    Takeaways:
    1. Look past initial defender more.
    2. Lock in on the rim early.
    3. Scan the floor more in transition.
    4. Train in live situations.

    Much needed video because that difference between shooting in a walled gym and an arena is so real!

    • @raveriv8981
      @raveriv8981 3 года назад +2

      Is it??..I think that's only if you can't shoot..yeah it's somewhat harder to focus on the rim, but muscle memory kicks in and then vision is certainly secondary

    • @elitesmartathletes
      @elitesmartathletes 3 года назад +12

      @@raveriv8981 in my opinion, the depth perception changes and if you’re not used to playing in open arenas there is a difference at first. Takes a sec to get your feel

    Hands down the most underutilized skill that isn’t spoken about enough. This is the EXACT thing that hindered my game the most. Always being able to dribble and finish in practice but in game never being able to do anything. HEAD UP EYES UP! Allows you FOCUS, READ, REACT. We are in our own heads too much instead of letting instinct and hand eye coordination to take over. This is why they say don’t text and drive “if your staring down you can see the road ahead of you”. DEEP! Lol! THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO! UNDEFEATED!!!!!

    IMO this is facts, when I used to play soccer you constantly have to scan the field and look for the open player and space. When you have the ball using peripheral vision is so key.

    Yup even on those set of basketball drill/tip videos MJ did early 2000s he had a segment about defense and explained defenders should be using their peripheral more instead of constantly turning their heads. It works. Keep turning your head and somebody can cut in a split second and score. And in transition that’s why younger Rajon was so spectacular bc in transition sometimes he’d take 1 or 2 looks down the court, get on the break and make the play he saw 3 steps before kind of like the Equalizer

  • @roy7661
    @roy7661 2 года назад

    Looking at the floor while dribbling is essential to make quicker actions with the ball. When you dont look at the floor when dribbling in tight areas you dont catch the ball the exact way you want. Theres a good reason best ball handlers in the nba look at the floor, they can catch the ball exactly how they want and pass/shoot quicker off the dribble without the need to correct the position of the hand when catching the ball.

    You have any ideas for small sided games that would encourage scanning?
    I was thinking 3 vs. 3 (or however many ppl), one person with the ball in the backcourt. Before starting, get them to close their eyes, You can place the teammates to their left or right, infront or behind them (change it from Rep to rep), the defenders can be in a position to trap the ball handler, play man-to-man, be trailing, etc (change it from Rep to rep). And give a time limit to score within.
    Once you start the game, the ball handler opens their eyes and has to scan the floor in order to score within the allotted time.

      There still is so much more that goes into a drive to the basket or catch and shoot. Most of basketball is using your awareness, reaction/s, timing, communication. There of course is more to that but not everything works all the time, confidence will build your game
