Just done a fence today old post concrete in every hole I needed a post, 3 roots the size of an elephant’s trunk running parallel through my holes, I’ve worked my legs off today grafted and no one will ever know or appreciate the pain of my work day today and I’ll die a poor man in 45 years. What an existence this is.
Awesome video. By far the best on here! I have started landscaping 1 year into it. and I can do fences now - all down to you guys. Can’t thank you enough!!!! highly recommend!
RUclips suggested me to Joe Everest in the states video on this video which is about a guy in Nottingham, all this so I know who to call for my fencing needs!
Got 17 6ft x 6ft panels with concrete posts and g/boards to put in and started looking for tips. These guys are professional, polite, knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks for the great video.
Thank you! After watching your videos and deciding to give it a go, I've installed my first fence. No castle tops too. I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't seen your excellent videos. Keep up the good work!
Im carpenter but one thing I've never really done is fencing. Been watching these guys for a while now top guys. Just ordered loads of stuff from there site just round the corner from me im bar lane these guys are percy street top quality materials great great prices best in notts from what I've found. Keep up the great works guys.
I've been self employed for over 20 years, and fencing is a big part of our work. Just come across yr channel and you fellas are great too watch very informative and anybody starting out ,watching yr videos won't go far wrong with yr straight forward easy to understand advice.
I would like to thank you so so much. I found your videos when storm Eunice destroyed our fence with wooden post and we have learned so much from you that me and my husband have just completed 22 panels with concrete post and it’s looking not too shabby. Thank you again and I love watching your videos. Have a amazing day.
Just not sure how the top of the fence is level on the slope? What if the garden was longer how would you achieve this? Or did he just cut the posts down
Really well made vid . You are a natural teacher and brilliant no bull presenter . One tiny little tip ….right at the end of the vid have a bucket of water and a scrubbing brush handy and get Stevie to wash all the postcrete off his spade double quick
I have zero interest in putting up a fence, but found this amazing. You have a very simple, easy to understand, informative delivery. Keep up the great content.
I'm so glad to see that you have put your concretepost in the ground with the flat end in the ground. (I have found that some people put their concrete posts in upside down? (with the flat end (usually with a raised bump) uppermost!). I believe the reason the pointed end should ALWAYS be the top is that this end is glazed to run rainwater off and prevent water ingress and shortening the life of the concrete post (water ingress eventually rots the internal iron rods which then causes the concrete post to burst). Could you strees this point in your next video please.
I'm watching this as a 33 year old single lady who needs a new fence due to problematic neighbours. Was quoted £1500+ to have it done for me so I'm trying to see if I can save money by buying all the materials myself and trying to install it myself! I doubt I can but you've given me the confidence to try!
@@tigerberrie5147 I can't speak for your own, but mine was a bit harder than it looked. I had really unlevel ground with holes and stuff in it so the hardest part was getting it all flat and level. I ended up going with panel fencing so it was much less work but did require another person to help. However I'm 5ft 1, 100lbs and 33 so I could just be weak! Also didn't go this route with the posts either, I found some post holders on Amazon that just need to be hammered into the ground instead of digging and using concrete, so it's ended up being a fence which can be easily removed if needed! It was worth it though and ended up only costing £160 in total instead! And now I don't have to deal with those neighbours either :)
Hi guys and girls happy new year to yas all I've not been able to watch for a while but I love how down to earth you's are always giving free advice and explaining how to do things a lot of channels don't do that because they might lose work but you guys seem as though you want people to thrive so THANK you ask much for all the free advice and tips you give , living a be watching every episode from now , and again thank you your proper professional :-) :-) :-) :-)
Hi Guys I never thought watching a couple of guys building fences would be so interesting I've just started to go through all your vlogs and they are more interesting then the shite on sky tv keep them coming
Good video, and well explained, am about to fit new panels and concrete posts, good tip with marking the hole digger with tape to get the depth. Thanks
Awesome video lads cheers, just checking it out to see if I've missed any tips or tricks. The only thing I will add is if anyone plans on doing a decent amount of fencing it is worth getting a Petrol Earth Auger for about ~£200, makes digging holes so easy and will save your back if the mud is tough. I personally got the BU-KO 52CC 2Stroke Petrol Earth Auger 3HP V-Type, comes with 3 drill bits and an extension, I'm doing 3ft holes perfectly fine with it. Sometimes have to use the thin drill bit first if the mud is like concrete but can follow-up with the bigger one after.
Joe Everest recommend your Channel. I’m a Farmer in North Carolina, I spent some time in England and Germany. I noticed that the fence posts were Concrete, so when I started building fences on my Farm I made Concrete Posts. Best decision on fencing I made.
Great video. Maybe create a hole in the concrete gravel board to allow your local friendly neighbourhood endangered hedgehog to move from garden to garden!
