    Do you live in Alabama?! I just bought my first fox like 4 days ago. Took me 3 years to find the one I wanted. Unfortunately I know 0 history on it but under the hood was the cleanest and most stock that I could find. She is idling rough and drops rpms at about 3k. Been working on it for 2 days using your vids to try and figure it out. I need your help haha I wonder we live close to each other lol. I would love to send you some pics of the car.

      Congratulations on your new fox! Sorry you’re having some issues with it.. I know that sucks after just buying it. I wish I could take on subscribers cars but unfortunately I don’t have to the time with a full time job and all the projects going on around the house. Feel free to post further details of how the car is running and any info you can and I’ll pin your comment at the top of the video. I’ll do my best to help as will others on the channel!

      @@BREW2LFOXBODY haha I absolutely understand. I have 4 kids that keep me crazy busy with sports. I retired from the military a few years ago so I have plenty of time in the mornings at least lol. I plan to do most of it myself but some things are a bit out of my league. Just a small world I suppose because I have a feeling you live pretty close to me haha. But yeah I will try and give a more in depth of what it is doing. Wish you could see the engine bay I think you would be surprised because I was blown away at how good of condition it was.

      Only visible mods the car has is an intake and a sve duel fan radiator. Under the hood is extremely clean and well kept. From the looks of it was a smog car. It fires up every turn of the key. I have replaced the distributor,wires,plugs,oil and oil filter. It had an oil leak from the oil level sensor because the sensor was broke off so I plugged it for now. It does have a small leak from the passenger side valve cover gasket but only when hot. (Gonna break the message into parts.)

      I have already done the timing and when I got the car it was at 20 degrees timing. I backed it back down to 14/15 degrees with 93 octane. May try 10 or 12 degrees tomorrow. Prior to doing the idle reset I was able to get it to idle fine last night but I had to go way in with the idle screw and had it idling great at 800 to 900 rpms after reving to make sure the idle was set. Then drove it and drove the best so far but when I got to the gas station the idle jumped up to like 1400. Then this morning I did the factory idle reset and I had to back my idle screw way back down because the tps was at 1.35+. I was only able to move the tps enough to drop it like .10 to .15. Then i fired it up after hooking the iac and letting the computer do its thing it seemed to be working and idling perfectly at about 650 to 700. Then I drove it and it was the worse since I have had it. Ill go into detail of what its doing when I drive it next.

    • @allenhouse7224
      @allenhouse7224 3 года назад

      So when I first test drove it, it felt strong but it would cut off on me at stop signs. Also when about 50% to 75% throttle the RPMs would just drop off about 500 to 1k at about 3k RPMs and then jump right back up and keep going up. Sudden hard drop of RPMs. The car was definitely bucking in 1st and 2nd so im assuming there is a vacuum leak some where that I will search for tomorrow. Last night when I got the car to idle at 800 to 900 rpms with the IAC unplugged and drove it, it felt great and it didnt drop rpms on the way to the store. Once there the idle shot up to the 1400 and then went back to dropping rpms hard again. After the idle reset today and I drove it, it started driving real bad bucking again and dropping rpms multiple times through each gear at 75% throttle and some times even when just cruising and not gaining speed. I drove it to my kids practice to let the comp learn and when I got there it cut off and was having a hard time start back up. So I unplugged the IAC to at least get it to idle a bit better and to see if it would help with the rpm drops on the way home but it didnt.

    I'm glad I found your page I'm from Alabama myself. I've never really been a ford hater but I am a gm guy side note though I am a dodge hater lol! I decided a few year's ago I would buy a stang and not immediately Ls swap it if I found one I like and is in my budget no fox body's or new edge cars I've always liked how the 05-10 cars looked but haven't had much experience with the 3 valve motors I know more about 2 valves and Windsor stuff, I've had two turbo Ls mustangs the first was a ragged out 87 fox body and a new edge i built for my exwife she thought she wanted to race but lost interest lol that was actually a pretty nice car I did every thing right so I wouldn't be so worried with her driving it. But I have had my 2000 z28 since 2014 its went from stock to bolt ons cam etc to a stock style suspension with lots of bmr and midwest chassis parts turbo small tire car with a nice th400 with a brake and a strange bolt in 12 bolt rear end swap in 2016 it ran 6.10-30's back then with a cam only sbe ls1 witrodshon3 single turbo kit with a 76mm on3 turbo but the on3 kit stayed on the car about 6 months it was constantly cracking it was nothing but problems it would boost creep like crazy we had to add another gate it was a mess lol so in 2017 I ponyed up and bought a Huron speed single t6 kit and it was worth every penny way more efficient made more power with Less boost I had a s480 on it then and it ended up going a 5.89 at 113mph I think I do know it went a best of 5.89 before the ls1 kicked the rods that's when I went to holey efi with and started getting faster and faster learning how to tune and how to go fast with sbe stuff until halfway thru 2019 I finally got the race weight down to 3180 and finally built myself a Ls based 402 and a bigger turbo garret gt5591 and got it down in the 5.40s consistently then swapped it over to methanol and a power glide a badass ptc converter specced by dusty bradford with a gear change and really started throwing the boost to it and ill say this its been faster than a 5.20 130+mph its a n/t car it also definitely lost the street from Street strip car lol. But I've been wanting to put a nice street car together so I bought a family friends 08 sonic blue mustang gt one owner with less than 80,000 miles on its a 9 out of 10 inside and out and that little 3 valve was quicker than I thought it would be even with the automatic I actually enjoy driving the car even though its bone stock now I'm wanting go see how fast a stock 3v can go at 3400 pounds and still be A street car I've heard that most of the mustang kits from on3 work like ther supposed to maybe the f body kit was just defective or something lol. But my tuner has a complete kit minus the turbo and waste gate. But I got a billet wheel t6 s475 with a 1.15 A.R and 60mm vs racing 60mm gate I'm gonna pick it up next week and start gathering up parts some injectors a regulator and good fuel pump that will feed it all the corn it can handle im gonna throw some cams in it but decided that shit cost way more than I want to spend lol so its just gettin some PAC valve springs in it I'm not gonna rev kit past. 6500rpm. But im sorry its definitely getting a Ls setup with a large turbo and th400 lol when the 3 valve dies but it will stay a clean comfortable street car that's the whole reason I bought it i just miss having a quick street car

