I find it more engaging that you're not an English major. You allow the themes to be experienced without needing to pinpoint or analyze, and you come to each concept fresh, seeking and wandering a while, and that is so much of what makes reading as gratifying as it is. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I've had Song of Solomon on my shelf for a while, an old mass market paperback with the spine cracked and a few pages now loosened, but maybe this is the year I give it a shot. I hadn't realized how slim it is. Seems like the perfect starting point to get into such a renowned author.

Great job reviewing both of these books. I love Toni Morrison too, and Beloved is one of my all-time favorite novels. Margaret Garner is the name you were asking about; she's the real person that Sethe is based on. If you're interested, I did a video on Beloved about four months ago as part of the "Read 24 in 2024 Banned Book Challenge" because this is a book--like most of Morrison's--that is being frequently challenged in some parts of the country. I really enjoyed your earlier video, too, about James McBride, another author I really love. I'm not sure if you saw my comment on that video.
