Going to call back to another TPI video with my favorite Eli quote for that fourth D: 1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Descent angle 4. Do you see alignment concerns?
The fourth D is undoubtedly “Dartography”: The cooler, more confident cousin of cartography. When you have the other three D’s in order you start mapping out holes, much like you do with cartography. But instead of fear and irrationality controlling your thoughts, you have calmness and confidence in the driver’s seat. With Dartography you choose where you want to land your ball on each green and let the club do the rest. It’s basically automatic because the feeling of good golf is there all the time!
I am fortunate that I am one of their senior testers at this Facility in Oceanside. I see these fitters all the time and they treat all the clients like you are a VIP, fantastic staff and facility
Duffability: Get in the right sole, bounce, and grind with a TPI fitting because no one should feel inclined to carry their player's bag one-handed by the top handle after an approach shot, as exemplified by Eli's caddy on the 4th hole at River Bend during the 2022 final major. (6:42 timestamp in the third and fourth installment of your latest eighteen-part series).
Lenny - queue piercing trajectory music The fourth D is Density. Eli’s TSR3 Driver - “Denzel Man On Fire”. It calls to Eli, “I am your density”. Mike’s T150/200 blended iron set, “my density has brought me to you”. Yes, the fourth D is Density. A George McFly kind of density. DESTINY. Scratch. OFP=10.
The 4th D is Despacito. Not only is it fun to sing, and a way to keep you loose on the course, but it translates to "slowly" - reminding you to play a shot at a time, not get ahead of yourself, and slowly rain in birdies. Other key lyrics: - “Show me the path that I will take" (reading greens) - “you’re the magnet and I’m the metal" (ball to the hole) - “I am getting closer and making a plan" (course cartography) - “Simply thinking about it makes my heart race" (reaching scratch) - “I’m not in a rush I want to experience this trip” (the VI) - “Make me wanna savor every moment slowly” (enjoy every moment) It’s clearly a love song to golf, and can you even imagine the parody Mike could create? 1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Descent angle 4. Despacito Carl would approve.
JJ gives us the 3 Ds in this video, but what is the 4th D? My hunch was that it was already embedded into the Chasing Scratch canon much like a LOST easter egg or a burrowing tick in Eli's leg tattoo. Three days ago I spent an entire afternoon listening to the start of all 148 episodes on the Chasing Scratch feed and recorded the first D Word uttered in each episode. 53 times the first word was a version of the word "do," so removing those we are left with 55 unique words in the remaining 95 episodes. Yes, that's right, 55. A Full #DoubleNickel like '95 MJ. Here are the D Words that appeared first in multiple episodes: day (10 times), different (10), days (5), doctor (4), driving (3), driver (3), debate (2), done (2), decision (2), direct (2), decided (2), deux (2), and drive (2). (The 42 D Words that only appeared first in one episode: divorce, determined, divergence, differently, developments, decisions, determine, download, debacle, database, damper, dead, dreams, dictionary, daily, desperate, Diego, double, decathlon, drop, descending, dynamite, district, dreamed, deficit, designs, disheveled, delayed, dispute, definitely, describe, Dublin, doubted, delight, dickey, disciplined, dude, dinner, declare, daddy, donation, and deserves.) NOTE: To see all 55 of these words in a Word Cloud, visit TheFourthD.info. "Different" and "Day" lead the way, having each appeared 10 times as the first D Word of an episode, but only one of them has done it in all 6 seasons. That word? Different. Different was the first D Word in the S1 finale, which featured the most epic golf match ending ever. Different was the first D Word in S2, Ep 4, which brought us the start of AdamWay. Different was the first D Word in S3, Ep 3, in which Mike & Eli prepare to head west for a life-changing first time visit to Titleist. Different was the first D Word in S4, Ep 2 where Mike, Eli, and R.O.N. help secure the boys' first ever win as a team at Pinehurst. Different was the first D Word in S5, Ep 17, where Mike first proposed the idea of a Gauntlet. And finally, different was the first D Word in S6, Ep 31, where the boys start a Rogue Golf Trip to reconnect with their past on an old-fashioned golf trip. This podcast is different. This friendship is different. This community of listeners is different. And as a golf company, Titleist's products and people are different. But does it relate to the golf swing? It's perfect, actually. As JJ himself would tell you, every golf swing is different, which is why getting properly fitted for Titleist irons to fine tune that dispersion, distance, and descent angle is so important. The way I see it, there is no other option. Like the decision to get "feelsy" during The Antle, this one is a no-brainer. Kudos to Craigers, Yeah to Neil, Attaboy to Gary, and the 4th D is Different.
I mean if this doesnt win i might stop listening. its so good im not even venturing into the contest. and whats more fitting for this podcast famuly than someone abandoning all resposibilty to write an unrequired thesis on what the 4th 'D' word is.
I also vote that Bryan wins this contest from this post, but feel like Titleist irons may have "too much bone meat" for his game. *On a side note can we refer to Mr. Allain as the Godfather of Chasing Scratch?
