I'm a bit backwards as I like looking down at a skinny topline so blades give me more confidence.
Same here man, I can’t stand looking at a chunky club, plus they usually feel terrible off the face. Also with blades I find a tighter strike pattern. Kinda like modern big headed drivers vs 3 woods, having all that extra space seem to equal a larger strike pattern. But to each their own, I’ve been looking at thin, bladed top lines since the 90’s so it’s what my eye likes and the iron game has always been my strength, I like shaping the ball around the course.
Literally just came to the same conclusion. This is only my second season playing golf and im 30. I went zx5 with stiff shafts, which was great but I noticed I was having confidence issues with the lower irons because of how "thick" they looked. Got a used set of z-forged 2 irons, tried them out today in the SIM and barring a drop in total distance the dispersion is tighter and I feel like I can comfortably release my hands without exposing the bounce at impact.
Honestly, I bought a set of blades at a 24 handicap with the express purpose of getting better at ball striking, which i absolutely did. The main thing about them is that they dont go a long way. The actual forgiveness is acceptable as long as you are somewhere around the middle.
It's only if you are expecting an exact output, then you need to be super precise with the strike. I played blades then moved to hollow head and my ball striking is more than adequate now, just putting and short game to sort out my scores 🤪
I love the last version of the Z Forged. I feel like these MK IIs are a throwback to the old Mizuno T-Zoids
Great shout Jeff they were fantastic irons. I still have the T-Zoid pro 2's with that slight cavity back and solid central "bar" they feel just fantastic.
I love blades and would never go back to chunky shovels. Look great. Feels great. Golf great.
For reference I dont keep a handicap but i am probably around a 25 floating anywhere between a 90-100 for score. Not saying GI clubs wouldnt help, but my scores are also a product of poor short game and on course management. With that being said I hope my ball striking will improve over time with the feedback I get from blades rather than trying to cover up my iron striking with GI clubs.
My first used set I picked up were mp33 blades. I have used blades ever since (I can’t quit the butter). I do not recommend starting with blades however if you learn to hit some old butter knives you can seriously hit anything.
I use Cobra MB Forged blades and absolutely love them! I trust them so much more than my old GI Irons. No offset, no forgiveness no compromise. Granted you do lose yards when they aren't struck out of the middle but I would rather know when I'm not hitting them properly.
that's funny, playing cobra MB/CB combo, but always torn on weather I "should" be playing those, or my Maltby ts-1 for more "forgiveness". End of the day I can play good or bad with either set I guess.
I switched to the Mizuno Pro 221 blade last fall. I play them all the way up to 5 iron with no blending. I love the classic looks and enjoy the challenge of improving my skills versus using clunky equipment to compensate for a lack of skill. I found that they have made me focus on strike in a way that my previous clubs did not. I feel even the smallest mishit ( not uncomfortable but you know exactly where you missed) and yes I do lose distance when I miss. 5mm off and I lose maybe 5 to 10 yards, but if you hit it in the toe or up the face, the carry drops off dramatically. I am very happy with what I have learned about ball striking as I practiced with them this winter. I actually hit them farther than the comparable lofts in my old clubs because I have improved strike so much. Don't think I'll be switching back any time soon. I could consider going to the 225 at the long end of the bag but I don't feel the need at this point.
I personally have experienced similar improvements in my swing after switching to blades. It's almost like all my swing faults are highlighted immediately and have no where to hide.
I love the challenge too. Miss hits are really noticeable, but my compression and strike has improved dramatically as a result after 12 months.
However, swing speed is an issue for me, my swing issues come from trying to murder the ball. Consequently, I would buy a blend in the future. blade pw-7 and blend 6, 5,4 as a CB to get a little bit if help.
Like you guys, I switched from ping G2 irons all the way to mizuno mp68’s. I don’t like when people limit a handicap to blades. I had a similar experience and improved my ball striking bc my flaws were shown by the iron. I also have been able to actually play a shot shape instead of relying on the ball to go straight. The key in all this is the willingness to be challenged. Blades are not for weekend warriors but neither are player’s distance. You have to be dedicated to learning blades but honestly I’ve played the best golf of my life with them.
