I watched Sigur Rós put an audience into the throes of rapture at Coachella 2001, their first North American performance. None of us knew who they were, but when they’d finished, thousands of us were left stunned, speechless, weeping, at peace. I’ve never seen anything like it. These are not songs, they’re spells.
James Patrick Harris that sounds incredible 😭 I wish there was footage of this...
Art is magic
"These are not songs, they're spells". I think that sums up Sigur Ros perfectly. We saw them in Sydney in - I think - 2006. It was perhaps the mightiest concert experience of our lives, and we've seen plenty of seminal concerts over the years!, The "Heima" concert DVD is a wonderful memento of this special band (and the best ever travelogue any country could ever hope for!) We have literally just discovered this breathtaking film clip. It sums up the enigma, the landscape and the soundscape that Sigur Ros so perfectly capture. We thus have music and images that will see us through all our years to come.
I saw them in Victoria park a few years back and literally the crowd didn’t move for a few minutes after they’d finished. I turned around to see a 50 or so year old man just weeping
That is well put
I'm going to Iceland in June and this music video and band has been my inspiration for over 12 years!! can't believe I'm finally making my dreams come true :D
+Brittany Byars ohhhh i wish am there with u cuz this video make me cry every time i love u i love everyoneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

+Brittany Byars
HAPPY FOR YOU AS WELL AS JELOUS
If any of you you get a chance to see Sigur Ros live, please...please don't let it go past you. I guarantee it will be one of the best experiences you will get at any live event. They will literally blow you away, and I mean that. 3 months after seeing them and I can safely say it was easily one of the best nights of my life, truly mesmerizing.
Totally agree. People came out of the theater with tears of joy in their eyes. . .at times, it seemed we were unsure if our applause was enough, to thank them for what they were giving us.
God bless man
I agree! I had the opportunity to see them play at New Years in Reykjavík. The show was amazing but Glósóli stands out the most. During that crescendo finale, it felt like the sound waves were inside my entire body. It was incredible and beautiful. Now whenever I hear this song, I cry a little and sweat too for some reason :)
Had the pleasure of seeing them 4/5 years ago in an open air gig in Dublin.
It's was such a beautiful and perfect night in more ways than one.
Such an amazing band and such an amazing experience.
They played in Sydney at the Enmore Theatre in 2006. I took my partner and sister who hadn't heard them before. They stood dazed, speechless, and walked away elated. It was transformative for each of us. So easy to see why they were an inspiration to Radiohead. While other memories fade, the impact of that event is still crystal clear 14 years on.
This may be the greatest music video ever made. It makes me weep for my lost childhood. Lost... but not forgotten.
I LOVE Bjork, she's one of my favourite musicians of all time. Personally I don't love any of her actual videos as much as this one though.
I'm a teacher. I show it to high school students when discussing symbolism. Love the stark imagery and emotion in this!
Buffoon1980 Beautifully put.
Very, very well put.. I totally agree.
+Buffoon1980 michael jackson's childhood has the same essence
What a profound affect sound alone has on human beings.
A legendary song, brings tears to your eyes every time.
We cry because we all know this freedom yet we are so sold on the current "reality". We all know things are not as they should be. This video reminds us of our real past and, if you look, our future. There is a way to find this, but you have to be sincere, you have to disagree and trust your own reality. Look.
+David Evans we all yurn for this freedom!
David Evans How could you put exactly what I was feeling before accidentally watching this video and then this video confirmed that feeling and you wrote it... I can't believe it
David Evans beautifully put.
If you are not careful, Reality will sell you the promise of a million futures.
Well said!
lyrics in English
Glowing Sun (Bright Sun)
Now that you’re awake
Everything seems different
I look around
But there’s nothing at all
Put on my shoes,
I then find that
She is still in her pyjamas
Then found in a dream
I’m hung by (an) anticlimax
She is with the sun
And it’s out here
But where are you…
Go on a journey
And roam the streets
Can’t see the way out
And so use the stars
She sits for eternity
And then climbs out
She’s the glowing sun
So come out I awake from a nightmare
My heart is beating
Out of control…
I’ve become so used to this craziness
That it’s now compulsory
And here you are…
I’m feeling…
And here you are, Glowing sun…
And here you are, Glowing sun…
And here you are, Glowing sun…
And here you are…
+Jeddy TheHumanoid thank you so much! sob sob
Thank you verry much ! :)
thanks you for the lyric in English
Thank You!!!!!
