RIGHT!!!!??!!!! Skin...GLOWING! Eyes...BRIGHT! Teeth...Colgate WHITE! Hair...THICK & HEALTHY! I wasn't listening because I was focused on the perfection that is in front of me. Sis is beautiful!
The only reason why oils are a problem is because the natural hair community likes to use sulfate free shampoos and don't clarify their hair enough when using thick butters, creams, and oil. I shampoo once a week with sulfates and I never have a problem with buildup.
Yes! The message should be wash your hair frequently and properly, not oils and butters are bad. People of other races use oils etc and they have no problem because their wash days are frequent unlike most black women. Oils a butters ar not moisturizers, water is moisture, we know that but oils and butters add nutrients. I feel like leading with no oils and butters are just for shock value.
@@thingsilove18 Right, and I have low porosity hair so I know my hair likes water based products, but I still have no problem occasionally oiling my scalp because I stick to a regimen that doesn't have me prolong wash days(mostly because my hair gets tangled and matted when I allow it to shrink for too long).
Exactly. I get the same result these stylist claim you cant get with oils and butters... I shampoo my hair every seven days then condition and follow up with shea moisture curl enhancing smòothie(greasy and oil heavy) and eco styler gel, hair last for 7 days and i can go longer but i commit to washing my hair every seven days so i dont. I have 4a hair. Before i couldnt get these results, I would only get one day hair, until i washed and conditioned every seven days and wear a bonnet once am not out, thats when things changed
I don't use sulfates but I shampoo once a week over and over again until my hair & scalp is completely clarified (usually like 3 times). It works for me, and I can use oils just fine
I noticed a few years into being natural that putting oil on my hair strands wasn't needed. I'm type 4, and found that wash and gos are just alot easier to maintain during the week. I use two products for styling. Uncle Funky's Daughter curly magic, and top it with Nature's Little Secret Irish moss styling cream. The results are always a moisturized, defined wash and go. Lasts for 5 to 7 days. I do use a little oil on my fingers to fluff out my hair in the mornings. Natural hair can be so simple. I was doing entirely too much early on.
I realized this once I loc'd my hair this year. All I use is shampoo and rose water (and sometimes aloe vera gel for my retwists) my hair stays so soft and moisturized. I felt lied too all these years as a natural thinking we "needed" a million products to keep our hair healthy. If I'm ever a loose natural again I'm never using oils and butters again.
💯 going on 5 year loc’d and I only use rose water and shampoo. My hair is light blows in the wind , I have thick locs, my hair is soft and moisturized by my scalps sebum. It’s crazy how we have been made to believe we need all this extra stuff outside ourselves to achieve what our body does naturally.
I literally only use shampoo and conditioner to wash my hair and later on twist it with leave- in with my hairs still wet (if I’m not braiding it myself). The only time I use oils is for my scalp, it doesn’t touch my hair. After years, my hair has finally surpassed my boobs
Mostly same- i use a few drops of sunflower oil after a wash just on my scalp. I used to be a product junkie now i’m a product minimalist and my locs are thriving!!
The loc method is actually perfect when you don't want to touch your hair between washes. With braidout and twistout the goal is to have your hair done for 7 days and not have to redo it. You also wont be adding water because that would ruin the style. So the goal is to give max hydration in one day and keep it in the hair with the butter and oils. If you love wash and go's or change hairstyles quite a bit in-between shampoos then this no oil method might work best because you can hydrate your hair when changing style or to refresh the style. It's not black and white and every method serves a purpose. If you use clarifying shampoos more than cowash the loc might work better for you, if it's the contrary the no oil method might suit you best. I agree with things you said but you have to look at the routine as a whole.
@@ellax325 Yeah for sure. They were made to maintain max hydration in your hair in one aplication so that you don’t have to touch it and be assured that it stays moisturised sooo… to each their own 🤷🏾♀️😌
This makes since. I shampoo my hair every 2 weeks with a clarifying shampoo. In between wash days I do the lco method and braid it up. I refuse to mess with my hair every day lol.
But one thing she said that I definitely agree with is actually washing your hair whenever you put oils or butter in your hair. Not co-washing your hair because that’s not cleaning it. When you put thick oils on your scalp you’re blocking the follicle of hair and slowing the process of growing your hair. Other than that I 100% agree with you.
