  • This classic manual bread slicer combines nostalgia with modern German design, making toast or a sandwich made with your own fresh bread, a whole lot easier.

I have a very efficient bread slicer that fits in my knife block.

When you think of bread cutting machine, Gökalp Makine comes to mind. Ankara in Turkey

I bought one of these and I know why this video keeps cutting away just before the bread slice is about to bend over and fall free. I fixed the problem with a VERY simple additional piece that I added to the machine. I outline what the piece is and how easy it was to add here. ruclips.net/video/yhzN9M4jbs8/видео.html
This is a really great device - except that without adding the piece I added, it's very frustrating to use. I have no idea why the manufacturers didn't add this piece themselves other than to guess that they must never have tested the machine a single time trying to cut bread. If they had, they would definitely have known that their machine needed this one final piece to make it work great.

@Dr. Pyssinshytz Your right it does. I apparently didn't notice that one when I was watching. The rest all cut away. That first piece was a bread of lower height and seemed pretty dense (as to not bend much). Having use this tool for many loaves, I can definitely vouch for the need of a guide to be added. I found out later that they do offer a higher price model in chrome and it does have a guide made of a bit of wire. One has to pay and additional $50 for that wire though. I really think it was a mistake to offer this machine without the guide at all. With the guide, it's amazingly effective, easy to use, and very safe. Without a guide, it's troublesome to use, slightly dangerous as one's mind is focusing on the bread not catching in the crank (vs. paying attention to the blade and fingers), and the bread slices never come out cleanly as one has to operate the crank in a less than smooth manner to avoid it hitting the slices. I think it was a real mistake to release it without the guide - especially since the guide is such a low-tech cheap addition to the product.

Can this be used to slice meat and cheese too?

It certainly can. Cheese might make the cutter a bit dirty and be a bit of a pain to clean. But it'd work.
