When I first saw this on TV in the early '70s, I really liked this short promotional film being shown to James Coburn because it looked and sounded exactly like actual movies of this type. The "CC" cartoon character, the animated human blood system and brain, the music and narration - all perfect. Makes it all sound cheerful and modern and wonderful.
No, they just meant the phone company. That was back in the days when the phone company was an evil, quasi-government monopoly affectionately known as "Ma Bell" aka "The Bell System". It was broken up as part of an anti trust action in the 80's.
+Chris Casady Watching this again, I wanted to know, too. The eyes looked so familiar. It was animated De Patie-Freleng, according to their wikipedia article. Pat Harrington also voiced the Inspector in the Pink Panther cartoons by the same studio.
+E. Edsel Edsel Thanks! Sure, De Patie-Freleng, I remember them. It's so well made. And whereas the animation in Jurassic Park, explaining how dino DNA is extracted, in a 60's retro style, this animation is made in 1966 thus is naturally in a 60's style. I loved this film when I was a pre-teen, my father was a psychoanalyst! It was all the rage and such a part of the culture then. Now I'm in the animation biz. TMI
Back in 1967 the Cerebrum Communicator represented the ultimate in bureaucratic, technological horror. These days, people would line up to receive it.
Sad but True !!! ...we seem to be at a point of realization of everything this movie tried to warn us about...i think we have gone beyond "1984".....
.... people "are" lining up ...
This is one of the greatest movies ever. I was lucky enough to see a print of this a few years ago at a festival.
Coburn's last line is cut short. "You're a megalomaniac and the phone company is psychotic!"
NEGATIVE
RIP DAD....Pat Harrington Jr.

Educational movies in my school were made by bell telephone. That is the style used here
Was this the movie where "the telephone company" was a euphemism for some evil national intelligence outfit?

TPC. At the time, ATT was a monopoly, to the point it was illegal to own your own phone.

Injected into the internal carotid artery? So then it'll embolize in my brain, giving me a stroke? No, but thanks for the offer.

Risking a stroke , just to save the "effort" of keying in a few numbers????
Who did this classic animation in 1967? Jay Ward? Bob Kurtz? Does anyone know?
