I love this....a big thank you for all those who are participating, especially the gentleman determined to learn so that he play to honor those service men and women we've lost and the young children who have been taught what the real meaning of memorial day is all about
Mr Major and Mr Steve each said the country is divided...its divided due to reporters like them who bring it up unnecessarily even during an American tribute
It's not too hard and if doing it the usual way on a trumpet is too hard (the high notes can be tricky) you can press down the 1st and 3rd valves and it'll play lower and will be easier to do and still sound good.
As a veteran, I feel compelled to tell the TRUE true tradition of TAPS... It was a DAWN SIGNAL for the troops to report to their tents, to go to sleep; the transition to daytime playing was for daytime funerals, for surviving relatives, who'd wanted to show respect, then leave quickly to return home. I respect the gesture; but as my mom said, "If you're going to do something, make sure you do it RIGHT." Thank you for showing respect for Memorial Day.
Great idea! I wonder how many of these folks know that Taps was written by a Confederate soldier. A northern boy studying music in Louisiana when the war broke out, he enlisted in Confederate army. His father was serving in the US army. At the end of a day's fighting he heard the moans of wounded men and crawled out in the darkness to help. He pulled one injured man back to his lines to discover that not only was it a Confederate soldier, but that it was his own son. Sadly he had died by the time they had gotten back. A scrap of paper in the young man's shirt had a few notes of music written on it and the sad, mournful time was played at his funeral. We know it today as Taps. I wonder if it will be the Confederate item to be discarded and swept under the rug.
I going to have to get a trumpet (or French Horn) so I can join in next year. I played Taps at the end of each school day at John's Hill Junior High School in Decatur, Illinois in the late 1950's.
The song i dont like but i know what its for. As i stood as it played at 6yrs old as shots fired and my mother was handled the ever so slowly and perfectly the American flag with the white gloves as my father r rest in Washelli Cemetary along the rolling hills if white marble. U S N. The fatherless daughter navy brat!

How does this word with the USA in different time zones? Taps is played at 5pm every day on Military bases.
Retreat is played at that time. Taps is played at night.

Just here to remind everyone about the January 6th insurrection. Have a blessed day.
The afternoon the boomers took over before dinner at Dennys
Worst insurrection ever. The blm/antifa riots were much more destructive and deadly
Get with your DNC CNN MSLSD people’s updated narrative...it’s no longer referred to as an insurrection
Useless.

Cringe
You know somebody's going to tap dance right
Jingoism
Why is the old buzzard in Bama making a mockery of it ? Too old to learn them notes.
Nice story.
I hate that song.
