One Of Our Favorite Mines We've Explored Ladders, Beautiful Natural Timbering, Colorful Mineral Vein

- In this mine exploration, we visit a mine that turned out to be one of our favorites. After driving the Jeep to the end of a desert road, we follow an old pack trail up to the mine. First, we come to a very sturdy explosives magazine below a large waste rock pile. After checking the bunker out, we find the portal, which is mostly eroded shut. After sliding in through the portal, we were pleasantly surprised to find beautiful natural timbering and a colorful mineral vein. While making our way further into the mine, we came to a large hoist room. There is some interesting timbering there and a big sheave wheel still in it's original position. Further on, we found a short ladder that we climbed, which brought us to an interesting stope with numerous stulls and a good look at the mineral vein. After returning to the main level we found another vertical shaft going down and a long set of ladders going up. We climbed up the long set of ladders and found a cool upper level. We hope you enjoy the video!
Hey guys, we hope you're enjoying today's video. Julie and I will be out exploring for most of the day. Please leave a comment for us, and I will catch up on them when we return. Thanks! ⛏️👌
Just a Thanks Tom and Julie. You two are fantastic people. Be safe and enjoy the travels.
Thank you Tom and Julie. Imagine cutting all that timber with hand saw and axe? I was thinking what that gold would be worth at today’s prices.❤❤
I can't imagine cutting some of those trees with an axe, then working the bark off of them and finally cutting joints by hand saw. Crazy. They deserve to get today's gold prices back then. Thanks, Mark!👍😁
What, no Pirate and you are walking the plank? Tom and Julie, I really enjoyed this one, well I do them all. The quality of the wood joinery in this mine is superb, all the notches and cuts, so impressive. Thank you both for the tour and the break it provides from the drudgery.
Haha, it seems like I've walked a couple planks lately, Mick. Isn't that timbering great. Glad that we can provide a break for you!👍😊
“I better go over there and look” 😂
Like a kid in a candy store 😃
This mine is really really cool...I used to live in that area and I wish I would have done more exploring!
Thanks for commenting, Stephen. Glad that you enjoyed it!👍😄
I was a uranium miner in Moab when I was six years old..LOL
Best times I ever remember..
My dad struck a claim for The Rio Algum Lisbon Valley uranium mine...gave his share to my mom's cousin in 1972
Shut down now 250 employees and refinery built on the site.
Hi CC. I have a photo somewhere of a young miner who looks about six years old. He is very dirty, like coal dirty, he's smoking a pipe, and he's holding a pick that is almost as tall as he is.
It sounds like your dad had quite a mine going there. I can only imagine how hard you guys worked. Thanks for the story of the Rio Algum Libson Valley Mine. 👍😁
As always a great video from two lovely people. My lady and I have completed our first mine explore in the UK, it was awesome; thanks for your inspiration and entertainment guys!! Shame I can’t add a picture to comment as have awesome underground water wheel we photographed!!
Thank you for the kind words, Brian. Good luck with your mine exploring. Stay safe out there!👍😊
To put that much labor into those workings they must have had some pretty good incentive. Just from what they didn't bother with id say that they were getting 8 ounces or better per ton. Thanks for the way you two make these videos. You capture the mines so well. The small hatch at the top of the ladders was just a hatch until Julie climbed up to it. Then we could see just how small it really is. How the heck did you squeeze through that milk chute! I can't wait to see the mill now. Thank you Both so much for making these fantastic videos and preserving these mines forever on video. I appreciate your historical documentation for future generations to see. These old mines are crumbling into obscurity. But these videos will ensure that they remain eternally. That's something you both can be proud of.
Wow, you pretty much said it all. Hopefully we can get back there and go down the shaft(s). Thanks for the really nice comment!👍😁😊
@@TomandJulieMineExploring It's pretty easy to say all that.
When I know what it takes to research gear up and traverse the hills to then have to clamber around in the mines. It's not easy! Again, Thank You for going the extra mile for these videos and those of us who love them.
You have no idea how much pleasure I get from watching you guys climb around inside of old mines! Great content loved it! 😁
That type of comment makes our day. Thanks, Daniel!👍😊
Great mine, I love the natural log timbered sections also the wood work is some of the best we've seen in many mines they had a carpenter...👍👍 Great job Tom & Julie
The timbering here is great. They must have had a good crew doing that work. Glad that you liked it, Dave. Thanks for commenting!👍😁
Hi Tom and Julie,
Another great explore. Well done in all respects.
The hand hewn natural timbers are a great find. As is all the handmade hardware. Thanks for putting in the extra effort to take us along on the long ladder climb and down into the steep stope area. Very well done.
Hi Rob. It is a pretty nice mine. I like those hand worked timbers a lot myself. Thanks for the nice comment!👍😁
Julie is a trooper and that is an amazing mine. To bad so many collapses. Looks like it's almost a workable mine with much left. thanks for another great tour!
Yes, Julie is a good mine explorer. There probably is more value in the mineral vein, although these days, most mining operations are big open style mines. Thanks for the comment, David!👍😁
Thanks for the trip exploring that mine. That mine really had a lot of wood work, I liked the natural timbers they used. Glad Tom found some ladders to climb just always be careful. You guys are really a great team, until next time stay safe and God bless.
You're welcome, Jimmy. Haha, I thought the ladders were pretty good. Those timbers are the stars of this mine. Thanks for the nice comment and for the blessing!👍😊🙏
Another great explore you two. Thank you sharing and for taking me along with you!
You're welcome, Bill. Thanks for watching!😁
Thanks again Tom & Julie for taking us with you! Enjoyed the mine very much!
You're welcome. Glad that you enjoyed it!👍😁
Timbering in a mine is always a plus, but natural timbering is the icing on the cake! And that mine had lots of it! Thanks for taking us along!
Yes, that timbering is fun to see. Glad that you liked it, too. Thanks for the comment, Lesley!👍😁
Hi kids, I have to say that I have been totally taken away by you two and all the mine exploring you do.
I don't think I've ever seen a braver woman in all my 77yrs of life. Tom, you shared some physical needs that Julie was faced with a short time ago and I wanted let you know I have held Julie in my prayers ever since that vidio. You two are so pleasant to watch and I pray you will be able to do this and post your mine explorations for many years to come.
Your faithful follower

