One of my favorite things when talking about the X-Men is when people go "Why'd you have to get political?" And it's like, "You do know we're talking about the X-Men, right?"
Bobby has been shown to stop reactions that require a heat exchange. He's turned off the blackbird's engines with a thought. He effectively turned off Sunspot's fire powers temporarily by the same process, which must have been pretty terrifying.
And also this one time the Xmen went to hell to rescue Nightcrawler's soul (or something like that).
And guess what?
Bobby _made_ hell freeze over.
Hell.
Frozen over.
He passed out afterwards, but he _did it_
The thing is, heat exchange is just energy. Iceman can do more than just stop a wildfire with a thought, but effectively act as an EMP by freezing electric flow in wires. What we perceive as fire is actually the rapid release and exchange of electrons during the chemical reactions within the "burning" itself. All that energy being moved around causes some of it to be released in the form of what we perceive as "fire".
You know what I like about Mr. Freeze? He *has* a Ph.D., but unlike other supervillains, he isn't all pretentious about it. He's humble enough not to brag about it and insist that everyone call him "*Doctor* Freeze. :)
If it’s worth anything the original X-Men Animated Series has a moment with electricity and magnetism with Storm and Magneto. Storm tries to electrocute Magneto with a lightning bolt and he points out that Magnetism and electricity are related as he is unharmed by it. That always stuck with me as a kid. It was amplified with Ian McKellen making a comment towards Cyclops when he asks Storm to fry Magneto in the Statue of Liberty and Magneto responds something to the effect of “Ah yes, a bolt of lightning into an enormous copper conductor… I thought you people lived in a school.” Lol. What a legend.
Without staying completely up to date on everything in comics, I feel like your proposal for how to abuse Cyclops' powers was DEFINITELY something that Mr. Sinister toyed with off-screen.
The punch dimension?
@@Spiral-Mark No, I swear there was an offhand mention to a jar of cloned Scott eyes he kept on hand to use as grenades.
in a recent comic someone suggested mounting Cyclops' head onto a tank turret
@@ccggenius Jesus christ...
@@Spiral-Mark Yeah, pretty sure that's the reaction Sinister was going for.
Bobby headbutting pyro was just him going "alright enough holding back. Time to clean up and regroup" like yeah. That's the iceman I know and love
At the end of the day all super heroes are Green lanterns. Limited purely by their imagination and will
I just love that Gambit is just a reverse Iceman, Gambit maximizes the kinetic potential of items till they explode and iceman just removes all of that potential
The funniest thing I ever learned about Iceman, was that he used to only cover himself in snow, but somehow never noticed that all the bullets/projectile attacks shot at him seemed to "miss" his fleshy bits.
The random professor Dave explains in the middle of this was perfect
Michael Ansara's voice acting was a big part of why I loved Mr. Freeze. The helmet echo/speaker effect and his slow, deliberate cadence literally slowed things down, freezing the timing of the show. The writing on his arc was so good.
Bobby has a connection to a plane of entropy, like cyclops has a connection to a redforce dimension.
Also i velieve he is considered a cannon god of ice by the ice giants.
Doom is always the most dripped out in the Hellfire Gala
Call McGrath is my favorite example of the lightning Powers equaling magnetism part because it's very specifically that he has lightning powers but also being a parkourer which is also aided by the fact that he now has literally magnet hands though with the caveat being he can't control it same with him stepping in a puddle and killing anyone around him
One of my favorite ice-users has to be Killer Frost, largely because her creator apparently took a physics class as her powers work by absorbing heat energy. Also leading to the fun fact that the trick to beating her is to encase her in ice.
Throwing him into the sun is just giving him another source of energy to manipulate
It was a stroke of genius that The Boys had Shawn Ashmore, who played Iceman in the X-Men films, to play Lamplighter in season 2
16:24 this is why I’ve always loved Citizen Steel in Legends of Tomorrow. Someone punches his jaw and breaks their hand because he turned the spot they hit to steel
19:58 another avatar example is in Korra where the evil air bender (can't remember his name) literally just air bends the wind out of a woman's lungs and soffocates her
I thought that was a Dalek at 19:15, never heard that sound effect anywhere else before.
20:00
To be fair, the person who invented Bloodbending seemed to have gone completely insane by the time she figured it out and she straight-up said she was never able to teach it to anyone else because she apparently couldn't ever leave the Fire Nation.
