The issue I’ve had with my older evolution saw is that the fences are bowed. I’ve had two and both are bowed by at least 1mm in the middle. I’d be interested to know how straight this fence is. If it’s straight, then I’m sold!
My first table saw arrived yesterday purchased on the back of this videos demonstration - can’t wait to put it to good use in a number of diy projects I have planned. Great job Mr Small Barn 👌
I'm actually mainly impressed with how seemingly ALL of the dust is coming out of the dust exhaust port rather than all over the work top and all in the carriage.
It has DeWalt written all over it's design. Really nice that Evolution went in the same direction. Honestly it is a user friendly and solid straight forward design. Glad you have a wonderful Evolution table saw.
This is the same or similar to the SKIL tablesaw currently only available in the US. Rutland also do a very similar saw which is what I purchased as couldn’t wait for Evolution or SKIL to release theirs!
A table saw is my next big purchase and doing a lot of research on them and looking at every video i can find. You have explained it great and no messing straight to the point.
Good unboxing/first impressions review. Like you, I've been using the Rage 5s for years. With a decent blade the cuts are clean and accurate. Alas, the sliding table on mine is terrible, with far too much play to be reliable for accurate cuts. I, too, purchased an expensive mitre guide only to discover the slots were too shallow to accept the unit. Oh well, it will fit the replacement. Personally, I'd pay extra for the soft start: it's like a gunshot every time. Although I thought I'd use it, I found the stand just took up too much space in my small workshop, so I ended up just binning it. I only paid £220 for the saw - an absolute bargain - so can't really grumble as it has served me well. If press, I'd have preferred a better throat plate, but that is easily remedied. By far the worst aspect of the saw has to be dust collection. It is like using my very old circular saw; zero dust collection, it just ends up everywhere. I'll be interested to see more on this new upgrade; particularly, the soft start models. Thanks for taking the time to share. 👍
Hi. This saw doesn't have soft start - apparently. Compared to the start of the R5 it is very soft. Evolution have put some great work in for this. I said a few time the R5 is too big for many small shops - which is one of the reasons I wheel it outside. The R255 is a much better size. Regards JP
Does the blade rock back and forth about 5 to 8 mm like on my rage when it was new and sent back to evolution and came back exactly the same , and they said that was normal
My Rage 5S has had many modifications over the years to make it work better and more safely, but that does look a significant improvement. I guess a few more reviews and the price will be the deciding factors.
Having not taken the plunge but keeping an eye on the market (because I want a table saw) all the reviews I've looked at point to one or more of the same 2 primary issues: 1 - fence locking out of sqaure , 2 - mitre slots not industry standard. These seem like pretty fundamental and easily avoidable ****-ups to me. Secondary issues are table flatness and dust extraction. I must say from the video it looks like the dust 'extraction' was reasonable even without suction. Evolution are obviously taking that point seriously as the larger saws are showing above and below extraction which is something I don't think I've ever seen on a portable. It's also lighter (despite being bigger-tabled) than the baby DeWalt. That sliding bed is a great touch a la Festool portable. Have Evolution actually managed to nail it on with this saw? I think it may have just gone straight to the top of my very short list. Thank you very much for the review in plain Yorshireman English.
The 1 think I didn't like about the rage5s was the blade bore and the blade guard went in the bin it was less than useless. Having to use bore reducers to put 3rd party blades on it was not the best thing. The rage blades are over priced but these days sextons in the U.K do blades with the 25.4 mm bore although living in France (Post Brexit) means I had to get them sent to family in the u.k and pick them up when visiting. I sold it after 5 yrs of use, I'm not sure if I'll need another table saw as I have retired from furniture making. This new model looks to be much better built I do like the look of it apart from 25.4 mm blade bore.
Nice review thank you. I envy you living in sw France, a move I'm hoping to make next year. Anyway I just found it on the evolution website, available on pre order for April 8th delivery BUT £400 for the R255TBL 😂. I think I'm going to stick with the Hikoki 36v table saw with a power pack transformer, Hikoki offers a 5yr warranty over Evolutions 3yr warranty and you can put any brand blade in it without voiding the warranty, unlike evolutions warranty conditions forcing you to buy their over priced blades. £50 for a wood blade, freud/diablo blades can be bought for less and tbh I have always been really happy with their performance and cut finish, but that is just my opinion, others will differ.

