Good video. A little secret. There is an allen screw on the bottom. Insert allen wrench and turn it until it turns freely. This will dislodge whatever is lodged in the disposal. Also drop a 1cup baking soda and 1 cup vinegar about twice month and it will keep it clean and and fresh. Every now then drop half lemon with running water to smell lemon fresh.
You are why I love RUclips so much! I put videos out because I love making videos and if I can help someone in the process then even better!! And then people like you come along and give even more tips and tricks! I also appreciate how respectful your comment was! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!!
Thank you so much! I followed your video step for step to clean my garbage disposal. It hasn't worked in 3 days and this was my final effort before calling my landlord. Works perfectly now!!
Thank you. My wife dropped a finish nail in mine and it's lodged under the blade area. It spins but I can hear it rubbing. I was looking for a video to see if these could be disassembled and found this video. Amazingly, I have the same disposal. Now that I know I can take it apart, I will go do just that. Thank you.
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman, thankfully it was still working but I could hear the system rubbing on the nail. So I did not have to deal with same amount of 'yuck' as you. Once I removed it from under the sink, I could see down into the blade area and I was able to pry out he nail without having to split the case like you did. Surprisingly, it was a smooth operation and all is well. Thanks for your video insight.
That was awesome!!! My mother in law dropped a glass in her sink. I thought I was going to have to take it apart too but I was able to get it spinning again with a broom handle. Glass is crazy!!! It breaks like it's nothen but then it jams up a disposal like a rock.
Didn’t realize there’s little ridges on the side wall that the glass will jam into. That’s what happened. The second I took the housing off it fixed itself.
I just took one apart like this one. This one was locked up and I replaced it from my Mom's house. I put a shot of WD-40 on the nut and tapped it with a hammer and with the allen wrench in the bottom, where previously it wouldn't budge, it turned freely. This was hardwired so I connected a a cord and plugged it in and it worked good. My question and the reason for watching your video was to see if I needed to add any sealer when I put it back together, and I noticed that you didn't. Thanks
Thanks for the video. My wife dropped a glass spoon in ours and now its jammed up. I was told that this weekend i have to get it fixed or the dishes will keep piling up in the sink. 😂
Hahahah!!! There is an Alen Key at the very bottom center under the disposal. If you can turn that back and fourth sometimes yon can bust the item enough and it will break loose.
Thanks bud great video straight from the hip cut to the chase .. just happened to have the exact same disposal and same kitchen set up I'm gonna go head and say we probably have the same annual salary as well .. lol
Thx for the video. This is exactly what I needed. I figured, I am missing a part. Can you post a link where I can get the screwdriver attachment used at 3:51 in the video. Basically the black attachment to separate top and bottom parts of the garbage disposal. Thx.
Sorry I don’t have the exact side but it’s just a 1/4” drive screwdriver with a long socket. I can’t remember the exact size buts is smaller than 1/4” for sure! I wanna say 3/16”.
😝 😆 Very helpful. I dropped a thumb tack down mine and now it hums but doesn't spin. I put my hand down in there, but didn't find the thumb tack. Guess I will try to take it apart. Thanks!
Thank you for the video! I had some issues with my disposal and was able to get it fixed with this help! I did notice a small leak a few hours later coming from the screws that hold the unit together, maybe 3-4 drops a minute. I was wondering if you also had any kind of issue?
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman the screw’s themselves were pretty tight, I do worry it’s possibly a seal somewhere. My unit is very old, probably around 10-15 years old might need to just look into a replacement
Just about to start this job since the allen fitting didn't free it up. It looks to me that you could just unscrew the motor assembly and drop it without disconnecting the lines or removing the part that attached to the sink. Might be a little awkward getting it back on though.
Awesome video. Probably a silly question but the torque screw driver you used to get the little hexs out to remove the top from the bottom. What size head are you using and make?
Thanks so much! I can’t remember the specific size but it was a small tall socket with a screwdriver 1/4 adapter. It’s really nothing too crazy. Pretty easy to do!
If you’ve got it removed….Try to turn it upside down and spin the unit with an Allen wrench. It’s usually dead center on the very bottom. That might help clear out any jam and let the crap fall out. Hope that helps… if not… you may have to replace at that point.
Glass down the garbage disposer! Who the heck would do that???? Me also. Little glass bowl went down it in a flash. But I did not wait a week to fix it. Luckily when I got it outside the glass was already in tiny pieces and in the trap so we both got lucky. Was way easier to take out and clean up that I expected. Thanks.
What is the tool you used to unscrew the long screw things to actually open/split the two pieces apart?! I tried a 1/4in nut driver but it’s too big. The tops aren’t a normal shape
So, I went to harbor freight and bought e-torx socket for $10, I think size E7 fits most of the machines. Try it out. Socket was meant to be used with 1/4 inch ratchet. With the ratchet extensions, it became like a screw driver.
Heya Marcus! Sorry I don’t have the exact side but it’s just a 1/4” drive screwdriver with a long socket. I can’t remember the exact size buts is smaller than 1/4” for sure! I wanna say 3/16”.
Well the motor in my disposal is burned out. But if not for this video, I wouldn't have been motivated to remove the whole thing in the first place and smell... Burnt motor 😅
There may be a reset switch. I would take it apart and clean as I did. Also check the breaker or GFI as it may have tripped the breaker. Hope that helps!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman first I will replace it. Then I will try to repair the burnd one. I measured the resistance of the windings. And then find a super video from Pakistani people repairing such stuff which usually in Europa goes to trash. The only thing which is difficult to find is TIME to do that all
Thx so much. I used a 5mm socket with extension
Glad it helped! I pinned your comment! 🤗

Not all have the screw on the bottom underneath although this model probably has it. Great tips for cleaning!
The Allen technique didn't work too well for me. I'd free it up, but then it would get stuck again.
Gonna try opening it up... looks like fun.
@@SlimNubsterSame experience as you, which is why I'm here.
Yeah mine was worn down and stripped so I had to take it apart like shown here.
Thank you! This helped me unclog my garbage disposal. I tried everything else and this was the only thing that helped.
Awesome! Glad I could help out!

Thank you for this video. Especially how to completely open the garbage disposal bin. Was able to salvage it and squeeze more life from it.

when you put back the 2 plastic container do you need to apply any sealant?
No. It has a o-ring
I managed to get two bolts out. The top of the third is rusted, and I wasn't able to get a gripwith the nut driver. What do you suggest?

What is the tool you used to pull out those long 4 screws on the sides while taking it apart ? In the same boat! Thanks
It’s just an 1/4” drive socket screwdriver with a Long socket on it. Works perfect every time!
What too did you use to loosen the motor
From then actually sink?? I used a screwdriver to spin the bracket loose.
What do i do if the flywheel is still not spinning? Thank you for the video, I was able to disassemble easily

underneath the garbage disposal theirs a area when you can use a hex screw to spin the blade if it gets stuck as well.
Sometimes that just won’t cut it! In my case the glass was jammed
What is the tool to take the long screws out?!
Just a socket and a screwdriver

3/16
3:58 what tool is that? Im over here looking up "inverted hexagon screwdriver"
It’s just a Long Socket on a 1/4” Screwdriver style socket Handle. I can’t remember the exact size though.

Nasty for sure. 15 or more years on a new one is no big deal!
