You have to find bed rock faces that lead down to deep holes. The deeper the better. And you usually won't find anything untill you hit the very bottom of the hole on the bed rock.

No gold around the coast mate, not worth the effort. Go north to Gympie or west past Warwick if you actually want to find something.
