Best video on changing this gasket. No music, no BS talking, and perfectly clear video. Thank you!
For real though! 🎉
Every automotive DIY on RUclips needs to be edited this way. THANK YOU!!!
Awesome, this is well edited and no long talks before or after. Just short and simple and I was able to do it myself. Thank you!
Exactly 👏👏👏
Hey guys Chris Fix here
Here here!
I like this setup. No talking, detailed shots, thorough such as wiping away from engine and using duster to blow debris off valve cover, torque specs etc...well done
DIY videos (and perhaps their audiences even more so) frequently suffer from the same nonsense that plagues recipe websites: long-winded preamble that often runs longer than the useful content by several orders of magnitude. The way this video was produced and edited should be regarded as the gold standard for all types of DIY instructionals. It's all business. Literally no one who searches for something like this cares about ANYTHING in the video that isn't "So how do I fix this?"
Thank you for showing me what I needed to know without wasting my time.
Exactly. I hate when I have to skip through a long speech😂😂
1000% times better then top mechanic youtubers but there are some gem channels out there as well, this one included
Very well made tutorial. We dont need to see you take out every bolt, but its nice to see you touch every bolt.
Such a smart way of saving time while getting the needed info out.
Thanks a lot, i did mine today. Some tips, always disconnect negative battery terminal, and properly check if the seal is sitting flush. I didnt disconnect the battery and it started giving me codes and misfire. Luckily also saw the seal little bit out of place on the right side below the rubber pipe, its a tricky area. Had to remove and fix twice and its all fine now.
Thank you. I was just quoted a LARGE amount of money to replace the valve cover gasket. After watching this GREAT DIY video I feel comfortable doing it myself and saving a few hundred dollars.
oh if only they could all be so straightforward. big credit to the editing. I wish the entire internet would copy your stellar example of getting to the point
And this folks is what a great video looks like, no chatter, no nonsense, step by step, cut and dry. Great video, thanks for posting it.
Thanks for showing the torque sequence. A lot of tutorials leave this important step out!
Hey just wanted to say, these videos are quick, easy to follow and clear. Straight to the point no talking lol. I washed my engine bay yesterday making sure I covered all the electrical components. Was quick and turned out alright, gonna replace my valve gasket soon so thanks for this video! Good content man, keep it up 👍🏽
Man talk about a simple video and a great walkthrough. I was gifted a little 08 civic that needs a little love but overall runs great, I noticed the gasket is leaking a little so this is a perfect video for getting that replaced.
Great. Check out my other civic videos on my channel
I usually don't comment on videos, but i actually really enjoyed this video. Thanks for making it
Outstanding, thank you so much for this video. Dealer quoted me 400.00 to do this all I need is that special gasket and that honda seal stuff and just some time. I can do this myself. This car has been amazing and I love it and don't want to get rid of it. Just had the accessory drive belt tensioner assembly replaced. NOT CHEAP. THANK YOU FOR BEING ON RUclips.
I don't understand RUclips - This is a perfect video, who could ask for more and why would anyone dislike - SMH. Thx so much for sharing - I will subscribe.
Such a perfectly helpful and well put-together tutorial for this. You are the man, thanks!
Best self explained video I’ve seen so far. Thank you for your expertise.
Gold. This is just pure gold. Tks man. I have to do the valve adjustment and was struggling myself wondering how was the procedure to remove the valve cover.
Again. Tks and keep up this amazing work!
Tip: put some electric tape over the flat screw driver head to prevent damage on that plastic screw.
Still helping people to this day... i like it
Very good. No fluff, all the important steps. Thank you!
My Civic's headgasket just blew, and this saved me a world of hurt! Even ::I:: can fix it! Thank you so much for posting this!
Ted Bragg headgasket or head cover gasket aka valve cover gasket?
Thank you for making this video. It is excellent and I just finished changing the gasket on my son's Civic.
Went smoothly because of you!
You got the hands of a heart surgeon great job
Very nice! Couldn't find a video for my 08honda civic this past Sat..and jus went all in.. I did it exactly how u did it.. It was a pain finding them 2 screws in the back hidden😅... But mission accomplished 👍
Best diy videos on youtube
One of the best how to do the work yourself. Thank you.
no bullshit music, just the facts, visually - nicely done.
Just got a 08 Honda Civic, needs this not asap but still I’ve never worked on cars and this is perfect video I will be attempting Wednesday 🤣
Nice video, just done mine and all went ok, mine had leaked a lot worse(110k miles) just take your time and be very careful on those rocker cover bolts don't over tighten them. Cheers.
I really like this video no talking straight to it I liked shared and subscribed !!!!
