@ India just spent a lot more money buying USA helicopters over some of these low-grade Russian gear. timesofislamabad.com/13-Jun-2018/us-approves-sale-of-apache-gunship-helicopters-to-india
@Juan Gomez. Hernandez India doesn't buy them, India BUILDS them for the US. Boeing has moved construction of AH-64 to India. Only engines and avionics for those are going to be produced in the US. Less jobs for US, more - for India, ha-ha.
Wow, great video and thanks for showing it. I build models and if I had the money, I'd like a tour of the factory to take a thousand or two photos of the military helicopters as they're being assembled. Getting back into modeling after 15 years, but going for zombie/apocalypse type dioramas. Via Google, found a bunch of zombie/apocalypse type paintings including one of a Mi-8 that's crashed into a swampy area some time back as several survivors walk by it.
you cant beat the mi-8 on price! wow though, recently upgraded to an autoclave paint booth? geeze they are a little behind the times. would love to see some more mi-38s!
Mi-17/Mi-8 helicopters are good but the flight handling quality of the helicopter must be improved. It's autopilot must be improved so that it can at least make turn coordination easily. Also the pilot seats, pedals and cyclic does not have ergonomy. Especially cyclic trim button is difficult to press and is not located ergonomically. The autopilot must be like new autopilot control systems and pilot can select the desired speed, heading and altitude without pressing the trim button. Instead of pitch limit system, a new autopilot can handle the pedal inputs so that during approach pilot doesnt need too much pedal input. Those are my opinions that can make this helicopter better and pilot friendly.
There's like 1000 variants and subvariants of the the Mi-8/17. Your complaint is pointless without knowing specific variant you fly, probably got this all fixed for different version.
I've read comments about the Kman helicopters being overbuilt, old design, etc. Gents the object of a helicopter is to get airborne lifting a specific load ( cargo ) . If the Russian Kman is as you can see here still building a design that has been Involved production for over 20 years or more if the helicopter does the job and is designed to be serviced easily, so what! The Russians have been in front of US helicopter design for years, yes we use a lot of computerized systems on the US helicopters but that doesn't necessarily make the US helicopter better. The Russian helicopter manufacturers are using the same American design philosophy from the 1930's specifically the DC-3 which is still flying today because it's a rugged design and still does the job today, so the Russians simply copied the design philosophy keep it simple, and build it rugged and easy to service. Something we have gotten away from.
