I use paper bags to cook whole chickens and my thanksgiving turkey in. The birds fall off the bone and are super moist. And yes, I remember using paper bags to cover my school books. Everyone did it and showed off their art work. The nice thing was when they got torn or dirty, you just took it off and made a new one so the book always stayed clean. Heck in my high school, you had to have your textbooks covered. Some used the paper bags and some used removeable contact paper. We were definitely a colorful group.
kardiaheart I was a seventies child and yes in the uk everyone covered their school books. I remember using discounted wallpaper (as did everybody) but there was a craze of using cute birthday wrapping paper, which was obviously an expensive way of doing it. Honestly my mum used to cringe at the start of a new school year with all the books that needed to be covered. 😂
Hi girl ! I’m from Puerto Rico and here we use sofrito in almost everything ( that’s onions, peppers and garlic along with a few other ingredients but the basic are those 3 ingredients) . I always chop my vegetables ahead in the different shapes I need and freeze them , that way I save time when I’m cooking. You can do the same , try it yourself and see the benefits. I really enjoy tour videos. 🇵🇷🙋🏻♀️
My moms favorite thing to do when she was a single mom was to just make 2 of dinner that night. Eat one, freeze one.👍 takes no extra time and you get ahead. Once you do that a while you always have a stock in the freezer for emergencies and those days where you just can’t bear to cook. ♥️
Hi, im a single mom of 6, and i work too. I always have a homemade supper for them every night. Even if i make it at like 11pm for the next day. When i have a lot of energy, i make a few meals at one time.
You can also put that chicken in a crockpot, instapot and let it do its thing to the frozen chicken. I meal plan for a month at a time with the meats I already have in my freezer. Life happens sometimes so I dont sweat it. It's nice to look at my calendar and not have to think, "what do I make for dinner?" Its written out and its like a surprise. Sometimes you think ugh I am not in the mood for that but I move it all around. It works for me. This month is my first month doing things this way and it has reduced my stress and anxiety. I food prep weekly, like chopping veg, garlic, onions, cook bacon in oven, etc. Make meat sauce for an entire month. Love all your ideas. Thank you for sharing.
Wow ! I am amazed with how you utilize leftovers and create new meals. 💕😄Enjoyed watching this video. I played it while handwashing dishes & cooking chicken in my pot for Chicken & Dumplings. I am going to play this one again ! You have so many great ideas and recipes that look scrumptious! Have a lovely day with you & your family. 💗🤗
I remember the text book covers with paper bags. I live in Texas and Buttercrust bread factory was here so we had buttercrust paper book covers. We also used the paper grocery bags as trash bags. So many uses.
Girl you need to start cooking your frozen chicken in your instant pot! Throw it all in frozen with a cup of water, 30 minutes then natural release and BAM! Done!
I started using brown paper bags to cover the text books I used in school in Junior high school and into high school. In the late 70s early 80s. I came from a family with 4 kids. At home and 2 step sister's at my dad's home.
I make a monthly meal plan. Sunday is chicken day, Monday Italian, Tuesday leftovers, Wednesday seafood, Thursday beef, Friday pizza and Saturday pork. I have been doing this since 2013. It gets adjusted the type of cooking asked on seasons. More crockpot in winter and grill in summer. This way I know what I need to have in the freezer ahead of time.
Yep that's how I meal plan too I take a kitchen inventory 😃 works well because things get used up that need using up and saves sooo much money on groceries and ingredients 👍👍👍
I love Instacart. I had to use it for a couple months this spring/summer when I had vertigo so bad. It was great! A lifesaver! So happy to have that available in my area.
yeppers I remember “the brown paper bag” it had a multitude of different uses but, it made for great book covers, definitely remember my mom’s drawer or shelf of brown paper bags... I remember are school list specificity stated “brown bag for book covers” , use to cut n pastes pictures, drawings, doodles on them, also a great bag for carrying my stuff over for sleepovers, paper for art projects, wrapping presents, oh and dropping stuff off at the thrift stores, awe yes the many things done with the “brown paper bag”. Back than, more things were created at home vs going out and buying them. Even Halloween costumes, decorations and presents 🎁. Awe, thank you for the memory reminders.... awesome vlog, yummy stuff.....
If you have too many tortillas then freeze those, too! I like getting multiple when they're on sale or getting the multi packs from Costco and taking them out one at a time, just leave the bag a little bit open when they're thawing to let the moisture out and they're just like new!
