Rory playing rhythm guitar for a karaoke performance. So sad. Great fun show but what a waste of a magical player. A charming man, Rory, you are missed so much by so many. Thank you for the beers and the memories. Top man!
In the first seconds i thought on the slide that must be David Lindley. Then the guy started singing and i thought: Oh my god, that's Wolfgang Niedecken.
Wolfgang Niedecken - voc, Rory Gallagher - g, David Lindley - Slide Guitar, Eric Burdon - voc, Klaus "Major" Heuser - g, Schmal Boecker - Percussions, voc, Alexander Büchel - Keyboards, Gerry McAvoy - Bass, Brendan O'Neill - drums, Ian Wallace - drums, John Cooke - Piano, Ray Beavis - Saxophon, Harold Casey - Saxophon a.o. What a band, what a performance!
David Lindley’s guitar work kept that stage show from totally getting away from them. Lol. Loosey goosey but fun to watch. I hit the “play” button for Rory btw.
I read this kind of comments all the time on YT. Probably true for the common public, but not for me and a lot of musicians of his time. I believe Rory had several offers to join well known rock bands and there's the famous comment from Jimmy Hendricks about what is is to be the best guitarist in the world.
@@lillyk2315 Maybe it's just an urban legend, but Jimi Hendrix was once asked “How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world?” his alleged answer was “I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher.” Implying that Rory was the best.
First time I've heard this and I've listened to loads of the G man.....superb rendition....hes just the greatest guitar player ever. Rest in peace beautiful man xxxxx
Absolutely great video! Thank you! So great to see and hear Eric Burdon... The Animals were one of my favorite groups back in the. 60s. We Gotta Get Out of This Place was the MOST popular song in Vietnam while I was there. Every band in country played it at the EM Club at least once every night. There would be a riot if they didn't! Just recently discovered Rory Gallagher (thanks Ken Bruen for the tip & RUclips for the exposure). I'm 76 years old and I thought that I had heard all the greats... boy, was I wrong! This guy was phenomenal. Tremendous guitar player and singer. Just wished I knew of him earlier. I love discovering a new writer or a new rock group - especially from the 'old' days when music was music. I put Rory up there with the greatest... and by greatest I mean Jimi, Janis, Moby Grape, Jefferson Airplane, Blind Faith, Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Joe Cocker,Cream, the Kinks, and Jim Morrison. I also need to include the Animals in that group of GOLDEN AGE greats. Rory, you belong with these guys! I guess it's never to late to teach an old dog new tricks. RIP Rory...so happy I discovered your music before it is too late.✌
In contrary to many other electric guitar virtuosos Rory Gallagher was also a master at playing acoustic guitar and he was a great singer as well. The fact that he is not as famous as others is mainly because he refused to release his music on 45rpm singles. Check out this video where Rory plays acoustic guitar live at Montreux ; ruclips.net/video/xLr-p_rsxFU/видео.html
…”..so very talented.. “ And a talent matched only by his softly spoken brogue. Such characteristic quiet modesty belied his corollary searing guitar and energetic body language on stage. Truly Rory Gallagher was the people’s guitarist. We can but envy the saints and angels rocking out to his ultimate and eternal singing, playing and composing genius on the eternal and infinite stage. As the Almighty, the Son of God and Man and the Paraclete look on and listen to Saint Rory of Ballyshannon. And on the Saturday night, He stepped back and looked upon his creation - and saw that it was good . The apogee of his blues-rock path for mankind to the peaks and clouds of divine riffs, hooks, and vibrato of the most passionate Stratocaster
That was pretty freaking amazing. A lot of people have done this song. It is a great song this is one of the best renditions ever heard, yeah I’m 63 I’ve heard a lot
I really like this version as it reminds me of my younger days on stage. It taught me many lessons. (Being stoned and drunk on stage). Don't do that any more.
Typical Rory, bless him. The best player, writer, and performer on the stage by a long measure. Yet with all these over-blown egos, all he wants to do is stand at the side and play a few inaudible cords.
Listen to Brian May's interview about his early inspirations and guitar sound He got it from going to watch Rory and speaking to him backstage. Rory's sound was pretty simple and Brian got a Vox AC30 Amp too. Brian May still keeps much of that sound today.
Mays' sound is processed to the point of sounding almost like a synth. Rory might have used a boost at one point but, I'd have to look that up. Sound wise though, they don't compare.

What a session! It's the german Band BAP with Wolfgang Niedecken (12-String) and "the Major", Klaus Heuser, together with Rory Gallagher, David Lindley and Eric Burdon
Eric Burdon. Never was one like him before and never will be again. To bad the camera man didn't understand that the slide guitar wasn't playing all the solos.
Rory was too much of a gentleman to take over the performance, which he probably should have done here. Cheers, Rory! We love you.

He had other moments to shine during the concert, when the stage was a bit less crowded.
Prince did 😂
That’s right, this just seems like a friendly drunk fest.
Agreed

Aw, Rory's so shy! Best guitarist on the stage and he's hiding at the back. Bless him.
Actually David Lindley was also a great guitarist.
Perfect example of why he would never have been a fit for the Stones.

Beautiful guitar solos. Especially that standing up Flying V David Lindley is playing.
All -star cast, too.
Flying V?
David Lindley on slide. His image is the reason I listened to this in the first place. Great musician.
Very Greasy, the master of polyester and strings.
10 minutes after listening to this and I still have Eric Burdon ringing in my ears, and those saxaphones too!
Eric and Rory are beautiful.
Love it when Rory chimes in with vocals...they rise above all else in this freestyle jam!
A word for David Lindley anyone - working his magic on the slide...
El Rayo X!!!!!!!
Definitely! Rory must've loved jammin' with Lindley- David Lindley made Jackson Browne as famous as he is!
