Very good video. I couldn't get the audio/video working on my TV. I knew nothing about ARC until I watched this video and then I got everything set up in 5 minutes.
Thanks for the in depth content. I didn't know there was a dedicated HDMI/ARC connection on the TV. I struggled with this quite a bit. Thanks for making this simple for me!
@@concretejungle6938 You will not get the ARC functionality. So audio cannot travel from your TV to your receiver. You basically need to use the optical cable for sound or some other means
@@concretejungle6938 Hmm, the possible ways of that happening is 1. Your TV has ARC 2. Wouldn’t be a bad idea. I did show a glimpse of YPAO setup. When I place it on the couch, that’s the closest place but if you have a tripod that would be more ideal.
Great video! I just bought this receiver and wanted to know the best audio/video settings. There seem to be a bunch of options...Straight/Direct, a bunch of different "program" modes (standard, 2 channel, 5 channel, movie mode, drama, etc). I'd like to set it once and forget it. Also, I want my TV to do the processing (Sony X950H) where is that setting? Last, there's a huge differnce in volume when switching between Apple TV 4K and the DVR. Thoughts? Thanks!
Thanks! It comes with predefined settings, you could just leave it on the default setting. Probably utilizing all your speakers would be ideal granted some sources are only 2.1. These things are designed to be changed for different type of sources like movies, music, games. It’s hard to set it as one option but just leave it at the default which is the easy method. Not sure why there would be a huge difference between Apple TV and DVR. But here’s something you can try: manual.yamaha.com/av/18/rxv385/en-US/316718987.html
I bought a pre amp so I can use my turntable with this amp. Where can I plug it into the amp? Yamaha says plug it into the red & white connectors like CD. This amp has all video type connectors. Thanks for your help.
Learned a lot, I’m not by means a tech 61 yr old women, .actually a best video, although I did plug in my subwoofer and didn’t get any sound, I do see a cable not attached with a yellow and red end attached to nothing , just sitting behind the subwoofer and behind the receiver, but not plugged in either end, any help for me? Everything else working fine ty
Thanks for the feedback. Make sure the subwoofer is plugged into a power outlet as this device will not power it. You only need that one RCA subwoofer cable to get to the sub from the receiver, are you not using that? Most subs also have their own power switch, so make sure it’s On.
Quick question. Hooked up my receiver last night. It is awesome with my Pioneer SP-FS52 standup speakers. My question is: Can the receiver be synced so that when I turn on my tv with my android box on, the receiver turns on as well or vis-a-versa, if I turn the receiver is turned on my tv and android box comes on? I do have it connected with an ARC connect and my tv is set with CED on. TIA
What you want is HDMI Control to be enabled. Here's a link to Yamaha's site that talks about it: manual.yamaha.com/av/18/rxv385/en-US/320797195.html Check to make sure it's enabled on everything, like the TV as well other devices if does give you that option.
Found I could only get sound from my old HD Toshiba DVD/cd with optical cable. I want to connect a turntable, how do I do that with the 385? I have a RXV 661 that has a pre amp so I could use it if I had to.
Nice video, but I see your Switch was not set-up properly. Currently I am looking for a 5.1 HDMI AV receiver that it can process lpcm through HDMI as the Switch doesn't support Dolby or DTS and you have to set-it up as auto from the Switch to pick up the 5 speakers and the subwoofer.
Yes, if that's the source is selected if you connect the DVD player to HDMI2 on the receiver (you select HDMI 2 on the receiver), then set the TV to the HDMI port that the receiver is on. The DVD player will show
Bought one recently. So far notice two problems: 1. AVR have to turn on and off, then only passthrough will work. 2. If power loss, DSP setting will lost and back to default .
Good video.I have the older version of this model Yamaha rx-v379 its nice to see the upgrades on this model no spring clips for the center and surround and you can change speaker impedance.
Hey landpet, Wondering if you can help me, at 16:25 you can see the amp has turned the speakers off because no audio is coming through. My amp (same model) does the same until I start playing something meaning it chops the first 1-1.5 seconds off. Do you know if there's a way to disable this?
The wireless headphones that I have are Sony and they connect to the red and white audio/video on the back of the receiver. The base that the headphones get recharged in are plugged into a wall ac current. I had them hooked up before that my wife could hear the tv through the tv speakers at her low volume and I could hear through the Sony headphones that run through the receiver, so that is listening to both at the same time.
