IM STILL WAITING FOR MY CUT BUDDEY. HAVE YOU SENT IT BY PIGEN . 🤣🤣🤣🤣 . HOPE ALL IS WELL DAN .
A "Skor interrupt" is a brain saying "Hey, where is our chocolate ?"
Diagnose Dan doesn't get fooled, DD just teases the car a little before he finds the problem.
🤣🤣
I am retired automotive technology teacher, always told my students to cross reference dedicated vs global data, and at the same time have
a lab scope looking at the live signal as an extra step.
Great video.
Bet you were an amazing teacher with lucky students👍👍👍
@@Diagnosedan Thank you for the reply. Lots of success stories, thank you. I had good teachers and mentors, including a retired engineer from Renault Formula 1 engine specialist many years ago.
@@rodvan-zeller6360 one, check freeze frame data before clearing the code. throwing away useful information is never a good thing. two, skipping the step of knowing what values to expect from the sensor.
in your experience, will the p0102 set at 0 rpm? comprehensive component test.
unplugging will often only set the IAT circuit code, even engine running.
my takeaway was the decision fork between pinpoint testing the raw signal, and looking at other potential causes. under reporting airflow versus signal absence.
Sir is there a canbud lock you can apply to stop canbus thefts?
@@mkuehn5450 Along with freeze frame data, record mode 6 data before clearing codes, mode 6 data is not accurate until monitors run. Also, use mode 6 data to verify repair improvement and as a warning of how close something is to failing.
By the way the $ sign on mode six stands for hexadecimal in case you were not aware.
Watched the vid as soon as it popped up. When in doubt go generic!! I always learn a lot from DD!! When they bring them low on gas, they pay 30 bucks for 10 bucks worth of gas. I think the beer idea is better
Lets stick with the beer Bill🤣 Great having you here!
I remember when I first learned the substitute value from Scanner Danner years ago, he was saying don't trust live data just check sensor output. Great video as always 👍
He's right👍
The best teacher , I support you from drc 🇨🇩 in Africa
🛠️👍😎
Thanks Jimmy
Really good to see you back dan😊 it has always amazed me how many people drive around with just enough gas in their car to keep it running not realizing what it's doing to their fuel pump. And these are the same people who never ck their oil😮
Fantastic Dan. You have a wealth of knowledge, great videos. Thanks very much
Its a pleasure Joey!
Love your show. You are a very good tech and I don't easily say this to many people. I would have never guessed that "live data" may have been substituted to keep the engine running. Good find!
Thanks!
I dont have a Hyundai, nor such awesome diagnose tools, but I loved this video. Great explanation and issue tracking. As a software developer I can relate to such testing methods.
Its an honor coming from a person like you! Thanks
I don't believe my eyes: Something other than a German car having a diagnostic mystery. Amazing!
Thank you!
I worked on my neighbours car last week, and he also had a bad MAF Sensor too. After a few days, the EML came back on, and as it turns out, he also had a vacuum leak downstream.
There are alot of things that can influence the maf signal so stay sharp 😉
I had this exact situation happen to me aswell. the same brand and model car. This shows you to always to double check your own measuring tools, even though you think you're sure about the measurements.
great work and greetings from Zoetermeer!
Bedankt Rob👍
Learned and learning from you sir
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
good job, this is why several different scan tools are needed to verify some faults. and keep your sanity!

Dan I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets cars with the low fuel light on ,we put fuel in and bill the customer great work mate love the bloopers 👍🦘🇦🇺
We go to the bar and Bill the customer 🤣🤣 thanks for watching!
@@Diagnosedan I think that's a much better idea lol
Excellent diog work!!! 👍🏼
Thanks!
Great point Dan. Substituted values can fool you. Always look on the generic side to confirm. Keep the video's coming bud. 👍👍👍👍
I will thanks!
What was the fix thank you for your great videos
The generic mode of the scan tool made you to be sure of what is actually going on. The scope test is actually relevant because you are no longer relying on what the ecm is showing you but what the sensor is giving to you.
I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work.
Thanks David
Great results cheers from NEW ZEALAND
Thank you!
Generic is very useful. Today on a 1998 BMW I could not see fuel trims with our autel. Lots of PIDS i could see but nothing helpful for a simple mixture diag. Well, switched to generic and bam I got o2 voltages and trims.