The "natural community" has weird cult-ish vibes sometimes. It's like the idea that different things work for different people is a foreign concept to some.🤔Personally, my hair and scalp HATES oils, butters, even grease(like an allergic reaction) but according to the "natural community" it _should_ work and I should use them anyway because, "tHaT's WhAt oUr AnCesToRs uSeD foR cEntUrieS aNd iT wOrKeD FoR tHem" & "ThAt's whAt oUr mAma'S usEd WhEn wE wEre lIttlE aNd ouR hAir wAs tO tHe fLoOr".🙄I mean, that's cute, but my scalp said "Naw".✋🏾If it works for you cool, if it doesn't work for somebody else, why are getting your pressure up about it?🤷🏾♀️It ain't yo head!😂
So true! If anything I'm glad that there's different methods that work. I like having options. Personally, oils and thick creams never worked for me and I stopped using them years ago. They always made my hair frizzy and dry feeling. The only exception is when I do a twisting butter for twists/braidouts. But I'm mainly a wash and go girl. And I'm also confused on people acting like they HAVE to do what a youtuber / influencer says. "RUclipsrs ruined my hair!" "Stop telling me what to do!" Like girl they ain't your parents, calm down. You don't have to if you really don't want to.
So what you are saying is tat people have come up to you to tell you to usw oils and butters ecwn afer you have said you have an allergic reaction?????
everyone’s hair is different and they should do what works for them. but sometimes i think the natural hair community routines/randomly made up laws/hair growth secrets or whatever is so complicated for no reason. personally i’ve never used oils or butters. i’m a creature of habit and simplicity with my hair and only use Aussie Moist shampoo and conditioner. i just let me hair air dry with the conditioner in it and call it a day. now i get that won’t work for everyone but my hair has never looked/felt better
This is one thing I don’t like about the natural hair community. If someone have their own perspective or case on something that goes against the majority they’re attacked and dragged. So many ppl in the natural hair community can’t grow their hair passed a certain length are the main ones out here attacking ppl. They want to believe that there’s an easy way to make your hair grow faster when their RUclips methods are the reason why it’s not growing. Then the blame the product brands when it’s them themselves. I remember I got almost attacked for going against rice water. Now the same ones who attacked me are the ones saying that the rice water made their hair brittle and extremely dry. They don’t want to listen or even experiment. They don’t want to think that all of what they’re doing is a waste. They don’t want to be proven wrong after all this time. And I’m saying this in general.
My issue with the community is that people won’t let people do what works for them. This goes both ways with using oils or not using oils. People always have something to say. It’s just annoying.
@@irrelevance3859 righttt and sometimes it’s so ironic because ppl like saying “this works for me” yet argues why their method for hair is better like??? Ofc not everyone does this but I see a lot of ppl who do. They try “informing” or proving something that’s not backed up by science when it’s something that just works for them and that’s okay. 😭😭 let’s leave it at “and this works for me” like you said. But honestly I think many ppl need to experiment to see what actually works for them too. Some ppl be so ready to attack without trying a method.
It makes sense. I usually don’t use oils or butters on my hair and my hair reaches my bra strap. The only time I use oil is to add shine when my hair or ends look dry, which is maybe once or twice a month. Oil is more of a sealant so I try not to use it too much
I stopped with the raw oils and creamy products back in march when I learned it does nothing. Best decision ever and I cant believe the amount of $ I've saved.
I stopped oils and butters 9 years ago too.. best decision ever. I have tried kinky curly leave in, camille rose honey leave in, and mixed chicks gel when I was told gel is not the devil. Lol. I've liked my hair since doing this. What creamy type produce ts are you avoiding. What do you use?
People ALWAYS forget long hair doesn't mean healthy hair. I had long unhealthy, dehydrated hair. I'm sure a lot of you are ignoring this with your own long hair.
Some people like butters, oils, grease, natural products, chemical products, protective styles, not so protectiuve styles or no products at all. Everything in the natural community is as it should be and there is something there for every different natural so there is no need to criticize what you perceive to be positive or negative in the community. It goes with the territory.
Very true about using the whole product line. My mom is a hair stylist and she said this is key to the products working because they all compliment each other and when you swap products from different lines it defeats the whole purpose of that what that product line would have provided in targeting the specific hair care need that it stated to.
Yes. I stopped using oils and butters 9 years ago once I realized it just kept my hair dry and kept me jumping through hoops to please it. Now my hair is ALWAYS soft. Eta: I also dont use as much conditioner anymore. I used to use 1/4 a bottle after each wash. I now use a quarter size amount on each side and my hair is soooooo much the better for it.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. The RUclips community are a bunch of followers. The natural hair community is a dam joke. I come from an era where I used grease, Jamaican black castor and/or some water and my hair FLOURISHED! I also came from an era where if you decided to get a relaxer, there was no such thing as using a blowdryer or flat iron for the styling phase. A regular rollerset and wrap will do, and relaxed hair, while following these steps made my hair flourish as well. All these oils and butters are not supposed to be in your hair, I don't know who is telling these young girls this foolishness and quite frankly I will not take any hair advice from someone who's been growing their hair for half the number of years that I've been on earth. With wisdom comes experience.