I think I saw a tear of gratitude in Julie's eye as she read your comment, Ben. Her cancer has been in remission for about two years now. We thank you for keeping her in your prayers. Since I am only ten years younger than you, I don't think the mine exploring will last for "many years to come" as you put it. Best of enjoy it while it lasts. Thanks for the wonderful comment!👍😊❤️
Kids ? dont think so
I finally got a chance to finish the video. What a great mine. All those old timbers, the craftsmanship to shape them, the hooks looked to me like they were hand forged and the beautiful mineral colors in the veins . Thanks for taking us along. Take care of each other and be safe!
Good for you to finish the video. There really is some nice work here, like the timbers and blacksmithing. Thanks, Ed!😊
GOOD MORNING Tom & Julie. Wow, what a great trip with you today. Beautiful Mine. Thank you so much for taking us with you. John & Cathy Mine lovers from Tacoma, WA
Good morning, John and Cathy. Isn't this a beautiful mine? It's a very fun one to explore, too. Thanks for watching and commenting from Tacoma!👍😁
another great video!
"see it bowing (not the airplane}" @29:40. made me laugh. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
exactly what i was thinking when i heard "bowing" / "boeing". 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great minds think alike. 😆😆
Thanks for the comment!👍😁
Beautiful natural timbering! Nice thick deposit you pointed out in that stope. All the colors. Nice mine! Can't wait to see more! Thanks Tom and Julie!
Those timbers really are nice. That beautiful mineral vein is fun to see. You're welcome, William. Thanks for the comment!👍😁
Thank you Tom and Julie. What a great explore I loved all the timbers what an awesome mine.🍺🍺🍻🍻🥂⛏️⛏️🧨👀
You're welcome, David. Aren't those timbers great. Thanks for watching!🍺🍺🍻👍
Thanks, Tom and Julie, for today's awesome video 👍
You're welcome, Lloyd! Thanks for watching. 😁
You guys are such a cute couple. Love that you have this thing to enjoy together and grateful you share your adventures with us
Thanks for the nice comment, Nikki!👍😊
That was fun!
Lots to look at….beautiful explosives shack, beautiful craftsmanship, beautiful vein, beautiful timbers, awesome mine.
Nice and dry. Not a speck of rust on that sheave wheel.
Great episode. Excellent video.
Thanks you two!!
👍👍👍👊😎
You said it all, George. I bet that shave would spin as smooth as silk. Glad that you liked the explore. Thanks for the comment!👍👍👊😎
I liked this one a lot. All those natural Timbers were awesome and the veins looked rich. Thanks as always! ❤
Yes, the vein is really nice here. Glad that you liked it and the timbers, too. Thanks for watching, Paul!👍👍
Thank for another great mine I look forward to seeing the two of you each week . Stay safe be careful. and again Thank you
You're welcome, Lawrence. Glad that you enjoyed the mine. Thanks for commenting!👌😁
Julie is a trooper alright. I always listen for her to laugh at something--she has a very pleasing laugh. If you got her going laughing at things it would be a nice moment. Whoever built that mine was a good builder/joiner. Some mines look pretty haphazard--this one seemed pretty orderly.
Yes, she is a trooper. I try to get her laughing as much as I can. It's not always easy.😆
This mine does have some nice craftsmanship. Glad that you agree, and thanks for commenting!👍😁
Very interesting mine with natural old timber shoring.
The old timer’s might have been short men, but obviously very strong and industrious individuals.
I enjoy seeing the hand made hooks, anchors, and hardware they made from scratch. ( no big box hardware stores ) just their two hands and an idea to solve a challenge. The minerals in that mine were very interesting and colorful, Mother Earth has been at work a very long time before man came along . Thank you for taking us along ,Stay safe and happy exploring !!!
Aren't those timbers nice. There is some nice blacksmithing here, too, with those hooks and eyebolts. The mineral vein looked rich and a bit nice work from nature.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Tom!👍😁
