Watching someone else plastering/sanding is much better than doing it myself.

Tim, ‘Patron Saint of patience’ As I plough on with my own DIY renovations, I always finish watching your vids thinking the same thing. Where does this man get his energy & determination from! I’m liking the sander, but must not give in to temptation!

Subscribed to the new channel, great idea to split the content although I have interest in both areas. I’ll be happy when you move on from the cabin to be honest😊 as it’s not relevant to what I want to see, it’s interesting to see but I can’t wait for you starting on the farm buildings….I’m sure you guys feel the same 😄😄

A nail brush or a scrubbing brush with bristles about as firm as one, would be good to remove the plaster clogging up the sanding discs. It's going to clog up no matter what and brushing it will help. It might not be how you want to work but if you leave one partly clogged, it will effectively reduce the grit and not be as aggressive on the plaster. It could be the solution you're looking for. Alternatively, you could have a little success wearing down a couple of discs on some wood or stone to reduce the harshness of the grit.

Boarded and jointed some new stud wall to an existing wall. Looked a right mess compared to when I boarded and jointed my garage.... so I plumped for an inexpensive drywall sander for about £65 off amazon.... what a lifesaver! Was almost at the point of calling in a plasterer to skim as it was terrible, but this flattened it down in no time at all, then a light skim over some areas and a re-sand - job's a good un! Best purchase made saving me a right headache! Since drywalled another part of the house and it was invaluable. Also used it on a painted plastered wall which had terrible imperfections, now nice and smooth and repainted.
Looking forward to the new channel even though I am more drawn to the DIY side of things.

Good idea to start a new channel for the farm content. I love the DIY/Construction content but have no interest in running a smallholding. This way, everyone is happy 😊

That's a far nicer sander than the one I have. At one time I had the Porter cable one which Festool copied and made better... You use finer paper than you would expect. When i finally finish the house remodel that has taken too many years I will be selling or giving mine away. I can't wait till the day I never have to do drywall again. I prefer hot mud since the dry time is so short that I can sand it and reapply several times a day since I am so bad at it...

You made this far more complicated and labour intensive than it needs to be.
The pro taping and jointers i got in basically did one coat with the right tools then sanded once about 3 or 4 days later. Job done. Perfectly flat and smooth walls ready for mist coat.
I fell in the same trap as you have when I attempted one room myself after watching videos online of the very outdated labour intensive "American" way.
On a cash / weekend and evenings rate in 2016 I paid about £700 all in including materials for 2 guys to do a 7/8 rooms in a 3 bed house walls and ceilings. It took them about 3/4 of a day to do almost all of the jointing, another 1/4 of a day to comeback and do all the board end joints at 90deg to board edge joints - they had to wait overnight for the first joint to be dry so the wheals on their boxes didn't dig in to the first joint. Then about 4 days later when everything was dry they came back for 1/4 of a day to sand the whole place. Job done. This is how a lot of new builds are finished and obvs slot cheeper and quicker than skimming. Can paint a week after jointing unlike skimming.
Edit: just found a video demonstrating the tools the guys used: ruclips.net/video/wARCIfQOeno/видео.html
Very similar to this except they used a mix of mesh and paper tape depending on the joint. This saved them waiting for stuff to dry.
Still a shame how 99% of the videos on RUclips are using knives and hawks.

As a fellow DIYer I claim drywalling is the worst. In my limited experience sanding early is a mistake because you want your tape covered. The wax on, wax off approach when you sand just undoes your work. Use your 6 inch knife/trowel/etc to knock off any odd bits that dried and then use the dry second coat as a high spot to guide your knife in making a pass on either side. 12 inch knife will make a 2 foot joint that way. Sand after the 3rd coat to finish it. The good muders hardly need to sand it. That sander certainly saves you a huge mess. Wise investment

One thing I hate about feathering out the filler is the horrible wavy walls that result. When I'm filling tapered joints, I put filler in the joint, press the tape into it, and then fill just beyond the edge of the tapers. When I sand it, I sand back to the edges of the taper that gives me a completely flat wall, and a straight transition between the paper and the filler.

I’m months behind but have you tried a sander cleaner? It’s a game changer for any belt or disc sander, it’s basically blocks of rubber, it removes the majority of clogging from the sandpaper.

Hmm, but without full skimming at least very very thin layer, there is a chance, that will bi on daylight visible areas our drywalls, where is plastered where not,(paper -matt, plaster not). Not sure how is now these days, very thicker paints etc.

I hate the 400000 different hose sizes and adapters and it is hard to even buy the correct adaptors with internal and external diameters listed
As close as I have come to Festool sander sticking to the wall. I can say the Festool hand sanding block sticks so well you can’t move it along unless you turn the vac down due to suction! Great for minimal dust inside repair situations
Good luck with the new channel

It’s not inside a trench, it’s within a concrete bay on a farmyard. Bays would usually be used to store hay or other farm supplies while protecting them from the wind. 👍