Jeddy TheHumanoid thank you!
Sigur Ros is like... the dreams I had when I was just a kid and wasn't able to talk and relate those dreams... Awesome band...
... the dreams I still have being 65 and still not being able to express.. or share..
Awesome band indeed..
If anyone has the time to read, this is what the song means to me :)
When i heard this first (2015 Byron bay) was a time I was where I was very unsure of myself, my future and what my purpose was (like any insecure 19 year old lol). It was a time where I had just decided to quit university for the first time after 2 years of studying, I felt like I had hit a dead end and was anxious about what my purpose or goals were (felt I had been lying to myself) and quitting was a big decision as I wasnt sure whether dropping everything was a good idea.
Hearing this song for the first time left me with a sense of longing for something and that that something felt so close yet for a while I had felt it was out of reach. Upon more listens and reading the lyrics I realised that something was, was a longing for peace at heart about existing in such an uncertain world.
This song reminded me that feeling lost was okay and gave me comfort in that it was okay to be unsure of who I was. To me the glowing sun is "comfort" and that it is always never far away. It is something that we dream of but a lack of it is also a cause for our nightmares.
The song reminds me that comfort is like the light that touches everything we know around us from the glowing sun, sometimes we have to wake up from our dreams and find comfort in the warmth of the glowing sun or those (people and connections) that share the world around us.
Glosoli translates to a childish way of saying glowing sun and this is a reminder that even though i am getting older, these childish little fears will always be with me. Although sometimes we can feel overwhelmed and unsure of things in the present, sometimes it helps knowing that not knowing, is okay and we can find comfort in the 'glosoli' around us.
3 years on I have taken a year off to travel and now am in my second year of a new university course which I am much much happier with. Glosoli continues to be my anthem through tough times and is a continual reminder that sometimrs life is a journey through uncertainty but if its shared with those around us, we can find comfort in it.
What is your glosoli?
Thankyou for your music and talent Sigur Ros!
Beautifully said!
You don't need to understand the lyrics to know this song is beautiful!
I feel the same. Beautiful song.
music is a right-brained activity, language a left-brained activity. therefor, not knowing what is being said actually increases its artistic strength. it leaves you to fill in the blanks; your unconscious just loves doing that, you know
lmao
This song is beautiful? No, it's an awesome song :)
completely agree..
Come to the edge," he said.
"We can't, we're afraid!" they responded.
"Come to the edge," he said.
"We can't, We will fall!" they responded.
"Come to the edge," he said.
And so they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.” - Guillaume Apollinaire
Gambit The Exiled "Anyway I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around - nobody big, I mean - except me. And I'm standing one the ede of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over cliff - I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be a catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be. I know it's crazy." - The Catcher in the Rye

Is the effect that sensible people have towards the pure beauty
Austrian Black Metal band Harakiri for the Sky named themselves like that because of this video and the singer's suicidal tendencies
Iceland is beautiful...
Grown man inexplicably brought to tears.
I could live inside the world of Sigur Rós forever!
me too...
Brandon Marlo I never thought about that but I think it's why I cry when I listen to their music. Wow! I want to be there, in this music where I feel alive and free. Life hurts so much. Sigur Ros feels like home.
@@Anything4adollar ?
This song totally blew me away the first time I heard it. The build-up is sublime; the climax is bone-crushing and out-of-this-world: EPIC! ❤❤❤
Without a shadow of a doubt, the most beautiful music video ever made. I have yet to be able to sit through it once without sobbing like a child. It makes me feel things I cant quite put into words. It has something to do with a certain unspoken magic that only exists when your young. Somewhere along the way we lose it but things like this bring it all rushing back. It's heartbreaking and beautiful. Thank you, Sigur Ros and whoever directed that masterpiece. As Oscar Wilde would say- People have gone to heaven for far less.
my god.
if there was ever one song that i wish i could hear for the first time all over again, it would be this
I just heard it for the first time... I cried.
Count me in!
agreed.