After watching this video and following for 6 seasons there is only 1 4th D that encompasses all that you are about , that word is Dedication. Dedication to the never ending pursuit of a dream for all of us golfers that follow you. Dedication to each avenue explored , no matter how far off the golfing landscape it may take you, apart from Eli’s soda habit . But most of all, the unwavering dedication and support you have from those closest to you , your wives , which is unmatched. What a lovely final part to this video, I had a tear in my eye. Infinity to the power of infinity kudos to them! LGLG
The 4th D is in plain site at the 0:38 mark. Doughnuts. I doughnut know if there is a more versatile golf term available. How many fairways did you miss? Doughnut. How many 3 putts? Doughnut. How do you warm up? I use a weighted Doughnut. What did you eat before you played today? I had a glazed doughnut. If you can't get that right, you can't serve doughnuts. What are you chasing? Double Doughnut 0.0! Keep up the good work and keep chasing those doughnuts!
1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Descent angle 4. Drago - The single-minded pursuit of your golfing goal (i.e. handicap, breaking 90,80, 70, a club championship, tournament golf wins, etc.) A Drago might cost you a Carl Weathers (i.e. huge loss along your journey as life gets in the way of your goal), but you keep pushing forward, learn, & challenge yourself. You learn more about yourself, your game, the people around you that make life important, and through continuous learning come out an improved person on the other side. Ideally with a much improved golf game too! And if you happen to listen to the Rocky IV soundtrack, it just might speed up the time it take you to defeat your Drago...Queue the Music "Living in America" "No Easy Way Out" "Eye of the Tiger"!
After watching the video, it is obvious to me that the 4th D is "Dedication". After listening to 6 years worth of your journey and watching a vow renewal of 20 years, I can see that it takes Dedication to achieve great things. Glad to see you guys dedicated to the journey, both in golf and to your partners.
DECIDUOUS. The type of tree you will no longer be punch cutting out of in desperation. The type of trees you carry blind at Tobacco Road to eagle, setting up what can only be described as a full reset to a default dynamic duo ripping apart tournament play together. So many great memories of you two TOGETHER winning in your not so distant future. Enjoy the journey. I sure am just by listening to you guys!
“Dexterity” After an afternoon with JJ, Eli’s game is a blend of Carl Weathers' charisma, the precision of a Titleist, the buttery smooth style of Vuori joggers, and the nostalgia of '90s music. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Dexterity is Eli’s fourth “D”
I have to say, after 6 seasons the only other D word that makes sense to me is determination. You both have grown tremendously over the 6 seasons and even commented after the final major about your continued fight for scratch. More importantly the determination to not make it about score. Eli said (paraphrasing) " I know we can make it to scratch, but I don't even care about that". We all know what he meant. That's the 4th D, determination. Determined to improve, determined to not be distracted, determined to enjoy the process, to enjoy the ride, to enjoy the growth, determined to see yourselves as serious golfers. Determined to enjoy the moment, regardless of outcome! It has to be DETERMINATION.
The 4th D for me has got to be: Do the Dew. Not only as an ode to Eli’s former love for that sweet, citrusy, devilish beverage. But also because once you’re honed in on the first 3D’s, you have to buckle up and just ‘dew’ the darn thing. Full commitment, with trust in your club and swing. It’s really an exclamation point on achieving the 3Ds.
I don't know how you guys are going to pick just one answer, there are so many good ones. So amazing how far you've come as golfers (giving us all inspiration that it can be done!) and also as podcasters and community builders. Kudos to you! The 4th D stands for "Dudes, whether you get to scratch or not (and of course you will), you've already won."
Big kudos to the wives for letting them play, record, share. Sometimes it makes my day to listen to these guys struggle. As an average golfer, I've learned a few things over the past several years...but none...none of this would happen, if not for the wives allowing it to happen. We all know it. Thank you!
Going a different route with Devoted. The golf stuff was great, but the last 3 minutes were awesome. A dynamic display of dependability and desire. Showing appreciation for one’s better half is never overrated. But also Doghouse because I watched with my wife and got a look like how come you can’t do that 😂
Clearly it can only be Da-show. Encompassing everything you have done up until now being released in the form of your best competitive rounds together ever. Ladies ang gentlemen in Eli’s best southern accent, I give you all Da-Show!!
The fourth D is absolutely Deuteronomy Eli with his absolutely Biblical driver shots and Mike’s wedge play that stick like locusts during the plague 😂❤
The 4th D is certainly for Deathblow - When someone (JJ) tries to tighten your dispersion, not because of who you are, but because of different reasons altogether
The 4th D comes from an inspiration on one key area for the two of you... Your love of food. Dispersion, Distance, Descent and... Delectable! The delicious combination of the 3 D's, creates the 4th D... A delectable golf shot, mouth watering rounds of golf and inevitably... scratch! Lenny... cue the piercing trajectory music!