I disagree, i think we all have different heads of hair and live in different environments so different things may work. Years ago I tried to cut out oils and butters and my hair did not appreciate it. Although I can't remember what styling products I was using at the time, so that could be the problem. I don't think oils are necessarily the problem, more that a lot of naturals are are adverse to properly cleaning their strands. Either they wait to long between washes, use a conditioner to "clean" their hair or they only use shampoo on the scalp. For me I shampoo once a week, sometimes it may stretch to 10 days and very rarely have to remoisturise between washes. Leave-in conditioner + shea butter mix works for me.
“I come from an era where I used grease, Jamaican black castor and/or water and my hair FLOURISHED” “all these oils and butters aren’t supposed to be in your hair” Jamaican black castor is an oil and a thick one rated 2 in potential to clog pores. That is a contradiction you’ve stated as oils were always a thing since before this “natural hair movement”.
Yeah my next wash I'm going back to grease. That's all my mom used and by 9 my hair was almost waist length. "Dookie" braids and grease 😅. When I got older I started cutting my hair and all that. When I went natural and used oil, my hair is dry. When I practiced with grease, completely different story. Plus, I'm not a product junkie so it's for the best.
@@GetPrettyWithPuff I just switch between what my mom use to use. Dax and Blue Magic. Those two are pretty good. Super Gro good too. Omg I remember Sulfur 8. I have one but haven't used it. But when my mom used it on me it was like once every other week? I have eczema, so too much of sulfur made me itch.
Honestly I have type 4 hair and I never used oils because I am lazy. I don’t want to research what kind to use and mix and lalala I just never had the motivation to do so. I use the brand Pattern for my hair (shampoo, conditioner, leave in) and honestly my hair is better than it’s ever been before. I also spray a bit of water on my hair each morning. Edit: I’d like to add when I was mixing brands and products together I remember being so stressed bc I felt like nothing worked on my hair!! But it was honestly bc I was doing TOO much. Being a product junkie will do you more harm than good in my opinion.🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
I have not been using oils and butters for a while now and I aint going back~ I know a lot of ppl will say this aint gonna work for me, but they should try it. Professionals just trying to help us out.
I use oil and a moisturizer to seal the moisture. I style my hair. I normally wear braids for 2 to 3 months. My hair is shoulder length and growing fine. I moisturize my scalp twice a week while it is in the braids.
I wanted to completely disagree with this concept, but since I stopped using heavy shea butter in my hair the excessive tangling has stopped and wash days are no longer daunting!
I'm a natural (been for years now and still learning about my hair) but...yea I haven't used oils and butters in a while...granted that's me. You have to learn about your OWN hair like I had to for mine. I'm thankful for the hair community to give advice, tips and so forth. But you will learn quick that not every product works the same for everyone, and sometimes it ain't the product, it's that you don't know how to use it properly.
I don't disagree with you, but I think saying we should not be using oils, butters, and grease is slightly extreme. If your moisturizer is good enough, then it will keep your hair moisturized for a long time because moisturizers are formulated with oils, butter, and water based liquids. But adding butter on top of moisturized hair will drastically slow down the rate of evaporation of water. But ofcourse once that water evaporates, its gone for good, and you can't remoisturize on top of hair with butter already so another wash will be needed. I see it like this; if you don't use oils or butters, you'll probably have to remoisterize let's say every 4-5 days but if you use oils and butters that moisture can last around 10 days let's say. But the key is you are able to remoisturie your hair without that much product build up if you don't use oils and butters but if you do use them, you have to shampoo before you remoisturize. So it's almost like pick your poison, remoisturize every 5 days without having to shampoo in between, or wash every 10 days? I opt to wash my hair every 2 weeks with using oils and butters.
I remember this hair drama coming and going while I just watched it go by. People really need to stop being so invested in other people's hair. Let's all just "live and let live".
You know what I think the problem is. We focused only on one need of our hair. Our hair have multiple needs. Its like our body.. we need water to hydrate and live but we also need food, vitamins, fibre... multiple things. What we need is a balance of things. Our hair shaft naturally produce oils(sebum) but because of the nature of our hair it does not reach the whole hair length. Why would your try to omit that. Why would you try to omit that function that create a barrier on our hair. We need that barrier because of environmental factors etc. You can just re hydrate your hair on the next was day. Ladies there is a difference with dry and dehydrated hair
I agree. I think there is definitely a balance that can and should be reached. Also listen to your hair it will let you know what it needs. I was a heavy user of 🥥 oil because of influencers but quickly realized my hair was not happy with this so I stopped using it and use Jamaican black castor oil which my hair absolutely loves in moderation of course.
Thank you. Last time I checked, hair skin and nails are all close to sebaceous glands. Moisture is not the only factor to hair growth. Some hair types need more lubrication than others. And take note, the no oils no butters group are doing wash and go's. If they were rough handling their hair everyday using combs doing braids, it would be different.