@@MacFr33zy Awesome to hear.
Average 20 handicap comment
6 hcp here just back to blades (mizuno 221) after years on "players irons", titleist t100, callaway x-forged, taylor p770. and i must say the difference in forgiveness isnt that much. modern blades arent even close to -2old-2 blades, much more turf interactions, modern shape same as players CBs, lofts are the same and anyway u can adjust em. tbh i realy dont feel a lack in forgiveness to make me say "with my t100s i would have landed this on green instead of bunker". a bad shot is a bad shot. a good shot is a good shot. my 2c
I only play old blades. I tried many times to play cavity backs and game improvements, but they all make my misses way bigger, especially the flyer going over the green. The great thing with old blades is my misses are kept under control. So yes, a blade is difficult to hit pure, but my scores are thanking me for playing them.
My numbers with an MB are better than anything out there. With that being said, those perfect strikes that give me those numbers are around 7 out of 10 strikes. That bit of help drops a few strokes over a round. T100s are in the bag, but I ALWAYS have a set of MB’s ready to roll and I absolutely love playing an MB.
Blades will live on at the bottom end of the bag now more manufacturers are enabling combo sets. I just bought a new set of irons from Taylormade, P790 6, 7 and 8 and P7MC 8, 9 & PW. Yes I have two 8 irons which I quite like the quirkiness of, but it meant I got the right gapping without resorting to bending irons. Thanks Mark it was your advice, reviews and thoughts on combo sets that gave me the idea and "permission" to go blended.
Absolutely spot on when suggesting more forgiving irons are potentially easier to shape shots with. Top content as ever 👍
Srixon player here and huge fan of the brand. Had a look at these yesterday and damn they are gorgeous. Building my first combo set ever this year coming off the 785's which I've loved and still do. Love the new line up but I wish some how Srixon could get the MKII ZX 7 closer to the topline of the Zforged(without sacrificing their playability of course). They are so clean and sexy looking. Combo set that's incoming from my fitting is the MKII ZX5 in the 5 & 6 iron, 7-PW in the MKII ZX7. One day when I have money to burn for a secondary set I plan on buying a set of blades just for fun and to have them with no delusions that I should actually be gaming them.
2:48 Noted on your point and it makes sense. If we still can slice/hook the hell out of our GI irons, that means technically they are capable to shape golf balls right to left or left to right. However, what about controlling flights in terms of heights? GI irons are designed with high MOI to help the golf balls launch high, so trying to control the heights of your golf balls (especially low flighted shots) theoretically is more difficult with those irons compared to bladed ones.
Definitely, GI iron launch higher with less spin. I’ve played titleist MB’s since the 90’s, probably 7 or 8 sets. I tried some AP2’s for half a season and they were hard to control distances and harder to flight low. Also you have to try harder to shape the ball, they like to stay straighter because of less spin plus they don’t feel as nice off the face. I’ve always liked shaping the ball aground the course but I found the forgiving clubs would just stay out and not want to curve back and on 3/4 shots they’d often fly the green. They’re just designed to go high, long,& straight which most decent players don’t want in their mid-short irons at least, you want to have control.
I have switched between CB’s and MB’s and CB/MB combo’s over the last 10 years. Tried HMB power bats and went back to MB’s. Currently play MP20 MB 6-PW which are about to be replaced with Ping i230’s 6-9i and moving to a 4 wedge setup 45;50;54;58 which I expect should see me right for at least a hand full of seasons. I don’t buy the workability but I do buy into consistent distance control which some of the power bats (P790; 225’s etc) don’t always provide.
For me the i230’s were so consistent with forgiveness. And if they are good enough for the worlds biggest golf club geek who now sponsor free can use anything he wants Bryson DeCham Beast then they are certainly going to be good enough for this hacker! 😂
Those look almost identical to my old Mizuno T-Zoid True irons which is a great feeling iron.
