It's so sad, piece by piece the high Street is dying, not just sunderland but right throughout the country, I remember Sunderland in the sixties and seventies and it was thriving, shops, restaurants and bars always busy, the shipyards closed, the pits the port and many other industries and works,do sad but on a positive note, another class video lads😅
I think the dark ages is the historic bit you're missing, the point at which shared language was enabling us to reliably record history. Thanks for the look around Sunderland ❤️
Such a shame all the developments going on around the areas of the town and no shops to provide people with stuff they need but suppose its sign of the times all over country town centres are like this
Somerfield food was sold in Food Giant which was situated where the new Sunderland College is, opposite Park Lane bus station, prior to that it was called Gateway l believe, before that Fine Fare.
You went to the Odeon, which closed in 1982, to watch "Back To The Future" in 1985......Laughed me head off at that, Terry. Great film as usual. Just enjoyed your Barnard Castle one from a few years back.
So sad to see these declining high streets. Just like everywhere else I'm afraid, it's a case of use it or loose it. Keno hit the nail on the head on this one.
It’s a shame for all these shops shutting down. It’s like a ghost town in Sunderland now the top end of Sunderland looks nice with loads of people going online now but it’s a shame people losing their jobs all these top shops going for sad that many shops in Sunderland now, that’s why people comes to Newcastle. I want to see people going into Sunderland and giving money not giving our money to Newcastle. I wanted to be stayed in Sunderland the money everyone is going online now and it’s very sad to see these big shops gone.
Sorry like but Sunderland is far from a "Ghost town" the whole area round The Empire and Keel Square is buzzing most nights now due to the shows on at The Empire and The Firestation.
Hi Terry lovingly your videos mate was wondering if you do a videos in stanhope County Durham it a great village with a lot of shops some guft shops places to eat and good walks there one down by a river and one around a query it a great place for a day out and a hiden gem in the North East not many people know about stanhope and how great it is to visit for the day or even a holiday keep the videos going your doing great
Great video. Thanks ! Ive not lived in the area for the last 26 years .sad to see the decline of sunderlands high street. Although washington will benefit. Keano is a joker.
Retail parks on the edges of city centres with free parking and cheaper rents also part of the high streets demise. Should do a video of the new keel square with the new bars and then walk around to the fire station great music venue.
Bloody hell, what next, who could have predicted this back in my day. Joplins, Binns, Dogarts, Binns, Cook Travel agency, and now M&S. Is British Home Stores still around ? Best regards and God bless, expat Geordie, Canada.
I am disabled and I can't get to the town centre unless I use a taxi which is expensive. People in crowds show zero respect for disable to people. You need to wake up to that.
The last time he rode a skateboard they had steel wheels! Also, don't look for a church made before steeples! Shame about your economy, we have similar happenings here in America. It is bad when the only bar you have left is a Pour House (LOL). (Is it really true that things can be bought on the interweb, I wouldn't know as I have never tried!) Keep buying local, guys. Thanks from the States of confusion!
Great video lads, great message about our dying highstreets because of convenience. A jail cell is convenient as well, bed, bog and food tray all in one little room. Sunderland city is being converted to a 'Smart City'. Not tidy smart but digital smart. Cameras and sensors talking to the smart phone in your pocket whether you like it or not. Highstreet shops knocked down or converted into residential. Smart cities, digital currency, smart devices, smart wearables all feeding their smart computers about us. The UN call it 'sustainable development'. The WEF call it Technocracy, just like the prison cities of China. KLD is onboard with all this stuff, his mam goes to Davos every year. Soon cities will be no fun at all especially if you live in a Smart city.
Hi what a shame marks and Spencer closing 😠 Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery up the walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery
On a positive note - we all need a Greggs pasty before we get our nails done before heading to a betting shop and winning 50k to put through the money laundering services of the Turkish barbers 🙈🙉🙊
Times change and people’s habits change. Either embrace the changes and adapt or visit this dinosaur’s graveyard and feel sorry for the demise of the past.
That was the abc, not the odeon. Odeon was further down towards Turveys garage.
Cheers mate

And stop with the takeaways, too. Dash Uber eats, etc. Start cooking from fresh. We've become far too lazy, in my opinion. Enough is enough!

It's a shame. I have gone in M&S when I have come up for the football and forgotten to pack something. A loss to Sunderland town centre.
