I loove the contrast of vibrant and desaturated colors in the bird's neck 🥰 I'm still a beginner at gouache and you pretty much mentioned everything that I've been trying to work on 😅 some even like to paint a very washed down layer to block the colors, maybe this step will help you not reactivate the first layer is much.