That was an amazing video. One of the most clear depictions of childhood innocence I've seen in a long time. So refreshing to not see the idiocy that would delete the kissing as if children have no such curiosity or seeing it as sullying their innocence to have such desires, or delete the boys torching the car as if destruction cannot be innocent as well... and then at the end having them fly instead of fall is so brilliant. I hope I'm not reading too much into it, but it seemed very deep and diametrically opposed to the view most people have today of childhood being composed of nothing but ignorance, incompetence, and self-destructive motivations.
not sure if it is about childhood, or simply life
Seph Nico True, it could be that as well, but almost no one today can ever hope to escape childhood without losing their innocence. Innocence is literally the absence of shame, and parents and society are very quick to thrust shame into childrens minds as they grow. People don't lose their innocence when they lose their virginity, they lose it years earlier when their parents or culture makes them ashamed of wanting to.
i believe the fox mask is a symbol of a mask of attitude that this girl is hiding behind until she is ready to grow up and throw it away :) very cool video

I love this band. They can make me cry even though I have no idea what they're talking about.
Pure classic. I remembered watching this on MTV Chill Out Zone around 2006 early morning before work and I had to stay glued to the TV, because the track was so good, I didn't move, even though I knew I would be late for work. Love when it gets slowly loud, so brilliant. Very few songs nowadays have this effect on me anymore.
We lived in an amazing time for music
I just came back from ICELAND... had been waiting to go for 12 years. This was the song that started the fascination.
Dan Heather some day I will also go. And for the same reason. This song.
post some videos of your visit...Sheesh
it's the crescendo i tell ya,the crescendo. it gets me every time i listen to this song.i can feel myself gearing up for it and it never disappoints me no matter how many times i listen to it. one of the greatest pieces of music ever written
.plus it drives my wife and kids mental which is good
Me and my wife finally got a chance to see them live today in Melbourne. Sigur Ros live was meditative, spiritual & absolutely powerful. There were so many emotions and feelings I could sense in those 3 hours. Stunning beyond words.
The most beautiful video ever. Makes me cry that my mum is gone, but appreciate every day my 88 year old dad lives amongst us
All these comments are from years ago, well the song too is 12yrs old. And here i am discovering the band now. But it's never too late, and i just turned 18 so... i'm glad i can enjoy their music for the rest of my life
This is one of the greatest songs ever made
*and videos
not really...but i like it
This music is so innocently beautiful you can't help but keep listening.
Watched this a thousand times and it still makes me cry. And yes, Sigur Ros live was one of the most powerful things I've ever seen.
Glosoli is one of my favorite songs. Iceland is an amazing place on earth. It was my dream to visit that beautiful country and I was blessed to be there in winter. Now can’t wait to visit again in summer.
Some musics automatically make your eyes teary... no matter how many times you've heard it.... it's one of those masterpieces...
Listening to Sigur Ros makes my boring life feel so extraordinary..
vivalasoviet because it makes you feel alive
Your life isn’t boring, just your attitude to it.
I wanted this to be the first thing I watched in 2022. Such a beautiful song & a beautiful video. I used to play this for my students on the first day of school when I was still teaching. Here's to an amazing new year for all of us!
This band heals my soul. Incredibly beautiful
I remember laying in my bed with a girl I had a crush on in my first house ever, watching the dvd with this music video and a couple others they released on repeat all night... we laid there and admired the scenes and music all night.. it was her first time hearing sigur ros and it was such a perfect night. She was my valentine that year as well. Wish I could say more happened after that, but I moved away and we only remain friends online to this day. However, it was a perfect night that I hope to never forget. So many good times in my life have been accompanied by these wonderful musicians. Only tattoo I’ve ever gotten was their “Takk” album artwork and it has always meant so much to me, even 13 years later to this day. ❤️
Nice story, bro.
This video gives me chills every single time I watch it. The song is simply beautiful. Iceland sure does produce some dang good artists.
Not to mention it's a ridiculously beautiful place. They film all their videos there for a reason, lol. I wouldn't want to film music videos elsewhere either!
there's something so beautifully, unapologetically Western European about this video. As an Irishman there's something about it that awakens my genetic memory of my Celtic and Norse ancestors.
Its icelandic so that might explain it.
i'm 0% European but I felt a sense of nostalgia and longing for something I can't explain. this is music!
Also Irish. I know what you mean, us celts/Norse/north Western Europeans have funny chemistry. We're a weird bunch lol
I first heard this song on my friend's MySpace page back in 2006. I have fallen in love with Sigur Ros ever since. Thanks Chad.
The greatest gift is the sharing of fine music.
tom
What i really love about them is that they don't make only 2-3 minutes of a song. They make a story. They work with details. I love their music and their video. I can stay here forever.
this kind of music is rare, unlike pop... it actually makes you feel something.
strawberrygal because tremendous effort and feeling goes into it...
