(Hearthstone) Wailing Caverns Mini-Set Complete Card Review

- Kibler discusses the new cards releasing today in the Wailing Caverns mini-set and talks about how he expects them to be used, and why they may or may not show up in top metagame decks.
I commend Kibler's ability to say "Two two two taunts" several times in quick succession without stumbling over the words.
Tutututaunts
Should have summoned two two/two tortollans with taunt.
Demon Hunter 1:23
Druid 7:45
Hunter 15:17
Mage 22:48
Paladin 29:42
Priest 40:12
Rogue 51:07
Shaman 1:00:27
Warlock 1:07:57
Warrior 1:14:52
Neutral 1:22:04
But... you couldn’t have watched the whole video yet
I was looking for you, thank you!
Doing gods work
0:00 to 1:35:21 Summary: "I think it's a good card, but it doesn't necessarily fit into any meta decks."
Oh man, Kibler just describing almost perfectly my experience running wailing caverns. We had 4 hunters and 1 shaman who was DPS spec’d but had to act as healer for our 4 tanking pets. Honestly worked out reasonably well, only wiped a couple times
Oh jeez that sounds like...pain? Sounded like you guys had it covered but from my limited experience as a Vengeance Demon Hunter in WoW that must've been tough lol
I always appreciate how kibler reviews cards that are revealed. He rarely, if ever, takes the “this card is trash, next card” approach and always tries to theorycraft and give some positives about the card. It’s a very refreshing way to review cards and makes watching the reviews much more fun.
Anytime I see a Hunter Bow that doesn’t have Immune on it...I can’t help imagining Rexxar charging in and stabbing people with his bow instead of firing it...
Honestly? Fair enough!
Even if the bow has "immune while attacking" Effect, it's still weird because your hero portrait still smack itself will attacking.
😄
I think that Savory Deviate Delight could have been a great way to introduce Neutral spells. Food from WoW would make sense as a spell format for all classes, and to your point, would allow for flexible application within many different reactive, control archetypes. Love the flavor though (pun sort of intended)!
It still feels weird that 'deathrattle n'zoth deck' isn't a redundant phrase
does this drop on the 6th or today?
people are saying the 3rd and others are saying the 6th
edit: oh and google says it drops on the 4th
why are you asking me I haven't played this game since n'zoth was a deathrattle synergy card
@@big_azzy well how was i suppose to know, i asked the first person in the comments, because everyone is saying different things, this guy says the cards are coming out today, google says they are coming out the 4th, and some others are saying it comes out the 6th, i mean really if i cant trust the first person i ask after looking up everything else who can i trust?!
@@patriousthefallenknight3185 It comes out on the 3rd: twitter.com/playhearthstone/status/1397946063433129988?s=21
It still feels weird that nobody has tried to combine Deathrattle with Big Demon. They feel very compatible together. No Deathrattle Demon in Deathrattle, while all of good Demons cost more than 5.
Serpentbloom is an auto-include in any deck just so I can look at the art while waiting for my opponents turn

Thanks for the well-thought-out review Kibler! Looking forward to some Elemental Shaman videos from you :)
I was just about to go and do some garden work so dear lord could this have not come at a better time. Gonna be a great hour and a half!
He's spot on about Deviate Dreadfang. It indeed has no legs.
Thanks for this Brian! I'm really excited to try Control Warrior with Kresh and Mutanus :)
For once, someone is more positive about an expansion/set than Regis lol thank you for recognizing the strength of some of these cards and not just agreeing "meh set" like it seems 90% of people are.
@Prabhjit Dhillon It's a miniset, it's not meant to establish new archetypes it's meant to bolster what already exists
Love how Kibler's mic looks like a Mars rover about to head into the caverns with the rest of the group.
Thank you for the content! :]
My pleasure!
felrattler is basically Swipe for 3 mana. looks like it could really push some DH decks
It's swipe if it didnt go face.
A lot of the time it's just a 4/2.
@@BigFatCock0 in thos situations I wouldnt consider it bad, given it means you have the board control. And if you dont, it's a shadow bolt.
Mini-set is limited but till when? Im broke, I need to know! Usually it's on the shop but not this time, why?
If you give Trampling Rhino poisonous and attack an enemy minion, does it only assign 1 dmg to it and trample the rest, like in MTG, or does it assign damage equal to the target's HP?
AL GORE RHYTHM 🥁
I hope you'll show some Druid and Sham decks soon featuring these cards.
Story time with Kibler turned into a rage-induced hunter sob story. I need more of these !
Can't wait to see Turtle Lord Kresh in your frenzy/menagerie warrior decks :)
Deviate Dreadfang is the best counter to Ogremancer - you cast spells but get to immediately trade into their 2/2's definitely a 5 star card
/s
Ngl, had me in the first half
Felrattler is a smaller Swipe that can't go face but also has a lot of synergy
Archdruid: awakens
Kibler: back to sleep you go.
"I don't know if something like this has legs." Well, looking at the card art, it doesn't have legs, so you're right
Got my 2,000 coins lined up. Can't wait for some fresh cards and the Paladin nerfs.