I haven't tried that but I don't think you can listen to the TV speakers and the headphones at the same time because they are two different sources. Now if you had speakers connected to the receiver, you can listen to that and bluetooth headphones hooked up to the receiver at the same time and independently control their volumes because that's the same source which is the receiver. The TV needs to know whether to output the audio through its own speakers or through the HDMI cable to the receiver, unless you have a special TV.
Is possible to connect an external amplifier to this receiver and pass through the audio signal? Not using the receiver as an amp basically. Hooking up speakers to the amplifier.
I bought this one to replace a older HDMI Sony. Later found out you have to have / buy an POWERED subwoofer. Additionally, trying to get my XBOX (Series X) to turn off the Amp via HDMI, without luck (Xbox turns off projector) . Any ideas?
HDMI CEC is the option that enables devices to control other devices in terms of turning on or off or adjusting volume control. Make sure it’s enabled and the devices support it.
I bought this AV last year and only connected the speakers since then. Using the tuner whenever. It often seems to loose the FM signal and I can not figure out why. Read something about it not being properly earthed but I dont know about that ... I dont see any wiring specific for that. I was thinking maybe the stereo signal is bad around here ... any thoughts? I am really not very technical enclined ...
Hi landpet many thanks for this video. I have my guitar interface which has left and right RCA connection. do you think it be possible to put them into the Av2 or Av3 inputs and I would still receive sound? . I was hoping to buy this today until I noticed there is no dedicated left and right RCA only places to connect. only under the AV2 or 3. many thanks
I have an old TEAC that needs replacing. This was very informative. I'm sold, as it has all the features I need. Thanks. Oh, can I set this up for 3.0 channel?
No worries. I haven't played with something like that, looks like you connect the speakers to the Niles, then the Niles to the receiver but I don't know how that works.
Very nice men but c'mon, you got a receiver with speakers and use a bluetooth headphones? The Switch isn't even on 5.1, only 2.1 are light up on the screen, put a movie with Dolby or DTS to test properly the 5.1
Thanks! Yeah I understand, I wasn’t doing a sound test just merely demoing the difference. I do use Bluetooth headphones sometimes when my kids are sleeping. In general, I try to go over all the possible options because people are interested in different things.
@@landpet I thank you for including the info on Bluetooth headphones, cause I will be using mine a lot . I have this receiver coming tomorrow from Amazon.
Dumb question but im totally new to audio stuff. Would I be able to connect this to my computer via Optical digital and then hdmi for the screen to set it up?
Optical will just pass audio, not video. Just as a heads up. If your computer has the optical audio then sure you could get sound through the receiver connected speakers however no video. If you connect it via HDMI from your computer to the receiver, then you could get both video and audio. Just remember, the source which in this case seems to be your computer needs to pass the data you want to see, so video and audio through HDMI, then you can have an HDMI going from the receiver to your TV which will show the video from your computer assuming everything is setup correctly.
I would check if the sources can support it, I don't have vinyl so I don't know the source it uses. I would imagine it's fine if it supports it. CDs should be fine.
I just got an rxv383. I have the Klipsh reference theatre 5.1. The receiver has 2 speaker connections like yours for left and right. The center and right surround and left surround has the spring loaded buttons. Those 3 speakers do not work. I bought receiver off Ebay so it has no instructions. How do I get those to work? Subwoofer doesn't work either but I may not have the right cable for it
ARC is just for sending Audio from your TV's source (or sources connected directly to the TV) to the receiver. It has nothing to do with the TV's remote control controlling the receiver. That's a different option called HDMI CEC.