You beat me to it. The more things change the more they stay the same lol
Been waiting for weeks for mine .... totally amazing blades of today .... been using the previous model for 4 years.... won't back off Srixon Blades any day soon.... that brand is simple miles ahead of other brands....
I definitely agree that blades are less common in player's bags. The modern-day cavity back irons are more blade-like in appearance, but offer more forgiveness.
Just returned to Srixon after a disastrous 7 months away. A combo of Forged Mk11 and ZX7 MK11.... really pleased to be back playing Srixon
Please make a video comparison between your zx4 and the blades. What club will have the tighter dispersion??
seeing how beautiful you portray the srixon irons i got the srixon zx7 and zx5 mk2 combo! been dialing it in and loving it so far! with my game i should just get the zx4 but i just love the looks of the zx7. the z forged is a whole different realm that i would never ever touch haha
Switched from blades to titleist t100 after noticing how many pros have made the switch. It is more difficult to flight low, but the forgiveness is worth it
Wow… Just beautiful… I’d totally say yes to these if I were in the market… and I would definitely blend with a long iron or two. I like having that feel 165 yds in… and I would trade it if I could hit better shots the longer I go. Great stuff Mark!!! Lovely blades…
Just ordered these in 8-PW. I tend to hit my short irons in the middle the vast majority of the time but struggle in anything longer than 8 iron. In my opinion they aren't any smaller looking than the T100s I've played for 2 years. Got the 6-7 in ZX7 and play hybrid in 4-5.
went from cleveland 588tts to a combo set of 945 pw-6 & 745 in 4 and 5, after a bunch of lessons and work to get from 12-15 to around a 5-6 handicap. (no membership anymore, i just play twilights when it's quiet). I won't go back to game improvement in the lower numbers. my misses are probably shorter but less off-centre. did take a quite a few rounds to get used to of course.
I have the taylormade RAC old but refurbished new shafts grips ect, used cavity back clubs, but I found that I don't have to swing my blades to hard, as I had to with the cavity back clubs, yes blades aren't as forgiving but for me they were the progression from using blade wedges.
To be honest whatever irons you use and you enjoy them don't worry about it
Combo is key👌🏼
P-8 MP 18 MB
7-4 MP 18 SC
🥰
I'm combo-ing a MB in the P to 8 and CB 7 to 4... Not sure there's that much difference in "forgiveness", but clearly launch tends to be lower in the MB, then CB, then hollow, then pure SGI... Which is why I do "need" blades in the short, scoring clubs... I hit a HIIIIGHHH draw with loads of spin, which in the wind is (at times) a bit harder to control. Plus, let's be honest, I love the feel and the look.
This is the very first and only channel so far that has reviewed blades, that discussed a blades ability to control ball flight compared to cavity back irons. Obviously they are not as forgiving, but if you can flight the ball better, they may be a good choice for some.
I basically learned to play with Nike vr pro blades and still use them to this day. Have not looked down on a better looking iron than those and do not ever want to go away from them.
The most important reason is dispersion front to back. It's +/- 2 yards on well struck shots. It goes the number.
I guess it depends on what you are looking for from the game of golf.
I've played since the early 70s & obviously started with blades. Today's blades are easier to hit but still require good ballstriking.
I am OK if my misses don't fly as far or I miss greens due to bad strikes. Why? Because there's no greater satisfaction for me than the awesome feel of a good strike with a blade. I'd rather hit a good feeling shot to 20 ft from the hole than miss it to 6 ft. Am I crazy? Maybe, but I'll sign off with a quote from the late, great Jimmy Dugan: "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great."