I started with Walmart delivery. It was free for 15 days, then it's $12.95 a month. I don't drive so I pay way more than that on Uber. Plus, if I go shopping, I spend twice what I would by ordering. Plus, they come straight to my door! I love it!
Your comments about using the paper bags to cover textbooks made my day. I used to love doing that and drawing all over them throughout the year. Thank you for always putting out great videos. Every time I watch your content it makes me want to be a better person, mother, and wife. I work full time though...if you’re in the market to adopt an fully grown adult human, let me know 😘
Kimmy! You could cover books with brown paper bags, Sharpie on them, tie them up with ribbon and a cute note on the inside and that'd be the cutest gift ever! 💗
Hi Kimmy! Love your videos. I also love Shepherd's Pie, but not enough to make mashed potatoes every time I prepare it. SO. . . I intentionally make extra mashed potatoes and freeze them flat until I'm ready to make the pie. I've made the meat mixture with a note on the pie to add potatoes. Garlic mash too, is very good. I love cooking ahead - it's just the two of us, but I love cooking and batch cooking is just the ticket for me. Thank you for the videos and all the tips and suggestions you share. You have a great personality and a beautiful home and family.
Oh my goodness yes! Covered school books in paper bags. Decorated with stickers that were in a package with gum. I remember Garbage Pail Kids. Or something like that. It’s been a long time!!!!
Wow am I inspired!! Only 2 of us now but my elderly parents are across street so I can include them in the partaking. We eat out every night and it is ridiculous on cost. My grandpup Oliver turns 2 next week also. French bull dog, Oliver. He is soooooo cute but ornery.
I love meal planning just like you. I premake parts or all of a lot of my meals. Shop my home first. Especially right now. What I save on my budget, I get to use for Christmas. ☺️
Thought for anyone with super busy schedules. (Y’all probably know this already 😊) My friends and I, (some are single moms) pick a Friday night, or Saturday morning and sometimes a Sunday afternoon we’ll get together and make several meals. We all bring 3-4 recipes and the groceries for them and then we’ll meet at one of our homes and have a great day preparing and cooking some meals together and then at the end of the day we have plenty of meals to use that week or freeze or whatever. Everyone leaves with lots of goods. 😁 and yes Kimmy, I have done a lot of shelf cooking over the years. It’s amazing what folks actually have in their fridge, freezers and pantry’s.
Hi Kimmy, I love to watch your video's. In Holland we call the soup Erwtensoep! We also put an smoked sausage in it Rookworst! Then eat it with Roggebrood ( rye bread) and smoked bacon.
I lived in a very Dutch community here in upstate NY and the sound of your meal reminds me of my childhood and the Dutch Dinners we would have at church!
I always meal plan and if I do two mince meals I cook it all up in the sauce/tomatoes, so that way on the second night when it's crazy busy its quick spaghetti bol that night!! Also meal prep in the mornings so I'm not rushed after school activities. Gotta get it done when you have any chance!!
Instacart is amazing! I used it about 2 weeks ago. And the broth from Turkey or chicken carcasses is soooo good; love making it and it makes the house smell so good!
I totally covered my text books! What did you serve your family that night for dinner? Did you use one of the meals you prepped? That is always my struggle when I'm meal prepping or prepping things for the freezer....what to eat NOW! LOL!
I always keep a few onions sliced up in the freezer. They keep really well. Pull them out when you need them for stews etc. Also save all your onion ends and peels and veggie scraps in a bag in freezer for when you make stock.
I remember having to cover my text books and drawing peace signs and smiley faces and those little chain knots 🤣🤣🤣🤣 wow... thanks for that blast from the past! 🤣
Planning and cooking ahead is so smart, saves time and money. Even though we're empty nesters I still cook big..lol, so I try to think of how I can transform leftovers into different meals. I use leftover meatloaf like ground beef for another kind of meal, like you do, chop up the meat and vegetables of beef stew, add more beef bone broth and, voila!.. vegetable beef soup, etc. I also make pasta sauce from scratch and store it in a 2qt Mason jar in the fridge for a variety of meals. I've recently started ordering groceries online for pickup because if I'm in the store I over spend too. Love your videos! ps I buy ground beef 5 lbs at a time, break it down into 1 lb freezer bags and flatten each one for easier storage and faster thawing.
I'm alone now. Husband passed away and the kids are grown. I had a horrible time downsizing recipes after cooking for seven so I gave up. I cook for seven, freeze the rest in one person packing. I traded a bunch of quart canning jars for pint jars and now I can put up soups in the pint jars and process them so they are in the pantry. Before quart jars weren't big enough for soups and pre-made meals, needed them to can up the garden. Adjust and adapt :)