You are both Troopers and watching you two explore is fascinating to say the least. I always enjoy watching the both of you explore the depths of these mines. The only artifacts were not only cigarettes but the old gas can that was made in Puente. I love watching you guys explore and decide if you should climb up the stairs or not. But 100 feet up and you did it! I wonder how old those home made ladders were? As usual thanks for taking us along. It was Awesome!!🎖🎖 I'll bet you were tired when you got back? Hungry too...🍕🍕
Hi Duane. Glad that you enjoyed the explore. The old ladders are usually well built. The attachment to the stulls is usually the weak link. These were somewhat loose, but none fell off. It was fun seeing that gas can. Thanks for the comment!👍😁
Beautiful Tom and Julie you guys always make my day
Thanks for the kind words, Jerry!👍😊
Got to agree T + J - that one is a hall of famer mine for sure. Thanks as always for sharing it with us!
- Ed on the Ridge
Thanks, Ed. It really is a fun little nine. Appreciate the comment!👌😁
Many mines seem to have some very crude timbering, but it appears that this mine had some master carpenters doing the reinforcing! After over 100 years their shoring is still working flawlessly!
The timbering here is beautiful. As you said, there are all kinds of different levels of quality in the workmanship in mines and this one is top grade. It's not a bad mineral vein, either. Thanks, Eugene!👌😁
The amount of natural timbering in this mine is just incredible. And as you stated Tom “ Where did it ALL come from since there’s no trees that size or type in the area?” Really appreciate what you both go through to bring us all these wonderful videos & I wanted to say a heart felt “ THANKS” to both of you . I’m doubly impressed now that I find you are 4 years older than me Tom, and did not know about Julie’s past cancer issues.😳. May God watch over you both & keep you two safe in your endeavors, and travels. Can’t wait for the next part to this great mine ……🤞. Old Gly from that other mine exploration channel would just LOVE this one .😉
I don't know what to say. A heartfelt 'thank you' to you, Stephen. That's a very nice comment and blessing. 👍😊❤️
Almost all of the wood for the mines along califormia, oregon, nevada, and parts of utah came from colorado, wyoming and idaho
Such a window into the level of labor in the past. Great history lesson, Thank You for taking us along.
Yes, the history involved in looking at the old mines is so fun. Following in the old miners footsteps is amazing. Thanks for commenting!👍
@@TomandJulieMineExploring I have been tagging along on a bunch of your adventures! Really enjoy not only the adventure and the mines, but the point that both of you do these ventures together. Working on doing the same myself someday.
Thank you, Tom & Julie! I bet they got a lot of great ore out of that mine.
Safe Journeys ahead.
You're welcome, James! Boy, you sure would think that they got some great ore off that beautiful mineral vein. Thanks for commenting.😁
Thanks for going up into the stope. Chutes from the top for a change. I could really see where the miners worked and envision what it might have been like.
I like seeing the chutes from above, too. I always wondered why there would be chutes relatively close together. It makes sense when viewed from above on a steep vein. You don't want to have to move the ore sideways, just let gravity do the work. Glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment, Lorrin!👍😁
Bowing vs Boeing, that made me smile 😊. Lotsa natural timber in this one. My dad smoked Pall Mall cigs for as long as I can remember. That single piece of track was way off the beaten path. Probably why it’s still there. When I watch your video’s I always check the time length, 37:50 for this one, and time just flies by. Always entertaining! Thanks, T&J!!
Glad I could get a chuckle out of you, Ralph! Those timbers are great. Glad that we can help the time go by for you. At least you have an attention span of more than two minutes. Thanks for the comment!👌😆

