Clear concise design and layout. Those who say it's complicated or had unnecessary stuff don't have a clue about racks. Nice job Brent! #GibralterRules
I wish I had a warehouse like that to run wild in!!! I have a large kit and have been watching several of your vids for ideas and inspiration. I do have a few Gibraltar accessories I utilize. But a rack is my next step. Thanks for all the food for thought.
For all the real working drummers we know how essential it is for a system to work and be consistent with set up . Not only does this work but also looks amazing, the first thing people see on stage is the drum set , presentation is always good.
Great video! Really good insight to what kind of work really goes into building a rack. Also, congratulations to Hannah for getting the gig with Prince! Totally sick, and well deserved!
I re-watched it, but didn't see a shot of the finished rack assembly with everything mounted and all drums placed. Looks cool though. I love Gibraltar hardware.
Hi brent, nice work, way to go!! I've seen many of your videos and they'r awesome. I was wondering whether you were using the SC-78UA tom holder or if it was a Gretsch one. Besides, I would like to know if there is a long post stand without the lock on the top. I would like to mount a tom but I don't like how the upper lock looks like. It's just a matter of aesthetics rather than functionality. In the meanwhile I'm using a regular stand without the boom arm. Thanks a lot and keep going! you're doing an excellent job!
Good and informative video as usual Brent. Let down by the drummer again. When will these people learn.... it's a team event....you make them look good..if 'she' had bothered to be there it could have gone even better for her. Thank you Brent fo being your usual humble self. A true artist and nice guy.
The best rack was and still is from Alex Van Halen 1991 F.U.C.K tour. It's just a basic wrapped around rack but there's no weird base at the bottom like this one. It was built by Greg Voelker...u guys should check I out!
Thanks for the tips, a great channel and well described references to the parts. The videos lets me know what your hardware can do! Great channel - beautiful drum-rack design! Cheers from Denmark
It doesn’t really matter where you cut the 16” from, one end, or split between both ends. Yes, the bar has a slight more of a bend in the center than towards each end, but it’s not going to make a large enough difference to do more work by cutting the bar in two places rather than one. When I cut a curved bar down, I never cut it at both ends, I only cut it at one.
Need some help with something..... Recently I had bought the GRS-850DBL Drum rack along with 2 SC-GPR46C but because the 2 SC-GPR46C are too long for the sides and was thinking of cutting them to fit my needs. If I want to cut the 2 pipes, say 16" off of each pipe. What would be the proper way of cutting? Cutting 8" off of both ends or cutting just from one end?
It's a great design. I'm not a drummer but it was informative and interesting to watch this. I became curious after I saw Hannah on tour with Prince. Have you ever done a rack for Sheila E. or any other drummers who were in Prince's bands?
I was a guitar tech.... but to be a drum tech is just insane. I just plugged this into that and put strings on. But this is just too much. And am seeing Prince Thurs. in Seattle ... April 18th ! 11:30PM show !!!
i have a Pearl icon, with 8 ish clamps. i originally bought it as the compact version ( front bar, and two 24" wings that shoot off the legs) then later on bought another bar and leg with a few more clamps. im in it about 900. always check on craigslist!
+OverPoweredDrumming I responded because I'm not clueless...If money's not an issue you could buy the Gsc 450,which costs around 500 euro of think..It's a complete Rack with front, left and right side but straight bars...Another complete Rack option would be the Double bass rack with curved bars coming in at around 400 euro... I don't know the exact number, I think it was 850DBL... Otherwise Gibraltar has numerous Dual stands for different mounting options, such as Snare/Tom... If you want a individual rack Gibraltar sells quite a few curved and straight rack bars, which you can build with their rackclamps... I hope you can find answers in my response...And next do research by yourself ;)
Thanks for the detailed explanation, however, I would have loved to see the final product/presentation. At that point, with the complete set up, I would have like to see a review of the setup, and a couple of takes from bird's eye view, 10 ft back and 30 ft back ( as a fan would see) overall, I give this a 7 outta 10 Flams
Hey Jeff, I hear you about the complete set-up. I'm assuming you mean with Hannah's drums? When we build the racks for our artists we never, or almost never, have their actual drums just the sizes. Then we just use whatever drums we have available as stand ins. Thanks for the suggestion on the 10ft, 30 ft.
Brent I wanna have a look at getting a spider rack but I don't know which one of the stores you recommended ships things to australia could you help me
Brent,Are there any You Tube posts regarding curved rack ideas (other than Hannah's?). I have a curved gibraltor rack with 2 side racks. In search of a different "curved look".
Brent, do you know the whole database from the Gibraltar warehouse by heart? I watched almost every video that's out there on yt and you're like "The SC-GTLMOP, the SC-SCMBLJC, the SC-ACAB, the SC-UMBAG" Haha. By the way: Great job my friend.
LOL this would be a nightmare for any drum tech! -- the designs are awesome but seems they have a learning curve to put it together even with markers in place; I am putting together a far more simple DW rack and I have expended hours and several trips and orders to get it the way I want it and would feel sorry if a drum tech would have to work with it.
The memory lock clamps are legit - so this is really a non-issue. I own plenty so I can vouch. Pretty much every clamp type has a spot built in to accept a memory lock, so you can essentially lock down every piece in the rack and it's not going anywhere. They are expensive as shit though (like everything Gibraltar sells honestly, so that's the only downside) but the gear is solid as hell. The initial setup is a pain in the ass and takes forever, but once you're done - you're done for good. So for someone else setup should be just as easy, if not easier, than setting up a drum set that has traditional stands, cause you basically just move it off the truck and set it on the floor. You could even paint the floor or use tape to designate where the feet should go, and a trained monkey could set it in the proper place. Of course as with most things in life, with this added convenience and durability comes increased expense $$$....I love the Gibraltar stuff though because it never really loses value and you can always start small and slowly add piece by piece as your rig grows, and they have a mounting solution for literally anything which is rad. Just my 0.02
@@fredthebasspro2256 well I appreciate the effort ya put in, it sounds like Gibraltar makes a decent rack. If I ever expand beyond my 3 piece kit (bass, snare, floor tom) with hats/cymbal stack on the left and ride/cymbal stack on the right I'll definitely check a rack out 😁👍
@@the6ig6adwolf no worries bud! it's an investment forsure, but it will last a lifetime no joke. I actually use them for keyboards and as straight up tables in my studio for drum machines and whatnot, although I used to play drums many years ago (and I definitely wish I had one of these back then hahahah!). The pearl racks were all the rage 10+ years ago when I was into drums, but they were also super super expensive and I drooled over the ads in the magazines for them. In hindsight though, that would have been a horrible mistake going with Pearl, because these Gibraltar racks are sooooo much more versatile. I mean, hell, it's straight up 1.5" pipe. You could technically go buy something that size at Home Depot and cut it build whatever you want, just amass a collection of clamps and feet and stuff and you're good to go. I have also re-used old Tama and Pearl stand parts because the clamps fit standard sized drum gear like that too which is pretty dope. I look at it as an investment though forsure, but I still think the stuff is slightly overpriced though.. 😒🙄😑 Also, TO GIBRALTAR: You guys need to offer larger price discounts / incentivize bundled packages. If you run the math, you typically only usually save like 0-10%(?) max, as opposed to buying each component individually. Really cost prohibitive, and since the system is expandable and proprietary (to an extent) you're gonna sell more stuff once you get a customer in the door...just sayin'.... --cheers
I remember when someone asked about what the point of calling it the no-leg hi-hat stand when it has legs still. LOL I laughed so hard because that person was a dumb. Legs are the things that support it. No-leg hi/hat/snare stands, have no tripod(legs). lol
Really like it,with one exception however;i personally would not like to have my hats stand attached to anything. It does not allow for micro adjustments of the base plate foreword or back or side to side, without the rigidity of the SC-EA100 grabber arm becoming a nuisance or worse-a liability to the players groove. Thanks for uploading.
this is all well and good when you have the cloat to have someone design a rack for you but it just seems utterly lacking in function. Might as well get stands if you're going to do this. And i'm sorr I hate to be hater, she's good but for Prince? Really?
You said make it easy for the tech to set up? LOL! Yeah right, I'm a drummer, this would be a total nightmare to have to fuck with every show! It looks cool, but it's a pain in the ass. No thanks,