I do the same👍
I think this is great info. Why is the OE data giving you misleading data over the generic data though?
Nice fix Dan. Thanks for sharing. Have a good one, Nico
Thank you Nico😁👍
Great job DD, I was working on a Nissan Primera with MAF fault codes that was running rough with black ⚫️ smoke from the tail pipe, watched live data on my Xtool D8BT and it was giving me the same positive readings on my scan tool. After watching this video I will always disconnect the MAF and recheck for false readings. Please let me know how to switch onto generic mode on my scan tool for more accurate reading in the future. Thanks
Just use OBD2 instead of manufacturer.
Don't select a car but select obd2
Yaaa. Need to get that beers. Had myself those "nonstarters" because of "fool's panic". Keep it up!
Drinking beer is always a plan😂
Good job Sir.
Thanks!
Literally had the same issue two-days ago with a nissan juke, live data was good but sensor was bad on scope.
So i'm not the only one 😂
The Best ! Dan, Thank You
Thank you
Awesome video 👌 Super 🆒️ 👌
Awesome Dan did it again 💪👏 👍 Thanks a million for sharing 👍
Greetings from Ireland ✌❤☘
Thank you!
Great diagnosis as always!
😁👍
Hey Dan, I did enjoy this episode. Nicely done ! Interesting to see how live data is not so live sometimes. Back to the basics before getting out the parts canon, good reminder :)
Take care.
Stay sharp😉
Dan the man does it again. od bless you. Dan have you done any videos on canbus car theft and how to stop theives stealing the car in 44 secs?
No i have not
I love your channel! Keep up the great videos. The comment about lots of beer making up for the awful customer behaviour with the no gas thing was hilarious! Lol thanks for a good laugh and a good video
Thanks for your kind message Alex👍
Yeah. I was definitely tricked too at first!..😂
But Diagnose Dan fix it Again!
😁😁👍
Master technician Dan thanks for share your knowledge
You are welcome
Could it be a scan tool failure? Reporting the calculated value as live?
Excellent !!!! *****❤
😁👍
Good old substituted values. Good job we were all diagnosing this one together Dan 😂
🤣🤣👍
Thank you
😁👍
Brilliant! As usual... 🙂
Thank you
Thanks!
You are welcome 😁👍
Cheers Dan for another interesting and informative video 👍
And thank you for your comment, thats really appreciated
I think OBD II or generic mode is required to report the raw values. So start there first.
Thanks for the comment!
Another interesting fix, Dan.
Thanks for watching
Is it probably using the MAP sensor data as a fallback when the MAF is considered faulty and that's what you've seen or is it always reporting the MAP readings instead of the MAF?
As usual, professional, my friend
Thank you
Thx for sharing
Its a pleasure
Great indepth video Dan , so many people don't understand the benefits from using a scope to see real live data , it would be great if customers would accept that it needs doing to definitely give correct diagnosis , even when their friend from the pub who used to fix cars in the 70's told them something else is wrong and they accept his larger 🍺, diagnosis because he is a nice guy , I say well if you want his diagnosis doing it will be X £ , but if you want it right it will be Y£ , don't you love it when they drop the car off and the fuel computer says 6 miles fuel left , then you change the fuel filter , and it won't start 🥊🤬
They only bring the car in with a full fuel tank when the fuel tank needs to be removed😂
@@Diagnosedan oh yes , have seen that a time ir two at least 😁🤣😅🙃🤣
Great info here
😁👍
I’d just replace the sensor and go from there 😂 and be done with it just because I don’t have the knowledge or tools like you have! Hopefully one day!
🤣🤣 you would have fixed it this time😂
The very first thing I would have checked is the generic data.
....
Nah, not really! Well done.
😂
So easy, even one of the best mechanics in the world can change it 😆
🤣🤣👍
thanks
😁💪
You recomend this topdon diagnostic tool? It's looke like launch tool
Yes it's simular
SERVICE MAN: So sir, we have replaced your MAF sensor
CUSTOMER: Is the car fixed now ?
SERVICE MAN: Unfortunatelly, MIL is still present
CUSTOMER: So what would be next step ? Was the MAF sensor faulty if the car is not fixed ?
SERVICE MAN: I´m not happy to say it, but ilt looks like your ECU is faulty. And yes, MAF sensor was faulty, it had to be replaced anyway. New ECU is very expensive, i dont think you want to have it replaced, so you can pick up your car, its 200 for MAF and 100 for labor.
