    Note that for anyone wondering about the full sound of the chorus effect, the JC line achieves its legendary chorus tone by keeping one speaker full dry signal, and the other speaker full wet vibrato. Together it sounds SUPER wide and lush. Only the right speaker is being recorded here, so you're getting like 95% dry signal with a little bleed over from the left speaker. Also, I previously owned a JC-40 as a home player and it was overkill -- way too loud, way too hard to keep at apartment-safe levels. (The JC-40 hits like 109db at just 3/10 on the volume knob, and is mute up to a little over 1/10.) I sold it and get a JC-22 instead and feels *way* more appropriate. The volume levels are much easier to manage, still sounds great, and only misses out on the 40's Distortion knob which I'm OK with -- a standalone DS-1 is better if you need it cuz then you get tone control. The 22 otherwise is every bit the same build quality as the 40, just smaller.

    I just bought one of these in January. It sits right next to my 65 Princeton Reverb. I switch between them. The JC22 is great for switching on and turning off again 10 minutes later. I feel like that isn’t good on the tubes. It sounds lush, round and full, and the chorus is a thing of beauty. Pro tip: when you don’t feel like chorus set the speed and depth knobs to 8 o’clock. You get the magic of the amp without really using chorus. This amp is perfect for home. It gives you a great sound, but it doesn’t bother the whole house. I am so glad I picked up a JC22.

      You’re bang on David, picked one up for an absolute steal late last year, I’d really wanted to nail the Andy Summers sound for a long time, had the telecaster and all the right pedals, but this is the cherry on top, to make matters even better, it’s capable of so much more besides, this thing can even do grunge with the right distortion in front (and I find on that front the trashier the distortion the better) great great little amp that it will be hard to ever part with - that said it is also built so solidly it will probably outlive me!

    The Jazz Chorus is the amp that officially cemented my love for solid state guitar amplifiers. I remember when i first went out of my way to listen to comparisons between these and a lot of Fender tube amps that a lot of people seem to love. In my experience, i usually dislike clean tones coming from tube amps because there always seemed to be just a little bit of distortion coming from the amp whenever i played one, and it didn't feel anywhere near as good to my ears compared to the my Solid State Randall RG80 combo which could distort very easily when you push the gain on the clean channel, but also could retain that clean clarity if you set the gain knob right.
    My favorite thing about these amps is that they don't distort unless you really want them to distort. Beautiful, crystal clean tone without any of the hair that you get from tubes.

    • @dingalarm
      @dingalarm Год назад +3

      Well said! Thank you! 👏👏 This is *exactly* what tube amps don't seem to offer.
      I'll add that too many guitarists don't seem to appreciate the beauty of crystal clean tones, and they always feel compelled to add some dirt to their sound.

      @Gumbo Stevens The early Roland Jazz Chorus amplifiers were built in Japan and were very high quality. There is always the option of buying a used/vintage Jazz Chorus amplifier as I believe the prices are very reasonable. You would still need a used example checked over by a good amp tech.

    Just bought this amp and it would have to be the one that instantly liked a lot out of the box! so warm and sparkle sounding, plenty of volume! and you can do line out if you were in a situation where you need to be louder! there is a hiss but its a smooth sounding hiss! but it never changes volume! if you have it on 1 or 10! stays the same! but once to start playing, you don't notice it! the chorus is just as good as the best!! very warm! very Boss CE-1 like! the reverb is the bit that took me by surprise! I usually don't like reverb that much but this one is just right! not too much or too little! in whatever way its set overall! very pleasant and very useable! Stereo Boss pedals sound very good through this amp as well!! and on a 2023 update: The JC-22 loves the Boss DM-101

    It would work well on smaller stages and in a small venue.

    I have a 2020 JC-40 and an 80's JC-55 and they sound AMAZING!!!!!!!! They take pedals extremely well!!! The Kink of Clean is not an exaggeration. I have been a Tube/Valve snob for a long time. My best friend's Pop gave me the 2 JC amps and after screwing around with them one day, I fell in love with the JC. The clean tone is so transparent, the reverb is so pristine and the chorus (which I usually do not like a chorus effect on any amp or pedal) I actually love on this amp. My Zendrive, NUX Plexi and my Tom'sline Dumble and Plexion sound amazing through the JC!!! And if you want to kick the tone into a 4th dimension.............................run a BBE Sonic Stomp at the end of your signal chain and you will freak on how ridiculous the tone is on this amp!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Do you recomend it If i want to have that clean sound, but sometimes use it with my tube screamer for some blues? Or it wouldn’t be so crunchy for that distorsion?

    Would like you to use it with a princeton on high gain and with a b switch to roland for clean tones

    For a solid state amp with computer options - the Boss Nextone Special. For a plug and play Solid State amp - the Roland Blues Cube Artist.

    But how does it take pedals? The Boss MT-2 is my favorite go-to boost pedal.

      Theres a paul gilbert PG14 pedal from JHS thats about a 40 minutes video (uploaded by sweetwater) and towards the end he throws it on a jazz chorus and shreds some stuff on it. Sounds killer