She could leave, but specifically wanted to torture Fire Benders at the prison she was trapped in. Also, bloodbending was only effective during a full moon.
the same people who think xmen have gone 'woke' are the same people who think that rage against the machine aren't political
i nearly passed out laughing when someone told me they liked xmen better when it wasnt political
Xmen being an analogy for the Civil Rights movement is post hoc rationalization. Stan Lee said he came up with mutants because he was tired of coming up with backstories.
@@Kwisatz-Chaderach they ain't mutually exclusive
@monkeyking9863 my guy....do you know what post hoc means? The ideology was slapped on later to sell books.
@@Kwisatz-Chaderach and? doesnt change the fact that just because Stan Lee wanted a new way to get super powers doesnt mean they also did not set out to write one about the civil rights movement
0:00 Thank you for having us!
4:27 Ice man was a summonable character in the X Men game for what you may know as the Mega Drive. His ability was bridging gaps in a manner described by you. Seems to be an old idea.
Storms a teacher if anything she should be proud that one of her students can make a blizzard
I’m enjoying the imagers popping up and the video clips
I can't believe Iceman's powers were ever considered lame either - he was my favorite X-Man when I was a kid.
29:17 To be fair, if i'd just been told by a telepath that i was gay and never realized, i'd probably read that book too.
Funnily, Richie didn’t tell Virgil to hover on metal, Virgil showed Richie his powers by standing on a car he was levitating while levitating other cars
I believe that shortly after Jean outed Bobby to himself, young Bobby outed older Bobby to the older X-Men
I need that hellfire gala video. The outfits are so clean
Thanks for the great content

That show, Static Shock, was really good!!
You mentioning both the idea of Angel carrying Cyclops and the the Gambit/Wolverine thing gave me another idea in the same vein
Angel carrying Gambit with a bag of tennis balls or something else that's easy to carry around in large quantities. With that you you basically have living bomber jet
You know what i like about victor frieze ? Hes humble, mans a legit dr of cryoscience and yet doesnt stand on titles. He's so cool 😎
Using Professor Dave in this video is such a great choice. Not only on your end but a HIGE tip of the hat to Dave as well. Awesome choice.
Static shock was the coolest show growing up, really ahead of its time.🎉 8:35
9:05
Yeah. One the issues of Magnetoc Levitation our lack of material, or inability to power it.
Its that, unless you have a perfect conductor, you need nearly infinite energy.
Static has (comic book) infinite energy. So he doesnt need a perfect conductor.
You know what would be great a death battle video between IceMan and Elsa
Isn't iceman not knowing how ice works, just the perfect condemnation of the american school system?
Magneto should also be able to rip people apart on a molecular level, since electromagnetism is what holds molecules together
I know the BBs would be more effective and all due to speed. But I honestly want to see Gambit absolutely wrecking shit with a slingshot.
I hate that I’m gonna be that guy but static already knew the applications of his powers from the jump in the first episode he shows his friend his powers by flying on a car frame
Reposting due to YT seeming to lose part of the comment:
Sub-Zero is a cyromancer, and I believe Bobby Drake is an Omega level mutant (I just got to the explanation of temperature, which I learned in my only semester in Hardin Simmons University. I learned a lot of really interesting things that stuck with me there, most of which is in relation to the processes and such of the body.)
Edit - so, it did bring up that he is an Omega level mutant, "radiates cold" is actually drawing in energy from the surrounding air, making the molecules slow down and create the illusion of an aura of cold surrounding him I know very little about thermodynamics, but I do know that "heat" goes from a hot source to a cold sink. Basically, the air around him is transferring energy towards his body, which then is immediately mitigated. On a side note, it seems a lot of things in the world, including the human body, always take the path of least resistance. The human body will digest the simplest form of carbohydrates first, and our brains work as hard as possible to think as little as possible.
Edit 2: Cyclops doesn't have eyes, iirc. The lasers are from another dimension that he is connected to. I don't know specifics, but I have heard that this is how the lasers work and where they come from, which seems really crazy to me, in fairness. Also, corrections to spelling, words, and grammar for the previous parts of the post.
One thing I've always wondered is if he can do cold welding and/or cold fusion.
the twitter weirdos are also mad that Storm wears a business casual outfit and has the mohawk. Something she's been known to wear on occasion for the past 40+ years
In terms of cool ice-power characters, i kinda have a soft spot for Ghiaccio and White Album from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. His stand is literally a full body suit with ice skates. That's just... yes. Perfect character design, 10/10, no notes.