I haven't used anything like oils or butters in about twenty five or so years. My scalp produces oil and my hair has never felt dry since. I think they're just trying to sell stuff.
wowwww that's why my hair is never dry. i wear wigs A LOT and i put Wild Growth Oil in my scalp and olive oil on my strands and i don't touch it for 2 weeks lol. oils and butters just weigh your hair down imo
You often hear people trying this and going back to the old ways after one try because their hair was dry and frizzy. They don't realize their hair isn't detoxed from the oild and butters after one wash and that they advice 3 weeks for a reason. I did my 3th wash without leave-ins, creams etc today and my hair was an absolute dream. I was able to wear my hair out all week (which wasn't the case before) and during the wash I barely had any tangles. During the first week of trying this I had washed my hair on a saturday and it had exploded and was super frizzy on tuesday (which wasn't normal for me at all with my previous hair care habits). You have to stick to it for a longer period AND increase your skillset on this new way of doing your hair. It takes some getting used to, it makes sense you don't get it right at the first try.
Another thing is if you’re an avid oil user, you need to give it time. On the first wash day of not using oil, your hair will probably feel dry. Give it 30 days which is about 4 wash days when you wash every week.
All I hear from this trend is, “ Hi, I shy away from sulfates, or any other perfectly build-up stripping shampoo, and because of that, when I go back to add AAAAAAAAALL THE WOOOOORLD RENOWNED, CENTURIES PROVEN, NUTRITIOUS AND BENEFICIAL BUTTERS AND OILS that’ve grown Afro hair perfectly well from jump - at the end of a wash…well…everything, all the product just sits on my leftover build up, refusing to penetrate, nourish, strengthen, repair and help retain the hydration of my hair shaft…” 🥺 …There’re tooooooooo many black women with perfectly, thick, long, healthy hair for me take this seriously. No judgement on anyone it’s working for
I’m not giving up my oils and butter. My hair has grown since I used olive oil and Shea butter. I went from a big chop to long hair. You do what works for you and I do what works for me. I’m so tired of natural hair gurus telling us what to do with our hair. Everyone’s hair is different.
I agree with you. No need for RAW unformulated ingredients. Also another unpopular opinion: I don’t think we need to douse out hair in water before styling. Wash and go’s on dry hair gives more definition. Try it !
I think it depends on what the hair wants. I use hair grease on my scalp and a dime size on hair and so far so good. I just pick up the routine my Mom used to do for my hair as a kid.
I have never used oils and butters. The only exception was a small bit of olive oil if I wanted to prolongs wash day. Other than that. I couldn't understand why everyone was doing this and it never worked for me.
Im so tired of the rules. If you feel like grease works better great. if you feel like oils and butters dont work well on your hair great. if you feel like flat ironing your hair, great. the natural hair community was started to EMBRACE and share tips and knowledge to each other but now its starting to remind me of a cult. say something that goes against the “big statement” you get drag
I’m so happy I came across this channel. I don’t even have money to afford all these products so what I do is whenever I’m taking my bath I just pour water on my hair at least 5 times in a week
Done been not using oils and butters since I couldn't figure out how girls used creams and gels at the same time so I'm likeee lemi just skip a step and spray it daily.....
I stopped using products in my hair all together beside shampoo and conditioner and my hair has grown so much. I got the idea from my dad. He doesn’t do much to his hair and he has to cut his hair monthly because it grows so fast! His hair is thick, full not a single grey hair at the age of 39.
I also think that if cosmetologist i.e. the women who started this should have said stop using relaxers, but they didn't!!! Then when we do on our own and start businesses, they come up with this!!!!!!!!!!!
I did the no oils or butters for almost 2 months. I guess I have 4C hair (I hate hair typing) and it changes how my hair looked and felt. I found out that the oils and butters were drying out my hair, causing a lot of the product build up and resulting in hair breakage. Now, I use a good shampoo, conditioner and leave-in. My hair has never looked better and healthier. I love it over here, but do what works for you and your hair. Us naturalistas need to stop being so judgmental of what works for others. There is no one thing that works. But, I know our hair needs to breathe and be detoxed from all those products we pile on it.
Wow. My hair hair has grown SO much over the last three years and I did not connect it to this! I randomly saw a video about only putting oil on your scalp and that’s I did. Didn’t know it was helping. But I oil maybe my scalp randomly like one a month. This makes so much sense.
Nice informative video 👏 I would also recommend 1.stop 🛑using silicone based conditioners ( silicone coats the hair/scalp) 2. stop 🛑sulfate based shampoos ( sulfate strips essential oils from hair/scalp) 3. Stop 🛑 using harmful chemicals like parabens, chemical colorings, formaldehyde, petroleum-based, & mineral oil, 4. I also stop 🛑using gels that have the ingredient *****"triethanolamine" ***** the ingredient irritate and created a slightly burn sensation to my scalp. Good luck 👍 💓
Oils aren't the key at all. You should use a detangler, leave in conditioner- anything water base. Oils just sit on the hair and don’t detangle. Anyway you don’t have to use anything at all. Sebum is enough, but you have to decide how defined you want your curls.