Sin'dorei Scentfinder is gold when you evolve into it with Shaman.
Am I the only person thinking Savory Deviate Delight and Mutanus are the pieces needed for a rogue mill/fatigue deck?
I think Mill rogue rarely play hand / minion disrupting effects like dirty rat and deathlord, so maybe deviate delight won't add much to the deck
I love the new Murloc. Its so cool that i can beat with controll decks OTK Deamonhunter and Warlock. It can miss but with that card i can atleast try to win
Nice I'll have to listen to this at work.
Random thought, but Mutanus might become quite nasty in Shudderwock decks in wild.
23:05 You can play this guy for like two, or for three even
Against All Odds is easily countered by Even the Odds, which adds +1 to your even-Attack minions.
Ok, I made it up, but wouldn't it be cool?
Uh... how would turning all your even-attack minions into odd-attack minions counter against all odds?
"Even the odds" should be +1 or +3 attack to all your minions with odd-attack.
I the rush warrior and celestial alignment druid will be a big part of the meta 🤔 so frost mage will work .. some of the time!
In my head: its laughing sister
Kibler: 1:23:38
😮
It's an interesting observation that since 2015 with the release of LoE and Brann Bronzebeard, there has not been a single Hearthstone expansion where there hasn't been some effect which lets you double battlecries in its standard lifetime. LoE rotated with Un'goro, so Un'goro, KFT and KnC had none for a rotation, but then you get Spirit of the Shark in the Witchwood, which lasted until Descent of Dragons/Ashes of Outland, by which time Saviours of Uldum added the new Shaman quest, which lasted up until it rotated with the current set.
So, I predict that at some point in the next 5 expansions, there will be some battlecry-doubling effect printed. If that effect costs less than 4 mana (which every effect so far has, other than Spirit of the Shark which was pretty survivable with its stealth), then we might be looking at a 7 mana 12/12 discard two cards from your opponent's hand for the mondo Mutanus combo. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
Spirit of the Shark is Rastakhan btw
@@frankfs8415 Oh you right. I knew that but my brain said Witchwood because Spirit of the Shark = Spooky. Still, same rotation, so same point stands
Can't wait to play around posion felrattler generate by random hunter beast card
When you come here and see like 30 ad-breaks on the timeline.
I actually cut out a ton of them from the automated process because RUclips always tries to add sooooo many. It is a 90 minute video, though :P
@@bmkibler Thank you for taking the time to do that
I wonder if Selfless Sidekick dodges Doomhammer 2 mana Overload
Kresh should totally be beast, there is no question to it.
The thing that is frustrating about cards like the two new "ruin something in your opponent's hand" options is that they are random, it's not like Thoughtsieze in MTG where you can very deliberately counter whatever it is you might want to stop your opponent from doing. You just hope you queue into a matchup where that kind of hate is relevant, fire it off and then see whether you win the game on the spot or just wasted your resources doing nothing. Mutanus giving you a reasonable body does help on the side of the person playing the card but it doesn't solve the issue from the other side of the table, where randomly losing the single copy of a legendary you built some combo around feels hooooorrible. They obviously have the means to implement less chaotic versions of these cards since Illucia exists, so I don't get why this is even still a thing.
You mean to say the thing that is frustrating to YOU. Important distinction. Additionally, consider that you shouldn’t play Hearthstone expecting an MTG experience, or vice versa. If you want Hearthstone to be more like MTG, go play MTG. Appreciate the differences the games have to offer instead of wishing they were more of the same.
@@maroeatsbabies Yes, that is what everyone means when they say "the thing that is frustrating." Kinda thought it went without saying.
And that's a very skewed interpretation of what I was saying. I actually greatly prefer hearthstone to MTG for a variety of reasons, but preferring a thing doesn't mean it should be immune to criticism. RNG is fine but when the RNG becomes overwhelming then it sucks a lot of the "strategy" out of the "strategy game."
They are perfectly capable of making non random versions of these cards and they have already shown a willingness to do so. This kind of effect particularly suffers from being random as well, so it makes sense to point to examples in the vast history of CCGs that we might be able to learn from in order to... make the game less shitty, which would be good for everyone who likes the game, right?
I don't know why Blizzard keeps trying to make frost mage a thing.
really sad they've gone away from 'discover a copy of a spell from your deck', shadow visions was so fun most of the time.
In pretty sure venomstrike bow is insane. It destroys control matchups where your face matters less than board. Its worse in aggro but I've seen warlock make worse trades in metas past
Here for Freeze Mage but stayed for whole list
Venomstrike bow is hilarious
Ahh, the two stages of Mage:
1) Decks that are reasonably-to-very powerful that people find obnoxious because of attacking from a different angle (Classic Freeze Mage) or rely on a couple of incredibly powerful cards (Luna/RSW), that proceed to get nerfed to the ground because of it.
2) Random barely supported archetypes that need way more help than the devs will ever give to make good, thus banishing Mage to the wilderness until the next time 1) comes around.