@@paulhodgson4790You can get a Dewalt table saw for under £500, I've read complaints about Evolution quality control when I was looking to replace my Ryobi saw, its very heavy, very good, but now ageing chop saw for the lighter Evo unit.
As a professional tradesman. I would never recommend anything from this brand. But cheap buy twice. Much better budget brands or second hand. Thanks David.
If I was a professional tradesman like you I would wholeheartedly agree, but as a hobbyist the picture is different. I very much like the Evolution range, and own many of their tools. I had one handheld circular saw burn out on me a few years back on day one, but they replaced it in store without question. Other than that it has been smooth sailing for me - YMMW. In terms of bang-for-buck I think these are compelling tools for the hobbyist. I _clearly_ would make different choices if this was my profession.
I argue as to whether woodworking is really a hobby if you sink this low. At some point it's best to bow out. These tools are a waste of money in my opinion. Unusable for professionals and only serve to provide headaches to those who don't know better. I've heard far too many horror stories and I can visibly see the cheapness in the tools through their website. Their skill saws had no skill put into them whatsoever. I can't beleive the owner of the company considers themselves an engineer. I have no engineering degree and can pick out failure points based off photographs on their site. This whole company needs to go back to school.
@@brandonhoffman4712 a couple of questions for you if you have a moment! First, what are the failure points you can see on the products right away? Is there any particular one that your experience can pull out on this saw? It would be really valuable to know. Apart from the cheapo plastic of course! I do have the older version of this saw and because it addresses all the problems with that saw it got me excited, but always useful to hear from the very experienced! Bear in mind I am interested from the point of a hobby with a v limited budget, rather than pro.
@lex500 I have heard horror stories of their track saw tracks not being uniform, that you can't even lay the track on your marks to get an accurate cut. I've heard horror stories about their motors crapping out on table saws, tracks saws, and skill saws. I can clearly see that the baseplate on their skill saws are trash and will easily bend as they have 0 lateral reinforcement. As far as this saw in this video goes. I haven't really seen it. It's not listed on their site yet, and after looking into the company as a whole, I'm not interested in watching any video on evolution power tools until they graduate beyond harbor freight quality and attract enough brand recognition off their quality to get me to circle back around for a 2nd opinion. For now it's worse than a rigid vacuum. Which has a motor that runs on plastic bushings as far as I'm aware... I used to kill 1 a year, now I have a festool vacuum. It's been with me for 5 years and is sucking like day 1. It's paid for itself and is now saving me money as well as cleaning my jobs better and keeping my lungs cleaner.
Nice review on a well updated piece of gear. As my 5-s is only a year old, that upgrade will be postponed for a few years. Hiya L&G. Take care and stay safe.
Thank you for this presentation, this new version has been eagerly awaited! One quick question: is dust managed better? On the R5, there's dust everywhere and I spend more time vacuuming than cutting wood 😄
nice pre review nicely detailed ,Coming from a rage 5s this looks like a good upgrade. . looking to build it into a trolley and wheel it out of my very small workshop to the garden would you be able to to run a tape from the front rail to the back rail for me. That would be much appreciated .
Great review, These saws are far too noisy for my home use, ideal for site work, why don't they use induction motors. I know the price will go up , but it would be worth it.
Hi Roy, Thanks you. I am afraid I don’t know much about motors, but someone will be an expert on here . In my experience all woodworking machinery is noisy. Regards JP
Very good and informative video. The Rutlands new saw is very similar to this, but doesn't have the sliding table. I think evolutions on a winner here.
Easily the best review of this saw I have seen, very pleased that you kept the crown guard on, this is certainly down to the fact that you are NOT a hobbyist and are very aware of the regulations in respect of using circular saws. I am sure the regs in France are very similar to the UK. It seems that what may have been referred to as a budget saw a few years ago Evolution are definitely moving in the right direction with this saw to match the likes of Bosch, Dewalt and Milwaukee etc. There does not seem to be a facility to slide the fence backwards or attach an auxiliary fence for when ripping solid timber as opposed sheet material, I guess it would not be too difficult to modify for this type of operation. The Makita 2704N does have this facility likewise has a rear extension pull out which is very important for cutting lengths, but as you say the more expensive in the range does have this. I really like the sliding table on these saws and think more manufactures should include this feature. I am sure the ‘mitre gauge’ is poor as most are, probably down to the fact that a chop saw is a better option for this process and the manufacturers are aware of this so put little effort into this.