I have a condition, My skin and scalp won't create sebum, but I wonder if we create a product closer to sebum for hair and scalp or use other people sebum
@@LilReg5840 Yep, there are definitely products that act like sebum. I use FoxyBae Love In Cream Conditioner. Find any leave in cream conditioner that's water base and your hair will glide through anything (and scalp will be moisturized). No oils. Water and cream. You can even use milk to condition your scalp.
I've failed my hair so much you guys😥 I have thin 3c 4a hair and lemme just say, it is sooooooooo difficult taking care of it when you broke and just don't know what products to get for it, so guess what I did, BOUGHT A FLAT IRON! Jesus Christ. My ends are so damaged I'm literally livid!!!!!!! Welp
This is in response to your “we’re breaking up” video. I just wanted to give a perspective. When it comes to dating we walk into relationships with this idea that the person we fall in love with and make memory’s with is going to be the person that we spend our life with. While that’s sounds oh so lovely lol The reality is that we truly don’t know. We put such a huge burden on ourselves walking into relationships with that mindset. Some people will spend their life together, but many of us are simply in temporary relationships. Whether it’s 1 year, 5 years or 10. Just look at the many people around you and the breakups or the forced relationships that should probably end, but their so stuck on the fact that they’ve put so much time in and need to continue doing so even though they are not happy. While security is lovely it can also be an illusion because life never happens the way we think it will. You have to truly search your heart and first ask yourself “ do i truly see myself building the life that I want for myself in the next couple of years with this man?”. If yes, then going to Korea is probably the best choice. But then you have to ask yourself “If I go to Korea, will I be okay with possibly ending up single while I’m there? Am I willing to embrace this very real possibility and grow through it? If we move back to the states and eventually break up will I be able to appreciate the memories and lessons we had together and brace myself for what/who’s next in my life?” If the answer is yes, then go. It’s okay. I think your boyfriend is on the right track with the idea of not dating with the intention only to marry. I’ve said the same thing for years lol. Time apart and living single and dating may be great for you both. Maybe reconnecting later on will be the perfect time for a new chapter together. And that’s perfectly okay. Be open.
I tried this and for the first few says was that ny hair was sooooo soft. I moisturised every two days. Then one day i went to moisturise my hair and it felt crispy. I was heartbroken. I then moisturised and added oil and my hair has gone back to its normal softness.
@@jaminwaite3867 Yes, I did a bantu knows the other day using hair grease and a leave in conditioner and my curls were🔥🔥🔥🔥. I will be sharing my results.
New subscriber. This is a really good video. I started washing my hair once a week and my hair is more softer and moisturized. I wear two strand twist most of the time. I used to seal my hair with a oil after I was finish doing my hair, but I do not do that anymore. I noticed one day when I did add oil to my hair. It ruined my hairstyle when I was wearing a twistout. My scalp is usually dry as well, but my scalp has been doing better as well.
Yeah idk, I can't let go of ayurvedic oils. They definitely have been a game changer for my hair. I can understand not using oils for wash and go's but it's definitely needed for protective styles
Hair grease and water is my go to ingredients. I say do what works for you. No pressure. You can add water then oil instead of oil then water. I don't think this method is for everyone. If your hair produces a lot of oil, then this should be good to try. If your hair doesn't produce much, then I would say don't try this method. Thanks for sharing❤️.
You are so beautiful! The information you presented makes sense, but it may not work on everyone’s hair. Obviously, it’s working for you. Thanks for sharing.
I had to come and comment because you are one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen in my life your face structure it modeling was a thing it would be your face you're here you're so beautiful and then listening to your voice and your personality just adds on to it not like screwed up black man that always say oh you pretty for a dark-skinned girl know you're beautiful for a woman your skin is flawless
Your hair is beautiful 😍 Thank you for this! I have been watching tons of videos on this topic and I’m going to give the detox a try for my hair. I know that everything natural is different and has their own experiences. I’m going to document my experience on my channel 🖤
Tbh, I think it’s all a matter of what works for you. People in the natural hair community think that everything they say is gospel. All of a sudden after people have been using oils for YEARS, it’s suddenly a cardinal sin to use them. Oils and butters work for my hair, it makes it less dry, and it makes my hair thrive. The natural hair police, and these so called “specialists” should just focus on what works for their hair.
True however the most important thing I think we all can take aways is that we need to let our scalp breathe..at least that's what ill try to do differently now
Question: If the water is able to evaporate out of sealed (with oil) hair, why can't it come back in? Because, If I wet my hair after applying an oil on my strands, my hair will still absorb the water as it will visibly start laying down because of the water...So I guess that's what's confusing me. Also, the issue of the oil can easily be fixed by cleansing your hair properly...(Ps. I only use coconut oil as my prepoo and a small amount of oil when i'm taking down my braids.)
