I'm the older of two sisters and I'm crying from this 'cause I imagine this song is exactly how my little sister feels. I was driven away from my family due to my parents' emotional abuse and I left my sister behind. I felt all of those childhood memories, being there for each other, being the rock that my sister stood on and now I don't even have the choice to reach out to her. I miss her so much and this song gave me a needed guilt that hurts. I hope one day things change between us and I can get the person who's been with me through all my childhood back, but part of me knows it's a long shot. This song reminds me of my relationship with my older brother. We were inseparable when we were younger, but over the years, his mental health seriously declined, and one day, he just left. He's been trying to be a part of my life again, and I know it's been hard for him, but I have had serious therapy just to muster up the courage to text him and tomorrow, we're going to see a movie. He broke a lot of promises and (although he didn't mean to) he really hurt me. We're slowly rebuilding our relationship, and it's going pretty well so far.

I’m in uni now, and I really miss my younger sibling so much. The fact that I now live in a dorm no longer sharing a bed again with them makes me so sad. I can’t barge into the room and annoy them anymore after school. I can no longer have random midnight conversations or just pick them up and drive to the nearby mall after school. I can only see them at least once a year during school holidays (different country). The fact that one day we will have to part ways again due to work or marriage makes me dread it so much. My sister and I had quite the age gap (9-10 years)so there are things we couldn't do, but the little details or sharing a space ,the theft of each other clothes(we were already "grown up" enough and with similar height),my sister married ..quite a while agoo,but left home just 2 years and a half ago...what I mean to say is that you give me some memories that make me cry a little bit ... My younger sister moved away to live with our dad several years ago and this song just really hit me since it’s really how I felt when she moved. Finnegan swiped again at a spot he knew he made all by himself while drinking late, when clients were home and all he had for company was the sound of the sea nearby. He gazed upon the vast ocean, wondering how. How did it all go so wrong, for Eric never to call him. He knew Eric was busy, trying to claw his way to a teaching degree, and struggling with addiction the same as his did make things harder than it should've been. He could reach out. Eric just kept the status quo after all. They never talked much after the accident. The night their dad died. It wasn't an accident at all, Finn knew this. But saying it was is easier than acknowledging the fact that his baby brother just killed their father. CPS never did anything, even when they were called by Mary's mother. Finn remembers that day, it was a week after Eric's arm got broken in Mary's tumble down the tree. I’m in uni now, and I really miss my younger sibling so much. The fact that I now live in a dorm no longer sharing a bed again with them makes me so sad. I can’t barge into the room and annoy them anymore after school. I can no longer have random midnight conversations or just pick them up and drive to the nearby mall after school. I can only see them at least once a year during school holidays (different country). The fact that one day we will have to part ways again due to work or marriage makes me dread it so much. My sister and I had quite the age gap (9-10 years)so there are things we couldn't do, but the little details or sharing a space ,the theft of each other clothes(we were already "grown up" enough and with similar height),my sister married ..quite a while agoo,but left home just 2 years and a half ago...what I mean to say is that you give me some memories that make me cry a little bit ...

My younger sister moved away to live with our dad several years ago and this song just really hit me since it’s really how I felt when she moved. Finn wasn't the one that moved on from the bar. In fact, now that he thought bitterly, he wasn't the one who moved on at all. Eric did. Eric, his little brother, the one Finn hugged so tight he'd wriggle away as their father screamed at their mother, beating her down like the punches he so casually delivered, moved away.
Finnegan swiped again at a spot he knew he made all by himself while drinking late, when clients were home and all he had for company was the sound of the sea nearby. He gazed upon the vast ocean, wondering how. How did it all go so wrong, for Eric never to call him. He knew Eric was busy, trying to claw his way to a teaching degree, and struggling with addiction the same as his did make things harder than it should've been. He could reach out. Eric just kept the status quo after all.
They never talked much after the accident. The night their dad died. It wasn't an accident at all, Finn knew this. But saying it was is easier than acknowledging the fact that his baby brother just killed their father.
CPS never did anything, even when they were called by Mary's mother. Finn remembers that day, it was a week after Eric's arm got broken in Mary's tumble down the tree.
Eric sat on the front porch, his knees pulled to his chest and his casted arm clutched awkwardly against his chest. Finn, who was 17, stood a few feet away, leaning against the panneled wall. He lit a cigarette he’d stolen from their dad before Eric said anything.
“I just don’t get it, Finn,” Eric had said. “They veni, vidi, vici. Just like that.”
"What?" Finn didn't understand right away. He never was good in school. He waited for Eric to repeat himself.
"They came, they saw, they went."
Finn took a drag looking at him, and then the smoke escaped his mouth as he looked away. “That’s how it goes, little dude.”
Eric scowled. “What’s the point of that lady even coming here? She saw everything, and she didn’t even care! She just nodded along...”
Finn exhaled a long stream of smoke, his voice ground flat. “Man... Just calm down. CPS are crap, you knew that.”
Eric slammed his one good fist against the wooden porch, his voice rising. “Mom left, CPS doesn’t care, and we’re stuck here with him. Why? Why did she leave us?”
"Shut up. He'll hear us." Finn flinched but kept his expression neutral, his fingers tightening around the cigarette. He didn’t look at Eric, couldn’t.
“She didn’t leave,” he muttered, too low for Eric to hear.
“What?” Eric snapped.
“Nothing,” Finn said too quickly, taking another drag.
Eric had glared at him, his anger bubbling over. “Finn, ya can't just drop this on me!"
Finn opened his mouth to retort, but the sound of gravel crunching under tires cut him off. Both boys turned to see James stepping out of his beat-up truck, holding a paper bag in one hand and looking at them with a mix of concern and weariness.
“Hey, boys,” James said, climbing the porch steps. “Figured you could use this.” He handed the bag to Eric, who looked inside to find sandwiches, water bottles and a couple of apples.
“Thanks,” Eric muttered, his anger simmering down to a quiet burn. He always was quick to anger, but his anger always dwindled just as quickly.
James crouched down to his level, his voice soft but firm. “You know, you and Finn are always welcome at my shop or the beach house. Always. Anytime you need a break, you come find me, alright?”
Eric stared at him, his jaw set tight. “Why can’t we just live with you, James? Why can’t we just leave this place?”
James let out a grumbled laugh, ruffling Eric’s hair. “Because the law doesn’t see it that way, kiddo. They’d call it kidnapping."”
Eric’s face fell, his shoulders slumping.
James straightened up, his eyes narrowing as he noticed the cigarette in Finn’s hand.
"And you." With a quick motion, he snatched it away and smothered it under his boot. “You’re too young for that crap, Finn. Don’t let me catch you with one again.”
Well, James caught them both many times with worse, Finn mused.
They were both only boys. They couldn't have known just how soon things would turn to shit.
Finn still wished Eric goodnight when he drank another pint.