1. Tighter Dispersion 2. Consistent Distance 3. Steeper Descent Angle 4. The DMX Affect - the DMX affect relates to general club confidence It operates on a scale of “y’all gon’ make me lose my mind!”all the way up to uncontrollable barking This scale is measured at contact the internal natural desire to growl either out of toughness or anger based on trajectory. Information and Data accumulated by the study is published by the School of Hard Knocks
The Four D's: 1. Tighter DISPERSION 2. Consistent DISTANCE 3. Steeper DESCENT ANGLE (>45 Degrees) 4. Foster DEPENDENCE... on JJ, on Titleist.. on those sweet, sweet buttery Vuori joggers...
The only option for the fourth D is Dwayne. It provides many options with two options either the club makes you feel as jacked as Dwayne Johnson or after you hit the club instead of saying hey Wayne after seeing Wayne and Garth’s hockey skills you walk directly into your cart after saying hey Dwayne! After you hit a beautiful falcon of a shot
What a perfect production to be released exactly on my ten year wedding anniversary. Watching this film has been the single greatest experience of my adult life. Disappointment (4th D) is exactly what my wife and kids will feel when they read this comment.
1. Tighter Dispersion 2. Consistent Distance 3. Steeper Descent angle 4. Club Twirl Decadence I’m right in Phoenix, so I can even come out and get fitted for these new irons…no trouble at all!😁😎
In honor of "Tricky" (trick question) JJ, the 4th D is 'Demonstration' - put on a demonstration of the first 3 D's for all to see. And 'Demonstrate' to others why T Series Irons are the best way to your best golf. Also for consideration: 'Done' = be done Chasing and start playing... at Scratch. Integration of Titleist Re-Vowed celebration was so next level. Keep it up the good work Boys!!
4th D: Discombobulated Mike and Eli always have a discombobulated expression when going to Titleist, demonstrated by a casual yet borderline excessive use of the word “yeah” whenever JJ uses technical jargon B was pleasantly discombobulated by the surprise renewal of your vows (which was beautiful by the way) I was discombobulated upon learning Eli had been microwaving bacon all these years Future tense: Titleist irons discombobulated my handicap, which if it could have human feelings and thoughts, would be wildly alarmed at the rate my handicap was dropping thanks to a new gleaming set of t200s
The 4th D is Dynamics. Distance, dispersion, decent angle, and dynamics. Meaning how can you use the clubs in dynamic situations. Off differences lies. In different winds. Under pressure. You guys have created an amazing gathering for us. Exciting to wrestle the handicap down alongside you guys. LFG!!!
4th D is ‘DaBest’. Following the journey of these two has brought me nothing but joy. I didn’t realize how invested I’d become until I found myself looking like Kevin from Home Alone with my hands on my face listening to Eli miss that wedge, and then nearly hole the putt to shoot even on the last episode. Awesome show by what seem to be an awesome couple of guys. Don’t know if it fits the criteria, but it gave me an excuse to give some kudos to you guys 😊
Distance Dispersion Descent Angle Doubt is my 4th “D” because I believe that myself, other listeners, even Mike and Eli would say we doubted this journey would get to the point of Titleist sponsorships and trips to TPI. Doubt has been at the center of this show from the beginning, Mike and Eli have continued to doubt their ability to catch scratch, not this year. This year is about arriving and understanding all the work has payed off and there is no doubt that your goal is within reach. While the handicap doesn’t reflect it you boys are inches away from scratch. In the video JJ gets the irons dialed consistent distance, dispersion, and descent angles. Let this also be the moment that doubt is eliminated from your golf game. So pumped to listen to the final major and thanks guys for the great show. LGLG
4th D is Dedicated. This video tells me a few things. 1. JJ is clearly dedicated to making you both better players. He won't accept anything but the best equipment for you. 2. Season 6 as a whole told me you both are dedicated to long term improvement and not just short term wins. 3. The end of this video tells me that the mission hasn't changed since day one, and you guys are both extremely dedicated to your home life. Family comes first, golf comes after that. You guys both clearly display how much you care about your kids and your spouses, and I hugely appreciate that you take the time to show that. Golf is often thought of something that divides marriages. Kudos to you for showing that it doesn't have to be that way. Season 6 isn't quite done and I already can't wait for season 7. LGLG
- Tight Dispersion - Consistent Distance - Steep Decent - Throwing DIMES on the course, good night! Love you guys, thanks for the content. Congrats on 20 years, Mike
The 4th D is detachment. As in, detachment from the (ultimately unfounded) doubts about the driver-wedge line over the trees on 13 at Tobacco Road. Or, enough detachment from reality to start a podcast about getting to 0.0 in under a year. Or, more helpfully, detachment from results-oriented striving that gets in the way of our best golf. Love the show! LGLG!