The instructions does show working two ways, the second level with the top of blade. I’ve just not worked out how to use it yet - watch this space! In practice you shouldn’t really cut like that anyway as you should have the crown guard on all all times - but we know we don’t do that! Regards JP
@@Smallbarnworkshop Thanks, just saw your latest vid, I'm interested to see what Evolution comes back with. We know it happens and I'd much rather operate without the crown rather than having to remove the crown and the riving knife.
Cracking job JP. I've subscribed tonight and have enjoyed a number of your videos on the mitre gauge and the new Evolution Table Saw. I'm very tempted to upgrade... as for the mitre gauge, I've heard good things about the Hongdui. Maybe, I need to save up some pocket money 🫣
@@Smallbarnworkshop I'm a patient man, and look forward to your take on the gauge. The most important thing for me, is that it'll fit the new Evolution table saw. I really appreciate your super speedy response 😉

Sorry to say it sounds horrible I have I sheppach I've had it for twenty years it's a 12" blade saw with soft start and immediate stop 2 1/2 KW motor extension table miter fence run on bearings the cost though exceeds what that saw costs you.
Hi Joe. Consider that Evolution is, primarily, a blade manufacturer so they make the tools to fit their blades. They have extended their range of wood blades though. Regards JP
Always found their tool to be cheap and crappy. I wonder if evolution still insist on evolution blades only or else warranty claim rejection? The only one I actually liked is their sliding double bevel mitre saw. Not for woodwork though, we used it until it died with a stone cutting blade, great for cutting paving, block paving and brick when doing decorative work avoiding any wandering lines.
For the d I y er this saw is ideal. Only wish they brought it out sooner as the only cheap saw on the market with a sliding fence is the excel. Now selling mine and getting this.
personaly i wouldn't go near evolution tools, going back many years, i was on a job where we needed a chop saw and no-one had brought one so we sent someone to buy one quick and they bought an evolution chop saw well on the first day the knob that adjusts the angle of the cuts had snapped of and made it really annoying to use... admittedly we could have sent it back and asked for a refund etc but that had stuck in my mind ever since that it was just cheap weak plastic and i wouldn't buy one myself.... fair enough if they have got better and more advanced good for them but i won't touch the name personally... i have a akita chop saw of my own as its a 18v and runs one my battery platform and i have a dewalt site table saw which iv had many years its used everyday and gets moved in and out of a trailer being driven around over potholed roads etc and never missed a beat.....
Evolution saws are ok if you throw away their shitty blades and install a decent quality blade but that just adds to the expense so prob better to buy a decent brand jn the first place
The 2 RBL (non X versions).... Was it really necessary to reduce the mains cable length by a metre to 2 meters in total... Thats how to lose new customers in a competitive market... Pathetic!
@Smallbarnworkshop I have an SCA combination machine. However many years ago I bought an evolution mitre saw that was incapable of cutting a true 90, badly made and looser than Katie prices morals. The cheap Chinese table saws are terrible and dangerous as the fence won't remain true and will move during a cut, causing binding/pinching mid cut. It's your body you are risking so crack on. Mybadvise take it back for a refund but you do you!
@riley165 Katie Prices morals 😂 I do like a combo machine. My dad had a Startrite he bought 40 odd years ago. My Evolution was gifted so I definitely won’t be taking it back. Regards JP
I've given evolution every possible chance I could give them.....but they consistently disappoint to the point where I now consider them complete rubbish. I had circular saws, a table saw , mitre saws , a multi tool , a zaw zaw and the final nail in the coffin was an utterly ridiculous and useless extendable pole drywall sander. Every single item seemed cheaply manafactured and badly engineered. The motors are constantly sparking and arcing, and they are not in the least bit user friendly. Cheap , tacky plastic is used. The drywall sander neatly got smashed into bits....it was that annoying to use. Got rid of them all and bough better brands ( except for the sander....but a round pad on an extendable pole was still 100 times better).
I agree. I got the Track Saw a few months ago and the 2 sections don't line up straight when butted up to each other so the cut is way off being straight. I need to set a few mm gap on one side and use another straight edge for it to work effectively and cut straight.
