    @duh9355 10 месяцев назад +3

    I bet that if Guyana makes it out of this situation victoriously, in 10 to 20 years time they will use those 11 billion barrels of oil money to create a large military infrastructure; they do not currently poses a navy, their army is incredibly small, with only 3,400 active personnel, they only posses around 6 EE-9 Cascabel Brazilian armored vehicles, and they also lack a formal navy and air force, only having transport aircraft with no attack, reconnaissance, multirole, bomber, etc., in their inventory. With that oil revenue they can pack a larger and competent army, for example, neighboring Colombia posses a 360,000 personnel army with a Navy composing of 265 assets, an air force with 17 fighters, 36 attack, 83 transport aircraft and 211 helicopters, and a large set of armored vehicles (mainly for urban combat, excluding tanks, due the difficult terrain the country has it's quite impractical to have such a large amount of heavy armored vehicles), and they invested in all that with only ~3 billion barrels of oil revenue (still posses around 2.2 billion left to extract).

    I am Colombian, although I remain neutral in this type of conflicts, the claim of Venezuela towards that regin is legit. People forgot that Great Britain illegally appropriated that territory based on the outlines and maps of an insignificant botanist named Robert Schomburgk. and thus the British expanded their colonies towards what is Venezuela by principles of 'uti possidetis utis'. In addition, Spanish Guiana, especially Essequibo, also belonged to "Great Colombia" that existed between 1819 and 1830. Then the British settled that award arbitration of 1899 where Venezuela lost that territory and a few years later Venezuela had to accept it due to the situation of misery that it found at the beginning of the 20th century, the same as my Colombia due to the Thousand Day War, the separation of Panama. .
    After this small summary of history, Maduro and his government are not worth even half a bolivar, which is further below the basement of the valuation, they do it for mere political propaganda but history is what defends Venezuela. That is part of the legacy of the glorious British Empire whether you like it or not.

    • @publiusventidiusbassus1232
      @publiusventidiusbassus1232 10 месяцев назад +3

      Using Gran Colombia as a validation of Venezuela's claim is just irredentist nonsense. A 21st century sovereign nation should not be threatened by 19th century territorial claims from a state that doesn't even exist. That is the same argument used by Russia to try and annex ex-Soviet nations. Venezuela has no more right to Esequiba than Chile has to la Patagonia, or Bolivia and Peru to Northern Chile, or Colombia to Panama, or Mexico to California, or Paraguay to the lands taken by Argentina and Brasil, etc. 19th-20th century Latin America was absolute chaos, if we were to account for every messy territorial dispute we would all be in war. Jingoism needs to die in our times.
      Bad deals from over a century ago are as "illegal" as the European occupation on which all American nations were founded.
      Venezuelans don't want to go to war, and the people from Esequiba don't want to be Venezuelan. Even Chavez called the matter settled, it is only Maduro who wants war after the oil reserves skyrocketed Guyana's economy.