Another great example of the saying 1 dollar for screw, 100 for knowing which to replace :D
Thank you Dan for keeping up great work and educating all mechanics around the globe ! 😊
Thanks for your great comment 👍👍👍
Got to be careful 👍👍👍
😁👍
Correct ... tell them off about the low Fuel!
It might even be old Petrol which is past its best ...
The car is driven daily so i guess the fuel is not old
Bring the man his beer
Sounds like a good plan😁👍
Hoi dan, Is there a basic general rule for calculation on the grams per second per engine sizes?
Is there a general calculation that you can use so that we can get atleast a good expected grams per second starting point when we come to check the grams per second rates on the scan data etc.
Would be happy if there is a rule or calculation.. thanks Dan!
Yes and no, there is a calculation and we have it available in DDTSB. And i think with some searching you can find a Maf calculator online. But......not every engine is build the same and has the same Volumetric efficiently. So the calculation gets you close but not 100%
Hah, we had exactly same problem few months ago and also were wondering about live data 😂 In our case sensor was shorted internally and blew a fuse.
🤣🤣👍
Ironically with my current knowledge I would have thrown in a new sensor and had the same result
Yes in this case replacing the part would have fixed the issue
Not sure if you know, Dan but a few of your recent videos only have left or right audio.
I'm surprised you didn't check the integrity of the signal wire to the ECU and the ECU itself before determining a MAF sensor, all you need to do is disconnect the plug and check for correct signal.
If there already is no signal at the Maf itself there certainly isn't going to be a signal at the ecu right?
Small but usefully diagnose it can really mess up your car
😁👍
a very comprehensive check, don't guess diagnoses.
Exactly 💪💪
So the code was right and if I tried a new maf it would have fixed it?
Yes....this time
Does it not have actual vs calculated data pid for maf sensor? In GM vehicles it does. In earlier GM E85 trucks they often differ by around 2 g/s and will never set a maf code but will start to calculate the alcohol content in the fuel as being higher. When that happens you eventually get rich codes due to adding more fuel as per alcohol content calculated by ECM. Without those comparisons to look at would be impossible to diagnose. So would surprise me if all you have is calculated or substituted value in data list without actual maf reading. Maybe a Hyundai thing lol. Enjoy your humor though.
Not in this case
I wish you can do daily content.
I wish i could
Should include a new light next to fuel guage 🍻 so when low on gas they have to buy the mechanics ah 12 pack lol-awsume Dan as always thanks a bunch 😂 cheers
🤣🤣👍
Dan fixed the car with a “educated” parts cannon. That’s done by testing the circuit first.
😁👍
Lots of beer!🥰
🤣🍻
The problem is the software in the scanner. They indicate X10 more so 400 x 10.
Thanks for watching
Beer, universal trade item. 😀
🤣👍
At least they are creating the next problem you can fix by overheating the fuel pump…. Circle of repair i guess
Oof. I would NEVER have figured that out.
Thanks for watching
😂 Good job.
🤣thanks
If there's a mechanic of the year award, it will be you Dan. Learn something new today even thou I'm no longer in the automotive repairs. Was a master mechanic for 2 decades. Your RUclips videos are the best. CA, USA.
Thank you! That means a lot to me!
DDan , you suppose to be a full time teacher in the automotive field, SMA is a master mechanic.
Actually, there are many other good mechanics out there. Unfortunately, they don't have a YT channel or don't care about sharing their knowledge. In Europe, Dan is one of the best. In the USA there are more. See for instance Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics. Good honest guy, he records everything he does.
It don't get why he has his own repair shop when we have to help him diagnose EVERY vehicle...
Love your videos Dan!
Grüße aus Deutschland
Ha ha and you are not even payed🤣 Danke sehr😁👍
Typical customer, please fix my car and I have left the fuel tank with 1 litre of fuel in it.
I accidentally did the opposite once - I left it with a full tank of fuel when they needed to drop the fuel tank in order to replace some copper brake lines which ran between it and the body... 😳
@@unclefester2 That's equally 🤦 to techs.
@@unclefester2 yes, I have had that done to me, usually failed fuel pumps that need a tank drop due to no hatch in the floor.