@@Eric-DS9 I agree i bought the track saw and the track was cut so roughly that it cut my finger and needed lots of fling and smoothing to make it reasonable. Horrible manufacturing quality
Same, this guy is on the Evolution Pay book otherwise doesn't take pride in his work. These tools don't last, they also have shitty tolerances, sent back a mitre saw that got repaired 3 times on Warranty, after collaboration and some work it would go out of whack and require a repair Had my DeWalt mitre saw since and not even calibrated it once in 2 years and still cutting straight
The issue I’ve had with my older evolution saw is that the fences are bowed. I’ve had two and both are bowed by at least 1mm in the middle. I’d be interested to know how straight this fence is. If it’s straight, then I’m sold!
Never had a problem with my Rage and this one is straight . Regards JP

Yeah. Evolution is not selling the new R255 Table saw in the states yet. Bummer 😔. But no worries, I have joy of Jesus Christ 😁🙌🤙. Happy Easter and God bless you, in Jesus name.
Happy Easter my friend. Thank you. Regards JP
Great stuff as usual thanks . I have just ordered a few bits from Benchdogs and The spring clip upgrade off MK3 for our old rail squares Easter sale
Good stuff. I love my Benchdog tools. Regards JP
Just like my Skil tablesaw, I bet parts are interchangeable.
Hello put a Decibel metre on the saw ?.let us see it when you start the Saw
Is the arbor on it accepting of any dado cutting?
Hi. I noticed it looks quite long but as I only got it 48 hours ago, I haven't delved that far. The instruction do not reference it though, so I guess it's proceed at your peril Regards JP
Nice upgrade on the Rage 5. Just looked, £460. Good price
Yes. Thier link went live overnight, definitely great value . Regards JP
Whaaaaaaaat, I’ll go DeWalt for that price 👀
@cerealkiller4248 why?
@cerealkiller4248 the Dewalt is much more though
@@paulhodgson4790You can get a Dewalt table saw for under £500, I've read complaints about Evolution quality control when I was looking to replace my Ryobi saw, its very heavy, very good, but now ageing chop saw for the lighter Evo unit.
I hope they bring out an Australian version with a 5/8 in arbor!
I only realised 5/8” were a thing yesterday! Regards JP
Can only cut 3mm steal while the rage s5 can handle up to 6mm.
@@brandonhoffman4712 really good points for consideration. Thank you!
Nice review on a well updated piece of gear. As my 5-s is only a year old, that upgrade will be postponed for a few years. Hiya L&G. Take care and stay safe.
Hi Doug, hope you are well. The R5s is still a great bit of kit though. Regards JP
@@Smallbarnworkshop Making very slow progress on the vanity project as March weather in Scotland is ... dodgy to say the least.
Thank you for this presentation, this new version has been eagerly awaited! One quick question: is dust managed better? On the R5, there's dust everywhere and I spend more time vacuuming than cutting wood 😄
Hi. Potential much better. I’ve not hooked my backs up yet. Future video! Regards JP
Will it take a dado blade ?
Hi. See the video I’ve just released today. It may answer your question. Regards JP
Does it take a dado set 🎉🎉
It’s not designed to. Regards JP
nice pre review nicely detailed ,Coming from a rage 5s this looks like a good upgrade. . looking to build it into a trolley and wheel it out of my very small workshop to the garden would you be able to to run a tape from the front rail to the back rail for me. That would be much appreciated .
Yes. I will pop out and measure for you soon. Regards JP
Dims from outside of foot side to side is 674mn front to back 505mm. Hope this helps . Regards JP
That's very helpful thank you
Great review, These saws are far too noisy for my home use, ideal for site work, why don't they use induction motors. I know the price will go up , but it would be worth it.
Hi Roy, Thanks you. I am afraid I don’t know much about motors, but someone will be an expert on here . In my experience all woodworking machinery is noisy. Regards JP
Shiny new fings ! .... Sheffield born n bred here too ... 💪 My Dewalt came with a finger tight blade nut fyi
Technically, I'm a Bradfordian but lived longer in SY Regards JP
Com esse sistema no Brasil só tem a Dewalt. É o melhor sistema que conheço, e essa quero levar uma para o Brasil, gosto da mesma deslizante !
Very good and informative video. The Rutlands new saw is very similar to this, but doesn't have the sliding table. I think evolutions on a winner here.
great review but is it as noisy as the old one.