Charlotte Crosswhite I like your style, Charlotte! Thank you for sharing. I was taught from a young age to cook for a crowd and it was definitely hard when I moved out on my own to learn how to cook in smaller portions. Meal planning has done wonders for me. When I was in school the school required that we cover our books. Long time ago, so not sure if they still want them covered. We used the brown grocery bags...or we could buy covers in the school bookstore. Enjoyed this video. Good organization and meals!
Getting ready to make breakfasts and prep dinners for this week. We're moving the week of Thanksgiving so I'm trying to use up everything in my freezer and pantry!
LOL 😂 LOVE YOUR BLOOPERS!! It’s so real!!! NOW YOU NEED TO LEANR TO CAN!! LOL 😂 IM Looking forward to the turkey soup sounds like a good thing to do with the turkey leftovers in 2 weeks!! Reminded me I need carrots for my broth!! Take care 💕Shey
Yessss, I covered all my text books with the paper bag book covers. Yes, and the boyfriends name on it too lol I love Instacart. I use it often to order from Aldi. Thank you for this great video! love ya!!
Hey Kimmy, I always throw my frozen chicken in the instapot w/ chicken broth, quick & easy. Again thanks for sharing, I don't often comment, but do appreciate YOU !!!!! FROM YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS (IN MA, & TELL YOUR MA, HI) !!! TAKE CARE! HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY SEASON...... SANDY I HAD TO EDIT THIS TO COME BACK TO LET YOU KNOW I DO REMEMBER MAKING THE BOOK COVERS W/PAPER BAGS, ALONG W/THE GRAFITTI!
One thing I like to do when I make my own turkey or chicken stock is to puree some of the veggies and add them back to the broth. It thickens the broth and gives it that flavor as though it was leftover. All the flavors are incorporated. But warning: too much Carrot turns it all orange!! :) I love these videos!
Can you imagine if you listened to all those people who said Not to get a dog? I love Paige too and I have never met her. I am so glad your happy with her. We did the bags in school. The fun of it was writing on it. Onion skins use to be used for dyeing eggs. They do have color in them so I can see why they would make your broth darker.
I'm a working single mum with a child who has food allergies so I prep foods to keep in the fridge for a week to make it easier packing her nursery food for a day and my lunches for work that way I can be lazy during the week and just make dinner which I also just make extra of and save so we always have left overs she can have if she is extra hungry or wants a snack
OK it's kind of worrying about how short a time fridges last now a days, specially considering how much they cost. I've got a chest freezer from when I first moved out decades ago, but fridges now a days just die if you look at them funny.
I cook my bone broth in my crock pot for three to five days, adding water if necessary, when strained, makes the richest, healthiest broth and do not have to watch stove. Learned this on another utube. Very fantastic broth.
Great idea. I make turkey or chicken broth in my crockpot....usually overnight and make soup the next day. Sometimes I just freeze the broth to have on hand. This video reminded me I have a chicken carcasse in my freezer. Also have celery and potato I need to use up.
My kids still cover their text books with paper bags which I tend not to have because I use reusable bags. Glad their teachers make them do this. #lifelessons
Kimmy, one time you should try roasting the carrots, celery, and onion before you add them to your water for stock/broth. It adds a richer flavor and color. I also roast my vegetables before I make vegetable stock.
I used to make my own book covers allll the time..lmao I had to be able to draw on it and put my fave metal bands name in big bubble letters..lol I wish they still had the PeeCee folders!!!
Hi my dear try and let me know 😉 potatoes are sensitive to ethylene gasses, the reason to keep onions and potatoes apart has to do with moisture. Both onions and potatoes release moisture, which can lead to faster spoiling. It's best to store them separately in an area that has good air flow, is dry and somewhat cool. Love ❤️ your channel
Wish we had instacart where we live but we live about 30 mins from the “big” cities lol. Southern Illinois living lol. Can’t wait for your Thanksgiving haul!! It’s my favorite holiday!! I so remember covering my books in high school with paper bags lol 😂
if you always save the ends of the onionnand toss them inna bag innthe freezer eventually thats all youll need tonuse. once you stocknpile it. i know by the time i need to make stock again theres always enough in there for me i do the same withbcarrot ends and celery
Me too. I save my celery ends, carrot ends, and onion, celery, and carrots I don't use right before they go bad in a freezer bpa free container and add to stocks.

