  • Some half-elves in Faerûn have a racial trait in place of the Skill Versatility trait. If your DM allows it, your half-elf character can forgo Skill Versatility and instead take the elf trait Keen Senses or a trait based on your elf parentage.
    Drow Magic
    A half-elf of drow descent can forgo Skill Versatility and instead choose the drow’s Drow Magic:
    You know the dancing lights cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the faerie fire spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the darkness spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

      Can I ask where you got the Half-Drow image on the video thumbnail? Because there aren't that many to be found.

    Do they have to be edgy? The fact that a Drow hooked up with a human and didn't enslave or kill him kinda implies that the Drow in question was different than other Drows.

      Drow don't have to be edgy at all. Drow actually have a CG goddess and everything (Eilistraee, daughter of Lolth and Corellon Larrethian of the Elven pantheon)

      Enslaved humans can still give off genes or give birth.

      Our campaign features the Elistraee Drow rather prominently, with the PCs having allied with the Forest Temple (and Promenade) in Waterdeep against the BBEG, and trust me, those folks are not edgy at all.
      The Drow that worship Elistraee are joyful, love to dance, enjoy good food, are generous and generally embody freedom and kindness. Their godess wants to help her followers return to their elven kin and truly rejoin the world above, so they are taught to be lights in darkness and help to those who need it.
      My players are so used to nice Drow, that at this point I think if they ran across stereotypical edgy Lolth-Drow, they'd probably try to make friends. It's going to be hilarious...

      My half-drow had a...somewhat edgy origin story. Being born from an enslaved human father, and running afoul of driders, when he was little. However, after that, he was taken in by a gnome, and raised with love. The two enjoying an extreme form of hide & seek.

    I usually just lurk in your chanel, but wanted to break my silence to say that I really like your videos, and that they have helped me a lot to understand about the game and the details about the spells (and everything else if I'm being honest).
    I'm playing a spellcaster for the first time in a campaign and always use your videos to know what do my spells.

    I have a character who's technically a generic half elf but I think I'll flavour her as half drow because it's pretty fitting for a gloomstalker ranger and it'd also be funny because her older siblings are a half high elf cleric and a half wood elf fighter but if not half drow I'd say she's probably half wood elf

    Great to see you're back!! One point of constructive feedback - the last slide to your videos always has the "Use Code: Welcome for a free one shot" but it isn't always clear what this is in reference to. Would it be possible to include the URL to the guild hall on that final slide so newcomers to the channel have a better idea where to go? It might help direct more traffic to the guild hall. Wishing you all the best and it's so wonderful to see you're back! I love the revamped spell series you've been doing.

    I tried looking this up and I guess I'm blind. How would dispel magic react differently to those "trait" spells? they're still magic so shouldn't it react the same way?

    In a truly dark DMs game I have see Human slaves used to produce Half Drow as a foot soldier in planned wars do to the human aging not the 75 to 100 years needed for full blood Drow. Needless to say I was not with that group long.

    • @powerist209
      @powerist209 3 года назад +2

      I think Vault of the Drow had that implication.
      At least entire caste of workers being half-Drow and one of the solutions being staging a revolt.

  • @beastwarsFTW

    I had an idea for half-drow being basically the Yeoman of drow society.
    I made a half-drow paladin who acts like a hardened warrior but she's easily overloaded by surface stimuli and goes crazy when she tries surface world food for the fist time.

    The half elf stat lineup plus he spells without the sunlight sensitivity make half drows a go to for warlocks and rogues for me.
    For warlock it’s so nasty to have two easy extra sources of advantage and being able to have 18 cha with point buy at level 4 while still getting elven accuracy
    I love face arcane tricksters focusing on no save or no int needed spells and taking advantage of such a high cha for some 1/day encounter ruining

    Alright, it’s been 5 hours. Where’s this “pinned comment” with the other channel? I understand video production being halted by tech issues. But, going to all the trouble of producing, editing, and posting a video, then failing on a comment? That’s just confusing.

    Where do you find info about what each variant of half elf gets as a benefit like the drow magic here? Couldn't find anything in the PHB

    I think drow magic sounds good for a paladins, am I misunderstanding things there? 3 spells over time is cool, right?

    • @theargawalathing
      @theargawalathing 2 года назад +3

      It definitely has its benefits. For paladins, it's better to not have to sacrifice a fighting style for cantrips starting out, so any utility spellcasting or cantrips is never a bad thing as a martial. Just makes you more rounded
