Why does this unironically sound so good and its like nicely textured and layered too.

I'm not kidding, this actually sounds really good. The motor's vibrations create a very interesting set of overtones, much like that of a transistor piano!

When I was 5, this was the ice cream man's song + an older neighbor lady played this on her piano all the time (like it was the only song she knew, but she played it well). Fond memories, this song.

Qué bonito, esa era la pieza favorita de mi abuelo José Martínez (1938-2013) durante los años 80s, a él le encantaba Scott Joplin
Podrías hacerlo con Gladiolus Rag, The Easy Winners o Sugar Cane Rag?

Something about this video is just so cheery. The steppers almost seem happy to be playing this 120+ year song. Really puts a smile on my face and I'm not altogether sure why. Hope this one gets the views it deserves 🫡

because a pitch is a frequency, and the motor runs at that frequency to make that pitch.

    nice arrangement
in the old days (pdp-8) you could program a machine with short loops that would emit EM interference in an AM radio. So you could broadcast tunes ... computers are too fast for that now (was that a challenge?) watch akvSE5Z474c if you want to see

No idea how hard it'd be to implement, but it would look amazing if you managed to get every stepper to end up pointing in the same direction at the last note.

Sounds like some of the notes are playing flat, might want to calibrate your system to put a slight stretch on the frequencies like a temperament on an acoustic piano.

This is an unlikely instrument to play, imagine having a musician ask what instrument you play and you say you play stepper motors