The top line and over all size of the club looks fairly big for a blade. I’ve always preferred blades, they spin more, they’re easier to shape, easier to control distances, fit my eye better over the ball, ect. I tried for half a season to play with some forgiving clubs that were AP2’s and I found them to go to long and were harder to control distances, didn’t feel as solid, didn’t spin as much, and my ball striking got worse. Went back to my titleist MB’s and instantly my iron game was back, which was always my strength. Maybe it’s just what I’m used to, I’ve played titleist MB’s since the 90’s when I was a kid, my last 3 sets of irons were the exact the same 710 MB’s. I might be upgrading to the new 620’s though, I like the less offset they have and the simple design is a thing a beauty. I think people phyc themselves out because club companies say you have to hit blades absolutely perfect or they won’t go anywhere, you can absolutely miss hit them a bit and it’s fine, same with any iron, a miss hit is a miss hit.my idea of a miss hit is 1/4 inch off max but If your a decent ball striker, have a decent clubhead speed, probably 115+ with driver, I think people would be surprised how blades actually preform. I don’t see myself ever not playing them up to at least 5 iron, then maybe something a little more forgiving for a 3&4 but right now pw-3 blades and I haven’t found a driving iron that out preforms my old ping eye2 1 iron, it’s old, it’s ugly but it’s an absolute rocket, 3wood distance but lower and straighter.
Love the look of blades. I don't play them but love the look and feel. I went for what I feel is close to a blade in the T100 moving from more of a game improvement iron and since moving to the smaller head, I've shaved several shots off my handicap. I'm all for playing what you like and what gives you confidence. Sure, you lose a little bit of you can't consistently hit close to the middle, but a chunk is a chunk and a thin is a thin no matter what iron you're playing although you may not break your hands thinning a game improvement iron. Those z forged are gorgeous
We can use the lower end of the bag, 7,8,9,pw, if our sw is a blade we should be able to use them then use more forgiving irons in the top end of our bag, that's what I do.
I only started playing golf in June 2022 but I see a lot of snobbery and judgemental people in golf. People look at my paradym x irons and say my scores are because of my helpful clubs! 🤯 it doesn’t matter what clubs you use, it’s all about your score and did you enjoy it.
Too many egos around thinking they can hit blades, but rarely people can
The counter point could be made about how Pros want to squeeze any advantage out. The weekend warrior doesnt have lively hood on the line so play whatever makes you happy on the course. i feel like its easier to flight blades though
💯 play what ever makes you happy. 👍
My first set of "marquees" clubs were the deep-cavity Callaway '97 Big Bertha Irons. I had no trouble "bending" any of my shots. 😱
Of course, the use of different tools, there will be a significant difference in quality
You convinced me to get blades by the end of the video 👏
i’ve been gaming zx7s for 2 years and the best irons i’ve ever hit but i’ve certain at some point I will add this z Forged mkii Pw in the bag bc I want a more versatile PW that is easier to flight down or pitch around the greens or hit a number. so definitely not dead
Good stuff. Id like a combo of MB/cb where the blades end at 8i
Great review and really good points. The MKII look amazing. Your point at the end about them still being relevant in a combo world is bang on the money. As a 10hdcp im using a blended set ZX7 5-8, Zforged MKI 9-PW and love it. Not much diff ZX7 9-PW, but chose Zforged as theres just such a nice feeling using and seeing those shiny lovely irons sitting in the bag! Im an average golfer and the zforged in 9-PW is totally fine, nothing to be scared about - to me no real diff than hitting your bog standard wedge like a 50deg vokey. I wouldnt touch a 5i though lol
Mixing has to be the best way to go. I have Mizuno MP-18 blade PW-8i. Then MMC 7 & 6 irons, Fli-Hi 5 iron. The blades are bent slightly stronger to match the MMCs.
I really like my Mp 5, 7 iron which I got on eBay for a good price to try a blade, my biggest issue with blades is the price, good looking blades like mizuno Mp5 Rarely get into my price range while still being in very good condition and I prefer clean looking clubs.
I have these iorns and they are something different when it comes to spin into firm greens.
They go the same distance as all iorns lofted the same.
Finesse shots around the green, knock down and little runners are easier with irons that are not so hot (ime). But I guess you could practice it, but the disparity between specialist wedges and low/mid game improvement irons is something I struggle with. A blended set would help, but they are extremely difficult to buy in most retailers.