The fourth D is Divination. I have seen it told in the scriptures. This D represents the ability to foresee exactly what the ball will do upon landing. Many actually play with this attribute, which is why so many shout “get in the hole” milliseconds after a swing. Unfortunately, the large majority have not been properly fitted, which is why the ball often lands 150 yards away from the the hole. While I am a practitioner of this school of augury, I also have yet to be fitted. But, as I looked upon the archaic texts, I had a vision of this tribulation coming to end on November 9th, 2023. On this day, on my 34th birthday, I will play my final round with the 1998 Tommy Armour 845s my father bequeathed upon me to break down the barrier having never played golf, similar to how my birth broke down the Berlin Wall. I will pass down these clubs to my 16 month old son, as his current set is mainly sticks and he mainly just puts the ball in his mouth. It has been foretold. Also love the show.
Taking a different approach - the 4th might be "Divot". One of the main things I look for in my irons is turf interaction and the sole of a club can make or break an entire head shape for me. Or, the importance of taking proper divots put a different way... Diligent Divot Discipline Directly Determines the Delicate Dance of a golfer's club through the Dynamic Domain of turf, Demanding Deft Decision-Making and ultimately Delivering Desirable Distance and Direction.
The fourth D is for Deflation. It’s a beautiful day for golf, you have put in the work at the range, you had a great warmup, you are even par after four and life is rainbows and unicorns. And then you go double-double-double and reality sets in. We have all lived through multiple deflations with Mike and Eli, with the high-pitched voice, and in our own rounds when we realize that today is not the day we are setting a personal best, breaking 80, or even recording a score that will be used in your top eight.
1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Decent Angle 4. Deliver You’ve put in the work, you’ve got the irons, now it’s time to go and deliver and if that’s not enough here’s a motivational haiku. On River Bend's turf, Deliver, my trusty iron, This ball, to the green.
1. tighter Dispersion 2. consistent Distance 3. steeper Descent angle 4. dramatic Divots - the fairway is our canvas, and the divot reveals the secrets of our lives, every shot unveiling a piece of the story of our lives. The divot should show how you cook your bacon and if you have low C. Eddie, Lexington KY, Go Cats (Edit to add my name)
1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Descent Angle 4. Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive & Dodge! If you can dodge a wrench, you can certainly dodge a flip flop archaically peppered at a chalkboard!
1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Descent angle 4. Durability -- clubs, like with life partners, should be durable and dependable and instill confidence in yourself
Long time listener. First time commenter. Not trying to throw any shade but have to keep it strait Holes 1-17 D’s of golf are dispersion, distance, descent angle and the 4th D is destiny as these guys are one under through 17 and destined to be scratch golfers. Hole 18 - Ds of golf turn into duck hook, duff, dink, dreaded three putt, and double bogey to finish for a 1 over round. All jokes aside, best of luck guys.
The fourth D is Divine. That lineup up of irons is simply divine. It is incredible how far you guys have come. I have enjoyed the last 6 seasons immensely.
Dispersion Distance Decent Disposition 1) a person's inherent qualities of mind and character (pre shot routine, accept outcome) 2) the way in which something is placed or arranged, especially in relation to other things. (As in how the ball is arranged) 3) archaic definition(!): the determination of events by divine power.
1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Decent Angle 4. Diamonds - when you’re on your 2nd set of clubs in 3 years, this is the best golf equipment integration plan money can buy
Adding my fourth D into the mix. Thought long and hard about this one. The unique glossary for the Chasing Scratch pod is extensive, built over six seasons. It includes things like "The Palmeiro," The Carl Weathers Learning Center, peppered, "Hey Wayne," "Hoop Snake" and so many more. So here is my D for consideration. It targets the soul of the show and all the mental game work you've done and carries on a grand tradition of creating a rich lexicon of words and phrases adopted for the pod and assigned new meanings. 1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Descent angle 4. Denzeled = As in this quote from "Remember the Titans": "I'm a winner. I'm going to win." Every fitting process needs to address both the swing and the mindset. I think Dr. J would agree. Denzeled is the fourth D.
4th D has to be the Diaphragms Downward Diagonal Drive During the Downswing. JJ could easily integrate that Delivery on tour. Kudos to Mike and Eli, for inspiring us all to keep improving.
Dispersion, Distance, Descent, DA BOMB! What inspires more confidence (or fear in opponents) than the three red lines of the greatest NFL Blitz play of all time. Flip the play to change the ball flight, Voila!
D - tighter dispersion D - consistent distance D - steeper descent angle D - line of demarcation - a distinct line drawn between who you were before as a golfer and who you are now after being correctly diagnosed and fit into new Titleist equipment. A line to mark the ownership in that future you and the dream of scratch that’s waiting. So is there four d’s? Or is dream the fifth one, too.
1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Descent 4. Deliciousness mmmmm *Ted Lasso & Eli combo voices* 5. Dispersion The 5 D’s of Titleist. If silent D’s are eligible - Django; since your games are unchained. #4thD #LGLG Also congrats Mike on 20 years, epic “renewal of your wife”! We just hit 4 so y’all are 500% better than us that’s just math.
