They’ve been definitely tougher lately! I got a 7 myself today that was cracked out of a SGC 9 slab. They also recently changed their centering requirements to get a 10. 60/40 centering is now for a 9 and 55/45 is for a 10.
That wasn’t too bad. No reason why the first mini should have got an 8 though. A white border mini with good centering what could they see. I highly recommend if you have a really good card you pay for a higher service level. Seems to be the case that if you are sending a card that’s 1000 in PSA 10 for a 400 max value they will maybe think you don’t think it’s a 10 anyway otherwise you would of sent it at a higher level. In terms of dark back cards 100% don’t send them. Leaf actually started making most of their back corners transition to white for this reason. The topps Black gold is an impossible grade I just buy the 10 on those.