Yeah, pesky customers! Always paying your wages and keeping you employed 😂
Same Problem around the World 😁
Keep up the amazing work Dan .......
😁👍
You crack me up. Always bring a smile to my face. Thanks Bud. UK
That means a lot! Thank you
As a half joke/half talking point, I genuinely have a "Case Of Beer" line item in my invoicing software for those little annoyances like low fuel or mountains of personal belongings right where I need to be. I don't get to use it often, but it's fun to watch the hamster fall off the wheel when I do. "Yeah, that's for bringing me a car with no fuel and a driveability complaint, ya pool noodle..."
That is amazing! Who would have thought that in generic scan mode you could see actual live data from the sensor not what the computer is compensating.
Thank you very much for watching
Nice fix! Should be a rule.. no fuel= beer or cake !
🤣🤣
Your such a great teacher/Technician and I see your passion in this feild. You make things so clear and easy to understand.I feel like I got better at diagnosis as Technician since I started watching your videos 3 years ago. Cheers 🍻 lol
Thats great! Very nice to hear👍👍
I always find it interesting that a lot of the times the very same day as something like this is posted, I get faced with the issue. 2018 E450 6.8L gas obviously with a easy to see miss. (not using a cheap scanner) check engine light on shows random misfire, nothing specific... live data, misfire counter..ALL ZERO's.... engine still shaking... generic OBDII and guess what.... misfire on #4. quick fix...Thanks for waking some of us up from time to time!!!
I always check generic in those cases! Thanks for watching 👍👍👍😊
About the fuel: In my country (in the past) some mechanics used to drain your petrol and said "we did some long test rides to solve your issue". Sadly, after 20-30 years of that there are still people bringing their vehicle always with minimal petrol in tank. It is a bad reflex. Maybe your customer had a similar issue in the past with another mechanic and that's why the tank was almost empty. Sometimes you can't do anything against bad reflexes. Anyway, the video is very informartive Dan, thanks for sharing it. I learned pretty much from your videos and as a "repair my cars and bikes for myself" person I developed a lot!
Taking fuel from a customers car is unacceptable, customers dont have to bring the car in with a full tank either but a bit more than fumes would be appreciated 🤣🤣
Dan is the GOD of diagnostics. Love the bloopers too lol.
Thanks for watching
Lol , yes nothing more annoying than people bringing in there vehicles with NO fuel ............ GRRRRRRRR
🤣🤣👍
Nice work mate,
100% always gotta fall back on that when in doubt, especially with older vehicles. Love it 💪
Funny how I was working on a 2008 Tucson today with a 2.7 V6 engine light on and no running issues.
Fuel trim and misfire codes stored, except in my case the AFM was replaced incorrectly at another workshop and the faults persisted. I smoke tested it and found a leak on the butterfly shaft of the throttle body. You never know what you might find on any given day.
Keep up the great work and I'll see ya over this side soon 👌💪👏⌚🔜
See you in a few weeks 😁👍
Hey Dan! Great catch with OEM vs Generic scan data 😊
One of my customers has a 2006 Hyundai Tucson V6. It had a "lean" condition and the diagnosis showed the mass air sensor wasn't reporting enough air! I unplugged it and car runs beautifully... He's been driving it like that for over a year now, no problem at all 😆👌
Ha ha 😂 No parts required💪 I guess he doesn't mind the check engine light😁
... sometimes ... the substitute values are better than some aftermarket MAF`s :)
🤣🤣👍
In my experience these kind of issues (questionable live data and in some cases incorrect fault code information) is what you get with an aftermarket scan tools unfortunately. Have worked both independ and as a service rep for an oem. These issues exist also with the original dealer scan tools but they usually gets these bugs fixes as long as they are caught when the product in question is in the warranty period 😂 For aftermarket scan tools the feedback loop through technical support, trainings and angry dealer service managers asking for policy or goodwill is just not there in the same sense
Thanks for watching!😁👍
Just delt with this a few days ago on a 2003 Kia Optima turned out to be the mass airflow sensor, and yes I had to go to generic OBD2 to find it
Great job!
Well today was a school day! Thanks. Loved the fuel comment. I mainly repair trucks, according to my accounts last year I spent £460 on fuel to test drive and mot...... I did get some beer as well !😆
Beer makes friends 😂
Great case study. On how factory live data can lie to you, and global by law has to display accurate info.
Thank you!