I dont know man. I never used much oil because my scalp is sensitive but I've known girls who only used hair grease and water and had hair to their bums. It really is a "do what works for you" kind of thing. Just like peoples skin is different. Some of us have sensitive, acne prone or oily skin. Naturally we can't all use the same skincare. So this logic should apply to hair as well.
Excellent Video I figured that shit was lies. My aunts used grease n I didn't see them use it everyday either. They long American Indian hair!! Looked almost straight. Beautiful hair. My hair needs hydration and it gets dry.
People ask me what i do for me or my son and give me attitude.. stares... rolling of them eyes when i share the information i use for hair... why ask me shit .... i use to go through alot i had thicj long reddish blonde hair my mom did her best as i got older i figured out my own texture less is best but deep conditioner old school grease... liv... etc
Could you do a wash n go tutorial so we can see what you do? I used to do wash n go's a lot, but the problem was that my hair would knot up so easily. Now, I do twist outs which is great because they last a long time before I have to wash and restyle. It also reduces the knotting. But when I did wash n go's and when I do twist outs, there are times when my hair just looks dry no matter the frequency of water or the kind of products I use.
My stylist said that a lot of single strand knots she's seen are related to not getting hair regularly trimmed. I think making sure you've had a recent trim and clarified the hair before starting a hydration regimen is key. then get on a schedule of regularly cleansing and conditioning the hair. I partnered with a stylist to get trims a couple times a year. But I would do what's more affordable for you. My hair used to behave like this when it was dehydrated. But when I started regularly cleansing and conditioning, detangling was easier. And when I wanted to achieve more definition in my styles it's also much easier.
@@kathleenadeshoga8415 Thank you, I will look into this. I do get regular trims, but with Covid, things have been different. But Adeshoga, are you a Naija sista? lol
@@nigeriansista I've been doing the hydration journey with just twists and my twist outs look so much better and laughs at the humidity! I didnt think it was possinke. I was a cookout the other weekend and my twist out looked great in 80% humidity after 5 hours. I love it here 😭😭
Honestly this Logic is obviously not for everyone. Its not a fade. Its simple hair care. Its directed towards people that have still not hit their goals whatever it may be -> healthy hair, long hair, simplicity e.t.c. Everything else before this was just plain ridiculous. The most ridiculous of them all were the CHEBE craze, AMBUNU, Rice Water , Max Hydration with the Cherry lola and washing hair with baking soda alternating with ACV or Bentonite clay but no shampoo. SHAMPOO WAS THE DEVIL!! HAHAHA! You literally had to do 8 steps to get defined curls (4c hair) which would only last a day. Those were the days. I just sat, watched AND WAS highly entertained whilst it lasted!! This is the only thing I am actually trying. I had stopped using oils a long time but didn't realise it. I had and still have stack and stacks of oil sitting in my bathroom. All the olive, avocado, coconut and grapeseed oils I have moved into the kitchen. I was actually using Uncle Funky as a leave in and styler after each wash. The only thing I needed to do was get a cleaner shampoo and conditioner. For some reason this no oil and butter is receiving a lot of hate. I think that the whole Chebe thing for women in the WEST was just completely ridiculous. Us black Women applying that mud like stuff on our hair and then wearing a wig? The foolery. It cannot be maintained on a long term basis. It just cant. Make it make sense. Ofcoarse for the women in CHAD this works and fits in with their lifestyle. Is anyone still using CHEBE ?????
I really enjoyed your video and I've also seen the scientific vids backing up why not to use oil and butter. Moreover, I recently washed my hair and tried not to use my sealant (Castrol oil) after twisting my hair. However 4 days after not using it my scalp was getting incredibly itchy and it was hurting so I put a light amount of oil only on my scalp. Is it because my scalp is not used to being without oil is the reason it got dry and itchy? I just wanted to know because I really do want to go without the oil however the castor oil makes my scalp feel normal?... (Also I love all your videos ! Have a nice day).
Hey, if you're like me, you may have this feeling of tightness, itchiness and pain when reducing or stopping adding oils to your scalp. This is likely because of the withdrawal. I've found that this eventually went away and my scalp starting increasing its own sebum production. It is possible you need to give it some time especially since you've been using such a heavy oil. However, if you were prescribed any treatments from doctors or other healthcare professionals for your scalp I'd suggest just continuing to do that. Just a tip if you want to continue with using less oils/no raw oil in your haircare
Some things just sound like common sense. If ones hair is dry i.e lacking hydration, how would an oil (a literal sealant/lubricator) would hydrate the hair rather than water? Like?????? It’s not rocket science 🙄🙄🙄🙄. I personally am a very minimal natural. I wash my hair when I feel it needs to be washed (usually once or twice a month or two months) and I just use water and olive oil or coconut oil, putting water first and the an oil that seals the ends.