The best part of this video is seeing 2 people still in love after 20 years.. So rare these days :-D
My husband & I been together 22 years next March. Still love him as much, if not more ❤. Lucky to have found my soul mate.
They are adorable!
*Hey kimmy!!! I love this!!! You are such a BOSS🙌🏽 I absolutely love you! You are the best!❤️ thank you for collaborating with me!*

LOL! I totally get it. I used those bags for my books too!
Oh my goodness yes! Covered school books in paper bags. Decorated with stickers that were in a package with gum. I remember Garbage Pail Kids. Or something like that. It’s been a long time!!!!
Love your meal planning!!! I really need to do this. I hate having to plan dinner at the last minute!!!! Ty ty ty !!!!!
Yes! to covering books with the brown paper bags.. I also used to use the cartoon pages out of the newspaper then cover with clear contact paper ...

I used insta cart for Aldi last week and was amazed at the quality they picked and I saved money cause I ALWAYS buy more in the store
This is how I meal plan & do my shopping list. Just to say here in the UK, Shepherd's Pie is made with lamb mince. We use beef mince in cottage pie.
Thought for anyone with super busy schedules. (Y’all probably know this already 😊)

Followed..free to family, she is great love that shes keto and shares life. Not many keto vloggers share life ideas for families.
Starting the prep for my beef and bean burritos right now. You got me hooked on them. They are perfect for me to grab for lunches!!!!!
I totally covered my text books! What did you serve your family that night for dinner? Did you use one of the meals you prepped? That is always my struggle when I'm meal prepping or prepping things for the freezer....what to eat NOW! LOL!
I remember using the bags to cover our books!:) I live in Spokane Valley, WA.
I always keep a few onions sliced up in the freezer. They keep really well. Pull them out when you need them for stews etc. Also save all your onion ends and peels and veggie scraps in a bag in freezer for when you make stock.
I like to use paper bags on Christmas cookie baking day, they absorb any extra grease
Pam Yoder they are also handy for draining grease when frying ! Chicken, bacon, etc.
I really love your set up so you can what you need.
Kimmy, I love these type of videos! So helpful. Keep them coming 😊❤️
I covered my books with paper bags in middle school and high school. That all looks so yummy!
I'm alone now. Husband passed away and the kids are grown. I had a horrible time downsizing recipes after cooking for seven so I gave up. I cook for seven, freeze the rest in one person packing. Once I started doing that, the meal variety stacked up in the freezer and I only really cook every two weeks to keep the variety going.

I am so making your pumpkin pie ASAP. I don't normally like it, but I am very willing to try it!! :)
I know this has nothing to do with this video, but I have been thinking about it since you posted that prep video! LOL
Yessss, I covered all my text books with the paper bag book covers. Yes, and the boyfriends name on it too lol I love Instacart. I use it often to order from Aldi. Thank you for this great video! love ya!!

Having been a single mom with high-maintenance kids, I can totally relate to the idea that "lazy" = making dinner. You're rockin' it, Mum!
My mom use to mk pea soup all the time with ham. She never put veggies in it. I'm going to try your recipe.
I used to make my own book covers allll the time..lmao I had to be able to draw on it and put my fave metal bands name in big bubble letters..lol I wish they still had the PeeCee folders!!!
Thank you for sharing, can't wait to try 😁
When I was in school we had to cover all of our textbooks within one week of school starting..or face detention!!!!!
Yes!!!!
Hi my dear try and let me know 😉
potatoes are sensitive to ethylene gasses, the reason to keep onions and potatoes apart has to do with moisture. Both onions and potatoes release moisture, which can lead to faster spoiling. It's best to store them separately in an area that has good air flow, is dry and somewhat cool. Love ❤️ your channel
Love to cook our soups and casseroles in large batches. Freeze up single serving size.
She’s gonna shine in her last video 😆 Where did you get the chicken shredder from?
Pea soup is the way I get my oldest home for a visit 😁. He LOVES IT!! Just promise to send him home with some...and he's good!
Sue Stenstream once the pea soup is done can you freeze it?

Thanks for sharing with us great video
Dont storw onions and potatoes together. They spoil faster
Dena Aarom You are right. If stored together they do make each other spoil faster. I have started keeping whole onions in my fridge. They keep better.
Looks delicious
Going over to watch her meal prep now
