This is the official video for "Bates Motel" by The Hitmen from their 1981 album Torn Together. The Hitmen playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLuYLNFRQCZz8A63G0v3361cl1hEhBbto0
I really don't get it. This song is amazing from all perspectives, so is its video, yet, both are hardly known. So underrated it is criminal 😖. Thank you so much for sharing this gem! ❤️
The actual music video is in full color and was once available in pretty good quality on RUclips but now only the black and white (or color reduced) version seems to be available
The color version that you saw was not the actual color of the original video. This version is the most accurate in terms of what the video was actually supposed to look like. Several scenes were supposed to have a black-and-white feel because many of Hitchcock's films were black-and-white films. That is absolutely intentional. The color video you saw had incorrect colors in it. That color was not intentional and was not part of the original video. I have carefully compared all of the versions available and this is the correct one. Just check 0:46 and 0:48 and you can clearly see that the video was never supposed to be entirely in color.
@@rareelectronic I just found a recording from MTV2 made in the year 2000 that shows the the whole video is in full color (except for the band members watching the film on the projector. Those scenes are in black and white thus making reality be black and white and the "film" color.). Look for: "The Hitmen - Bates Motel (M2)" The video I saw years ago was higher res and from I believe the Rage music video show from Australia
@@Leo-sd3jt There is another color version that is in several places on RUclips with incorrect colors, but the video from the "M2" broadcast that you mentioned is indeed the correct one. That is how the video should look. I'm still going to keep this version up because it doesn't have the "M2" logo in the corner, even though the colors aren't as vibrant.
I got brought this single from an newsagent shop that sold old jukebox records I got it as a blind buy or a deaf buy as I had never heard it and so glad I did buy it for 25p and I’ve still got it all these years on
Half of my playlist for The Hitmen is from your channel but I saw that you only had a poor-quality video so I thought I'd create a new one from a different source by chopping it out of a longer five-hour broadcast. This copy is taken from MTV's Halloween Special: 5 Hours with Guest VJ Elvira (October 31, 1984).
@@yuria_nihilisten That's the whole purpose of this channel. I determined that a bunch of extremely rare songs and films will be lost forever if I die without posting them so I started posting them all here.
The music of the 1980s fits the needs of the 2020s while the stuff currently passing itself off as music in 2023-2024 is primitive, retrograde, libido-driven, non-creative and brain numbing.

Every song on this album was killer! Stellar album that still today I play from beginning to end!
Yes i agree this was one of the most underated new wave albums ever released.
My absolute favorite video from Elvira's 1986 MTV Halloween special! :D
One of my favorite vids to play when i was an 80s VJ in SF. Good job restoring the old VHS
I just edited it out of a longer video. I was not involved in the original VHS conversion.
Amazing song and video. I had such a huge crush on Ben back in the day. He was just gorgeous.
Today marks 40 years since Bates Motel was released!
"FOREVER..."

The singer, Ben Watkins, went on to score The Matrix and has a band called Juno Reactor.
I know such a great song and so unknown.

Sort of quite bizarre to see this so many years later !
Ben! :)
I love it. Should be on cd.
It is. It's a compilation called "Wave goodbye to the 80's."
@@user-bx8up6fi4p That's news to me, thank you!!

Have the album, but I've never seen this video.

I cannot find this on Spotify. Is it just not there?
AHH I dropped everything as soon as I saw the notification. Never saw this video in colour before. Are you a miracle performer?! Thank you for sharing

Wow, amazing! The info is much appreciated. I'm so happy this gem, unknown as it is, won't be forgotten.

Wish I could find a crisp copy of this video
Nice nod to Eraserhead in the video.

Looks like a David Lynch video.
Where is Alan?
He was only briefly in the band, after this had been released.
@@yuria_nihilisten ok, thanks!