Castor oil and grease was how I got my hair to waist length before it got too much for me to take care of in college. I was also relaxing my hair back then, so it really is just what works for you.
I mean it'll take forever for the natural sebrum to come back after years and years of life. The scalp is producing less. . Also it's harder for kinky hair for the sebrum to get down the shaft to the ends. But I think the natural hair community had ppl buying tons crap no one needs. You don't need 100s of products. One or two is fine.
My God, you are stunning.
There are moments where I'm not listening. I'm just mesmerized by her beauty.
She really is! 😍
🥺 guys
I was coming on here to say the same thing ! Just stunning !
Amen!
Literally it can be so simple!!!
I agree. I def need the butters because my hair is virtually always in twists.
I refuse to mess with my hair every day lol.
beautifully said!!
Exactly! I'm mixed. My mom uses oils and it works great. Oils (and gels) fu ck up my hair so I avoid them.
What do you mean allergic reactions?
bc I think I might be allergic to some oils but I’m not sure
everyone’s hair is different and they should do what works for them. but sometimes i think the natural hair community routines/randomly made up laws/hair growth secrets or whatever is so complicated for no reason. personally i’ve never used oils or butters. i’m a creature of habit and simplicity with my hair and only use Aussie Moist shampoo and conditioner. i just let me hair air dry with the conditioner in it and call it a day. now i get that won’t work for everyone but my hair has never looked/felt better
Woah! Iv never heard of not rinsing out the conditioner, unless it's a leave in
@@sandybrownonytgotta do what works for you
This is one thing I don’t like about the natural hair community.
I think criticism can be how we grow. I agree with your majority point though
The only statement I’ve seen with reasoning.
Very true about using the whole product line. My mom is a hair stylist and she said this is key to the products working because they all compliment each other and when you swap products from different lines it defeats the whole purpose of that what that product line would have provided in targeting the specific hair care need that it stated to.
Exactly!!
You mean “with age comes experience/wisdom” you are clearly quite silly
@@kaydeep7880 fool, please google the term, "wisdom comes from experience."
Plus, I'm not a product junkie so it's for the best.
what kind of grease do you use? 👀 do you use Sulfur 8?
@@GetPrettyWithPuff I just switch between what my mom use to use. Dax and Blue Magic. Those two are pretty good. Super Gro good too. Omg I remember Sulfur 8. I have one but haven't used it. But when my mom used it on me it was like once every other week? I have eczema, so too much of sulfur made me itch.
@@graciousgrace7509 nope, it's thicker and more dense than oil. and you only use it on your scalp
Make sure to use clarifying shampoo's or sulfate shampoo to fully get the grease out of your hair before resealing the moisture.
Facts!
agreed about the product junkie part!
It makes sense. Our body needs water and moisture.
I learned when I got locs that OIL does not MOISTURIZE! I will oil my scalp if extremely necessary but that’s it
I have not been using oils and butters for a while now and I aint going back~ I know a lot of ppl will say this aint gonna work for me, but they should try it. Professionals just trying to help us out.
I use oil and a moisturizer to seal the moisture. I style my hair. I normally wear braids for 2 to 3 months. My hair is shoulder length and growing fine. I moisturize my scalp twice a week while it is in the braids.
I do the same. Oils are needed for protective styles
The part about mixing different products together is so true i stopped doing that recently and using just one set of products works for me💗💗
I wanted to completely disagree with this concept, but since I stopped using heavy shea butter in my hair the excessive tangling has stopped and wash days are no longer daunting!
Same.
SAME. I made a whole DIY Whipped shea butter concoction just to finally accept that it's not for me lol it's too heavy.
I’ve been stopped using oils and butters. Y’all are clogging your pores and weighting your hair down.
Please repeat that for the people in the back that didn't hear you
I don't disagree with you, but I think saying we should not be using oils, butters, and grease is slightly extreme.
Some ppl can go 10-14 days without using raw ingredients and just use hair products with oils snd butters formulated into them it's all preference.
I remember this hair drama coming and going while I just watched it go by. People really need to stop being so invested in other people's hair. Let's all just "live and let live".
agreed
@@verodxd yes. I prefer castor oil myself
I stopped using oils and butters and my hair is actually hydrated now, I’m never going back
I haven't used anything like oils or butters in about twenty five or so years.
Try it !
I’ll give it a try. After all, I went through all the other phases promoted here…
haha let us know how it goes!
I think it depends on what the hair wants. I use hair grease on my scalp and a dime size on hair and so far so good. I just pick up the routine my Mom used to do for my hair as a kid.
It does work. It’s the hydration method. I haven’t used oils or butters since March. And my hair is the most moisturized it’s been!
Your hair is beautiful, thank you for the info. Would love to see a hair routine video.
coming soon!
I stopped using products in my hair all together beside shampoo and conditioner and my hair has grown so much. I got the idea from my dad. He doesn’t do much to his hair and he has to cut his hair monthly because it grows so fast! His hair is thick, full not a single grey hair at the age of 39.
