      They sure do... i was stuck on the side of the interstate for 24 hrs until i found the key had slipped out due to wear and tear....then just pushed it in a little further to make a quick fix till i got home.

      That only effects things when you go to time the motor yeh?
      By that i mean it can move but it won't actually change the timing unless you retime the dizzy to the new position?
      I ask as ours has slipped by the looks of it, and it appears to be around 90 degrees, but there is more going on than just that with the spark timing having actually changed by a lot as if the timing belt had jumped a few teeth.

    If the first piston is at TDC, the distributor rotor is pointing to spark terminal 4 in your video. This is not the case in the Haynes manual, which says to point the distributor rotor to spark 1. We lost the igniting position for our distributor and put it as spark for 1 at TDC and the engine would not start. Fuel is fine, compression is fine, there is spark and since the fuel was not being ignited, there was backfire. What should we do? Thanks

    • @JeffSelck
      @JeffSelck  Год назад +2

      the manual is not correct..I would set up all your top pulley at the timing mark and the rotor should be pointed up in the direction of the top bolt that holds the distributor.

    My truck runs fine but I’m gettin some backfiring. Was told the timing is probably off a little. Do you think this can bite fixed by just adjusting the distributor?

    • @JeffSelck
      @JeffSelck  5 лет назад

      Yes that is the best way to adjust your timing, loosen the lower bolt, 12 mm I believe. Take a picture or mark it before you move it so u know where u were at

    is the rotor pointing at # 4 plug wire? Is it not set to #1? Thank you

    • @JeffSelck
      @JeffSelck  4 года назад +2

      Point it to the bolt at the top end that is closest to the firewall
      And make sure bottom timing mark is close but the top needs to be exact with piston 1 and 4 at tdc. Hope that helps.. if not can call tomorrow to walk you through it

      use the piston 4 because the 1 and 4 gets up at the same time, they are in the top dead center at the same time, but, when the crank and cam are aligned to the time marks, the no1 piston is in TDC but in the exhaust time, and the piston 4 is in TDC but in the compression time. That's why we use the piston 4 to get timming instead the 1.