Nice review. I saw that it pairs to a Bluetooth headphone. What about 2 BT headphones at the same time, so 2 people can listen with different headphones together? Is it capable, or it can transit to only one BT headset at a time?
excellent video!!! i have one questiont tho, hoping you can answer it. i want to buy this, ill have to use the HDMI arc to the tv, but I want to use a soundbar that requires a HDMI input, I do see here that the 4 regular HDMI ports support ARC, can any of these 4 ports be used to send the sound signal from the receiver to the soundbar?? i think so just wanted to confirm
Thanks! Assuming your sound bar also works via HDMI ARC, I don’t believe that will work the way you mentioned assuming I understand your scenario. The 4 ports on the receiver are input ports that are designed to get the incoming signal and play the audio through the speakers meaning let’s say for example you have an Xbox hooked up to one of those ports. So it can play the audio through the speakers or it can pass through the audio to be played on the TV. I believe for the sound bar to work, you would need to to connect the hdmi arc port of the TV to the sound bar. If you don’t need to use the ARC of the receiver, you can just use another hdmi port of your TV to connect to the output port of your receiver. You can also use an optical cable from the TV to the sound bar assuming your TV and sound bar have the optical ports. Hope this helps!
Can I use HDMI ARC for audio and it not turn the reciver on and off every time I power my tv on/off I don't wanna use my receiver all the time but I want HD sound for when I do
Great video. Thanks! Just one question: using a bluetooth headset, do you notice any lag between the speakers and the headphones? I am looking for a solution for my wife to use headphones while I prefer to listen to speakers at the same time. I have an RX-V381 that doesn't send bluetooth but I may upgrade to the 385. Cheers.
In my previous receiver you had to set in the menu which HDMI input to use for the pass through. I cannot find such a setting on the Sony receiver. How do you set the receiver to use a specific HDMI port as the pass through port. For example, I have a BluRay on HDMI 2 and a TiVO on HDMI 3. When the receiver is off, I want the TiVO (HDMI 3) signal to be passed through to the TV. Can the receiver use any of its HDMI inputs as a pass through? Does it pass through whatever HDMI input is active?
I would not connect 6 ohm speakers to an 8 ohm receiver. However, this is an 8 ohm receiver by default but can be set to 6 ohm. So you should be golden. manual.yamaha.com/av/18/rxv385/en-US/311221003.html
@@fernandos.8158 No worries. Speaker impedance is measured in Ohms. It is the limitation of electrical current (measured in amps) flow supplied from the amplifier. Hi there, many thanks for your explanation on using this receiver, some I understood and some I didn't :-), let me start off by telling you I am an old guy that doesn't really understand electronics/sound set-up etc.. I followed the instructions to connect this unit to my LG smart TV, so arc to arc for the HDMI cable and connected the speaker wires (which have been on an old Kenwood receiver - no Arc ) Turned it on and firstly tried the FM station, no sound, then the TV - no sound. I tried the "set up" button and I get to speakers and a request to configure, but no instructions in the user manual on how to configure. I noticed you have instruction on your TV, how do I get this on my TV? Or is an LG different.. BTW - I am using RUclips TV - not sure if this makes a difference. Your help would be appreciated..
No problem. A few things to check: 1. Verify your HDMI cable supports ARC, it needs to otherwise it won't work. 2. In order to see the receiver menu, you must select thr HDMI source of the TV that goes to the receiver. Meaning you connected the receiver to hdmi2 of your tv whish is the HDMI source that also supports ARC. Then you need to be on hdmi2 on your TV. 3. Go to your TV settings and verify ARC is enabled. 4. Select the output audio source on your TV to either ARC or Auto. 5. Just to make sure your receiver is working, connect a device to one of your receiver hdmi's directly and play a video/audio file, anything with audio and verify you are getting audio.
@@landpet Thanks so much, to make sure, I have ordered an HDMI cable that supports ARC from Amazon, should be here today. Not sure I understand point 2. I am using RUclipsTV which I pick up from bottom of my screen alongside HDMI1 and also HDMI 2, Netflix etc etc. Incidentally the ARC connection on my TV is HDMI3. How is HDMI2 or 3 related/connected to RUclips TV? On my TV if I enable ARC/optical then no sound from TV speakers?? Is this OK?? I tested this setting - no sound from TV speakers... Am I doing something wrong here? Shouldn't connecting to RUclips TV also be a test for the receiver which is why I purchased the receiver? But will connect a DVD. BTW - Receiver operates when pressing buttons etc, pressed "Set Up" but cannot get HDMI Control on, just stays on "Off" With all the settings , even when I get the sound operating, still a lot of set up re speakers, config etc..Quite complicated. Thanks again
Ok thx for the video. So can I hook up my Spotify on my phone via bluetooth to this device, then send the audio out to my wireless sony xm4 headphones? Can I do it at the same time?
