    I read that Tommy Bolin said Ian Paice was the best drummer he ever played with. Bolin played with some of the BEST drummers. So that is high praise indeed.

      I would imagine Bolin was the best guitarist Ian ever played with, no disrespect to Blackmore, but fuck Bolin was a bad-ass. THis jam really showcases the sheer ferocity he was capable of. The synth guitar parts are out of this world. All done in real time with nada a dub

    I got to see Tommy Bolin with the James Gang in 1973 in Burns Auditorium, Rock Hill, SC with Brownsville Station opening. I've seen every legendary guitarist in the world since then and still was never so staggered by a guitar performance than I was after that show. I could barely talk for a week. But, then I also smoked a whole bag of weed.

      It is impressive you go back that far, yet listening closely to what Walsh played with James Gang and afterwards it should be fairly obvious most fans realized Bolin was not in as high a class as he was.

      How....how.....HOW?! DO YOU PLAY ANY INSTRUMENTS? So SICK of people on RUclips saying how different from everybody and how extraordinary Tommy was when there was literally players like Angus Young and Ace Frehley playing the same shit!!! Not to mention thousands of other players like paul kossof, Eric Clapton, Tony iommi, Joe Perry, Peter Green and millions of blues players. Besides their tone their was nothing that set players like that apart from eachother in terms of soloing, they were literally doing all the same kind of pentatonic blues runs. If he was bolin was si unique then what does that make of guys like schenker and roth? Just listen to the solo on catch your train from 1976 and you tell me what other rock guitar player was doing that, now THAT was unique playing for it's day when only jazz fusion and classical players were on that level.

      Stan Danly come on Angus Young and Ace like Bolin. Not at all. Listen to Spectrum and Mind Transplant the fusion albums. Those other guys could play that if their lives depended on it. I didn’t see any of those you listed who influenced the great Jeff Beck like Bolin did! Beck got into fusion largely based on Bolin’s playing on Spectrum. I get it you don’t like him but you can’t downplay his significance. Ask Warren Haynes, Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Beck, Joe Walsh, Glenn Hughes I trust their opinion more than yours for sure

    • @bremtremont2027
      @bremtremont2027 4 года назад +1

      @@flyingburritobro68 Okay maybe not Ace...but Angus for sure, and I don't even like angus! People keep raving about these bolin "fusion" albums...yet bolin is clearly the weakest link on every single song on spectrum, so playing "fusion" doesn't automatically qualify you as being a skilled guitarist because not all "fusion" is actually technique/extreme skill based, just compare return to forevers album hymn of the 7th galaxy, where have i known you before or romantic warrior to a pretty basic fusion sounding album such as spectrum, similar to how you can compare pink floyd to yes or gentle giant, all considered prog but some are obviously more technically gifted than others. The most he really did in his soloing was SOMETIMES include just a little bit of the harmonic minor scale but that's about it, he was no holdsworth, no dimeola, no bill connors, no steve morse, he did nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary for the guitar, everyone I've mentioned before and after this have influenced FAR more people than bolin ever has/ever will...and there was other guys in rock like Michael schenker and especially uli jon roth who were FAR more interesting to listen to, just compare the solo on catch your train, queen of the deep, sails of charon, rock bottom, etc. If he was so amazing then why did he take all the solos from the ritchie era and dumb them down so much? Burn for example, he just compeletly ruined the build up of that emotional solo, why? Because bolin was a BASIC, extremely limited guitarist.

    The one and only Mr Tommy Bolin. Unique and super talented always a great listen as he was amazing- jazz, rock, fusion, funk. You name it he could play it! For those who trash him....why would Billy Cobbham recruit him for Spectrum? Why would Jeff Beck, Joe Walsh and other amazing guitarists speak so highly of him if he wasn't great.

    • @bremtremont2027
      @bremtremont2027 4 года назад

      Another idiot managing to bring up spectrum!!! WOW!!! OF COURSE Cobham recruited Bolin, something easy like a 1 chord jam like stratus was the perfect job for someone with begenner chops like Bolin! A basic 1 chord jam calls for a simplistic 1 trick guitarist! Hell even Steve Jones of the sex pistols could jam to status! There are FIVE YEAR OLDS capable of jamming to stratus!

    l o VE b O L iN. When I saw him in 1976 with Purple (Nazareth opening) in Rhode Island he was pretty terrible. Not trying to tarnish him as I loved almost everything he did. But after one song (Burn) I was wishing Blackmore had been there.

    One keeps asking himself, why didn't Tommy ever manage to put the same sort of fire and energy into his solos for Burn or Highway Star?
    And what's that Paicey & Nicko picture to do here?

    There's lots and lots of great guitarists. But the list of great drummers is not so long. And every great band needs a great drummer.

    Yes, I agree.....I guess I meant a personal waste for him. He was a great musician and could have achieved so much more. Teaser was great and his work on Come Taste The Band was very good also, although Purple were pretty much in free-fall by then. Great player!