I suck I play +18 my putting is horrible and have no consistently with driver. I have zx4 and Taylor made 7mb blades. I also used to have the ones before Zx5 (z585 or something) I brought the zx4 to replace the z5’s for help to lower my score, but they hurt my game, they didn’t improve it. I already had 7mb blades I brought cause they looked cool. But I never used them except in a simulator. Anyway I took them out with me a couple times and have never looked back. Yes I struggle sometimes with the 5 iron but i struggle at that distance no matter what. So my conclusion is although I’m not great I prefer the blades I feel more confident, comfortable and I love the feeling.
PXG blades are great is what I know. My iron play went way better when I switched from Callaway cavity backs to PXG. I went to the PXG fitting and they set me up. I only have trouble with the four and five irons where I should use hybrids anyways.
Most PXG irons are hollow-body design and not true blades. I'm not putting them down, they are great clubs.... except the gen 4 that is.
@@ericwilmsen5932 mine are blades, 211 ST irons that are real blades. Not sure if they still make them right now.
If they came in lefty, I would have a set on the bag. I prefer the cleaner look of the older Z Forged. I didn't like the lack of face feel in a hollow body club. The blade requires me to put a proper swing on it.
I hit my MP-18s off the toe all day long and the shots are amazing. I don’t know why people think blades aren’t forgiving.
Because they watch youtube and listen to golf shop gurus like i did and i got the ping i525 last year and don't like the feel anymore
I love the feel of a bladed iron, wouldn’t mind one in my bag just for certain shots, but not even sure they do the Z forged in left handed so I’ll stick with what I’ve got
What improves your Golf is practice, practice, practice and learning a repeatable swing. Not any club in the world will make your body movements better, I don't buy the marketing BS of "Game Improvement Irons vs Blades" etc. Just pick an iron with a nice feedback and that you enjoy hitting 😊
Excellent video , but zx4 Mk ii with diamante zx 60 shaft did not go as far for me as MizunoTourPro 221 pro x LS @125g? MTP was even better than ‘old ‘ Titliest T200. I’m an occasional golfer, regular range rat and all felt really good, although neither had a MCC midsize with 3wraps. What do I do, thinking the mizuno 7 iron, a driving iron, keep my g10 PW-8 irons. Any thoughts, as fact finding and free custom fits are well..free 😂
Golf today is all about making the game easier, but why? Golf is supposed to be hard!
I play old blades because they look great, I like the history, they're dirt cheap and I enjoy the challenge.
How far does that divot go at 2:12 😅
Nope, not even close to dead. I’m now a 4HC down from a 12HC and I owe it to switching to blades and working my putting. Went Wilson Staff blades after hitting them at the PGASS. Bought a used set with shafts that weren’t right for me, but they were cheap. They forced me to work on my swing and I became a better ball striker. Now in Srixon Z Forged with my fitted Steelfiber i95 shaft. They make me happy and happiness leads to more practice and more practice leads to better golf. I’ll play blades until I’m dead, then I’ll still play blades wherever I end up…above or below😂.
What about consistency?? I moved back to blades because I was getting more jumpers and more spread in distances with game improvement irons. I know you mentioned it but a 10 yards spread vs a 3 yard spread is a pretty big difference.
The technology today you can find some not as springy but honestly blades are no different because they drop off in carry to
Start reviewing off the rack gapping for SETS of irons. That way we can also start mixing and matching like you do
Another great Video @markcrossfield ! Thank you! Question: Why would spin rates be more when you get on the course rather than off a matt in the simulator? Thanks 👍🏼
Just starting to get back into golf after a few year hiatus. Should I get back into playing a few rounds and take some lessons before getting fitted? Or, should I get fitted first. Basically, when is the proper time to get to get fitted for clubs?
Definitely practice a bit, play some rounds and take a few lessons. You want to go to a fitting with a swing that’s been consistent for a few months.
still rocking some MS3’s nothing feels like a well struck blade!