I was just watching this now what a brilliant teaching,if I can afford your company you would be doing mine I have 14 fence posts to put up. Thank you 😊
Next door to us is a council house, they got Liberty to install a new fence and it was sooo bad, looked like a castle wall and wasn't straight. This is bang on though!
As someone who has put quite a few of these fences up in my time I always found the fun starts when you have to do it on a windy day ! it's alright for the professionals doing it every day but if everyone else is like me it can be a struggle . Its not always possible to do it on a calm Summer day !
Great walk through Dave, Iv been watching you from 6months in so just catching up but, that answered a couple of question I didn’t really wanna ask as I thought they sound silly 🤦♂️ and now you have answered them 👍. On to the next video!!! 👍👍
I thought you were doing this without a string line as you didn't mention it. Then I watched again and saw you hit it with the scissors. Good job, lovely fence.
Top tip get a wood 4x4 the same height as you're concrete and drop it in the hole to check your height easier than heavy concrete in & out. Start at the top of a slope, then you don't have to worry about the next bay height. Dry mix & tamp it, works out cheaper than post mix
Just about to say about the tape then boom you say it 😂 Great video this has helped me so much, went from semi confident to positive I can do this now 👌 How do you price a job also?
Top video again guys! One of my pet hates- seeing 6 inch to 1ft of post showing above the panel! It’s just laziness- not digging the post the full depth. Can also be inexperience. We had to re install a fence last year where the posts were in 1ft 😂 how people sleep at night doing that- I don’t know!
Thanks so much for the very informative video, these tips are a massive help as I'm replacing the old fencing in me garden all by myself! If you don't mind me asking, is it necessary to lay some gravel to the bottom of the hole for drainage purposes? Great video again, gents!
We are glad they are going to help you buddy!! No I wouldn’t say it is essential to do that, but for peace of mind for the drainage of water I guess you could do that but we don’t! Thank you!!
Not for concrete posts but if you were laying in wooden ones then 3inch of gravel topped by a 3inch layer of dry concrete mix before putting post in would help against rot setting in from underneath. You'd still get rot at the top of the concrete mix sadly but there are products that can stop that too, Postsaver Pro-Sleeves are one of many.
Wish the cowboy fencing company that did my new build fence saw this video. They just put wooden posts into very wet soil and looks like they used a handful of concrete 2 foot down. Needless to say, rotten posts snapped after 14 months!
Most builders been doing that for decades but it is a good tip. Personally Mine are marked at 2 ,4 and 4 foot . I usually use gas auger and finish it up with post hole diggers to get more accurate depth.
Great video guys. I know I will have to cut one of my gravel board, would it be best to start with the cut gravel board from the house wall or start with a full board and cut at end? Cheers
Depends how fussy you want to be too. If you have a short garden and you wanna real top finish you put even cuts next to the house and at at the end of the run too.
What kind of material are those post and what kind of material is the gravel board? Looks like concrete. If they are concrete, do you buy those pre made or do you have a form for them?
Fair play lads. Great video. Short and to the point!. Like to mix me concrete old way though with ballast and cement. Every one to their own though. Again, great video!!❤
I need to do my whole fence in time but I’m looking to replace a section consisting of about 4 bays first, by my new patio. My question is I have at the moment all wooden Mortis panels but I want to replace these with concrete post with concrete gravel boards and slide in panels, but what do I do about the existing mortis panels on either side of the new bays?
Great video boys.......and quality work, well done. A question if I may; I see you place 2 gravel boards one on top of the other before installing the next post.......is there a maximum fence height you can use this method ? I am look at using 6 gravel boards ( 6 foot high fence) and don't really fancy lifting each board over the top of the post and then lowering into position. Any help/comments gratefully received.
Great video. I’m replacing my fence in the next few weeks, 13 fence panels and concrete posts. My garden goes uphill from my house, is it best to start at my house and go uphill or start from end of the garden and come downhill?

As an IT guy I built my own fence after watching this extremely helpful and straightforward video and it was a great result, thanks very much!
How confident and relaxed you are now from these videos is crazy.

Exactly lol
A fencepornphobe?

Often it is because key details have been omitted, and feel it’s a waste of time
I also found your channel via Joe’s. Love the concreat posts and kick panels. Good looking fence.
just saw this on Joe Everest's channel. just stopping by to show some love
Had a go at my own fence for the first time after watching this. Went in a treat, really happy with it. Thanks guys!
Our pleasure!
Love the video guys, keep up the good work, a nice wee video on building the fence on a pretty steep slope would be great also
After having some crazy quotes for 3 panels I'm confident to give it a go myself now. Great video simple and clear advice
This is a great help for us not so handy non-tradesmen IT types 😉 Thank you for taking the time to share this, so useful
Really well made vid . You are a natural teacher and brilliant no bull presenter . One tiny little tip ….right at the end of the vid have a bucket of water and a scrubbing brush handy and get Stevie to wash all the postcrete off his spade double quick
Told me everything I wanted to know, and no waffle. Great Thanks.