The Fourth D has to be dacnomania. The word means means obsession with killing. With the new titleist gear you guys are gonna be on the hunt to kill every golf course you see, destroying course records hopefully. You will be out there destroying the completion no matter where you go and continuing to bring the show everywhere you walk. LGLG
The fourth D is doppelgänger. After 6 years of chasing scratch, I think its time you just go find your golfing look-alikes who are already scratch. Of course, just kidding, absolutely love you guys and have been listening to your great journey since the start. Kudos to JJ for not laughing when Eli pretended to have heard of the first 3 Ds when we all knew he did not.
I’m going with Dance-Floor. When talking about decent, distance, and direction all those are at the forefront of the design for the T-series irons so they get you to the dance floor and get more greens in regulation.
Dispersion, Descent, and Distance. The 4th has to be, as the kids say, Drip. You look good, you feel good, you play good. Kudos FJ and Titleist for the fit and solid drip
I am going to go with "Deliberate". It seems a HUGE theme lately has been about being deliberate in focus, in practice, in mental preparation. Deliberate in practice, in the pre-shot routine. Deliberate in how you speak positively about one self. Deliberate in anger (frustration) management. Lastly deliberate in your overall preperation, hydration, calories, thoughts, shot to take and when you are turning on system 1 or system 2 thinking. Deliberate
The 4th ‘D’ is destiny (a predetermined course of events often held to be an irresistible power or agency). After all of the preparation you’ve taken after stepping over the ball once you unload on that ball, it’s destined to do whatever the golf gods want your ball to do and you must accept it.
A big part of finding the perfect clubs is feel and looks so how about 'dishy' (or drop dead gorgeous) which these clubs certainly are. Great videos / podcast lads and congratulations on your huge improvements this year. You'll get there LGLG 👊
The 4th D is for DORSAL. As the Dorsal fin for the great white shark provides stability in its grandeur. Without our DORSAL in golf we will never be able to strive for the same level of greatness in defeating our polar bear... Chasing Scratch.
Descent, Dispersion, Distance, Oddly enough JJ did talk about another D in relation to how tour player find their club and that was Direction! Direction obviously plays a strong role because if you have a tiny Dispersion but 30 yards left your still unhappy. JJ use it next season with your tour player. I take no credit since well you are the expert and mentioned it
I think I can help with the four d’s thing. Kinda like pan/pam/pamdd thing, Deez irons provide the synergy needed to tackle the most demanding aspects of golf. By combining dispersion, distance, and descent angle, one is able to deploy an effective strategy in the most fierce games of wolf (where the wolf goes last) in able to gain a financial advantage over thy foe. Thereby allowing one to succeed in not only wolf but the complex construct of one’s being and the ecosystem of golf as a whole that has polar bears and great white sharks battling to get to the 1% of golf’s pinnacle of scratch.
DATE IMPLIED-the 4th D had to be a Seinfeld reference, so I’m taking “Date Implied” from Episode 50, “The Virgin”. That goes not only for the two of you having your scheduled majors each year and other trips together, but at the end of the video we reminded just how happily married and devoted to your spouses you both are. In all facets of your lives: love, golf, podcasting, you’re firmly in “Date Implied” situations-and you’re better for it. Count yourselves blessed to have such a tightly knit circle of friends and family. Congratulations, guys, on a great season.
1. Dispersion 2. Distance 3. Descent Angle 4. Deangelo Vickers - when you've hit a poor shot and feeling down take a deep breath and think of his inspirational juggling routine and get back in the right headspace. LGLG
So many good 4th D's here. Since listening to the episode at tobacco road, my confidence (some might say arrogance) has increased tenfold. If i saw my 86 year old grandma right now i would ask her if she is ready for the SHOW. I have no earthly idea in that context what the show would be, but Mike and Eli gave me the confidence to compete in all areas of daily life. So i leave you with my 4th day. "Delve into the show"
The fourth “D” … dialed-in. Watching Mike and Eli looking comfortable, showing consistency, and putting on these stripe shows are indicators that they are truly dialed-in and in due time* will cross that scratch threshold. *that’s another fourth “D” … 4D … time, the fourth dimension.
4th D - Delusion that the show will end because Mike and Eli made it to scratch. Thankfully we hope it never ends because we all look forward to the weekly pod!
Fourth D has to be didactic. Through the years of chasing scratch, teaching and learning have been paramount in all you guys do and accomplish. Your listeners have been entertained over and over again but we've all learned something from you guys just like you guys learn something every time you visit TPI. Keep it up and fight hard
The 4th D is Dream. We all do it at night, during the day, when boring people are talking, and when our ball is in mid-flight. Mike and Eli - you do it better than most of us ever dreamed of. My adult son and I have a blast living vicariously through you! #LGLG #Mmmmmmmmmmm #Bacon #Butter #DramaticReading #PunchCut #Peppered #Dream0.0
"You guys just blow my mind"... Love your videos. Come to Iceland for a trip, I'll play golf with you and guide you. You could play the midnight golf competition, starts around 1 am and played through the night 👌🏌️...
