far into projects I never plan a 'reset, look at how that went' time. And I can't be screwed to do that monthly, lol....but having a nice week in between (cycles? idk if I'm using the words you used correctly) anyway, a week in between clumps of time as a break/rest/reflect/setup for the next, is an AMAZING idea. Kudos seriously for all of this and I'm going to do my best to follow along with it, because I like it so much better. Nothing in the world makes sense less than a month that starts on wednesday and ends on tuesday. lol

I think this is a brilliant use of your time. I found that I spent more time trying to keep up with my weekly spreads then getting any of the actual work completed. I moved to the fortnightly schedule when you first mentioned it and so far it’s working well for me. I’m really interested in seeing how you plan your 13th week ‘reset’. I think that’s a great way to intentionally schedule down time when you’re a sole proprietor because all SPs know we will work until we drop and that’s just not healthy (physically or emotionally).
As for content, I think you have even more options since many people still use the monthly spreads and we always love your themes. You also will now have people doing fortnightly or quarterly. Aaaaaand… you introduced the various size planners so you can do monthly/weekly/fortnightly/quarterly spread layouts in different size journals. 😮
Ooooh… I hope you have one of those 13th week ‘down weeks’ coming up because you’re going to be busy in the new year. 😂

I will have 4 books. Budget, everyday, 5 year and my brain journal where I wriite all my thoughts in. I still fell like that is a lot.

I'm going to try something similar. I hate monthly planning, but i can look at biweekly since that's how i've worked most of my adult life.
So i'll have flip-flop biweekly plans (for two weeks, i'll focus on one project, then switch for 2 weeks, switch back if biweekly 1 is incomplete, or move on to another project) quarterly plans, and of course daily.
Thanks so much for the inspiration!

Cheering you on in your new planning method! I agree with you that I find monthly doesn't match the weeks nicely and weekly sometimes feels to frequent. I appreciate that you are doing sets of 13 weeks (and explaining that extra week), it has got me thinking on the possibilities there as having a seasonal-ish reset sounds lovely! I love reflection time, but find it's best to do after completing something instead of when you are still in it.

Honestly this is brilliant. I've fallen off planning and bullet journaling hard recently (somewhat due to personal issues), but I think your right where my brain just can't plan a full month well, and since I work nights and sometimes weekend nights I get in to "survival" mode so easily if I don't make an effort to plan. I'm excited to try this system out too!

This Is very interesting, and I am curious to hear how It will work for you! And I totally understand the monthly planning issue! I only keep a monthly overview to note down appointments (with the doctor, tax advisor, stuff like that), but not really any planning and even the tracking only in appointment-heavy periods. The rest is a mix of weekly or longer term planning depending on the need - both private and work life currently follow an irregular routine, so I section time matching periods/events, rather than a fixed number of days. It Is less predictable, but so far Is serving me well :)
And I still keep monthly pages for reflections, accounting, changing themes and acknowledging the passing of time/reconnecting with natural seasons

Just an idea for the title for the different plan with me thing ... whatever month the cycle primarily falls in, label it that way so for your cycle Jan 1-14, jan plan with me cycle 1, then Jan 15-28 jan plan with me cycle 2, and so on and so forth. You can still categorize it as monthly plan with me on the playlists but the cycles are still prominent as well. Or, just start a new playlist of planning on a cyclical basis and then cycle 1, cycle 2, etc. Your regular followers will knoe what you're doing and new people to the channel won't but you'll talk about it in the videos so it'll be okay. Especially if you leave a reference link to the videos this month (like this one) where you discuss the cycles and your planning process in the new videos for anyone who would like more reference.

This is so close to how I’ve been doing my planning too!!! You’ve been far more articulate in expressing it! 🤣🤣 I would just call it the January cycle, February cycle etc… I call my 4 week cycle a “block” so it’s my Jan block, Feb block etc, and then my reset week! Which is my permission to plan and not worry so much about implementation! (Cause action is my weakness! Lol!)

I found the 12 week year - method after this video and really like your 13th week to reset the quartal.
When do you start? On 1st of January or do you go by seasons, like spring start on march, summer by june, fall by september and winter by december? I like the seasonal approach, because I plan my themes and stickers around it a little bit.

Hi, i love that idea cause it's so satisfying to divide time in regular cycles. But i think the more you depend on the civil calendar, the less you can use this system. for example if u are a teacher, your schedule is based on a full year and cycles are divided by school hollidays, exams... And beside, a lot of us have our financial schedule based on monthly and yearly divisions (wages, taxes, rent...). So it may seems akward to think outside the calendar for these reasons.
Nevertheless, i find that your system is really interesting and motivating. Especially for someone who works in freelance and does not depend on monthly obligations, it might be really efficient.
For the title of your videos, you could write : January plan with me / quarter 1 cycle 1
will you do a video for each quarter, each cycle, each 2-weeks ? it will be a loooooot of videos :D

    • @JashiiCorrin

Totally feel you on this style not being so suited to certain situations 👏 e.g. my analytics from different platforms always get presented by month, and certain bill cycles are done monthly (unless they're my phone, which is 28 days, because the phone company wants to swindle me out of a 13th payment! 😝). Will be a fun challenge to see how everything fits together 💪

I’m definitely excited to consume all the content you make for this. I suspect I’ll adopt your system as well next year. Because I’m finding that I have a poor sense of time lol and like you I have my reservations for weekly and monthly time blocks
Also, if you find there isn’t enough time in a fortnight or a cycle to film, edit and post, for the next fortnight or cycle, maybe consider posting it AFTER the cycle or fortnight begins?