    ON3Performance really changed the game about 10-12 years ago when they came out. Vendors hated them because there prices were so cheap. You can get a full turbo kit under 3k. Keep in mind back then every ones turbo kits were complete were $5,000-6,000 for a complete kit and sometimes even more with Hellion.
    Vendors were bashing ON3 , a lot of forums didn't even like them talking about ON3 because they were taking over the turbo kit market and these other vendors would be sponsored on their forums. The truth is these kits made it so that not only the people with a ton of money could boost there cars. There are some horror stories with the ON3 set up but that was years and years ago and every company has that issue from time to time. They changed the game and made everyone's cost come way down. No one can compete with a company that offers a full kit for half the cost of there's.
    About 10 years ago when me and my friends put one on his , it was 100% stock with a catback exhaust and made 372hp and 432tq on a mustang dyno on #9 psi. Car was a ton of fun, later on we added a hci to it and tuned it ourself with a Pimp ECU. (we had zero tuning experience) and really should have brought it to a tuner but the car still went 11.6 in the 1/4 with a 10.0 AFR (10.0 is as low as the gauge would read) so who knows how rich it really was haha.

  • @alertgasper

    a .060 over block is very stiff--most low deck Windsors won't go more than .040 over, and usually they are the ones ready to crack at 500+bhp as a result. Also, at $3,000 (then I assume you have to pay a tuner to get fuel and ignition systems not to fry a piston), that's stroker territory. which may allow you to use 91-93 octane pump gas, but you'll still want heads, intake and cam to feed it, and that's going to add to the bill (assuming you're comparing a turbo setup to a stock E7 package or an Explorer GT40P that got forged pistons swapped in). But if you can find the fuel to feed it, the turbo can be easily cranked up in boost while the stroker setup will need more cam and head, which can cause streetability issues.

    Superchargers are way way harder on an engine. The amount of added stress and abuse to the snout of the crank pulley just to spin the blower hard enough to make the boost you want tends to snap cranks.
    Plus, blowers cost a bunch of power to make it on the bigger end. I’ve heard huge Centri blowers to make 30+ pounds would require 3-500 horse to spin it that damn hard.
    Turbos being exhaust driven is like free power after the purchase. Doesn’t Robb power to make power.
    Nitrous is definitely cheap to initially get into, but it’s the gift that never ever quits costing. Bottles ALWAYS go empty. And in Canada, they Hella pricey to fill.
    Just my $.02….

    • @alertgasper
      @alertgasper 10 месяцев назад

      I agree with your points on the supercharger, and will add one more. the stock 302 firing order fires both front cylinders at once, and that will cause stress at the front of the engine block. now if you're running a supercharger and you tighten down that belt...you've added more stress on the front of the crankshaft, and we know Ford changed the weight of the flywheel due to modifications to the reciprocating assembly in the 1980's.
      "but wait" you say, "the 5.0 HO doesn't use the 302 ignition timing, it uses the 351W firing order". True, but if you buy a cheap cam to put into your 302 and it has a 1960's era grind to it, what firing order is it using? if it's the old 302...now you see why the old guys who hotrodded Foxes in the 1980's and got double digit boost off a paxton hairdryer might have run into block issues....

I went ahead and got a vortech v3 because it was only going to be a 3 month wait. I'm really happy with it and I'm running 10lbs of boost on a stock bottom end

    You keep saying turbo is cheaper. You said you spent 3k on the kit, holley system to tune it is 1k , fuel system upgrade will be a more... it just adds up quickly. Nitrous is by far the cheapest power adder. For between $500 to 1k (of you buy everything new) you can have nitrous on the car and go have fun.

    • @BREW2LFOXBODY
      @BREW2LFOXBODY  3 года назад +3

      I paid 3k for everything but including fuel injectors and pump. You don’t have to have an aftermarket computer. I was comparing a heads, cam intake setup coming from stock. You’ll end up with as much or more than that in the HCI setup and not as much horsepower. But as far power for money goes. Yes nitrous is usually cheaper 👌

    • @alertgasper
      @alertgasper 10 месяцев назад

      @@ryleyfernandes_1565it's a good idea for safety, but if your engine has high miles on it, its already expanded the ring gap for you. of course, no one knows for sure "how much is enough" until they pull the engine apart...but it's how some folks who "bolted on and gone" got away with it.
      in the end, a job is only "cheap" if you do it once.
