He was amazing. I remember him from Hogan's Heros, then he participated a lot in Match Game, and thank goodness he got the big spotlight in Family Feud. What a funny gentleman. Rest in piece, make people happy on the other side!
I also watched Hogan's Heros and he was our (siblings and myself) favorite from the show. Then Match Game because he was on there. Then Family Fued became my favorite game show of all time. Just the one with Dawson.
I wish game shows these days still allowed the hosts to interact with the contestants as much as Richard did at the beginning of the episode. Too many commercials!
On this first go of the original ABC Family Feud in 1976, Richard Dawson (born Colin Lionel Emm) was a young 43; he would be over 50 (52 to be exact) when that long ABC run ended in 1985.

Wow what nice people existed back then. Now we have to watch the well well well crowd on TVs and media, and not this smart, educated and overall nice people.
And I'm surprised the strike klaxon wasn't used for Fast Money loss, especially pitiful and super close ones. To this day, the strike klaxon STILL hasn't been used in FM losses.

46 years ago today (7/12/76).
Love musical and creative families were back then.
This is the first Family Feud I remember. I was born in 77 so was little when I watched this. Was there a lollipop tree or have I just gone crazy...
Yes there was, but if you remember the TV show vs TV show episodes, i think they had it for those if I recall

The TPiR losing horns should've been added for a failed Fast Money round.
And I'm surprised the strike klaxon wasn't used for Fast Money loss, especially pitiful and super close ones. To this day, the strike klaxon STILL hasn't been used in FM losses.
I've always wondered......did the female contestants always have to kiss Richard Dawson even if maybe they didn't want to?
The Salvation Army was there and they did not.
