  • In this video I show you how to replace the Valve Cover Gasket and Spark Plug Tube Seals in a 2005 Honda Civic 1.7L with the Non-VTEC motor.
    Part #'s -
    Valve cover gasket: 12341-PLC-000
    Spark Plug Tube Seals: 12342-RYE-004 (x4)
    I also recommend P/N: 90442-PLC-000 (x5) which are the gaskets that seal the valve cover bolts.
    If you get all 3 parts, you can get the valve cover gasket kit: 12030-PLC-010. We did not have a good experience with this kit, as the spark plug tube seals were slightly less robust as ordering them individually.
    A good idea would be to replace the spark plugs at the same time, if they need to be done. ONLY USE NGK Laser Platnium OEM plugs.
    NGK #: PZFR6F-11
    Video shot with iPhone 6S Plus in 4K.

    If confused just watch 1A Auto's video, way more descriptive plus they actually clean the valve cover and use carb cleaner

    Thanks for the info my civic threw code P0302 a few days ago and I thing it’s a combo of bad coil and bad valve cover gasket and spark plug tube gaskets I went to change the plugs first thing and noticed tons of oil in the spark plugs and of course changing the plugs didn’t make a difference

    Lmao watching you wrestle with that harness was the funniest part. All you had to do was push the harness towards the radiator, it would of been completely out of the way

    The part I needed to see was the orientation of the spark plug tube seals. I still couldn’t see because it was too dark. When installing the seals, and you’re hammering them in with a properly sized socket, what side of the seal would your socket be touching? Would it be the inside of the seal and your socket would go between the seal walls, or would it be the other way with your socket hammering on the face of the seal?

      @@WickedG5150, I figured it out on my own. The flat side goes in. As you are looking at installing the seals on the inside of the valve cover, the open end of the seal with the spring facing you is how it is to be installed.

    Do u have air blow the engine before u work on it. Someone told me that dust particles can go inside the engine?

    Crappy camera work. If you've got two people, one should ALWAYS run the camera while the other works. Or invest $30 in a tripod. And get better lighting, it's next to impossible to see when shadows are cast. That being said, it was helpful the little I did see of the ignition coil tube seals and what they should look like without the seals installed.

    before I watched your video I was reading up and it said these bolts had to be torqued to 6lbs in order like you were doing. However torquing it to 6lbs broke the threads that the bolt enters into. what would be recommended to fix that?

    Hello, I need some help. I have an 03 civic, I replaced the donut seals, cleaned the coil packs and spark plugs ( spark plugs were new) because some oil got in the wells. It ran fine afterwards but eventually the check engine light came on, and says it's misfiring on all cylinders. It looks dry in the wells with the new seals doing there job. So my question is why is this happening? I cleaned spark plugs off incase I didn't do a good job last time. Coil packs look good since I last cleaned them. I don't get it. Do I need to get new coil packs, and or spark plugs? Did the oil getting through it before ruin them?? Please someone help. I don't know what to do. Thankyou!

    • @HondaSolutions
      @HondaSolutions  4 месяца назад

      You need further diagnosis as to the misfire. On all cylinders I would suspect timing first and go from there

    Hi, is there a set of lower spark plug tube seals on this engine? 1.7L, I know the top ones are underneath the valve cover but I've the same engine and replacing the seals, removed the rocker arm assembly hoping the lower seals/orings would be there like in the similar honda engines but can't find the lower seals (O'rings) on this guy, which may also be leaking? is there a lower set of spark plug seals/Orings somewhere else on this engine? I've oil on the electrode side (cylinder side) of the spark plugs and thought I should replace the spark plug tube seals along with the lower ones but I'm lost now lol. Ideas?
    Thank you in advance!

    Boss i got a 04 civic ex and my 2 spark plug is the only one leaking oil .. Do you suggest replaceing the whole valve cover gasket and the tube seals or just replaceing the one thats leaking ? I bought new spark plugs as well just in case the oem ones are bad but my car is makin tickin noises when i start it so im assumeing my plugs are bad right?

    • @HondaSolutions

      Lawtownz Best yes. I would replace all 4 spark plug tube seals as well as the valve cover gasket.

    • @HondaSolutions
      @HondaSolutions  7 лет назад

      Ticking noises when cold indicates the need for a valve adjustment. If it ticks while hot, could be a number of things but less worrisome.

    • @eddiereichel9354
      @eddiereichel9354 6 лет назад

      Just replace the ones leaking. There is no need to do the others. If they are not leaking you may cause a leak by replacing them.

    i have a Honda civic 2005, and Does not matter if the engine is new or old with more than 200,000 mileages the oil always should be 5w-20?????
    Here the mechanics say that should be a more viscosity like 10w-30 or some like that because the engine is not new, is that right??

    • @HondaSolutions
      @HondaSolutions  8 лет назад +1

      Your mechanic is wrong. He doesn't know more than the people who engineered the engine. The key to oils is consistency. Stick with 5W20 or 0W20 would be acceptable. Is it burning a lot of oil?

    • @AndyRodriguezJimenez047
      @AndyRodriguezJimenez047 8 лет назад

      Not is not burning a lot of oil. so i should change it every 5,000 mileages??

    Had a hell of a time changing the valve cover, it still leaked once I put it on my wife’s car...the damn thing came off each time I put it on...the a/c line was in the way also the spark plug wiring was in the way.

    • @slowazzes1972
      @slowazzes1972 4 года назад

      Theres a little black mount for the a/c line on the front of the engine if you take that off you can easily slip the harness in front of the engine and out of the way. If you need take the air filter box off that will give you more room, you also got to make sure you got a nice clean surface for the gasket to seal and put rtv in the outside corners of the cam journals

    • @HondaSolutions
      @HondaSolutions  6 лет назад +2

      Custom_car_models I have done this so much I know about how much 7.2 ft lbs of torque is. The take home point is that it’s not going to leak if all the bolts have about the same torque on them