Very nice looking rack, functional but not complicated !
Whew!! Good thing you were able to keep it simple!
can u do a video of Ray Luzier's drum rack???
Oh the things I'd do for Hannah Ford's rack...
Kidding. She's a killer drummer, nothing but respect.
I like the look of the tusks coming out of the rack.
God I would love to have your job! Designing drum racks for people is so cool!!!
I think it kicks ass.
I re-watched it, but didn't see a shot of the finished rack assembly with everything mounted and all drums placed. Looks cool though. I love Gibraltar hardware.

You are an exceptionally creative human being ...

Does the track stay together when moved to the next venue or does it have to be completely disassembled? looks like a lot of work to assemble this.
You show the no-leg snare stand and then when showing the no-leg hi-hat stand, the snare is on a standard stand ?

I still wonder what the cost of these racks are too the artists. And how that is handled.
most likely these are free because gibralter will get free advertisement when this is played on the tour. I could be wrong though.

Hi Kevin,
We have done a number of custom artist racks with curved bars. There is a playlist on our channel you can look through to see everything.
I like that no legs hi hat stand...must get that!

Holy shit. And I find myself complaining about setting up a regular 3 sided pearl rack..

Wants to build a rack that is easily set up by the back line tech and then goes crazy with curved bars that are impossible to level.
SMRT!

This looks like a really simple set-up for the technician that doesn't understand drum racks
soooo cool
Not a fan of racks but this was cool to watch
Hope it pays well!
Im surprised that prince didnt say he wanted the drum rack made from a purple camel....in Minnesota.....in February.....
nice
I set my toms of cymbal stands, screw a rack.
I feel sorry for the "one guy" responsible for setting up the ENTIRE backline for a Prince show!
pena que aqui no Brasil.. é tudo muito caro
man they make such complicated racks and unescesary things
***** yup
+Ferny Flores It's about the visual dude. Flash.
visual? prolly, but still very complicated. hope she has a drumtech
If you're the drummer for Prince, you probably have multiple drum techs.
Huh, no kidding: they gave Sloth's little brother a show?
I have bongos....what kind of rack can u build for my bongos.....can I get a hot drum chic like Hannah to play with my bongos
This dude should work for Terry Bozzio...
Guys. Ffs, attention the areas of "innovation" and overall shape of the rack is enough.
The rubbish bin as a floor tom is cool...
sup brent
if only they were affordable for the average person
looks like too much fuss.just give me 5 stands and a couple clamps ;)
I love Gibraltar racks but to get right rack with all the clamps you have spend a fortune :(
Pearl's Icon is simpler and much stronger, the accy's are less expensive and it lasts forever. This is nice cake dressing though.
I dont like drumracks, they look so bulky.. but it is very stable.. if u set it up properly ofc
Million Dollar Question: How Much $$$?
I bet around $2000 for the paying customer. I don't like these racks, they'd be in the ass to set up for the average gigging drummer.
rip prince
Your presentation makes it sound ...not so interesting ....or more complicated than it is ...
