No, they were never going to make it. Peugeot was just creating a lót of concept cars around that period, every one more wild and out there than the last, and Peugeot is one of the few brands that has held on to the idea that concept cars shouldn't just be an empty shell, but should actually be drivable, even if they're not road legal, which is why the 907 actually got the V12. Like all their concept cars of the era though (with the exception of the Elixir, that ended up being the 407 estate), they were not intended for production.
Ah yes. Peugeot also even made the 908 RC; a luxurious 4-door saloon that was rear mid-engined. And get this; the HDi FAP 5.5 litre V12 of that other beast was derived from their racing car.
I remember seeing this concept on the motorshow back then, when I was arround 3-4 years old. Looked really crazy for something made by Peugeot. I think my family has a videotape (Mini DV) of that day somewhere. I wonder where It can be.
They went too far with it in Taxi 3, but the ones from Taxi 1 and Taxi 2 are iconic indeed. That said, the film modifications looked a lot better on the 407 from Taxi 4 than they did on any of the 406s, even if Taxi 4 was a bit of a terrible film compared to the rest.
Amazing , never new this existed! It’s so cool that it was created to inspire future design, I assumed that it would have been an extension of that 1st 306. I always hated the way that 306 looked but seeing it was designed for SLR style body first, I have a lot more respect for it !
People can forget how important the french have been to automotive history, with the cars being pumped out of France today it can be easy to forget, the story would be wholly different if the likes of panhard and Talbot lago had survived.
i just got a brand new peugeot 2008 GT because... well because they told me it was a 6 week wait for it instead of the 6 months or so for a ford puma but gosh i don't regret it every time i sit inside it, they are on a roll with their design team at the moment, i don't think ive seen a bad looking peugeot this year and they have a history of some really nice looking cars with a mix of its share of atrocities aswell lol, i mean... they have a history of electrics not being electric anymore but we wont mention that haha.
I still do a double take every time one of the new 508 estates comes driving past me; it's probably the most naturally imposing car in that segment since the old Alfa 156... Such beautiful cars they are making at the moment.

4:30 Correction. The regulations of the Le Mans Hypercar class state that the cars must be derived from road going variants of the same model. Therefore the Peugeot 9X8 will be turned into a road going supercar. Along with Ferrari's upcoming hypercar, the Toyota GR010 Hybrid, etc..
My Dad drove a 1990 Peugeot 505 V6 growing up! He had to sell it in 1998 & bought a 1999 Lexus GS400 because Parts were limited in 🇺🇸.. I’ve been looking for one because I’ve always loved that car!💚
That first question. "What cars spring to mind when you think Peugeot?" For me, it's the peugeot 306 Rally Car, with that spoiler on the back. My first ever acknowledgement of what a rally car was came via a Playstation 1 game called "V-Rally". For some reason, the peugeot 306 always stood out for me in that game, because of that little spoiler on the back, and the way the back end of the car looked like it was scraping the floor. I grew up liking peugeots because of that. The 406 coupe was gorgeous, but the 406 Sedan, which I owned, I found horrible, with uncomfortable seats, and just a dull interior and it was slow AF. I also owned a MK1 Renault Laguna and that was so much nicer inside. Lovely car those MK1 lagunas. Even today, if you google the interior of the MK1 Laguna, and the dash is lovely, wraps right around you.
I have a model of this car and I was thinking just the other day that what if they made an actual production version! I am amazed that you are talking about this car!
Wow, it's sad we didn't see that glorious V12 on the road. In fact I don't even remember seeing any Peugeot on the road since early 2010's here in Greece. When I use to see million's of 206's and 207's.
I was at a carshow this weekend with a mate and his son. The kid saw buying some Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars and said I have some of these at home and I dont play with anymore and you can have these. Once back at his place I chose 5 cars out of his collection and one of was this car! And initially I didn’t take as it is Peugeot, and French. The kid and my friend are French. Eventually I did take and now this video comes out. What a coincidence.
You failed to mention that Peugeot actually took this car to Goodwood FoS and drove it up the hillclimb. I will never forget that sound, even though the exhaust clamping came loose, resulting in a intens rattling.
Pininfarina did a fantastic job on the 406 Coupe. A proper coupe with lovely lines and proportions. A lot nicer than the giant 4 door 'coupes' you get now. The French never really made any fully fledged super cars though. I know you could technically class Bugatti as French (sort of) but they do hyper cars not super cars. Plus an Italian brand with a German engine is hardly French anyway.
We had the unfamous Ventury, kinda "the french Ferrari" but they had financial problems in the 90's. Since the brand reborned in 2000 and is specialized in electric sports car...
The 406 Coupé was absolutely fantastic, and I personally adore the 407 Coupé as well, even if it was an inhouse design rather than one done by Pininfarina. Shame they are all front-wheel drive though...
Either it had no downforce at all (which would make it terrifying at vmax), or 222mph was absolute fantasy. 500bhp with a realistic coefficient of drag *might* get you to 200mph with appropriate gearing and a long enough runway.
I am of French descent and always thought of Peugeots as really interesting and unique cars. It was sad to see them leave the American market years ago. I think it was due to them being quite slow and unreliable. This car had the potential to change my opinion I'm certain. Even still, I genuinely miss the old cool slow ones as well.
When I was in kindergarten, I confused Peugeot with Ferrari, as both them had horses as their symbol. And used to tell my parents that I saw a Ferrari everyday when I came home.

I actually remember when I saw this around 15 or more years ago as a concept on tv, I was obsessed with it for a while. V12 with 368KW as we speak here in South Africa or round 500hp, should have been made Peugeot had alot of innovative concepts through the years this should have seen production.
Back in the old days, when car companies apparently had endless budget to build things like this model - fully functional. Back then, when VW put V10 Diesel engines into production cars (Touareg, Phaeton), Audi even put a V12 TDI engine into the Q7. V6‘s into Golf and Jetta - special, but still normal. Today, happy to see an I4 engine within Compact Class instead of 3 Cylinder. Oh my, how things have changed…
The existence of this in 2004 just makes their lineup of the past 17 years look even more depressing.
They made some pretty nice LMP cars and failed to bring any of that tech to a fast road car.

After viewing many reviews I purchased the new 3008 and after 2 years have no regrets.