Lol
Hi Tom & Julie, those timbers were very cool to see, seeing those two counterweights and the homemade pulleys was very unique, you just don't see that type of thing normally and it shows great ingenuity by the miners too for making it all out of everyday things, awesome. It's also fairly unique to see a sheave wheel still left in situ too. Well done both of you on those ladders and in and out of the stulls, good job. Thank you for sharing, much love to you both. xx 🥰
Hi Sue! Very nice to hear from you. We hope you are feeling more like your healthy self.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. That big pulley was fun to see. I believe that you're the first person to mention those wooden pulleys on the counterweights. We've not seen that before. You're correct that the miners had to come up with ingenious ways to get things made with what they had on hand. The ladders were fun. Thanks again!👍❤️😊
@@TomandJulieMineExploring the mine was absolutely fantastic to watch from a historical standpoint. Thank you both for all of your hard work. xx🥰

Thank you, Felipe!😁
There’s real beauty in those natural timbers. Some craftsmanship in using the old hand tools.
Most definitely beauty and craftsmanship is this one. Thanks for commenting, Ed!👍😁
Thanks Julie and Tom. Keep up the great job!
You're welcome, Jeff. Thanks for the comment!👌😁
Crazy colours in that mine. Looking forward to the next installment.
It really is a nice mineral vein. Thanks for watching!👍😁
Wow you two, I just got watch the second half of this video, these miners were very good with their bracing and reinforcing in this one, thank you for the tour, stay safe and I will see you in the next one.
Yes, the timbering crew in this one did great work. Thanks, Mick!😁
Great explore as usual❤❤, I wish we had nice dry mines to explore here in BC but 99% are wet and/or flooded.
Sorry to hear that. Dry mines are so much fun to explore. Everything stays in such nice condition. Some of the wood looks like it was just put in last month. Thanks for watching!👍
Now that was a trippy Mine! 🎸🎸 Thanks you two
Glad that you liked it, Cheyenne! Thanks for watching. 🎸😁
Once again a great explore. . I love the stills thanks Tom and Julie
Thanks, Tony. I like to include a few stills. They add a different feel than video does.👍😊

man I REALLY REALLY Enjoyed this one guys! thanks as always for what you share!
I like your enthusiasm. Glad that you enjoyed the explore, and thanks for commenting!👍😁
That was a really cool mine, it had some beautiful woodwork in there. Very interesting mine. thank you for sharing. I look forward to the next videos. From the looks of it, it looks like there still could be gold there, however I don’t know how many tons to the ounce it would be, unless someone milled it and refined it. I know that there are still some people that have staked a claim on some of those old mines in Northern California and they are processing quite a bit of gold out of those old mines to this day. I think it’s really cool to see how they did mining from way back in the early days. Those old wooden ladders and shoots are really amazing. And especially the depth of the mine and especially the amount of hard work those men had to do to clean all that out. Just to be able to see history already made, and somewhat still preserved. Once again, thank you both for your hard work and sharing. 😁👍❤️
Thanks for the comment, Sonny Lou. The timbering here is really nice as well as the ladders and chutes, as you pointed out. It is fun to see the history of these places. Glad that you enjoyed it!👍😁
Another bobby dazzler guys.🤠
I hope that means you liked it. I'll look up Bobby dazzler.😆
Thanks for watching, Kevin!👍😁
Loved it! Just thinking the miners couldn’t pick up a phone and order timbers. Things moved slowly but as you see their work lives on through the explores of you guys. Thank you!
Haha, no they couldn't order things over the phone or from Amazon. Their hard work surely lives on for us all to see. Thanks for commenting, Don!👍😁

Great mine explore, looking forward to the return for the shaft explore.
Thanks, Ray. I'm trying to recover from an injury so I can get down that shaft. I have a torn rib muscle that is killing me. I'm chomping at the bit, as the saying goes, to get down there.👍😁
@@TomandJulieMineExploring Didn't hear about the torn muscle, those are a pain to say the least. Get better then go back to the shafts. I have watched so many of your videos I am having to search threw to find ones I haven't viewed. Get well.