Hi. Thanks. I would say not but I will measure regards JP
10:50 I was told that ripping such a thin piece of wood between blade and fence is a good recipe for kick back.
There are a few things you can do to reduce risk and proper guarding is one of them. Regards JP
Thank you Gary. Regards JP
The riving knife being way higher than the blade limits its use.
Thank you for the highly informative review.
Glad it was helpful! Regards JP
Great review! Do you know if the saw's Arbor is capable of accepting Dado stack blades? regards, Phil
Hi Phil. I’ve answered your question in a video I posted about 4 hours ago. Regards JP

From first looks it looks and your overview an excellent piece of kit. If I could pass on my Metabo I reckon I would go for one of these in a heartbeat, no question… 👏🏻✅ 🤔
Looking forward to seeing more in depth stuff from you on this one in due course, especially if you give us a building in jobby… 🤪
Hi. Thank you. There will definitely be more from this saw and I am already planing a build in jobby 😁 regards JP
The Rutlands R1618 is almost identical
2000watt motor, and in tests ,seems quieter the Evolution saw.
Does it need a transformer
No straight from mains for 240 v. The 110 v version would. Regards JP

Sorry to say it sounds horrible I have I sheppach I've had it for twenty years it's a 12" blade saw with soft start and immediate stop 2 1/2 KW motor extension table miter fence run on bearings the cost though exceeds what that saw costs you.

In a world where where’s dewalt and Bosch and Milwaukee and metabo and saw stop and many others, what would posses someone to get an evolution. 🤷🏻♂️
Great Review JP, I look forward to seeing more videos on the R255 TBL.

25.4mm bore - boo!
Hi Joe. Consider that Evolution is, primarily, a blade manufacturer so they make the tools to fit their blades. They have extended their range of wood blades though. Regards JP
Thank you for your straightforward, no-nonesense review iff this Evolution saw. Nice one matey.
No problem 👍 Regards JP
Great kit
Looks great 😊
It’s very god. Regards JP
Cool. Now you can cut fingers off in the great outdoors.
Now selling mine and getting this.
basically a dewalt copy
looks like Hikoki model...
Looks just like a Dewalt saw
Oh. Thats a shame! and annoying. Regards JP
personaly i wouldn't go near evolution tools, going back many years, i was on a job where we needed a chop saw and no-one had brought one so we sent someone to buy one quick and they bought an evolution chop saw well on the first day the knob that adjusts the angle of the cuts had snapped of and made it really annoying to use... admittedly we could have sent it back and asked for a refund etc but that had stuck in my mind ever since that it was just cheap weak plastic and i wouldn't buy one myself.... fair enough if they have got better and more advanced good for them but i won't touch the name personally... i have a akita chop saw of my own as its a 18v and runs one my battery platform and i have a dewalt site table saw which iv had many years its used everyday and gets moved in and out of a trailer being driven around over potholed roads etc and never missed a beat.....
Evolution saws are ok if you throw away their shitty blades and install a decent quality blade but that just adds to the expense so prob better to buy a decent brand jn the first place
The factor blade was pretty poor on my DeWalt though. Regards JP
The 2 RBL (non X versions)....
Was it really necessary to reduce the mains cable length by a metre to 2 meters in total...
Thats how to lose new customers in a competitive market... Pathetic!
20:50 typical noob mistake..
@@seniorvan9906 only been doing it 40 year, i will get the hang of it eventually 😂
Dewalt ripoff
If so, DeWalt must have dropped the ball big time over trademarks etc ? Regards JP
Save your money! Can't believe this chinese shite still has a customer base!!
What saw you got Riley? Regards JP
Regards JP
What a piece of crap, just by a Dewalt.
Where’s the DeWalt? Regards JP
@@Smallbarnworkshop I'm saying you should buy a Dewalt instead of that pos.
Wtf is this company... I just went to their site. The 1st two tools I saw were clearly trash based on the picture I saw.
Of course they’re cheap tools. They have to cover the cost of sending loads of free units to RUclipsrs 😂
Same, this guy is on the Evolution Pay book otherwise doesn't take pride in his work.
These tools don't last, they also have shitty tolerances, sent back a mitre saw that got repaired 3 times on Warranty, after collaboration and some work it would go out of whack and require a repair
Had my DeWalt mitre saw since and not even calibrated it once in 2 years and still cutting straight
what a boring fellow.