Pop music can make absolutely make you feel something, any music can. That's kinds of a narrow-minded statement.
@@jamebonez yeah, disgust for example
Hey, pop in most settings makes me feel the need to change music. It's the Freudian approach. Come up with something so weird that people want to disprove and change it.

For everyone wanting an English translation
Now you are waking up
Everything seems different
I look around
But I see nothing at all
Tie my shoes so
Is she still in her pajamas?
In a dream she was born
I'm startled
But the sun, is it her?
Where is she? In here?
But where are you?...
Go for a walk (I go for a walk)
And roam the streets
Can't see a thing (I can't see a thing)
And so I use the stars
She runs endlessly
And climbs out thus
She's the Glowing Sun
And comes out
I awake from a dream
To find my heart pounding, my hair tousled
Step out in front of the bed and see filthy shoes
And here you are, I'm feeling
And here you are, Glowing Sun
And here you are, Glowing Sun
And here you are, Glowing Sun
And here you are...
Thanks a lot !
Wow.
thanks! I knew there's something about this song that makes me attracted to it--it's a song about the sun! just beautiful!
Thank you!!
Thank you.
Das Lied und das Video kann man nicht in Worte fassen, es ist einfach zeitlos schön.
The build up is amazing. Feel empty as hell once the song ends.. 💔
The most beautiful video and song. Sigur Ros has aided and mended me through my battles with mental illness. They are a big part of who I am today. A gift from the heavens, if the heavens do exist. I listen to them during my long ketamine infusions now. The music keeps me grounded, while not distracting with lyrics I can comprehend. I am finally going to see them live in a couple months. I will sob the entire time, I am sure. They’re so much a part of my life.
one of the best song ever written ..i must have been listening to it 1000 times since 2005
This music video changed my life in college.
+Robert Lee White Wow awesome. How so, if you don't mind me asking of course? I feel there's so many different aspects of this video that can be explored
+Kingro619 I was going through a pretty dark / rough time when my friend showed me this music video. It was pretty much my first exposure to Sigur Ros as well. It just made me realize, in a sense, what life is all about again. That running up the mountain; the tension in the chord progression that resolves into a beauty each time, like how life is supposed to be. Not to get all weird, but also as a Christian, it resonated with me like that as well -- persevering through suffering, and that there really is ultimately a true Good in life worth fighting and living for.
Does that answer your question? :)
That's sick. I've a couple of songs that have had similar impact on me. Thanks for sharing dude
+Kingro619 Thanks for asking! What songs have done that for you? Any examples?
The power of music really is amazing!
ROBERT LEE, alright thats fine, but at 4:45 the beautiful blond drummer kid selfishly throws the drum in the path of the other kids - to get ahead? to remain dominant? maybe he should have been the one to fall off the cliff? ;)
exposing the not so spiritual profound kids aside this is a great music vid ;)
Transcendent! Seeing them perform live is on my bucket list!
Они ещё существуют?
Yes! I just booked a ticket to see them in Stockholm! I saw them once in 2013. Amazing performance. @@DENRICH
It's impossible to put the thoughts I'm having right now into a brief RUclips comment but this song and video helps me a lot with them. Thank you
Why does this song and video make me cry?

Because it's probably the best song of all time.
Одна из любимых моих композиций, как и в плане видеоряда, так и в плане музыки. Это шедевр! Однозначно.
Shivers. Shivers every time I listen to this song without fail, man. It's beyond gorgeous.
One of the most beautiful songs ever made
Beautiful! This just picks me up when I'm down. As a musician (Not goanna advertise on here as music ISN'T my main job/passion, that award goes to something else) Listening to Sigur ros was what helped me write tunes. For a while I did to much music, got de motivated hated it, now that i come back here, it has reignited my passion!! Thank you Sigur Ros, you are a life saver.. I love GLOSOLI!! XXX
This is my favourite music video/song of all time… it is so beautiful x
Сильная вещь! Каждый раз мурашки по коже.
2016 and this song is the best!!
It’s so heartwarming to find people who appreciate their music and we all get to enjoy and celebrate its existence together, contemplating how many things it makes us feel and astonished at how we had the pleasure of listening to it and the fact that it’s almost *alien* how gorgeous it is.
This extraordinary film clip is beyond beauty and enigma. It's one of the most beautiful music clips of all time. I am, and will be, forever moved.
One of the greatest videos ever.
Still beautiful in 2021!