11:09
We have a scene of what cyclops might look like doing that only its in DC and its Superman..
If iceman wasn't also creating some heat elsewhere in the universe every time he uses his power, he hastens the heat death of the universe.
28:24 Wait, so Emma Frost enters his mind & tells him how broken his power actually is, & Jean enters his mind & is just like "ha, gaaay!" 😂
In Super Crooks the main character has electricity powers and he has a brother that has magnetic powers. They can both do each others gimmicks but not as good as each other.
23:21 we recently found water on the sun
ice doesn't radiate cold, i absorbs heat
Oh shit, Proffessor Dave Cameo!!!!!!!!!!!
STATIC SHOCK!
never forget that time iceman snapped or was controlled or something and put the earth in a iceage and straight up froze thor who had just killed galactus
I feel like in universe bobby is a student and probably only had a surface level understanding of his powers and didn't think to five to deep into them like Dr doom knows more about Shadow cats powers then she does.
The Pyro Bobby dated waant the original that Pyro had been dead for nearly 25 years having been killed by the Legacy Virus only recently being resurrected during the Krakoan age
Ice man could have a fist fight with glactice and then there’s the thing of nitrogen ice I also think he would survive going into the sun by pulling all of the energy out of it
why hasn't there been a cosplay of 'hellfire gala' or on the fashion runways as a one off thing?
I don't know why they base Bobby's limitations on water and moisture.
With his powers he could just as easily freeze oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide
I appreciate the Japanese intro during the Hellfire Gala montage.
Ages ago on Fact Fiend they had a sponsor, or at least promoted, a store that sold cool laser-burnt wood wall art as well as shirts and such.
Anyone remember what they were called? Or maybe what video it was on so I can find it?
You're most likely thinking of Spacewolf. You should be able to find their site if you Google Spacewolf art.

@@wikiweekends That’s the one, cheers.
Been burning a hole in my head trying to remember/find it.
Awwww, you didn't want to get into field perturbation and Bose-Einstein Condensate!?
Pfft... 😂
Ice Beam! Yeah!
It's not that bloodbending is banned, it's that bloodbending (and the other specialties like metalbending for earthbenders) is an achievement. Not every waterbender can bloodbend.
As an iceman fan, i wish *those* people wouldn't hate iceman for being "woke propaganda" but would call the writers out for how disrespectful to Bobby taking away his ability to come out on his own terms was... i was genuinely upset with how they handled it. That being said, the treatment of his sexuality has been so much better since then
Yeah wtf Jean
Under normal circumstances you can only blood bend during a full moon and the only people who found a way around this limitation are dead adding its also a very hard technique to learn because of how much control you need to have to fully control aperson and again its especally hard to learn when you have only what 4 total days a year you can practice it plud the only person who we know can use it refuses to teach it for obvious reasons.
Idk how may times a full moon happens in a year last time I member checking I think it was 4 a year lol
Its like lightning bending any fire bender can learn it but only those who can learn to control it without blowing themselves up internally can actually use it.
12 full moons per year. about every 28 days
I have no problem with him being gay because I think it would be interesting telling the perspective of a gay man that had to hide most of his life but I'm very glad y'all called out his outing as being problematic because ya that was also teenage Bobby and being told you're gay by a psychic is very confusing (versus him coming out a little more naturally)
Magneto should basically be Michael vey
Could Iceman stop Global Warming in Marvel
Still mourning fact fiend.. but thank God we still have wiki weekends
I've alway hated that "Mutants are an allegory for the civil rights movement" argument. They're a really, really bad allegory for it. The whole point of the civil rights movement is that you shouldn't fear or persecute someone based on the color of their skin or their sexuality or their gender identity. Deep down they are humans, just like you or me. But that isn't the case with mutants. There are several mutants (including iceman) who could destroy entire cities, wipe continets of the map or kill all life on earth. They should be feared. They should be under government control. If they were real we would be terrified of them.
as a transwoman i just wanna say love you guys
Lowkey hope they explore his sexuality if he comes into the MCU. Him being limited in his power set because of his inability to accept his sexuality has always been an intriguing concept to me.
Literally nobody cares stop shoving it down our throats
