Aussie here, I have a 2008 ST1300 Police Model.
A few points:-
1) It's a bit heavier than 250kgs, actually it's 297 dry and with fluids and a full tank it's about 330 kgs, but you'd never know it, even at slow speeds it steers like a dream.
2) That big knob under the seat isn't the damping adjustment, it's the preload. The damping is adjusted by a long screwdriver through a hole in the metal plate on the other side of the bike.
3) The steering is delightful as you noted, I've found I can initiate a turn in with a slight shimmy of the hips, it's almost telepathic.
4) The hardest thing about riding the bike is not inadvertently speeding, more so than any bike I've ever ridden you really have little indication of speed from the engine or the suspension.
5) It's an amazing bike, surprisingly agile and even sporty if you feel like it, good economy if you behave (I'm talking 20kms/litre) and as you noted ridiculously comfortable.
I disagree about the slow speed steering. My 2011 R1200RT steers like a dream at slow speed. I think the Pan steers quite heavy at low speeds.

@@Mark-yn5ltdisagree. I’ve done on road support for marathons, bike rides a straight line at idle >5kph moving amongst amateur runners. Other end of the scale carrying a technical official or photographer inside a triathlon. Very agile bike for size.
I just purchased here in Arizona a black 2006 model with the Pan European top case, it has 68k miles but, it look and rides like a brand new motorcycle ...... it was kept in a garage and the gentleman is a motorcycle tech so he maintained it amazingly ..... It's something to proudly own !!!!!

I bought one a few months ago , a 2006 . I have done around a thousand miles on it with it being a UK winter. It's an amazing bike and does everything so well. The v4 is an absolute peach with enough power on tap to loose your license. It's blown me away how well it rides for a big old heavy bike , it still feels so tight . I absolutely love it.

Honda made a HUGE blunder when they dropped the ST1300, they really should've updated it, dropped some weight & added some features. There's nothing in the range beyond the yawningly boring NT1100 & the terrifyingly massive Gold Wing. Yes, it needed to be updated to new emission standards, but they managed it for the Gold Wing which, due to the way engines work, the 6 cylinders made it even harder to meet Euro 5 than the St's 4 cylinder unit..... if Honda can't be bothered then maybe they should make a smaller version of the Gold Wing, maybe lop 2 cylinders off to make it 1200cc, lighter, more fuel efficient, cheaper to buy, maybe call it the Silver Wing?
They did that already ... Its called a 84-87 Goldwing interstate ... 1200 cc , 671 pounds dry weight full dressed , 40 - 50 mpg ... great wind protection and quiet ... Carrys a ton of stuff plus plenty of room for a passenger ... i have ridden all the wings and the 84-87 is the jewel of the Eagles den ... Its my opinion of course
I changed my ST for the new Goldwing non tour but agree something cheaper would had been nice. Also in white as I agree with you on that😀
Why do you describe the Goldwing as terrifyingly massive? I'm an ex Pan European owner. I stand 5'6" and weigh in at about 10.5 stone. I now ride a 2019 Goldwing that I've had for 5 years from new. As a shortarse I actually find the Goldwing easier to handle and live with than the Pan European. There are some features on the ST that have advantages over the Wing but very few (price is an obvious one) and the Wing does come with a few features I never use (like most cars these days). Given a free choice between the Wing and the Pan Euro for a long ride or tour I'd take the Wing every time. That said I'm not saying that the Pan Euro is a bad bike in any way. I loved mine and had it for years. They are great bikes. BTW I agree with your yawningly boring comment.
Agree but they probably saturated the market and the ST1300 keeps going! They maybe made it a bit too good!

195,000 kms on my '07 ST (On , Canada). the bike also has a dual lock for helmets under the seat, and a "prop rod" to keep the tank lifted when you want to get under there.
Mine is non ABS but has a linked front/rear brake ,kinda cool. the glove boxes get really warm inside, I keep a spare pair of gloves in there on cold days,
switch out if my fingers get cold. mine also has a heated seat, racing clutch, and rear brake light modulater, great bikes.
We call those front pockets pie warmers down here in Australia.
I have been gathering information about the Pan European ST1300 for a while now, as it seems like the good one to get back into motorcycling (I am 55 and my last bike was a 92' 900CBR... 16 years ago). It's just a shame that, here in France, bikes were limited to 100 hp (73,6 kW) until 2016. As a consequence all ST1300 are bridled and it costs a fortune to get them legally unrestrained. Anyway, thanks for your great video that makes me want my own (unrestrained) ST1300 even more !

Thanks for the feedback. yes the French hp restriction must have been a pain. i was aware of that when i was looking at bikes to own in France, luckily my scram 411 i keep in Brantome doesn't even get close.
the st1300 was a fabulous bike to ride, the engine was a work or engineering art. good luck with your search.

I got to try out an ST1100 once. That felt really sporty for a tourer (ie a bike with all day comfort) so I can see why many UK police forces bought them.
Arguably, I think the best tourers will have more of a cruiser demeanour. Thus my "pipe & slippers" R1150RT was the best tourer I ever owned.
YMMV.

Someone’s done a mod to the dash. The LCD is usually orange. I’m guessing someone replaced the LEDs and filter on the back with white LEDs and White Filter. Looks nice.
Pros for mine
* Smooth
* great engine sound
* electric windscreen.
* calm air behind screen.
Cons -
* top heavy.
* huge.
* difficult to push around.
* slower than expected.
* Five speed box.
* very thin pilot seat.
Just bought a 2009 with 30k miles. 2 previous owners. Looking to put many more on it.
Great bike. Add a comfort seat and heated grips and keep an eye in tyre pressure. I've had 3 x 1300s and always look out for low mileage examples. Had a few 1100s but the newer bike is much nicer. Not the best bike on twisty bumpy mountain roads but for touring and b roads it is peerless. Concours 1400 is faster but also more expensive. Fjr is too low and not as comfy. I think the v4 is a lovely mill. 6 speed would be nice. Handling is great. I tried the nt100 but lack of shift is a killer plus the engine is boring and has no character. Tried an mt09 and it was poorly finished with terrible ergos. Happy to hold onto mine till I'm 80.
Always liked the 1300 but could never afford it, so I ended up getting the 700 Deauville.
i had the Deauville, the most comfortable bike ive ever owned. loved it
This big gal & the likes of Yamaha FJ etc. really make great touring bikes.
Welcome to the World of the ST1300. I bought my first ST1300 in November 2005, off the dealership floor. By 2008, I was doing a 125 mile a day commute on it. Due to the high mileage I had on the 2005 by 2012, I bought a wrecked 2004 ST1300, that had 31K miles. I fixed it, a year later (2013), bought a 2010 with 1.5Kmiles, fixed that, in 2014, bought another wrecked 2004 with unknown miles on it, fixed it. Then in 2015, I bought a 2012, off the dealership floor. So, with the five ST1300s, that I have owned: 2005 - 174.3K miles (sold to a son, 2013), 2004#1-37K miles (I still own), 2010 - 100K miles (sold to a son

its one of those bikes that was engineered with no expense in my view. still looks great, rides like it just left the factory. itll have fans for many more years to come.
I decided that I wanted a Pan recently and after reading a few reviews I concluded that the 1100 model seemed to be more loved so I spent some time hunting down a mint low mileage 1100. The 1300 seems to be superb, I was put off the 1300 by reports of dangerous wobble that resulted in fatalities but it seems that was only on the first year bikes and was subsequently fixed.
yes apparently it was to do with the police overloading them with radio kit which upset the stability . still a great bike though.
