  • The Proteus has always been one of my favourite ships to fly, but in recent times it's slipped from being the main doctrine flown by pretty much everything, to an incredibly rare site in EVE Online - So, today, I'm going to talk about how I'd rebalance it to make it a more popular (but still fair) ship to use!

    No ads on this one, because it's A) about 2 weeks late & B) a lot different my usual content - Hope you guys enjoy nonetheless, as it was VERY fun to go out and solo PvP in a ship I have a lot of love for!       I couldn't agree more, #givetheproteussomelove (and make even more bettererer the other t3's.) Side note:
      I lost my first t3 today, she's given me plenty of kills and will be missed

    Unnerf Tech 3's and just increase the production costs, also remove skill point loss and just make it a new neuro enhancement skill that if you lose a tech 3 of any kind you gain a debuff that makes you unable to use them at full strength for a few hours or days, rather then forcing you to retrain your subsystem skills
    The production of Tech 3s are balanced around the idea that wormholes are supposed to be harder and more deadly content, but if you've ever lived in a wormhole with a dedicated group you'd know that wormholes are actually really safe and Tech 3 production really only makes up a fraction of a wormholer's income, the majority of a wormholer's income is blue loot

    I think the Proteus is fine as it can still get crazy DPS + Tank, much more than the Deimos. Where it is let down is its speed and capacitor (I guess more PG would be cool too). The point range is great, but it is not useful if you can't keep up with your target, especially when your MWD drains your tiny cap pool so quickly. The hyperspatial subsystem is great for hunting, iirc its the only subsystem which gives both align time and warp speed. But maybe I have a bias towards my old favourite ship.

    One suggestion. Maybe have some infographics in the background as well as the combat background video. Got too easy to focus on the video and ignoring your discussion. Great video though.

    One thing that I thought tech 3's could focus on is command bonuses. The tech 3 cruiser is the only way for a covert group to have any kind of buffs. Why not make some sort of specialized covert command bonuses?

    You could introduce a even more specific weapons subsystem for the weapons ie one for blaster and a different one for rails on the proteus, it would really emphasize the STRATEGIC meaning of the ship.

    The only complaint I have about proteus is sensor strength. Takes a while lock smaller targets.

      Newer player here, I have no idea what the old proteus was like, but I feel like the modern day Proteus is just overlooked, and people aren’t entirely aware of its capabilities

      Galileo Humphreys I fly a proteus exclusively and I’d still admit while it’s strong, it’s not anywhere near what a Loki or Legion can do.

      I think most people are on my Patreon just to support me, rather than to decide the direction of the content, but I'd feel guilty if I didn't give something back to the folks paying me money to do something I enjoy!
      Maybe I'll have to do an open poll on RUclips at some point and see what the whole audience wants :)

    armor ships have big issue that damage mods go to low slots as tank where shield tank goes to mid slots armor ships should have smaller sig than shield ones as shields by lore increase sig and armor doesnt also mentioned pg issues is bad as it can force you to use implants to fit ship in similar way to shield ship can run with other implants than pg ones. Making change that would lock addional low slot from mid can help also drone bay arent galente ships more like armor droneboats ?how about allowing t3 with drifter adapted loading systems load drones like ammo with loading cycle from cargo hold ? this would eliminate issue of defanging with just pg changes with sig small sig update. Another thing that could be done is adding addional cargo space like fleetmaintance that would allow use modules/drones to be refited on the go from that compartment wouldnt have to be large for t3 200m3 capacity and can be filled only in stations or with use of mobile depot. Allowing t3 to switch burned out modules refit in mid of combat would be gamechanging machanic that would allow t3 to have their spot as jack of all trades allowing adaptation to situation on the go. T3 dessys got their flight modes while t3 strategics got only stat/ layout changing potential that isnt noticable on battle field as someone switching from defence mode to aggresion then to propulsion to affect outcome, and if this is too hard maybe introduce those modes to t3 after all they are based on same drifter technology. Another possabilyty for good spot for t3's is giving them weakend version of jump drive allowing t3 fleet to jump to becons at maybe half range what capitals can do with higher "cooldown". After all t3 are much more expensive than t2 with lower stats for more fitting options that give less.

    The only thing I know about the Protey is how many there are in wh space. No matter where you are or what you're doing, there's always a cloaky Protey right next to you.

      That was the case before the rebalance. Now it's a mix of Stratioses and Lokis

    Also CCP: Let's introduce Triglavian ships that can drone, neut, smarty, rep and have no tracking problems at all.

      They used to be pretty damn awesome, the proteus was the good cloaky one. The tengu could run any site, the legion could neut out and the loki was abit shit but had a great point and web bonus

    T3's as a whole, I wish they'd drop the jack of all trades and instead make them the pocket battleships they feel like they should be, but only for W Space. Make em as trash as you want for K Space then give them a huge native bonus when in W Space to put them up competing with BS's. Aside from that, bake in the Covert Sub's cloaking device and make sure all variants have that utility high for the cloak. These SHOULD be the mainline ships for W Space, it's where they come from and there's nothing more W Space than a horde of T3's appearing from nowhere, slamming something into oblivion then disappearing into the ether.

    Came into this utterly disagreeing with you on any buff of the proteus.
    Came out thinking that a small powergrid and capacitor buff would be nice for it. but nothing else
    Anything more and we go straight back to proteus online. and fuck that. we already have enough cancer with the loki