The best song I've heard this year and one of my favourite songs of all time. Saying it's a masterpiece barely does it justice....
I'm watching this because I'm going to Iceland in a few days, and this video and song has made me even more pumped!
Still in Iceland?
Bat-Erdene Purevnyamjid Nah, I'm back home now :(
How did it go? It must have been one hell of a trip!
Wonderful, how is that place?

How come I missed such beautiful music for so many yrs :( Its simply amazing.

The very first time I heard this song, I was completely mesmerized by its unique sound. I love how it starts off slowly and a bit dark, but builds up in intensity until it eventually explodes towards the end. It's strange, but this very song made me want to go to Iceland. After all, any country that has the ability of letting you you create such songs, should be worth a visit, right? And so it happened that in March 2018 I finally visited Iceland for the very first time. It was completely what I had hoped for: stunning landscapes, friendly population and the amazing northern lights. Can't wait to go back!
My favorite song and video combo of all time... It literally still bring me to tears.
Sigur Rós is the kind of band whose music ALWAYS makes me feel something... Thank God I get to know them in this lifetime...
Probably one of the best music videos ever made. I am not usually one to even care for music videos, but their music videos are always so beautiful, both because of where they are filmed & what they are about or represent. There's only one music video this is second to, and that is their video "Viorar Vel Til Loftarasa" because it's so beautiful & sweet. It represents the sweetest love story & it has so much emotion, depth, & beauty. That video made my eyes water a bit, but that might be because I'm allergic to love stories.
This beautiful music video makes me cry so much. I used to live without fear. I used to have innocence. I used to have the simple faith of a child, and it was like I could 'fly'.
Some of the most powerful and beautiful music ever made and I'll stand by that for the rest of my life.
the two favourite artists of mine are both Icelandic, coincidence? Bjork, my favourite of all time, and isjaki is my favourite song of my favourite band, Sugor Ros. Just, wow. From London with love.
I was 6 years old when this came out. Nostalgic
I remember first listening to this song in grade 8. That was 11 years ago. I still come back because this song has become more than just a song. I can't explain, it's just a feeling.
This is the video and track I got acquainted with Sigur Ros. It blew my mind. I was sitting there in front of the TV and instantly got sucked into another world of music, freedom, phantasy, nature and a mixture of emotions and feelings! When the song came to the end, I just wanted it never to stop and keep on playing - I felt so good! Sigur Ros are not simply musicians. They are magicians that turn their music into something more - far beyond normal understanding.
I feel this entire song brings out the child within all of us. Breaks the barriers down between us. It shows its innocents and makes us kneel to what we knew as children
A beautiful song by a beautiful band.
How has so much time passed already since this masterpiece blessed us?
Proof that music is universal: I don't know a single world of Icelandic but I know all the lyrics of every single Sigur Ros song and this music moves me like nothing else.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Really captures the essence of childhood. The endless dreams, the possibilities.
Sigur Ros' music is better than any therapy
You can feel the Holy Spirit when listening to this piece
This is Pure Gospel
The entire album inspires childlike wonder... the album is like a time machine and it makes you feel like a little kid again looking at the world with innocent eyes. It's so hard for a songwriter to inspire such deep feelings in a person, I can't believe it sometimes.
I have never heard something more beautiful than Sigur Ros
heard this for the first time when i saw them live. when that last section hit, i had to restrain myself from bawling. i'd never been affected by music in that way before. so cathartic.
I really want to go to Iceland and listen to this song while admiring its nature.
Plain beautiful.Loved them for years
Beautiful music. I can listen to all of Sigur Ros songs to anything I do.
My dad showed me this, I have an awesome dad...
This has been my favorite music video since it came out - impressive.
I think that this is one of the greatest songs and short films ever made. Magic.
One among the best music videos about the innocence during childhood. I get goosebumps every time I hear the crescendo while watching this video. Kudos to Sigur Ros, and the production team!
Magnifique, l’Islandais chanter de cette manière est superbe! ça fait des années que je l'écoute et a chaque foi je suis toujours autant toucher, elle est magique.
This video and song moves me on all levels. Deep gratitude maestro’s, keep doing what your doing🙏💚
I just can't stop listening to this wonderful music over and over and CAN'T STOP!! I just love Sigur Ros SOOO MUCH! This music is exactly what my soul has been asking for!
I've listened to this song for two years and only now saw a video, it's beautiful as all art of this group
6 minutes, on the clock, a whole eternity in my eyes.
