I think the shape of the Headstock looks great! also even if I have had a bad day, after watching your videos I always walk away feeling happy! So thanks for sharing and I look forward to your next one! Cheers.
I'm gonna jump in with the others on no back strap. Leave the lams showing. Headstock looks great. I always think of Martins and Gibsons with their very square headstocks. They only sell for multiple 1000s of $. The yellow file thing is a sureform I think they were invented by the surf board industry. If not they are used widely by them. So many things you mentioned and I can't remember most of it. It looks great that maple is going to pop big time under finish. The grain orientation of the lam neck is important for looks but is very important for neck stability. Sorry I'm doing Mr. know it all. Love your videos James!
Well, for what it's worth, I think keeping the headstock relatively simple is the right way to go. I agree with your thinking that there's already plenty going on with this guitar anyway. I think it's looking really good, and I really want to hear it now. I'msure that the raw brass is going to sound wonderful.
instead of the same old wood stripes and such maybe you should cast a hollow bronze neck and headstock. In 1956 Tandy Corp .. yes the leather company .. created 5 of them. .......ok I am just messin with ya, but you seem to excel with impossible tasks..
Show the stripes! I don't know why you don't just let the stripes show on the front too. What's the point of making them if they're only visible from the back, so you and the eventual owner are the only ones who'll ever see them? I'm not ragging on you, I just think it's a shame to hide it.
That's a good point, not many will see all that work. I don't know why but whenever I see the stripes on the front of the headstock it makes me think of a Jerry Garcia type guitar which isn't bad but it's not my favorite. I'm still not sure how I feel about all the stripes on the neck, but I've learned over the years these laminate necks are super stable and strong so I like them.
It sounds great plugged in. The mini manages to capture a bit of the resonator vibe. The popular pickups that have magnets that stick to the top probably sound better but it's really handy to be able to plug in whenever needed.
@@Ninety2guits I meant I wanted one at the bridge; not a piezo, a regular mini humbucker. I just wonder what it would sound like. But it might hit the cone. Thank you for these videos, I'm learning a ton!
Ah that makes sense. They make a cover plate with a lipstick pickup built into it. The problem with a pickup in the cover plate is it can only fit in one spot (basically 3-4" closer to the bridge than the one I have. I haven't checked if a mini humbucker would fit on the cover plate but I'm assuming there is a reason I only see lipstick pups in the cover plate. I've never played one with the pickup in the cover plate but it seems like people aren't that thrilled with them. Not sure why.
Super !!
Loving it
Love your channel and these resonator builds! Thank you!
Glad you like them. Thank you.
Can't wait to see this finished!
Wow lots of work that goes into making it. Can't wait see all done. Keep up the great work!
my god, it's become a masterpiece! so beautiful, great work.
Wow, thank you!

Thanks Dane. Sureform sureform sureform, maybe if I type it over and over I'll remember. I need to order new blades for mine, it's getting dull.
Where did you get that huge drill bit that you used to open up the truss rod access in the headstock veneer? It's exactly what I'm looking for!
I got it at Home Depot. I bought several sizes in that length, they come in super handy.
Stripes through! No veneer on the back of the headstock.
Great!!! That saves me a few minutes of work... out of millions of minutes lol!
@@Ninety2guits I always wonder why I don't make every instrument entirely complicated because an added 20 minutes out of infinity is nothing.

So what if I do 1/4 of what you did there my friend!?
Hahaha! Then you will only have to redo 50% of what I did. I'm choosing to call it doing the right thing the wrong way... does that make it wrong?

I would like to make an aluminum neck one day :)
Surform.

Why do I want to put a bridge P90/mini humbucker on a resonator???
