    I don't know why but i'm watching this video again!
    The quality content, the transition, the music, the vibes are just so well made!
    I will be so sad if this has to be ephemeral.

    In the past, Supras were built on chassis from Toyota's business (Chaiser, Mark, Cressida, Aristo) sedans and had engines from them in order to showcase brand's power and pride. The only thing new Supra showcases - Toyotas greasiness and shame.
    V35A-FTS could easily be factory tuned to have around 500hp without sacrificing reliability, only fuel economy and remissions. This engine already have proven itself be reliable, despite it's complex modern design. It can make 600hp with simple ECU tune, which already exists. And Toyota's open deck, with cast iron sleeves designes are really strong, there are even 1000hp builds based on Toyota's i4 2AR-FE blocks. And cooling along with crankshaft strength is better in V engines. It would be one hell of a Supra on TNGA-N platform from new Crown, it would have front mid engine layout, just like the Crown does. They also could tune Aisin 10 speed for more sporty behaviour.. And no one would care about it having v6 instead of i6 as no one cares that original R32 GTR had RB i6 where is modern once have v6es.
    I am really glad that this Supra has very bad sales and i hope that new Nissan Z will put final nail in the coffin of this abomination. If you like BMW then buy BMW.
    There is Japanese automotive pride and history. Technology and engineering wise Japanese have been among leaders since 1980s Back than their metallurgy technology was far superior than that in other countries and only they could build long stroke engines that were high revving, due to mass production of light and strong crankshafts. They were smooth, economical and powerful even before ECUs. That's how they concarade the world. Then they showed how injection, variable valve timing, active awd systems and turbocharging is done properly and reliably. They were also first to implement these technologies in mass production of affordable vehicles. And they always use high quality materials and components for their engines and transitions along with proper, reliability conscious injenering.
    And no Toyota has ashamed itself and betrayed Toyota fans and japanese car fans in general.
    Shame.

      It's better to have another sports car instead of not having one. It drives very well and the interior is much better than any other Toyota vehicle has. The Supra name was a publicity stunt and if it had a different name nobody would be complaining! I understand where you are coming from but Toyota isn't what it used to be either.

    • @T800-b2m
      @T800-b2m 4 года назад

      @@DailyDrives973 Well, that 'publicity stunt' wasn't very successful, cos people who can afford 50k sports cars aren't idiots and they don't like these stunts. Toyota definitely could make supra themselves, cos they had all of the needed components already developed, they just didn't want to lose money on it, just like they did on mk4. But guess what, they still lost money, cos almost no one buys that B.S.. Even mk4 did much, much better. Not only they've lost the chance to remind the world how great Toyota is, but they also have destroyed their iconic name and they've killed a legend.
      Sure Toyota isn't the same as it was back in 80s and 90s, now they focus on building Lexus inspiration cars like LC 500 and soon LC F, but they also have gone way greedier and don't think about their heritage and long term profits enough. But regardless, their engineering is still on top, just as it was back then. Truth is: Toyota have spand much more money developing their new V35A-FTS (ttV6) engine and it's manufacturing processes than BMW did on it's B58, cos they plan to use it on whole bunch of vehicles: starting from luxury sedans and finishing with Toyota trucks. Thing is: this engine is more expensive, more complicated, more durable, has bigger displacement, bigger potential, better cooling, stronger and crankshaft than B58. Overall, they've spent a whole lot on their 'Dynamic force' series and 2.4tt i4(320hp) along with 4.6tt V8(650hp) are coming soon. Also Toyota has more complicated, more expensive manufacturing processing and it doesn't cost cut nearly as much.
      About the interior: really, even better than Toyota Century? If you want to compare BMW interior with something, compare them with Lexus. LS500 and LC500 have better interiors than any BMW and they can last longer.
      More on their greediness:
      They should had killed ES before it buried GS alive and crippled iS. It was eating GS,iS and Avalon sales. Last generation GS was a great car, it was more balanced and had better quality than w211 or F10 and it had decent sales in 2013-2016, so did iS. UR engine in GS F - was engineering marvel, it can make 800hp just with turbocharger and ECU tune. Everything was going great, they were slowly improving their image and going upmarket, but their greasiness didn't let them to kill FWD, MacPherson ES and RX, now it's all they have, cos these cars ruined the rest of the Lexus brand. Thing is: even in 90s and 0s they had much better sales and they were more upmarket. Nobody who buys LS, LC, or who will buy future LQ wants to be associated with soccer noms and old geezers, who buy RX and ES. So by focusing too much on people, who don't care about cars and trying to sit on two chairs, they went down from were they were. If they would chose more upmarket rout, they would've grown. Now it will get only harder, since Genesis is growing, Volvo is back on their feet, Acura is progressing like crazy And Cadillac is trying their best, even Mazda planes to move in. Semi luxury segment is getting more and more crowded. Only way for Lexus - is upmarket, and they sure have enough engineering and production quality for it.

