Nord's piano library captures the entire nuanced experience of the piano sound where TYPICALLY Yamaha (& most other manufacturers') piano/EP samples, while excellent, are a more idealized, very processed, and looped representation, which has been why I've preferred Yamaha in the past; you know a Yamaha is always going to cut through a mix, while previous incarnations of Nord (i.e., my ill-fated Nord Electro 3) just didn't stand out & sounded murky and unimpressive in practical applications. Modern Nords, however, are a COMPLETELY different affair, as they achieve the balance of authenticity & presence flawlessly, but this offering by Yamaha is closing the gap a bit in regard to acoustic piano; the EP is still VERY idealized, but, again, there will be no worry about it standing out. While I appreciate the effort, in my opinion the comparison has no value at all. It's like comparing a Bösendorfer, Fazioli, Shigeru Kawai and Steinway on youtube. Do you want a piano that sounds like a cold well behaved kid or do you want a naked vulnerable sound full of feelings? It's up to you and not to anyone else to decide for you. If you don't find out for yourself in the shop you may well end up buying a piano that will become a dust collector because you subconsciously don't really like the sound. In addition to that, you have to try playing them too, to find out if you like the key feeling. That's what landed me with a Kawai when I bought an acoustic piano. And I tried three different pianos of the same model to find the one with the sound that I liked the best. So: go out and try for yourself. By all means, listen to this, but don't make a decision based on it. At least Nord has a whole series of different piano sounds in their library that you don't hear here, and I assume that Yamaha does, too. Nord seems to try staying true to what folks who've experienced a Rhodes recognize while Yam and others take the SUPER idealized approach.
The EP2 on Nord would have been a more direct comparison. Those were two completely different models of EP he compared. The Yamaha sounds good but the Nord is so much more lush… hard to compare.
From personal experience the only strength the CP88 has is the upright piano. The other piano sounds and all the synths are garbage. I have a piano 5 on order and cant wait till it arrives. Also for clarification I’m not biased all of my keyboards until now have been yamaha. I just think the CP88 was underwhelming especially when compring to an older gen stage piano like an s90
You might want to take a look at some of the Nord reviews that show damage right out of the box. Not only that I’ve seen some demos that show extremely loud and clicky keys. For an instrument of its price point, none of those things should happen. Having said that, Nord does have good piano sounds. But their quality assurance department leaves plenty to be desired. Especially for that price I wouldn’t buy one.
@@davesworld9627 I highly agree, I'm reading QC action issues on even the flagship Nord grand. One excellent pro player who made a largely viewed YT video on the NG a few years ago when it debuted, is selling his after the playing the YC88. @@ispianist what do you mean by opposite? I didn’t I say that keyfeel was unimportant? Yes vst’s like keyscape are great. Yeah, but that's the character of most unmodified REAL Rhodes'; They are mushy, muddy, unbalanced, inconsistent, and semi dynamic, but still sweet (wurli's are typically more dynamic, but a lot fatter and muddier than most processed sampled representations). Samples are only idealized versions of the best MODIFIED examples.
The nord 5 is a class of its own . Yamaha is good but nord is better . Now I understand why all the
professionell musicians used nord ..
Between both, nord is eon above yamaha. I can tell blindfolded listening both enen via crappy phone speaker.
Nord ❤️
Yamaha any day definitely beats a nord
comparando Yamaha com YAMAHA...TUDO DO NORD SOA YAMAHA
Nord more natural.
Nord had better piano in my opinion but I do like the u1 from Yamaha but eps go to Yamaha that just my opinion lol now yam
Red or Black ? Mmmm…… 😢
i think this is the most important issue....hehe... like choosing a girlfriend.... cooking and house keeping are the least important
And he owns a Yamaha C7 and has owned an AvantGrand N3...so he knows what a real piano action feels like and how it responds for a pro player. He has had some keyboard issues even on the non-fatar. I've owned two different NPs fwiw- NP original and NP2. Too much dough for questionable QC issues. At that money there should be ZERO problems of any kind.
@@davesworld9627 No issues at all out of the box. I’m happy with my purchase. Now after playing both keyboards for sometime. I will always choose the Nord. The feel of the keys on the yamaha is definitely nicer, hammer action is similar but for software and hardware Nord wins.
@@PianoUncion For you perhaps, for others the Nord has too many quality control issues to command the price that it does.
Nord piano is much more natural.
NORD IS THE KING
Roland RD2000
I owned both Nord Stage 3 (88 keys) and Rd-2000 at the same time. I ending up selling the Roland as i just sounded very artificial compared to the Nord (especially the pianos). It did have better keys. Keyfeel are important, but I’ll never trade better keys for the sacrifice of soundquality. Never.
@@theclavermanI am actually the opposite of that. I rather have better key action than sound. Using vst beats any keyboard in the market. Specially using keyscape.
@@ispianist what do you mean by opposite? I didn’t I say that keyfeel was unimportant? Yes vst’s like keyscape are great. But when touring or gigging it is absolutely not convinient to use a laptop with vst’s, and programs like mainstage is sadly not reliable/stable enough for live use when needing alot of layered patch changes. For gigging, I still say Nord Stage all the way…And on the new Nord Stage 4 the keys are great. You know, there is actually a reason why these red keyboards are seen all over the place on concerts TV-shows….and its not because of its red colour.
@@theclaverman You said it. " I will never trade better keys for the sacrifice of sound quality. Never" I do own a Nord electro 6D. It is all Hype. You can't tell me is the "best keyboard" That statement would be subjective. I bought the Nord just because I wanted to see for myself if really was a good keyboard. It is good but their price tag don't makes up for their products. I think Nord is way overrated.
That was the attempt to get closer to Nord. But it's not even close. Nord is the best
Like
yamaha wins!
Wish you could have a better player do these demos
You people need better piano players to do demos, tired of amateurs doing demos,I can’t even watch them
Nord is weak.
Ok