@@donwitt Yes, if you play spotify on your TV, it can go through ARC and if your bluetooth headhphones are setup. You should hear it from that. But obviously you can't play spotify from your phone's bluetooth in this scenario.
Perfect timing vid! I just got mine yesterday! I bought it strictly for my laptop. I'm using the headphone out but I read your comment stating that I could use the HDMI out. I'll definitely be trying that out. I have a question (hoping you can answer it). In the description it states it has the ability to Bi-Amp the front speakers. What does that mean? The Yamaha will be pushing 2 Polk T50's, 2 Sony Bookshelves, a Sony sub (powered obviously) and still debating on the center channel (I might use the Sony tower since I have a brand new one just sitting there)
Thanks! I'm not using that feature, bi-amping is separating the high and low frequencies to create more clear sound. Here's a really good article explaining it: hub.yamaha.com/how-and-why-to-bi-amp-your-speakers/
Switch goes to the receiver via HDMI, you don't need another HDMI to go to the tv from the switch. There is an HDMI that goes from the receiver to the TV. This HDMI is the only one required to show video on the TV. Let's go through an example scenario. Let's say you have a switch, a playstation and an XBOX. You will need 4 (3 input + 1 output) HDMI cables total. So each device connects to the receiver via HDMI, since you have 3 devices, you need 3 HDMI cables. Now you need 1 HDMI cable that goes from the receiver to the TV making it a total of 4 HDMI cables.
Seems to be only one place where you can actually adjust the frequency so doesn't look like you can do the individually. It does let you specify small or large for front, center and surround, not sure if that accounts for anything. It would be nicer if it would let you adjust each frequency individually
I don't have this anymore but I do believe you can, I set mine up with the YPAO which automatically selects the values for you but I do believe you can modify them but not 100% sure since it's been a while.
I've been able to get my PlayStation to connect to the receiver when I use Input 1 (ARC specific input) on my TV but when I want to use my smart TV for applications like Netflix I cannot get audio through the receiver. I've tried all of the input options. Nothing else is plugged into the receiver besides the ARC HDMI and the single HDMI for the PS. The only thing plugged into the TV is the single ARC HDMI. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
The ARC input port on the TV should be used to connect to the Output Port of the Receiver. Plug in the Playstation to any of the other ports on the TV or the receiver. On the TV, set it up so you are using ARC for your audio.
@@landpet yes that is exactly how it is setup. I have my ARC HDMI going into the output port of the receiver and the playstation is in Input port #1. When I set the receiver to input #1 it plays the playstation audio just fine but when I exit the playstation menu and use the regular TV functions I have no audio (on any of the inputs)
@@lbutler My bad, I misunderstood. 1. Verify your HDMI cable supports ARC or eARC 2. Check your TV options, on my TV I need to specifically go into the settings and enable ARC functionality and set that as my output for it to work.
if you were using this with a pc, would you still plug the hdmi/arc straight into the tv? or would you use a different connection and plug straight into the pc?
@@landpet i have a 3 monitor set up, (2 connected via display port and 1 tv connected via hdmi) will this affect anything or should it still be the same?
It is 70 watts with 2 channel, with 5 channel it will be less. The speaker should be 70watt or above (not by too much) because you want the receiver to power it, if the speaker is below, then at higher volumes the speaker will suffer
It’s amazing when you finally figure out how to make it work. I called Crutchfield and they straighten me out in heartbeat. Oh yeah by the way. They’re selling the Yamaha RX V6A for $549 with a $50 gift card or you can get the scratch and dent for $470 as new
Hello, I got an old pair of Triangle speakers from my dad (was hes old home cinema) but the amp was completely broken and I was looking for a new AVR with bluetooth. My speakers are 80W RMS and 150W peak at 4 Ohms. I see this AVR can output for 6 and 8 Ohms but not 4, do you think it is an issue hence not recommend this AVR for me ? If yes do you have any AVR reference within this price range I could buy for my impedance? Also very great review, keep up the good work
Ok so I did some researches on how impedance works, as I have 4 speakers that are 4 Ohms each, I could plug two pairs in series into the AVR making each pair 8 Ohms. I don't really plan on using these speakers as a home theater but more as a hi-fi system or just loudspeakers I could use for partying with friends, so I don't care about loosing the surround and just having a basic stereo system.
