  • As it relates to ending chronic pain or other chronic symptoms, many people focus solely on feeling emotions, journaling or some other emotional discovery or trauma work. While it is important, it's not the only factor in recovery. Let's chat about this.

      Keep it up. You do have this. The faster you get to the place of calm reassurance and lower the fear, the faster this relapse will end.

    Love this. Needed this. Today was considering following a program - Schubiner's- in unlearn your pain, and was suddenly freaked out by the kind of emotional work it was calling for- even though he said it wasn't necessary to do all, but the perfectionist in me wasn't sure what to do.
    So then, I prayed and in my heart received the answer that I should focus on knowledge and calming my brain down in how I relate to the symptoms because there is nothing wrong with me. Then, once that is established, to add emotional expression work if I see fit.
    (Also the last time I did emotional work it was brutal and I'm not sure it helped my symptoms much, so I was afraid to go back in there and journal myself into a depression-like you said, and without therapeutic support that makes me even more nervous).
    Got up and clicked on this right after praying. This video has hit that hammer on the nail. Thanks, Dan!! I'll continue to focus on knowledge and safety.

    Great video as I know the stress/emotional overload that created my pain are well resolved. I now need to focus on safety messages and snoothing when pain/sensations are at play. I do feel improvement when I just get up and do the things I need to do despite experiencing pain which is challenging but getting there gradually. Many thanks 😊🙏

    Last night I woke up from a not too particularly scary dream but I was in the fight or flight thing. P was saying helllo! I’m like oh shit not at 2:30 am lol so I quietly when to another room grabbed some chocolate and watched Seinfeld. It took a couple of episodes with Kramer and I was feeling safe lmao I went to bed . Love ya Dan your my guru hero . Safety I believe it . I just keep on doing normal activities. I ran this morning and I felt better after the run then before. 🦦🙌

    My pain started Oct 2108 when my very sick baby grandson was born he died March 2019 and then I started bladder problems in July 2019 when my son kicked off at me in anger on the phone and many angry texts since and still does and not seen him since funeral April 2019. He has new baby girl healthy last Sept and not seen her or my son so it's ongoing and have more and more pain as each month goes by due to the fear of never seeing him again or meeting my granddaughter. Unresolved and unsolvable so my pain will never go them and will probably get worse. I try to tell myself this a choice in how I deal with all this but I am broken and think of nothing else all day so pain never let's up. Hard to be busy when carrying all this pain physical and emotional . Dark dark thoughts most days. No life for me. Wish I could accept situation and move on. The physical pain is a reminder all day every day and every waking moment. Tried to tell my son in text how much I am struggling but he just says that it was him that lost his baby and it's not all about me. :(

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  3 года назад

      Julie - here is what I will say. I would suggest you not tell yourself that your pain will keep on getting worse over time. It's TMS and does not need to get worse. You do not need to resolve the heartache to end your TMS. You can still teach your brain that despite the wild emotions, you don't need the physical pain. Feel the heartache, sadness, anger and even RAGE. But be very clear that you CAN end the physical pain despite the emotional pain.

      @@PainFreeYou Thank you Dan for that lovely response. I really want to believe it is possible to overcome the pain for me so I can have sort of life. Good idea to rage I think it is very pent up as so depressed and it is said that depression is often anger turned inwards and I do feel very angry although I would not say it to my son. I do feel like punching him at times! Not useful but would feel better! Of course it's not what I would do I just want to hug him but do feel rage towards him. Wish I did kick boxing or similar to get it out as I know it is stuck in me.

    I have a question I know severe people with severe cfs/me who are very malnourished look really unwell. Can tms make someone look and be so sick?

    • @kayoss2306
      @kayoss2306 3 года назад +2

      TMS doesn't mean "all in your head" or "not physical", it's more like stress-induced (or stress perpetuated) illness, and yes the effects can be very physical. For example, if your nervous system is so alert that it doesn't allow you to access deep sleep (common in CFS) then that will have a negative effect on your physical wellbeing. If you're too exhausted to cook and eat properly, yes you will become malnourished. If you're in bed 23 hours a day and your muscles are wasting, yes you will look weak. Then there's all the negative effects of chronic stress on your immune system, which can make you more vulnerable to viruses. All this stuff is physically real. But a physical illness can have a mental solution.
      I've had CFS for several years, I tried everything, and only seeing success since following a mind-body/TMS approach (massive improvements in just a few months and I now believe I'll fully recover).

      @@kayoss2306 thanks for explaining and glad you are making progress. Did you do a programme or just read sarnos books?

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  3 года назад +2

      I agree with what Kay said. Further, when we are under stress, our immune and digestive systems are suppressed and not working optimally. This means that nutrient absorption may be less than ideal. Combine that with lack of sleep, it's easy to see how they can look unwell. A TMS approach can resolve so much more than just the fatigue. This video you are commenting upon really maps out the recovery pretty completely.

      @@Star5dg I just read lots of things on the internet and books, I listen to podcasts (like Journal Speak with Nichole Sachs, the Curable podcast, Tell Me About Your Pain, Mindbody Mastery pocast), watch things on RUclips etc. I just pick up ideas that work for me and implement them.
      Meditation has been very helpful for me because I think it helps train my nervous system to be calmer. And honestly the most helpful thing has probably just been listening to all the recovery stories I can find and believing that I will get better, because it's helped me get out of the panic "fight or flight" mode where I think I'm gonna be sick forever. I do what I can to implement the new tools/knowledge that I have, but mostly I just focus on living more joyfully; I dance to happy music every day, I spend time outdoors and with my loved ones, and I do all the things that make me happy. I don't care about symptoms or let them hold me back from the things I want to do. Things just get better and better each month.

    When i am laying on my sofa, in the comfort of my home , does the body not sense it as safety, and does the mind not understand that I am very well safe relaxed on my couch, so why is it so hard for the mind to feel safe and turn off pain when I am physically safe, is it not convinced that my body is relaxing and touching the sofa and sensing comfort

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  3 года назад +4

      It's not the body which needs to sense danger, it's the brain. All pain is controlled by the brains perception of danger. And it could simply be a conditioned response. If you hurt enough times laying on the couch, the brain "learns" that the couch is painful and turns it on in an attempt to get you off of this "dangerous" couch.