2 each they on but it only matters what score card says at end of day
I’d go with a more forgiving iron because your not going be 100% everyday
And the blade look is just nostalgia if hybrid and thick clubs was the look back in the day people would flock to that classy look
Go with what you really like and feel and what plays best for you and don’t let other determine what you like
You did the experiment a few years ago with the mp5's and experienced small drop offs on distance, saying that more people could play this type of iron for consistency. Do you agree with your conclusion on that video?
I honestly think golfers can play with what ever they want. To find measurable differences in actual scoring performance is so hard because humans are so messy.
I do think what people “feel” is good or bad for them is as big as the actual difference between clubs.
I use a combo set for many reasons, the main one is feel. 👍
Agree completely with the “shaping” stuff. The very last refuge of the blade iron marketing department.
lol, im currently using Mizuno T-Zoid Trues from the 90's
I think instead of rolling back the golf ball, tour pros should have to play mb's if they are going to do anything
I got my set of these today
Titleist cb 4/5 mb 6-pw. Wish i got the cb 3/4 with the mb 5...nothing worse then trying to take 10 yards off with the cut and puring it 20 yards long into the bushes.
I've been watching your channel enough, and clubs are so expensive I want a cast iron that the groves and lie angles will hold up so I can batter them and also have a little more fun playing.
For me the only thing blades will do "better" is being able to hit different launch angles without the added weight for high launch. But the fact most of us have terrible strike control is the bigger issue
Hey Mark! Love your content. I am a little confused however. A while back you analyzed larger sets of data around super game improvement irons and blades and the findings were that "forgiveness" was not what people thought it was, but you still reference game improvement offering "help".
Measurable help is nearly impossible to find.
Help in,
Launch
Spin
Feels ( personal to the player)
Are there. Defining help is where this gets messy.
Measurable, forgiveness to “feeling” more forgiving is very hard to find.
Hope this makes sense. 👍👍
Sure does! Thank you for the clarification.
@@lcmokoto no problem and thanks for the question. 👍👍
Don’t expect an answer BUT Serious question is there any evidence, study or otherwise that shows people score better with game improvement clubs?
Those kinda look like the old Mizuno Zoid Pro's... only so much can change in terms of looks on bladed style clubs.
2023 Z Star XV ball would be an interesting review
Does a high level of offset impact your ability to shape the ball? I'm not good enough to manipulate the face precisely, but it 'feels' as though having that leading edge so flush, there is more scope for small shifts in face angle.
A high level of offset makes it easier to draw and Harder to fade IMO… No offset or as little as possible makes the club neutral if you will. For some amateurs it looks intimidating but to someone who shapes it both ways it looks like heaven… I have had buddies fading offset clubs all day as well but most people with offset clubs are not known to shape the ball in either direction that is for sure…
If my paycheck depended on my golf performance I would get as much help as possible. But I get paid to fix aircraft engines, so I just use the clubs I like for golfing
High handicappers .. if I see a blade sitting behind the ball I feel I can get the club under the ball & get it in the air. big chunky irons it looks like there is no way humanly possible I can get the ball in the air. I'm bad w/ both irons so should I atleast play w/ what looks good
Here's some huge help for you, you're not supposed to get the club under the ball.
@Auriferous agree its just a visual thing .. I end up swinging both clubs differently based on what I see at address .. blade looks like a sknny man walking thru a door, chunky irons look an adult elephant trying to fit thru the same door .. chunky are much better on mishits no doubt
Twenty plus years ago,
"Blades are dead"
"Forged is out"
There will always be a market for those kinds of irons. Personally I appreciate the variety nowadays, just not the steep price tags.
I have the blade any day compared to big ugly club
I don't want to play blades, but I don't want to look down at game improvement clubs that look and sound like you're handling a crescent wrench. For me, the perfect irons are the thinnest possible top line with minimal offset, but as forgiving as possible otherwise.
I'm afraid i will always be a blade player there my comfortable the more precise a tool the better I can use them....to look down on a pure forged blade with thin topline and no offset is exactly what my eye needs to trigger my feel to play good golf....