Thanks! I haven't tried that but looks like something that could work. I always try to match the impedance but I guess you are matching it by wiring it in series. I'm curious how it will work, it's probably not going to be as loud.
I can't seen to get my center speaker to work through this reciver. It will work if I connect it to the left or right front, and it works when I do the test tones other than that it won't work when connected to center terminals. Please help.. it's a brand new reciver and brand new center speaker..
Did you select the surround sound mode or are you in 2.1? In 2.1, the center won't work just the left right and subwoofer. Change the mode to be in a mode that supports 5.1 like cinema or something like that.
I just bought one online as an upgrade from my old Yamaha receiver. I read you should use a tripod or mic stand with the mic. How easy was it using the YPAO and did you get good results?
I plan on buying one can this be connected through a desktop with the hdmi out from the pc into the receiver and hdmi out from the receiver into my monitor.
The simple answer is HDMI can be better since it can pass higher resolution audio but it also depends on the source of the signal. In short, HDMI is at minimum equivalent to optical or better.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea. I did show a glimpse of YPAO setup. When I place it on the couch, that’s the closest place but if you have a tripod that would be more ideal.
great demo. You answered all my questions!
Glad it was helpful!
Tq for your information, after watching your video.finish done pairing my receiver to another HP👍👍👍👍
Nice
Question, can I use a splitter on the subwoofer pre out to add a total of 2 subwoofers?
Really great job with the in depth review. Thank you.

Bra I was just lost on how to pair my phone thank you so much 👍🏿👍🏿
no worries
Great video! Any way to get on screen display menu while connected to TV over HDMI? It works on passthrough connections
It should just show up, try selecting "TV" as the source and try it than.
@@landpet thanks for taking the time to explain, I’ll def try

Great review and technical explanation!

Does anyone have experience of Yamaha's virtual headphone surround 'Silent Cinema'. I use headphones just as much as speakers for movies.
Here's a link to Yamaha's site that talks about it: manual.yamaha.com/av/18/rxv385/en-US/320797195.html
Check to make sure it's enabled on everything, like the TV as well other devices if does give you that option.
What about labelling the HDMI inputs to their various sources?? And to setup the speakers configurations. I thought this was a full setup????
If I hook a DVD player HDMI out to the receiver will it show on the TV that's connected to the receivers HDMI ARC?
Yes, if that's the source is selected
if you connect the DVD player to HDMI2 on the receiver (you select HDMI 2 on the receiver), then set the TV to the HDMI port that the receiver is on. The DVD player will show
, is AUX and hdmi ARC mode can use at the same time? We use HDMI ARC to our Amplifier, and AUX to our mixer
Bought one recently. So far notice two problems:
1. AVR have to turn on and off, then only passthrough will work.
2. If power loss, DSP setting will lost and back to default .
Thanx for the review. I just got bose acoustimass 5 series v, am not sure if I can use this reciever to power the speakers or it would be to much
Should be fine, you can always control the volume
Good video.I have the older version of this model Yamaha rx-v379 its nice to see the upgrades on this model no spring clips for the center and surround and you can change speaker impedance.
Thanks! Yup, this thing is really nice for the price.
Hey landpet,
Wondering if you can help me, at 16:25 you can see the amp has turned the speakers off because no audio is coming through. My amp (same model) does the same until I start playing something meaning it chops the first 1-1.5 seconds off.
Do you know if there's a way to disable this?
I assumed there was no fix for it.
@@landpet Bugger. Thanks mate.
How did you get the settings menu for the receiver showing up on the TV?
Great price for this receiver! It can do all the essentials for less than $300!
Absolutely!
Hi can i connect bose acousmastics 5 series v speaker to the section of home theatre behind yahama Rx 385 and can i add more speakers
I have my guitar interface which has left and right RCA connection. do you think it be possible to put them into the Av2 or Av3 inputs and I would still receive sound? . I was hoping to buy this today until I noticed there is no dedicated left and right RCA only places to connect. only under the AV2 or 3. many thanks
No problem. I'm not 100% sure but I think that should work.
I have an old TEAC that needs replacing. This was very informative. I'm sold, as it has all the features I need. Thanks. Oh, can I set this up for 3.0 channel?
I don't have this anymore but you should be able to.