Patches: “If you want to learn to be truuuuue golfballers, then you’ve got to learn the four D’s of golfball! Dispersion, Distance, Descent, and Dispersion.” Eli: *looks confused* Patches: “If you master the four D’s then no amount of duck hooks on earth can plague you.” Mike: “Shouldn’t we learn by like, hitting balls or…” Patches: “That’s what this bottle of archaic pepper is for.” Patches: *extracts a small vial from his trousers and hands Mike a wedge* Patches: “If you can control your distance with this in your nasal cavity, you can do it on the course.” With unnerving speed, Patches shoves the vial up into Mike’s left nostril and squeezes. Mike spasms violently, his arms flail, his eyes burn, he lashes out - Eli attempts to come to his aid but backs off when the gap wedge nearly misses his cheekbone. Mike eventually stumbles towards the Trackman where a pristine Pro-V1 is already setup. Patches (yelling): “114 Yards!” Mike can barely see the ball through his watering eyes. He draws the wedge back - and stripes one - exactly 114 yards in the air. Patches: “Any other questions?”
4th D has to be dialled in after watching that video! It was great to see JJ work on tightening up the 3 D's to get you both dialled in with your new irons
There's a lot of good explanations to what fourth D should be but I myself choose to believe it's Dignity. Dignity as in finding the correct level of help from the club design for the golfers worthiness. The golfers ego has to match the club selection by asking the simple but at the same time difficult question of "is this bellow my dignity to hit this club?"
You know, I was really enjoying that - but the surprise at the end was a joy and brought a tear to the eye that I have - well done you (two/four) !!! 😁❤️
i love how they have perfected the “yeah” when jj talks when they have no idea what he’s talking about 😂
Going to call back to another TPI video with my favorite Eli quote for that fourth D:
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent angle
4. Do you see alignment concerns?
The fourth D is “Dead in the water” and it describes the shark that just tried to fight a polar bear.
Dodge - because if you can dodge a hosel you can pepper a ball.
Awesome work as always! LGLG!
Lenny - queue piercing trajectory music
The fourth D is Density.
Eli’s TSR3 Driver - “Denzel Man On Fire”.
It calls to Eli, “I am your density”.
Mike’s T150/200 blended iron set, “my density has brought me to you”.
Yes, the fourth D is Density.
A George McFly kind of density.
DESTINY.
Scratch.
OFP=10.
The 4th D is Despacito. Not only is it fun to sing, and a way to keep you loose on the course, but it translates to "slowly" - reminding you to play a shot at a time, not get ahead of yourself, and slowly rain in birdies. Other key lyrics:
- “Show me the path that I will take" (reading greens)
- “you’re the magnet and I’m the metal" (ball to the hole)
- “I am getting closer and making a plan" (course cartography)
- “Simply thinking about it makes my heart race" (reaching scratch)
- “I’m not in a rush I want to experience this trip” (the VI)
- “Make me wanna savor every moment slowly” (enjoy every moment)
It’s clearly a love song to golf, and can you even imagine the parody Mike could create?
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent angle
4. Despacito
Carl would approve.
(The 42 D Words that only appeared first in one episode: divorce, determined, divergence, differently, developments, decisions, determine, download, debacle, database, damper, dead, dreams, dictionary, daily, desperate, Diego, double, decathlon, drop, descending, dynamite, district, dreamed, deficit, designs, disheveled, delayed, dispute, definitely, describe, Dublin, doubted, delight, dickey, disciplined, dude, dinner, declare, daddy, donation, and deserves.)
NOTE: To see all 55 of these words in a Word Cloud, visit TheFourthD.info.
No wonder there hasn’t been a new Bag Chatter pod in the last couple weeks. Bryan has been busy af.
The first shank with your new T-Series irons is going to hit different, my friend. This has to be the winner
Jesus christ
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent angle
4. Disgust (the feeling emerging within you're opponent when the above three are dialed)
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent angle
4. Drago - The single-minded pursuit of your golfing goal (i.e. handicap, breaking 90,80, 70, a club championship, tournament golf wins, etc.)
A Drago might cost you a Carl Weathers (i.e. huge loss along your journey as life gets in the way of your goal), but you keep pushing forward, learn, & challenge yourself.
Great video Guys
1 Dispersion
2 Distance
3 Descent
4 DAMMIT!!!!
“Dexterity”
After an afternoon with JJ, Eli’s game is a blend of Carl Weathers' charisma, the precision of a Titleist, the buttery smooth style of Vuori joggers, and the nostalgia of '90s music. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Dexterity is Eli’s fourth “D”
The fourth D is absolutely Deuteronomy
Eli with his absolutely Biblical driver shots and Mike’s wedge play that stick like locusts during the plague 😂❤
The 4th D is certainly for Deathblow - When someone (JJ) tries to tighten your dispersion, not because of who you are, but because of different reasons altogether
Love the podcast guys. Starts listening 3 months ago and am on season 5. Looking forward to getting up to date. LG LG.