That describes shaman much more than mage 😂
@@_skud That's 'cuz Shaman and Mage often share the same issues. I won't deny Shaman has generally gotten it worse over the years...but also the highs of Shaman also tend to be higher than Mages. But they both tend to share similar issues in their highs and lows. Paladin, too, before Scolomance came out and sodlified Librams.
Man Hunter has been shafted this mini set
13:03 Well no, you can see it doesn't have legs
You know the game has gone down a good design route when 90% or more of the counters to every card mentioned involves a single class including that class itself. In pre-rng card generation before I quit playing I played Hand-Rogue (get low with weapon removal, play molten giant, gang up moltens, antique heal bot to recover), midrange/control priest, and control paladin. Basically a worse handlock, priest was mediocre most of the time, and control paladin had its moments but was mostly mediocre. I still hit legend every reset before playing really random rogue stuff though. Watching the current miracle rogue, rng priest, and basically anything paladin just annoys me now though :(. Also sad that I'd rather see freeze mage than (rando) spell mage too :|.
Well met uthe...i mean kibler
the overload on perpetual flame tho
Mutantus will suck to get from auspicious spirits :(
another Silas
13:03 of course not, it’s a snake!
Yessssss
I think people are underestimating mage. I'm pretty sure we are going to see the return of a very oppresive tempo mage by the end of this expansion.
The last time tempo mage was oppressive in standard was when Mana Wyrm was a 1 mana 1/3. I don't see anything that mage currently has that is even slightly comparable to Mana Wyrm. I'm not saying that the new cards are garbage or that tempo mage is impossible, but an "oppressive" tempo mage? Ehhh that's a stretch. You're gonna have to do a lot of convincing there. Doesn't seem likely.
felrattler basically swipe
I'm pretty dang disappointed in the card art for WailingVapor, and the homogeneity of shamans low-cost elemental designs
That Shmn card is not THAT good because the body is very weak for a 3 drop in a deck that NEEDS to keep board and or fight for board. So your playing a very weak 3 drop to draw a spell and a elelemntal. So give up tempo to draw is typically a shaman DOWNSIDE.Perpetual might work versus Druid but imo it is to keep up with paladin.
The problem is not Shaman SPELLS,Shaman needs better minions.
So Wailing vapor is a card that beyond trun 2 is WEAK.Tunell Trog is no longer a card worth mentioning because the meta has a MUCH higher power curve than the game had 20-30 seasons ago.
I can easily point to Priest, you have a 1/4 and then can play the 2/2 that buffs it by 2/2 and yet NOBODY plays it.I can also point to Paladinyo urather have a 1/3 that is buffed by 2/2 Hand of Dal AND draws a card, see the difference? So at very best this 1/3 becomes a 2/3 on turn 2 is that powerful,IMPACTFUL...no.
Shaman NEVER gets cards that impact a game like Cascading corrupted to play 2x or TIckatus disruption or Hand of Dal,Shaman gets cards that are not keeping up with the power curve of the game.
Four people with Rush and one with Stealth - hah yeah
Of course your first character was a Night Elf hunter.
The meme is real.
30:45 Story time.
its not as good as last mini exp
cant wait to try ruin decks with new murloc and staff
Lol, Taintheart.
all these micro nerfs, blizzard is too afraid to address problem cards. just fix/remove OMY. If literally every deck runs OMY and everyone hates playing against it, maybe, just maybe they should embrace the community's opinion this time. Remember when Sylvanas and Rag were hall of famed because they were too powerful and unfun to play against? Yeah, me neither.
When you remove oh my yogg you also essentially remove the weapon. That is too much.
@@Ervalo so you're saying that the weapon isnt worth anything without OMY? In other words, OMY is so overturned that running a card that force plays it only 33% of the time is considered good. OMY is whack and it really needs to go. Paladin would still be tier 1 after it's removed, just probably not with a 60%+ winrate
Did Paladin really need more obnoxious secrets? This one feels like a mistake from Blizzard.
Again rogues get the short end of the stick 🙄
Skorpid needs to be removed. Way to powerful, esp for a neutral. Too many generated spells
I can't stand when they add neutral cards that affect really only 1-2 classes. So what i figure is they don't want to put it in those classes because they don't want to print anymore cards, their whole ordeal is monetization and not shaking up the meta.Mini sets as is are a scummy move to further monetize the game, they could have put these in the last set or waited for the next set.
Mutanus is the best card ever printed that helps ALL classes.Being 7 mana means it could also be bounced. No idea why it is a Murloc, there isn't going to be ANY legit murloc decks.Turn 7+ does give it more actual legit targets but if it misses it can be as bad as illucia.
It's a murloc because Mutanus is the final boss of the dungeon and was of course going to be added. The effect could have been on another card, but a murloc eating something is fitting enough.
Two pronged. Snek. I c wut u did ther.
Overall, this is a VERY weak set/mini set,it definitel yappears to serve only one purpose,to further monetize the game.
What no horrible classical music blasted way too loud?