Do you have any idea how to connect a Niles SSVC6 speaker selector to this unit? Thanks for the demonstration

Glad it was helpful!
Very informative video on various features of this receiver!!
Glad it was helpful!
Is this model good for just playing vinyl and cds? Are there enough inputs for both if so?
I would check if the sources can support it, I don't have vinyl so I don't know the source it uses. I would imagine it's fine if it supports it. CDs should be fine.
I just got an rxv383. I have the Klipsh reference theatre 5.1. The receiver has 2 speaker connections like yours for left and right. The center and right surround and left surround has the spring loaded buttons. Those 3 speakers do not work. I bought receiver off Ebay so it has no instructions. How do I get those to work? Subwoofer doesn't work either but I may not have the right cable for it
Assuming you have everything connected correctly, I would check to see if the configuration is in 5.1. If not, best to ask Yamaha
@@landpet trying to figure out how. I didn't get a manual with it
I been thinking about getting this receiver and paint it with my Klipsch Reference Cinema Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 System will this effect the dolby atmos ??
I don't think this thing offers dolby atmost
Does this receiver come with 5 band equalizer?
With ARC, does your tv remote control the receiver?
ARC is just for sending Audio from your TV's source (or sources connected directly to the TV) to the receiver. It has nothing to do with the TV's remote control controlling the receiver. That's a different option called HDMI CEC.
Will the AV1, 2 and 3 output to tv through the HDMI ARC? Or must I use RCA to HDMI converter?
Yes, any video inputs that are connected will output to the TV via the HDMI out port on the receiver. You don’t need extra cables.
can you individually control 2 outputs for the speaker?? .... like zones, i'm thinking to use this one unit for cafe..
Not with this one. You need the higher model.
Additionally, looks like it's not possible to use the Yamaha AV Control APP with this Amp (it needs an IP)
oh, didn't know
Does the remote control for this receiver control other devices such as a TV or DVD player?
I don't have this anymore, I honestly can't remember.
Nice review.
I saw that it pairs to a Bluetooth headphone. What about 2 BT headphones at the same time, so 2 people can listen with different headphones together? Is it capable, or it can transit to only one BT headset at a time?
I can’t remember but I think it’s most likely 1 connection
excellent video!!! i have one questiont tho, hoping you can answer it.
i want to buy this, ill have to use the HDMI arc to the tv, but I want to use a soundbar that requires a HDMI input, I do see here that the 4 regular HDMI ports support ARC, can any of these 4 ports be used to send the sound signal from the receiver to the soundbar?? i think so just wanted to confirm
Can I use HDMI ARC for audio and it not turn the reciver on and off every time I power my tv on/off I don't wanna use my receiver all the time but I want HD sound for when I do
Good question, you may have to disable HDMI CEC which controls the receiver from the TV. That may not turn it on or off in that case.
Hi, sorry, can you kindly explain to me how to connect this receiver in 4.1 setup? Please, I don't know how to do it.
Because in the manual it's say that you can connect it in 5.1, 3.1 and 2.1. so I only have 4 speakers and a subwoofer.
In that case, itself just setup a 3.1, just wire 3 speakers and a subwoofer.

Idk, I don’t have this anymore. I’m on the A2A now and that’s been in the box, I’m changing my speaker setup.
So with the Bluetooth instructions, I can connect to the TV without HDMI, correct?
The receiver needs to be connected to the TV via HDMI but the Bluetooth device like your phone doesn’t require it
What Subwoofer are you using? I thought I saw a video of some Yamaha Music app / See anything like this? Thans

Bluetooth and speaker volume are independent. So just lower the volume with the remote and adjust the volume from your headphones
Do you know which smart TV could connect to this wirelessly? Airplay works great from computer but can't get my Samsung TV to connect.
I usually just connect it with the HDMI cable. I believe they sell devices that allow for wireless connection but haven't looked into that.
Cheers.
Thanks! I didn't notice any lag.
Good question, it's automatic, you can use any of the HDMI ports as pass through.
@@landpet Do you need to turn on and off the AVR to active passthrough? Mine does.
Sir, i have 6 speakers, 4 tower speakers, 1 center speaker & 1 subwoofer..are there any ways i can install my subwoofer speaker using this yamaha av?