1. Tighter Dispersion
2. Consistent Distance
3. Steeper Descent Angle
4. The DMX Affect - the DMX affect relates to general club confidence
It operates on a scale of
“y’all gon’ make me lose my mind!”all the way up to uncontrollable barking
This scale is measured at contact the internal natural desire to growl either out of toughness or anger based on trajectory.
Information and Data accumulated by the study is published by the School of Hard Knocks
The Four D's:
1. Tighter DISPERSION
2. Consistent DISTANCE
3. Steeper DESCENT ANGLE (>45 Degrees)
4. Foster DEPENDENCE... on JJ, on Titleist.. on those sweet, sweet buttery Vuori joggers...
Depends- the protective undergarments you will be wearing to save your Viori from embarrassing stains before making it to scratch.
1. Tighter Dispersion
2. Consistent Distance
3. Steeper Descent angle
4. Club Twirl Decadence
I’m right in Phoenix, so I can even come out and get fitted for these new irons…no trouble at all!😁😎
In honor of "Tricky" (trick question) JJ, the 4th D is 'Demonstration' - put on a demonstration of the first 3 D's for all to see. And 'Demonstrate' to others why T Series Irons are the best way to your best golf.
Also for consideration: 'Done' = be done Chasing and start playing... at Scratch.
Integration of Titleist Re-Vowed celebration was so next level.
Keep it up the good work Boys!!
4th D: Discombobulated
Mike and Eli always have a discombobulated expression when going to Titleist, demonstrated by a casual yet borderline excessive use of the word “yeah” whenever JJ uses technical jargon
B was pleasantly discombobulated by the surprise renewal of your vows (which was beautiful by the way)
I was discombobulated upon learning Eli had been microwaving bacon all these years
Future tense: Titleist irons discombobulated my handicap, which if it could have human feelings and thoughts, would be wildly alarmed at the rate my handicap was dropping thanks to a new gleaming set of t200s
The fourth D - Distractions, get rid of those mental distractions!
Distance
Dispersion
Descent Angle
Doubt is my 4th “D” because I believe that myself, other listeners, even Mike and Eli would say we doubted this journey would get to the point of Titleist sponsorships and trips to TPI.
LGLG
- Tight Dispersion
- Consistent Distance
- Steep Decent
- Throwing DIMES on the course, good night!
Love you guys, thanks for the content. Congrats on 20 years, Mike
Difference! Are they making a difference in your ball flight? Yes. Are they making a difference in your confidence? Hell yes!!
LGLG!
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent angle
4. Dodge, duck, dip, dive, dodge
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent angle
4. From Enter the Dragon, “Don’t think, feel”
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Decent Angle
4. Deliver
You’ve put in the work, you’ve got the irons, now it’s time to go and deliver and if that’s not enough here’s a motivational haiku.
On River Bend's turf,
Deliver, my trusty iron,
This ball, to the green.
1. tighter Dispersion
2. consistent Distance
3. steeper Descent angle
4. dramatic Divots - the fairway is our canvas, and the divot reveals the secrets of our lives, every shot unveiling a piece of the story of our lives. The divot should show how you cook your bacon and if you have low C.
Eddie, Lexington KY, Go Cats
(Edit to add my name)
4th D is Dominate (for the ages). Loving the quest, i know you’ll both get there! Play well ⛳️👍🏻
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent Angle
4. Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive & Dodge!
If you can dodge a wrench, you can certainly dodge a flip flop archaically peppered at a chalkboard!
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent angle
4. Durability -- clubs, like with life partners, should be durable and dependable and instill confidence in yourself
The 4th D is "dulcet." Meaning the sweet, melodious sound that is heard when striking the ball. Plus, it's just a fun word to say out loud.
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent Angle
4. DROPPIN' BOMBS
Long time listener. First time commenter.
Not trying to throw any shade but have to keep it strait
Holes 1-17 D’s of golf are dispersion, distance, descent angle and the 4th D is destiny as these guys are one under through 17 and destined to be scratch golfers.
The 4th D has to be Dialed In. You guys have worked so hard, it’s great to see you both so “dialed in” with your swing and your mental game.
Dispersion
Distance
Decent
Disposition
1) a person's inherent qualities of mind and character (pre shot routine, accept outcome)
2) the way in which something is placed or arranged, especially in relation to other things. (As in how the ball is arranged)
3) archaic definition(!): the determination of events by divine power.
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Decent Angle
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent angle
4. Denzeled = As in this quote from "Remember the Titans": "I'm a winner. I'm going to win."
Every fitting process needs to address both the swing and the mindset. I think Dr. J would agree. Denzeled is the fourth D.
4th D has to be the Diaphragms Downward Diagonal Drive During the Downswing.