I tried this and i loved it!! I realised my hair doesn’t like to be loose tho. It just tangles up like crazy ..🥺🥺🥺
I was against her video as well..... Until I tried it.😊 My wash n gos and braids outs feel and look great! 🤧I also don't use gel anymore either!
I love my butter and oil. Not stopping no way.
It’s only a matter of time before Thee RUclips Algorithm really takes off with your channel and you get POPPIN poppin. Love to see it. :)

My African self lives by shea butter... my hair without a butter/oil would be hell...my 4c high porosity would never...but do you boo...
I was opposed to this no butter and oils trend, but now I’m going to give it a try!💕
okayyy go Jaden! Lmk how it goes
@@KelsiasDiary will do sis!🤍
This makes so much sense, thank you!
Yes there are things that cause hair growth. Just because you have not found them does not mean it is not true.
Yall peep how beautiful she is and ma'am your skinnnn is glowingggg ✨😍
1) you’re so pretty!!! 2) you explained this perfectly 🤗
🤭🤭...just came across your channel and I’m loving it!!! My worrrrrd🤭❣️
Thank you 🙄 I hate when people do that.
do you babes
True however the most important thing I think we all can take aways is that we need to let our scalp breathe..at least that's what ill try to do differently now
I'm following the ancestors lol.
You and your hair are so beautiful 😍
Thank you so much 😀
Question: If the water is able to evaporate out of sealed (with oil) hair, why can't it come back in? Because, If I wet my hair after applying an oil on my strands, my hair will still absorb the water as it will visibly start laying down because of the water...So I guess that's what's confusing me. Also, the issue of the oil can easily be fixed by cleansing your hair properly...(Ps. I only use coconut oil as my prepoo and a small amount of oil when i'm taking down my braids.)
It can. Oil can only slow down the evaporation and penetration rate, and it cannot cover the full surface area of your hair, so water can still pass.
Honestly her hair looks good so I might have to try it.
Oils and butters irritate my scalp. Threw them all out
I dont know man.
Your hair will go regardless. It’s about retaining the length and that begins with your ends. Hair growth is genetic. :)
Excellent Video I figured that shit was lies. My aunts used grease n I didn't see them use it everyday either. They long American Indian hair!! Looked almost straight. Beautiful hair. My hair needs hydration and it gets dry.
oils and butter are not supposed to be used for moisture, it’s supposed to be used to LOCK moisture in
People ask me what i do for me or my son and give me attitude.. stares... rolling of them eyes when i share the information i use for hair... why ask me shit .... i use to go through alot i had thicj long reddish blonde hair my mom did her best as i got older i figured out my own texture less is best but deep conditioner old school grease... liv... etc
I never use oil directly on my hair. I do use it on my scalp. I use a craem (hair milk or sealing cream) and a gel
can we have a wash and style routine video?? your hair is so pretty!!
Kelsia is gorgeous!
The hair style is cute, please teach us🥺
Could you do a wash n go tutorial so we can see what you do? I used to do wash n go's a lot, but the problem was that my hair would knot up so easily. Now, I do twist outs which is great because they last a long time before I have to wash and restyle. It also reduces the knotting. But when I did wash n go's and when I do twist outs, there are times when my hair just looks dry no matter the frequency of water or the kind of products I use.
I will!
But Adeshoga, are you a Naija sista? lol
@@nigeriansista girl yas! 😂😂😂 I love meeting other naija queens!
@@nigeriansista I've been doing the hydration journey with just twists and my twist outs look so much better and laughs at the humidity! I didnt think it was possinke. I was a cookout the other weekend and my twist out looked great in 80% humidity after 5 hours. I love it here 😭😭
The meille organics deep conditioner actually meet in your click actually meets your criteria.
Have a nice day).
if you need a specific oil for your dry scalp use it just dont clog it and avoid putting it on your hair strands.
@@KelsiasDiary Thankyou for the helpful tip!
Your skin is smooth as butter ❣️💅🏾
Some things just sound like common sense. If ones hair is dry i.e lacking hydration, how would an oil (a literal sealant/lubricator) would hydrate the hair rather than water? Like?????? It’s not rocket science 🙄🙄🙄🙄. I personally am a very minimal natural. I wash my hair when I feel it needs to be washed (usually once or twice a month or two months) and I just use water and olive oil or coconut oil, putting water first and the an oil that seals the ends.
You're a beauty.
Thank you, sis! Thank you!
yeah i stopped just off the strength that i didn’t like the way my hair felt lol great video girl
The sebum will come back in a day. Lmao. Go to the gym and sweat. Open your pores. Then rinse your hair with only water. There you go.
Thank you for this video, it changed my life 😊❤️
Thanks for doing this video!
Thanks for the info! You are really beautiful btw :)
No problem 😊