Blade irons are not dead. Lots and lots of players are playing pw to4 iron in blades. Lots of pros and 5 handicapers
It's still shocking to me how much Mark's opinion on irons is completely different than 4-5 years ago. So many old videos debunking "forgiveness" and actually encouraging more people to play weaker lofted bladey type irons. I don't really understand the 180 to now always preferring the chunkiest GI stuff.
Getting paid
Blades are very much alive for those with the skill to play them. Isn’t a right or wrong answer though!
And we're back to the T Zoid True's
Blades are fun to practice with. After the range work I go back to my big shovels 😂
Maybe you can take your mining shovel and play golf, LOL
Didn’t you do the MP-5 project and found that modern blades didn’t hurt your game?
Faster doesn’t mean accurate…. I would love to know the accuracy rankings!
Why not use blades as you add loft, I agree that something different can help you hit it higher in clubs like your four and five iron, (depending on who you are possibly your six and seven) but once your in a seven, eight, nine.. I don’t think a game improvement iron is helping you, and if anything once you’ve added loft i think the bladed clubs aren’t any harder to hit high, and seem easier to create clean contact and turf interaction and thus create spin, and to hit a knock down or keep a ball low than a shovel is, and not any harder to hit high.. so I just think the difference in blades with loft vs less loft compared to chunky clubs isn’t as simple as blades offer less…. Because for me at least, I think they offer more in all but my three, four and maybe five iron…. And while I don’t find much if any benefit in a cavity vs bladed six iron, I definitely find more benefits in blades in my seven, eight and nine irons…
KZG z.o's forged blades for life
Have you ever tested workability?
Ie does the same face to path on a GI iron produce less side spin than a blade or MB?
I agree that’s it’s probably a myth!
I have this quite heavily used set of GI irons from Benross and I can confirm that even with those chunky boys shaping a shot is very possible
Jacked up faces & new balls had need to be brought back to conform with courses / My 1989 Muirfields give me the same performance
I parked my ego decades ago. I use a forged face in a cavity back ... best of both worlds and why would I make the game harder than it needs to be? 🙂
I doubt blades will ever be gone/dead. What do the top 200 players in the world play for irons?
Mizuno TP 11 Best blades Mizuno have made…..period!
The looks so good
Hard to understand why this club would be chosen over the 7 model. Hideki won with it … so he made the switch and cannot argue with the result he produced. Awesome. Still, makes no sense to me.
no we should not feel the same as pro players do. they can hit a pebble off a frying pan. we should play what we think gives us confidence. simple. a 2 inch butter knife or a clay wedge. doesnt matter.
🤣🤣 pebble off a frying pan 🤣🤣 classic
That's one of the problems I see with the tour players now and why they have the issues with distance...
There all switching to hybrids and helpful easy to hit clubs...
Wouldn't need to "roll the ball back"
If they all had rickie fowler sized blades from 1 iron down and a driver that didn't have a sweet spot the size of the entire face like we need...😄
When that vast majority of the best players in the world don't play blades, now have 7-woods, and are reaching for even chunkier long irons, you have to wonder why amateurs don't take notes and follow suit...
Mark I’ve enjoyed a lot of your content over the years but you seem really hellbent on disparaging the blades in this video, and it doesn’t make any sense considering the highly consistent numbers you’re getting from them. On top of that, you rave about the feel of them after almost every swing with the Z-Forged.
It’s hard to see how a professional like yourself could be dissatisfied with ( *checks notes* ) a THREE YARD DISPERSION!!! And you say it out loud in the video that your ZX4’s produce long misses in a way that the blades never do. We even see one at the end when your ZX4 sails over the 16th pin by nearly 20 yards and winds up deep on the 17th tee box.
I really don’t think you’ve given the blades a fair shake here. Plenty of golfers would benefit from using irons that give predictable results on reasonably good strikes. A bad swing is a bad swing with any club, but if the good swings with big game improvement models randomly produce mega-fliers that overshoot the target, what gives?