Hello Tom Hello Julie
Thank you for this wonderfull Video.
The mine was great
The timbering is Made in German style very good .
All the timber choped Down with an axe .
What a amount of work.
Of course there are no trees left behind when no one plantet New trees.
So the desert can grow and grow.
I wish you both a happy New week and all the best
Yours Frank Galetzka
Hello Frank. We're glad that you enjoyed the video. You are correct that the timbering is very well made. It's no wonder that there are no trees around outside. They cut them all down and used them in the mine. Thanks for the comment, and we hope you have a great week!👍😊
Hello Tom and Julie, I believe you could term that a double clinch on that hook. Someone really liked to saw timber joints. Those are so well done. The thing that I wonder about is how they got an ore car to that upper lever. It hardly looks like there is any way that one could go up, even in pieces. With that degree of difficulty, it's amazing that they removed it.
Take care of your ribs, Tom. Julie, glad to hear that the cancer has stayed away.
The blacksmith here was as good as the timber joining crew. They both did nice work. Good question about the ore car. I don't know how they did it. There might be something higher up that we could find.
My ribs are killing me as we speak. Julie is doing great. Thanks for the comment, David!👌😁
There arent good carpenters in this day compared to the skills they had back in the day. It seems it would
be the other way around. The work in mines like this is a lost art for shure. Thank you! Regards from Ody Slim

Very cool! It's amazing how many of those old workings there are....been up to the old Barry Storm Jade Mine in Joshua Tree? Friends introduced me back in '71 or so....he still lived on the claim, but died soon after...over 50 years ago, wow.
Hi Steven. Yes, lots of old mines around. We have been to Storm Jade if I'm remembering correctly. It sounded like Barry Storm was an interesting character. Thanks for the story!👍😁

Another fantastic explore, guys!!
That hook dangling from a low stull at 22:50 could have been an anchor point for a slusher. I can't think of what else it would be if not that.
Some really attractive veins in this mine. Veins are always very intriguing to me because they tell a story about the geology in that particular region. The story they tell is one of incredible violence on the part of Mother Nature since the minerals in those ore veins were delivered under incredible heat and pressure - so hot that the supercritical fluids circulating in the faults could dissolve metal! These fluids were heated by an underground plume of magma that was active and on the move in this region. If this is Nevada then all of this activity likely occurred between 7 - 13 million years ago. As the superheated metal-laden fluids rose and cooled through the faults in this region, the metals (gold, silver, copper, etc) dropped out and hardened in a mineral matrix, often containing quartz. The fluids would likely have risen all of the way to the surface, and manifested as a geyser or a hot spring, similar in appearance to Yellowstone.
I could geek out about this stuff all day, LOL.
Hi RG. Thanks for the detailed comment. It is fun to geek out about how all these mineral deposits came about millions of years ago. Like you said, there had to have been some violent events taking place with things getting rearranged and deposited in various places. I should have been a geologist!👍😁
What a mine! Guessing it's far from tapped out. Makes me wonder if a claim would materialize in the future? The mineralization is incredible.
Maybe one of the 2 World Wars stopped mining? Second likely? Guessing that because of what's seen in there. And imagining how many conscientious explorers are leaving it in good order. No graffiti or news papers though. My 2 favorite side parts of any explore. Which I'm not doing, so no complaints!
Thanks 👍🏻 always grateful.
It really is a beautiful mineral vein here. I don't know about any future claims or plans to reopen it. This one doesn't see a lot of explorers for some reason. It is a fairly long ride on dirt to get here, followed by a hike. The mine is very clean, and as you pointed out, no graffiti, papers, or cans.
Thanks for the comment, Rick!👍😁
Hello Julie and Tom. Very nice video. Seeing that wheel that was still in it's place was pretty amazing. Surprised that didn't disappear a long time ago. When you shinned the flash light down passage number 2 I believe it was there was something shinny down there. It didn't seem to move so I don't think they were eyeballs.
Hello Stephen. It's always fun to see a big pulley still in place in a hoist room. I noticed the shiny item down that shaft, too. Not sure what it is. Thanks for watching!👍😁
That was a very cool mine! Thanks for the mine explore adventure!
You're welcome, Scott. Next video is about going down the shaft of this mine. Thanks for the comment!👍😁
Really colorful veins in this mine. I see the colors yellow and gold. Is that actually gold? I see deep red and purple colors. Do you know what those minerals are?
Great timbering. They were great carpenters and craftsman. Seemed like they enjoyed their work working with wood.
Great footage at the end going down each ladder rung. Makes me feel like I was there. With the lack of trees, they would have had to truck all that raw timber and boards in? A real keeper! 👍
Hi Alan, I'm not a geologist, so I won't try to identify the minerals in the vein here. The timbering here is top-notch. I believe they cut what they could from trees near the mine and hauled the rest in. That's why there are no big trees in the area. Glad that you enjoyed the ladder cam. Thanks for watching and commenting!👍😁

Glad that you have explored a few mines. We have spent some time hiking near the Union Carbide tungsten mine near Bishop. The Brownstone mine is above the Pine Creek. There was an aerial tram there that most likely went down to the Pine Creek Mine. The tram buckets are still there.

I think I'll try that next time to save on flashlight batteries. Compliment is appreciated. Thanks, Barry!😆👍