Just did this today thanks to your video for the help? My old one was slowing oil to leak because it was pretty much rotted. Thank you!!
just did this on a 2008 civic DX...just one thing for someone who wants to do it,
it's better to remove the cowl panel, to easily get to the 4 valve cover bolts on the backside...you can also choose not to, but it'll be annoying...also the replacement gasket, when you put it in, you might think its long and its not the right one, but you just have to insert it tight all around, and it'll be just right. thanks @MrRangerZr1
omg your like to only one that works on this car!! and have clear footage thank you thank you thank you!!!! everytime im doing somthing on my civic i watch ur vids thank you again!!
direct to the point, well done! need to save this on my playlist for future diy
I Subbed. I have an oil leak in that area, and its gathered around the spark plugs. Im gonna start with this first. Thank you so much!
Awesome vid dude! Looks like I might have to do this to my daughter's civic soon. Hope it goes as smooth as yers🤞
Thanks buddy for this video
You're the best...No more comment. Thanks again
Grestest video ever. Cant say enough. Great job!
one of the best videos i have seen thanks man
Legit the best video haha. Anything special I need to remove the Hondabond or just scrape it off
Use a plastic blade
Does the 1.8 have the "Cylinder Head Plug" that could also leak oil? Im getting ready to order parts and r/r the valve cover gasket on my 1.8, but noticed that the 1.7 has a plug located on passenger side suspiciously where i have a leak that my alternator is shooting straight up.
Some motors have it, annoying when those leak.
What's an alternative to this hondabond sealant??? Like what other sealant can I use?
Hondabond is the best
Don't get no better than that i have not done mine yet but thank you so much for showing us 😊
Great video, I am going to try this out this weekend or next and this will be a great help.
Best of all videos. I’m a little bit confused about how and where to apply Hondabond sealant?
At 4:26 I show the two spots.
It comes in a tube, just squeeze a little bit in those 2 areas.
Nice camera skills and hands
Best gasket replacement vid. Thank you
Thank you for a very clean and proper video, great work!
Just what I needed. Thank you
Thank You I couldnt find the other 2 bolts and they were on the back side of the 06 civic covered by a plastic.
i did this in like 40mins. however i used a flat head to get the cam seal cap out. it didnt give me issues. after that i still had time left to knock out valve cover gasket b 4 work lol. good video though man.
how much money did you save
@@666dynomax lord only knows. the part itself if i remember correctly was only $15, but I believe if i took it to a mech. They would have charged like $60-$80.
Thanks so much for this video and I will replace it on the wekend. Was gonna take it to the shop but it looks easy.
Thx video was clear and straight forward. Sadly I broken one of the bolts and now oil is leaking slowly out the back. Gonna fix it tho. But thx
Just fix it
Your video is perfect and straight forward.
Thanks brother I’ll do it my self ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I did the same thing but it feels like air is escaping from the edge of the lid. Do you put sealant on the entire gasket? Or does it need to be tightened more? thank you
Check over your install, should not have any gaps.
Now we just need one for the 1.3l for the hybrid.👍🏼
Thanks for sharing this diy
Just perfect
Such a simple good little motor
great great video, I'm a little confused though, at 4:25 "apply new hondabond sealant"?? is that the gasket itself or did you add anything the outer rim of the head, i didn't see any material...
You can see the two spots of sealant I added. You can see the old sealant at 2:57.
mine oil is leaking from the left side by the wires on the left side of the engine , do u know why it's leaking from the side , the right side by all the pulleys are fine ..
the engine is a little bit slanted maybe that's why but just change the gasket
Just the way I love my videos !

Appreciate the support!
So the small bolts broke when I tried to take them off. Any link to replacements I can’t find them anywhere
Which bolt? lmk
Bro this video is fucking awesome man I really appreciate you doing it , adding value to the world my brotha good shit💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Just curious why this job was needed. Looks clean and no leaks. Thanks
I just filmed a video for you guys
@@MrRangerZr1 Wow - thanks
If you are in the NY area, come over any time and film the repairs on my car!
I'll hold the camera
Quick and to point thank you for this video
You gotta love this guy-does the job and don't say sh#t....
Great video thanks 🙏🏽
Great video! I had a question that might sound dumb but I recently topped off my oil, do I have to drain it to access this area?
No
Concisely done excelente.
I have the same engine in a 15 civic. The gasket also comes with spark plug tube seals. I have a touch of oil in one of the wells. How are those changed?
The only way oil can get in there is from the valve cover, as the valve cover and ignition coil are separate. There is a seal on the ignition coil you can change.
@@MrRangerZr1 okay thank you I will try the valve cover first and see what happens
Great video how tight do I need to tighten the valve cover bolts?