This reference is designed for a 5.1. you can connect a subwoofer to it and up to 5 speakers.
I'm still using this receiver but the ARC HDMI doesnt have sound coming out anymore. Any idea why? Maybe it's burned.
verify you're using the correct port for your TV and that the hdmi cable is compatible with ARC
Im a newbie at sound systems. Can this work with my 6 ohms SP-SF52 pioneer tower speakers? I noticed this is an 8 ohms receiver. Thanks.
I would not connect 6 ohm speakers to an 8 ohm receiver. However, this is an 8 ohm receiver by default but can be set to 6 ohm. So you should be golden.

@@landpet Thanks I do not quite understand this ohms concept so I was not sure if it would be a good idea.
@@fernandos.8158 No worries.
Speaker impedance is measured in Ohms. It is the limitation of electrical current (measured in amps) flow supplied from the amplifier. You always want it to match the receiver otherwise you can damage stuff.
If you're interested about it, google Ohm's Law. For speaker specifics, this seems like some good info: www.prestonelectronics.com/audio/Impedance.htm#:~:text=Short%20answer%3A%20The%20ohm%20is,8%20ohms%20or%2016%20ohms.

Sure, i buy a new cable for test. Also not use. Arc to arc working for blu-ray player, got sound got picture. But i turn to tv channel, it doesnt work. Av receiver show info the decorder off..
Hi there, many thanks for your explanation on using this receiver, some I understood and some I didn't :-), let me start off by telling you I am an old guy that doesn't really understand electronics/sound set-up etc..
I followed the instructions to connect this unit to my LG smart TV, so arc to arc for the HDMI cable and connected the speaker wires (which have been on an old Kenwood receiver - no Arc )
Turned it on and firstly tried the FM station, no sound, then the TV - no sound.
No problem.
A few things to check:
BTW - Receiver operates when pressing buttons etc, pressed "Set Up" but cannot get HDMI Control on, just stays on "Off"
With all the settings , even when I get the sound operating, still a lot of set up re speakers, config etc..Quite complicated.
Thanks again

Ok thx for the video. So can I hook up my Spotify on my phone via bluetooth to this device, then send the audio out to my wireless sony xm4 headphones? Can I do it at the same time?
No problem. It looks like it only supports one Bluetooth device at a time.
@@landpet but this can bluetooth out if I play spotify on my tv and arc the sound back through the receiver?
Do you also need to connect the device to the tv after conecting to the reciver?
You don’t have to but for most people they do, if you want to use it with the TV you need to
do you need another hdmi to hook up your switch to the tv so the picture can display on the tv? or do you only need one to plug into the receiver?
Is it possible if I want to use this receiver as a stereo amp?...I currently have only two speakers.
I don't have this anymore but I think it supports stereo mode.
Does this receiver allow you to adjust the crossover for the front, center, and surround separately? Thx.
Seems to be only one place where you can actually adjust the frequency so doesn't look like you can do the individually. It does let you specify small or large for front, center and surround, not sure if that accounts for anything. It would be nicer if it would let you adjust each frequency individually
@@landpet Thanks. That's what I needed to know. Much appreciated.
Can you adjust gain and/or distance for each channel?
1. Verify your HDMI cable supports ARC or eARC
2. Check your TV options, on my TV I need to specifically go into the settings and enable ARC functionality and set that as my output for it to work.
if you were using this with a pc, would you still plug the hdmi/arc straight into the tv? or would you use a different connection and plug straight into the pc?
bluetooth would work im guessing?
Yes, plug in the hdmi/arc to the TV. Connect the PC via HDMI to one of the input ports on this.

So this av supply 70watt to each speaker? So the speaker also must below 70watt?
It is 70 watts with 2 channel, with 5 channel it will be less. The speaker should be 70watt or above (not by too much) because you want the receiver to power it, if the speaker is below, then at higher volumes the speaker will suffer
Doesn’t have treble and base controls. I really want to use it just as a two channel stereo.

Thank you it works.

Cant. Not enough power from the port. You need a powered subwoofer.
I concur, not enough power. You need a powered subwoofer.
Hi mate.. is optical better then hdmi.. sound wise…?
The simple answer is HDMI can be better since it can pass higher resolution audio but it also depends on the source of the signal. In short, HDMI is at minimum equivalent to optical or better.
