This was like a fav groove that Tommy carried on his sleeve... anytime just hangin out at Glen Holly, he would slow it down for me so i could keep up on the drums. I'm no Cobham or Mousson. But I love the funk jam with Greg Phillinganes, Jeff Beck, Tommy and Phil Polemeni..just doin my best to hang on and keep listening in time.
ron s hamilton wish I was there with you guys, Tommy and Jeff are my guitar heroes; I love many others too, but IMO nobody matches them in terms of balance, lightweight, delicacy and tempo; every solo is an arabesque carved by the 2 guys, and they are gifted with the ability of choosing the right note, frequently the most unexpected one, the right number of notes, the freshest progression that will carry the tune away.. Jeff is widely recognized as the best in town as for guitar playing, and deservedly so, but Tommy was probably the most underrated guitar player in rock history..
INCREDIBLE! I grew up north of Denver and was fortunate enough to see Zephyr in Boulder several times, (they were HUGE in Colorado!) and later Tommy solo as well. Actually, even got to see him at Ebbitt's field during the recording
The way Tommy builds a solo is just incredible. I've been a Tommy Bolin fan forever. I never heard a live version of Tommy playing this song. Thanks for posting.
@@gerthie, I believe this is "Ebbetts field" with The Good Rats but without the introduction. It's not the Billy Cobham version. Let me know uf I'm incorrect.
This man is on par with the greatest: Hendrix, Mc Laughlin, Santana, Beck... F*cking HELLL! What energy... This drives me in a crazy uncontrollable headbanging fit!😍🤩😱🤘🤘🤘❤🔥
great vid graphics. This is from Tommy Bolin The Bottom Shelf track 11. What a great version. Tommy on Guitar, Carmine Appice on drums.Mickey Marchello & Jonh Gatto on other guitars Lenny Ketke on bass.
I've been a huge fan since 75. I worked to much. I guess. How I missed this masterpiece. I have no idea. Just heard. Just saw. Just got blown away.......... Wow.
Got a James gang rides again 8 track in winnemucca at a gas station there with not much to pick through and Tommy bolin came into my life with a blessing of great Fuckin Guitar
I met him in 70' in Boulder,Co. at Tulagis club on the hill.Sold him a dime bag and talked.Zephyr was playing.Super cool smooth dude.Boulder and Tulagis had the best music in America 70-72.Best Super groups ever, anywhere then
Status Report: Incoming Stratus looks like just the Storm we have been hoping for so best turn up those JBL Speakers and see how Music should really sound and remember you may have to buckle up!!
. . . . and on the seventh day, God woke up, put on a Tommy Bolin album, and said "DAAAAAAAaaaammmmn . . . . Thats it. Im taking the day off. Theres no way I can create anything to top this shit."
Ebbets Field, 11-22-74, with The Good Rats, featuring Stanley Sheldon, Carmine Appice, and Tom Stephenson. This version appears on the Tommy release The Bottom Shelf, Volume 1.
Quand vous êtes déprimé, qu'il y a du spleen et que tout ne va pas très bien, écoutez Bolin... Il va vous redonner espoir, il est brut de coffrage, il permet de revivre de penseret surtout de rêver. Merci
I like this version as much as I like Billy Cobham's. Carmine Appice reminds me of John Bonham. Tommy is driving this song entirely. - playing Jan Hammer's keyboard parts too. TB is playing both, the "call" and the "response" while he leaves room for the other guitarist to add some rhythmic color.
Ben Suncin This is a live, yes live, bootleg of Tommy with the Good Rats ... long after the seminal version from Cobham's Stratus lp ... listen to the dueling guitar not present on the original ..
This just might be better than Billy Cobham's version. Carmine Appice is no slouch at laying down a beat. The original is a "call and response" composition between Jan Hammer and Tommy. In this version, Tommy is playing both the "call" and the "response" while the other guitarist adds some color.
What I cannot believe is that on just about every top guitarist of the 70s list, he is left off or down near the bottom of the hundred. Are you kidding me?!
obviously there is another guitar in the right channel. Not Jeff Beck. Where and when was this recorded? And who is supposed to be playing on this.?No info. Sounds suspect to me and I have been listening to Tommy since 1972.
This is a live version with Carmine Appice on drums, along with a band called The Good Rats. They asked Tommy and Carmine to come up and jam. This was a live radio broadcast in late 1974.
Friggin' love this dude. Just a kid from South Dakota. Died so young. Tommy is tuning his guitar as he goes. Who is the other player? Is this with Billy Cobham?
This guy is a forgotten late entry into the top 10 of all time ,feel he is #2 behind jeff beck all time.intresting that the two of them are jazz combo rock , must be something to that combo because it is more rocking than the rock blues combo
I love the Billy Cobham version but this jam is a MONSTER!
Long time Tommy Bolin fan here, and every time I listen to him I am left speechless!
same here
My favorite guitarist .he could play jazz, rock and funky but too young to die.RIP TB

I don't know ANYBODY who underrated him.@@jeanclaudejaycee3472

Tommy was uniquely gifted at composing melody. He phrasing was always rhythmic, percussive, fresh, and interesting.
Check out ebbets field 74