JJ could easily integrate that Delivery on tour.
Kudos to Mike and Eli, for inspiring us all to keep improving.
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Decent Angle
4. Drive for show putt for dough!!
Dispersion, Distance, Descent, DA BOMB!
What inspires more confidence (or fear in opponents) than the three red lines of the greatest NFL Blitz play of all time.
Flip the play to change the ball flight, Voila!
D - tighter dispersion
D - consistent distance
D - steeper descent angle
D - line of demarcation - a distinct line drawn between who you were before as a golfer and who you are now after being correctly diagnosed and fit into new Titleist equipment. A line to mark the ownership in that future you and the dream of scratch that’s waiting. So is there four d’s? Or is dream the fifth one, too.
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent
4. Deliciousness mmmmm *Ted Lasso & Eli combo voices*
5. Dispersion
The 5 D’s of Titleist.
If silent D’s are eligible - Django; since your games are unchained.
#4thD #LGLG
Also congrats Mike on 20 years, epic “renewal of your wife”! We just hit 4 so y’all are 500% better than us that’s just math.
Dispersion, Distance, Descent Angle, Dulce & Gabbana; JJ’s fragrance of choice before each round
that last bit just got you another decade of question-free golf from the lady 😂 congrats! 🎉
Enhanced DALTONING - the act of striking something with incredible precision, force, and handsomeness
When is the announcement??????
A big part of finding the perfect clubs is feel and looks so how about 'dishy' (or drop dead gorgeous) which these clubs certainly are. Great videos / podcast lads and congratulations on your huge improvements this year. You'll get there LGLG 👊
Dew Point. Because a wet 79 is a dry 68.
The 4th D is for DORSAL.
As the Dorsal fin for the great white shark provides stability in its grandeur. Without our DORSAL in golf we will never be able to strive for the same level of greatness in defeating our polar bear... Chasing Scratch.
1.Dispersion
2.Distance
3.Decent angle
4.Deebo Friday.
Come on Smoke! You know this off season can’t handle all this training smoke!
Descent,
Dispersion,
Distance,
Oddly enough JJ did talk about another D in relation to how tour player find their club and that was Direction!
Direction obviously plays a strong role because if you have a tiny Dispersion but 30 yards left your still unhappy.
JJ use it next season with your tour player. I take no credit since well you are the expert and mentioned it
I think I can help with the four d’s thing. Kinda like pan/pam/pamdd thing,
Deez irons provide the synergy needed to tackle the most demanding aspects of golf.
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent Angle
4. Deangelo Vickers -
when you've hit a poor shot and feeling down take a deep breath and think of his inspirational juggling routine and get back in the right headspace.
The 4th D- Devoted, as golfers and family men. Kuddos as always 👏🏼 #bepeace
4th D - Dancefloor. This is where you'll be after nailing the first 3 D's! #LGLG
Fourth D has to be didactic. Through the years of chasing scratch, teaching and learning have been paramount in all you guys do and accomplish. Your listeners have been entertained over and over again but we've all learned something from you guys just like you guys learn something every time you visit TPI. Keep it up and fight hard
1. Dispersion
2. Distance
3. Descent angle
4. Diesel with a capital D
As always another Banger. I’m going with Dill, for the Pickle king of Chicago….. Mr Aaron Dill. What a great surprise and great trip fellas
Dispersion, Distance, Descent, and Dispersion.”
Eli: *looks confused*
Patches: “If you master the four D’s then no amount of duck hooks on earth can plague you.”
Mike: “Shouldn’t we learn by like, hitting balls or…”
Patches: “That’s what this bottle of archaic pepper is for.”
Patches: *extracts a small vial from his trousers and hands Mike a wedge*
Patches: “If you can control your distance with this in your nasal cavity, you can do it on the course.”
With unnerving speed, Patches shoves the vial up into Mike’s left nostril and squeezes. Mike spasms violently, his arms flail, his eyes burn, he lashes out - Eli attempts to come to his aid but backs off when the gap wedge nearly misses his cheekbone.
Mike eventually stumbles towards the Trackman where a pristine Pro-V1 is already setup.
Patches (yelling): “114 Yards!”
Mike can barely see the ball through his watering eyes. He draws the wedge back - and stripes one - exactly 114 yards in the air.
Patches: “Any other questions?”
4th D has to be dialled in after watching that video! It was great to see JJ work on tightening up the 3 D's to get you both dialled in with your new irons
"Mulva? Gipple? Loreola?!"
"DOLORES"
There's a lot of good explanations to what fourth D should be but I myself choose to believe it's Dignity. Dignity as in finding the correct level of help from the club design for the golfers worthiness. The golfers ego has to match the club selection by asking the simple but at the same time difficult question of "is this bellow my dignity to hit this club?"
You know, I was really enjoying that - but the surprise at the end was a joy and brought a tear to the eye that I have - well done you (two/four) !!! 😁❤️