Not super tight, just snug all of them down evenly
How much is a dab or two of sealant actually doing here?
LOVE THIS VERY DETAILED
Great video! Replacing mine soon
Thanks so much for making this just the way you did. When I typed in what i was looking for, I saw your video at under 7 mins and another right next to it that was over DOUBLE as long! I cant stand the drawn out ones with too much talking that you have to fast forward through so I selected yours. Question. What is the Honda bond and where exactly do you apply it, I didn't see you apply it and I didn't see where you applied it. That part could ahve used a bit of explanation Thank you
At 4:23, you can see the two spots of the new hondabond.
@@MrRangerZr1 thank you. This new valve cover gasket I bought came with these other grommets and seals. Where do those go?
@@Brandovibe Those don't apply to your car. The same gasket kit is shared with other models which have those seals.
@@MrRangerZr1 ahhh, thanks! That make sense now! I was going crazy looking all over for where they went and thought maybe I had to take more off to get to them.
excellent video! thanks.
Where do you apply that “Hondabond”?? I only saw two spot and I was wondering what exactly are the points
Just those two spots I show in the video.
MrRangerZr1 what’s an alternate for that Honda bond? Black Silicone??
What two spots??

I have a Honda accord 2009 with this same engine R20A3 got it with 199k used. i discovered that the coolant has a milky surface and my research point to blown head gasket which will cause oil to leak into the radiator.
please confirm this is the head gasket or is there any other gasket?
note: my engine does not misfire neither does it overheat
Could be the radiator transmission fluid cooler.
@@MrRangerZr1
Thanks, how can i diagnose it and whats the way to resolve it
Detailed thank u brother
Thanks for sharing
Just a question, should we drained the engine oil first?
No, you wouldn’t need to drain the oil for this job.
Hey quick question, why is the hondabond sealent only applied on the corners and not around the whole perimeter of the gasket? I'm assuming it's just to prevent leaks from vibration instead of actually sealing since that is what the gasket is for. Thanks in advance !
The sealant helps seal the sharp corners/curves
Can you do a Honda civic 2007 power steering pump replacement?
Do you need RTV sealant for valve cover gasket?
Yes link in description
Just trying to figure it out bc nobody has said anything. Do you want to leave the car sit over night? For the sealant to harden on the gasket?
Yes
Great video! Is it necessary to let the Honda bond cure before driving or can you just crank and go?
let it cure overnight
@@MrRangerZr1 thanks for replying! Before I thought about letting the bond cure I did a test drive to look for leaks. It’s been setting since and I’ll leave it overnight. Should I be good?
@@colbyhinkle8868 if it doesn't leak you're good
@@MrRangerZr1thanks!
Great Video! Can you do also a vtec solenoid gasket replacement video for this particular kind of car? ☺️🙏
It's on the list
@@MrRangerZr1 okay ill find it, how about the camshaft thrust o ring replacement?
Ivan Balagot added to the list :)
Thanks. Just saved me $200
Hey my friend ! I have a loud noise of exhaust or air leak around this area especialy on the top of the engine? The engine is a lil bit louder than before ? Can the catalylic converter may be the problem ? Too much pressure in the engine ? Thank you
Check for exhaust leaks, they don't usually leak but it can happen.
@@MrRangerZr1 thank you !!
Great video! Only question I have is does the Honda Bond go all the way around?
No only the spots i showed in the video
Do you need to put the Honda bond on all 4 corners?
Just the areas I show at 4:24
Just to be sure exactly where do you apply the Honda bond
At 4:27 do you see the dabs of new hondabond? That's where.
@@MrRangerZr1 Thanks a lot, how much do I have to apply, sorry total newbie, thinking of doing myself, in India dont know if I can get this bond, what is it usually called?
@@aakudev oil pan gasket sealant you guys have it I'm sure
Hey I was wondering if I need a torque wrench since this is just the valve cover?
Nah just tighten it up like I did
How would you know this is required on your car? Oil leaking or burning? Just curious I have a 2006 that's consuming oil but no drops/drips anywhere and zero exhaust smoke.
try replacing the pcv valve: ruclips.net/video/O5SF_dr3Oi0/видео.html
Thankbyou so much for ur video
Just quick question
Don u have to place hondabond only in the spot u did?
And do u have to empty it from oil before u start?
Just the two spots I showed. No need to drain oil.
MrRangerZr1
Btw did you adjust the valve clearance while your at it? Honda owners manual says to adjust when “noisy”
I broke one of my valve cover bolts, will it still be drivable until I can get it fixed.
Don Mon youll be fine just dont forget about it lol
@@MrRangerZr1 thank you
I broke one of mine also while installing it back on