Tommy Bolin! The best guitarist no one has ever heard of!!!
great vid graphics. This is from Tommy Bolin The Bottom Shelf track 11. What a great version. Tommy on Guitar, Carmine Appice on drums.Mickey Marchello & Jonh Gatto on other guitars Lenny Ketke on bass.
Tommy Bolin played this at the age of 22If you think so, I think he was an extraordinary genius.
The Sioux city guitar slayer at his BEST what a solo !
One of my all time favorite guitar players! Love his fusion, should of been there with Al Dimeola.
Got turned in to tommy in Denver in 83, just by chance I saw the teaser album in a second hand record store and have been a fan ever since.
Wow. Bolin was smokin' hot. What a loss. I hate heroin dealers.
Spectacular! My dad told me of the 70's acid days I think I just got a taste now...
Truly wonderful guitar mastery very few in his league back then imitation sincerest form of flattery Tommy lives on thru others🎸🎸🎸🔊🔊🤘🤘🐲
Like so many unique shooting stars, he left too soon. Can't help but wonder where his music would have taken him (and subsequently, all of us). RIP.
Best guitar jam ever

That's a Biblical truth!
great version. thanks.
Great Albumn 👍😎
Great version. One of the best
Baddest motherfucker'in guitar player to ever come out of Iowa. OD at 25 he was just getting warmed up
Ebbets Field, 11-22-74, with The Good Rats, featuring Stanley Sheldon, Carmine Appice, and Tom Stephenson. This version appears on the Tommy release The Bottom Shelf, Volume 1.
My gawd! Thanks for this. True gift for any guitar player!
Gracias por subir y hacer un vídeo que ilustra el espíritu Bolin.
Jeff Beck plays this as a tribute to Tommy. They were good friends...
Wonderful. He was so great, he was much too young. I love you, Tommy Bolin.
Quand vous êtes déprimé, qu'il y a du spleen et que tout ne va pas très bien, écoutez
Bolin... Il va vous redonner espoir, il est brut de coffrage, il permet de revivre de penseret
surtout de rêver. Merci
Stratified by excellence and by no means under control!!
Nothing is better then this
I like this version as much as I like Billy Cobham's. Carmine Appice reminds me of John Bonham. Tommy is driving this song entirely. - playing Jan Hammer's keyboard parts too. TB is playing both, the "call" and the "response" while he leaves room for the other guitarist to add some rhythmic color.
All of the good ones get taken. Bless them.
Tommy Bolin Forever....
Very good!
Great clip to brilliant tune 😀
Yes I'm very familiar with who played on this album it's a fusion classic - Jan Hammer synth, Lee Sklar on bassTommy and Billy C.
Ben Suncin This is a live, yes live, bootleg of Tommy with the Good Rats ... long after the seminal version from Cobham's Stratus lp ... listen to the dueling guitar not present on the original ..
This is F++king Brilliant!!!¬
Good Lord! This may top the version with Billy Cobham!
Nowhere near, drumming not in the same league and the guitar tone is cheesier than the classic Cobham version.
Awesome never heard this version He had it didn't he RIP tommy

He was so good.love
Fusion at it's best as well as Al DiMeola

What I cannot believe is that on just about every top guitarist of the 70s list, he is left off or down near the bottom of the hundred. Are you kidding me?!
Brilliant! Who are the other musicians on this track?
And Lenny Kotke on bass, and missing was Joe Franco (drums)
ライブ版のようですが何故こんなに音質が良いのですか?チャンネルもきちんと分かれているしギターも三本は重なってる?不思議だ🤔🤔🤔
One channel missing, still rocks.
OMG this tune is f**kin nuts!
OH MY this is Great!

obviously there is another guitar in the right channel. Not Jeff Beck. Where and when was this recorded? And who is supposed to be playing on this.?No info. Sounds suspect to me and I have been listening to Tommy since 1972.
love this never heard it before! who's the drummer? killer ...Tommy is in my personal TOP 5 all time greats
it should be Billy Cobham look up stratus by Billy Cobham then look at the members of the band
This is a live version with Carmine Appice on drums, along with a band called The Good Rats. They asked Tommy and Carmine to come up and jam. This was a live radio broadcast in late 1974.
stratoejam People get this wrong all the time .. smh when it's pretty clear there are two hot guitars here ...
Carmine Appice was with Vanilla Fudge and Rod Stewart and many other bands. His drummer brother Vinny was in Black Sabbath, Dio and many other bands.
11 people were cursed with aluminum ears and have absolutely no soul.
CAN'T GET ENOUGH..
I was so fortunate to have seen Zephyr so many times even the night he left the band Candy Givens kicked Ass
lets start a band :-) im a drummer, rip tommy you are still the man........
Throws a fezzbee across the sports arena and dancing around to this tune

Tommy Bolin couldn't do any better than getting the Good Rats...
Friggin' love this dude. Just a kid from South Dakota. Died so young. Tommy is tuning his guitar as he goes. Who is the other player? Is this with Billy Cobham?
He was from Sioux City, Iowa. This version was performed with one of his solo band lineups (Cobham was not involved).
Wow!!
Tommy Bolin with The Good Rats

This guy is a forgotten late entry into the top 10 of all time ,feel he is #2 behind jeff beck all time.intresting that the two of them are jazz combo rock , must be something to that combo because it is more rocking than the rock blues combo
tommy dubbed the right chan guitar?
Personnel?
Zero dislikes.....why of course.
yep to billy
Doesn't Jeff Beck do this tune as well?
Jeff Beck does cover it . . . but not nearly as well.
Heard Beck say Tommy Bolin on Cobhamms Stratus album was his inspiration that led to Blow by Blow and Wired albums.
