Makes sense keeping an "old" vehicle going as long as rust doesn't get it. Parts are cheaper, labor is lower, ownership is a one off purchase price, and as we can see, mechanics are happier remembering simpler times. 😃

I had to smile about how you reckon this van is simple. It still looked a bit complicated to me. I think I could have climbed inside the engine compartment of my Hillman Hunter and stood beside it. There was bags of room lol. Way back in November 2001 I bought a brand new VW Caddy SDi in fantastic flash red. MF 51 DTV. (not many left) I gave it my son in 2017 when I retired. He's still got it and uses it most days with his bathroom business. I could have changed it for a new one every 3 years but I didn't and I'm glad I didn't! Just think of all those new vans and CO2 I've saved.

Also does it use much air, as I only have a fairly small compressor. Keep the videos coming. I look after our families three cars a 16 year old Fiesta, 12 year old Mondeo and a 6 year old Skoda Octavia, all three running well, in part due to regular maintenance. This dry belt does not fail, according to my experience and many others the wet belt that is fitted with the commonrail pump is the weak one that fails , the teeths practically fall off. The wet belt is not that simple, and tou need to align that lower cover correctly.

These engines run on 2 timing belts (the second one can be timing chain), which should be replaced every 125000 miles, had one of these MPV version year 2008, high pressure fuel pump went also injectors, all fixed together with timing and rust, very practical motor, big cargo area only not suitable for EU motorways due to short 5 speed gearbox, it gets too noisy inside, cheers.