      @@DailyDrives973 The point is that Toyota could have made a proper Supra - one that would compete with GTR,, most Porsches, etc. Now they named a car "supra" that is in a Miata class. So you think Toyota has a smaller cap and world market smaller than they did in the 1980's and 1990s? NOT! I suspect you have looked through the car a bit (under the skin) and cannot find a single Toyota part that is not a label or logo. This car is 99% bmw with a body kit and tweaks to the suspension and tune. Even at that, the top model of the 2019 Supra was rated only 15 hp more than the 1993.5 Supra turbo. Wow - 15 hp advance in 26 years! BTW - don't tell me the new one is underrated - the MKIV was also underrated. Some had nearly 320 rwhp stock and all could break 400rwhp with a $50 manual boost controller, better intake, and larger downpipe and exhaust. My car did it with less than $1K in mods.
      BTW - the reliability of BMW past a few years is trash compared to previous Toyota-built cars. I would not have a BMW if you gave it to me - but my son went through a long history of buying different bmw models just out of warranty and they were a trouble and money pit. Not to mention that we always needed some "special tool" or fitting that was either hard to get or ridiculously expensive. I totally expect my 1994 MKIV turbo to be running well long after these models are in the junkyard.

    B58 is an amazing platform. Chassis is really strong and capable of pretty much anything you throw at it. Toyota is getting too much shit for this amazing car, you have to understand that Japan has insane auto restrictions and emission regulations, more than the US. Even the ft1 design they couldnt use it as a final design as the original concept manager explained. Toyota can make amazing machines, it's a shame they couldnt have help from Yamaha to develop it like the LFA. The supra sales figures are particularly good so far, we'll see what happens as the year goes on.

    I love my Supra ,it looks great ,drives great and it even gets respectable gas mileage. There is a few kinks that I hope Toyota will address.
    1. wind buffetting
    2. Info screen is as bright as it will go, still hard to see in the daytime.

      What planet are you from? The stock turbo Supra topped EVERYTHING in it's class and punched well above it's class. It did not take a lot of expensive mods to knock out "supercars", either. I have followed Supras since the Celica Supra and still have my MKIV turbo.

    The FT-1 should have been the design for the new Supra. Kinda disappointed with that, together with the BMW engine fiasco. But before you criticize me on the 2jz, been developed by yamaha and not entirely Toyota. The 2jz, was at least created by Toyota in conjunction with Yamaha, as opposed to slapsticking an entirely different engine from another manufacturer. This for me, butchered the soul of the Supra. Just my 2cents on the MKV. Looks great in person i will admit, but not a priority for me in future. 👍

    • @DailyDrives973
      @DailyDrives973  4 года назад

      We think the name was just a marketing stunt to create more buzz around the car. If you look at it as it is and forget brands it's a wonderful drive.

    • @supraking1319
      @supraking1319 4 года назад

      Couldn't agree more, it's a wonderful car to drive. Perhaps not to tarnish the Supra name, they should have sold this as a Celica. They should have taken their sweet time building an engine or updating existing engine's to implement in the Supra.

      Toyota reforged the engine though

    • @CarlosGarcia-ze6rt
      @CarlosGarcia-ze6rt 4 года назад

      @@supraking1319 if toyota had designed an entire new 6 cyl engine (because they wanted an i6) the mkv supra would have been a lot more expensive (more than $100k) because designing an entirely new engine that can only be fitted in one car (because the new toyotas aren't designed to fit i6 engines) can cost millions of dollars.
      They had that experience with the Lexus LFA and they don't want yo repeat that with the mkv supra. I read somewhere (but i'm not sure of this) that if the mkv sells decent numbers they will make an MKvi designed entirely by toyota. Maybe with a V6 to keep the cost down.

    • @doctorlarry2273
      @doctorlarry2273 4 года назад

      Actually, Yamaha only worked on the head that went into the 1jz and 2jz. Nothing else. The mkv is 99% bmw - you will not find a Toyota part beneath the body kit. My MKIV Turbo will last well beyond these models.
